Product Description
Horizon (Terry Lee and Rudy King, Jr) makes their recording debut with "Island Days" - an eclectic blend of music done from the heart. It weaves a story of growing up in Hawaii, with many "outside" musical influences blending with local traditions to create an exciting contemporary sound. The six originals, five covers and one traditional Hawaiian number may seem, at first glance, to be disparate choices thrown together. However, anyone growing up in Hawaii in the 70's and 80's will be able to easily see the thread that weaves these songs into a musical lei that represents life's experiences.

5 out of 5 stars good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27

We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.

5 out of 5 stars memories.......2007-02-22

This cd is excellent it has a lot of very good music and true to the original sound, Am getting a lot of enjoyment, highly recomended

5 out of 5 stars TV Theme Songs.......2007-01-13

This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.

3 out of 5 stars TV themes.......2006-07-05

Not all what I expected, not all of the tunes are the original recordings you remember as the TV themes.

5 out of 5 stars Deja Vu.......2006-02-17

Listening to these familiar themes as performed by the original artists certainly brings back wonderful memories! I was particularly pleased, not only with the quality of the pieces, but with the actual performances themselves, just as we remembered them!

5 out of 5 stars Quintessential Bom Jovi Album.......2007-04-13

I had been a fan of Bon Jovi in my early adolescence before they had even released this album. I had never been a "one-album-person" as I always mixed my own tapes for my perfect custom taste! Yet this album came along and it had what it takes for the whole album to keep running.

A great buy, in my opinion. And if anything were to happen to my copy, I would not hesitate to purchase another one. And (what the heck!) from Amazon.com too!

5 out of 5 stars MY SECOND PERSONAL FAV!!!.......2007-02-17

Words cannot describe how awesome BON JOVI is!!! I am their #1 fan and no other group in this world produces such quality / entertaining / heartfelt music. I RECOMMEND YOU BUY THESE DAYS and ALL OF THEIR CDs!!!

5 out of 5 stars best ever.......2007-01-13

This is the third time I have bought this. First time was a cassette, then a cd. When my cd got bad I purchased another. Being a Bon Jovi Fan for the last twenty some years, I will tell you that this is my absolute favorite. I listen to it all the time and never get tired of it. Different than their early stuff, you might have to give it a couple a listens before deciding. Love it, love it, love it!

5 out of 5 stars Bon Jovi's Best Album, Even Better.......2006-09-06

THESE DAYS, which is already Bon Jovi's best album, is even better remastered. The band sounds here like East Jersey's answer to all the great Southern rock bands of the 70s, which is not surprising when you consider Jon Bon Jovi's belief, shared with those bands, that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia for drug-smuggling was unjustly convicted, which, along with his advocacy of increased funding for law enforcement, makes this album an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

5 out of 5 stars deeper side of bon jovi.......2006-08-01

This album is a deeper side of Bon Jovi and it's also one of the best on my opinion.
Songs like Hey God, My Guitars Lies Bleeding In My Arms, It's Hard Letting You Go, Something To Believe In, and Diamond Ring has very deep lyrics. And This Aint A Lovesong is a very sad lovesong as it says on the title.
The only songs that really has a typical Bon Jovi sound is Something For The Pain, This Aint a Lovesong is a typical Bon Jovi ballad, and Heart's Breaking Even and Lie To Me as well.
But I like this album even though if it has a deeper sound.

Product Description

In 1969, looking to expand the labels musical horizons, A&M co-founder Jerry Moss met with Chris Blackwell, whose Island Records roster included a plethora of cutting-edge acts including Traffic, Fairport Convention, Cat Stevens and Jimmy Cliff, amongst others. Through a licensing agreement with Island, A&M obtained Cliff. In 1970, Jimmy Cliff delivered reggae to America. It was the first time that a major label would test the airwaves and retail with an unproven foreign musical genre. Despite a top 25 single (the title track), the albums reception stateside was fairly cool, and Wonderful World, Beautiful People would be Cliffs only A&M release. These recordings were made between 1967 and 1971 for Island Records in the UK, the label to which Jimmy Cliff was signed. Our motivation is to illuminate how Jimmy Cliff and by extension, reggae was presented in the U.S. prior to the breakthrough of The Harder They Come by the one album A&M Records released and the three they chose not to. Ironically, if Jimmy Cliff had never written and recorded Many Rivers to Cross, which was on the Wonderful World, Beautiful People album, Cliff would never have come to star in The Harder They Come, which heralded reggaes breakthrough in America. And without Harder, Bob Marley might never have transformed from a regional star into an international artist, thus precluding Eric Claptons I Shot the Sheriff and the reggae-influenced rock of The Police (a staple of the A&M catalogue). Exquisitely packaged in an embossed book loaded with rare photos and extensive notes, the 46 recordings gathered here show an artist on the verge of conquering the world.

4 out of 5 stars Finally! More To The Story - And The Best Telling So Far.......2006-02-08

For as great as Jimmy Cliff was in the late '60s and early '70s, he wasn't well represented in the US. Beyond 'The Harder They Come' soundtrack and the 'Wonderful World, Beautiful People' album, it was daunting to track down Cliff's releases, most of which were coming from the UK.

While this box set doesn't completely fill the void, it does the best job of any out there.

It's a wonky collection, but if you read through the set producer's notes (there are 3 of them!), it starts to make sense. Here's the gist: Between 1969 and 1971 Island Records in the UK (Jimmy's label there) sent four albums' worth of songs to A&M Records in the US (Jimmy's label here). Only one of the four albums was released - 'Wonderful World, Beautiful People.'

This box set presents all that material in one place.

Disc One is 'Wonderful World, Beautiful People' appended with b-side "Waterfall."

Disc Two would probably have been (in old school record days) the 'Wild World' album. It opens with that hit from 1970 and follows it with a brace of Cliff's recordings for Island from 1967 onward - some released as singles (Aim & Ambition, I've Got A Feeling) and some not released at all (Honey Hush).

Disc Three is the 'Another Cycle' album. Issued as an album in the UK in '71, it's never been on CD anywhere. Here's your chance to pick it up (and is worth the price of the box itself - and is a must have for fans of the Muscle Shoals sound).

Disc Four gets a little convoluted, but the album is an early incarnation of the 'Struggling Man' album. Hip-O Select fleshed out the disc by adding the songs that later ended up on 'Struggling Man' proper, so this is a way to get a nice remaster of that album (albeit in a different song order).

But explanation or not, this is a phenomenal set of great music from a great artist at the zenith of his career. Pick up this and the 'Goodbye Yesterday' album, also from Hip-O Select, for more music from this period.

5 out of 5 stars Balsamic Ireland smooths away the cares.......2000-03-20

There are only three composers (Bax, Ireland and Bridge) who manage to reach behind my normal level of intellectual music appreciation and tap into that fog which precedes my conscious memories. In this primordial soup lies the true me, warts and all, which I manage to hide from even myself. When I play Ireland's piano pieces, from time to time a phrase might evince an emotion or a feeling which defies verbal explanation as set out by Immanuel Kant in his Third Critique. This free play is quite powerful as 'In those days' and 'Sarnia'. I feel a secret part of my soul has been touched but when I try to ascertain where or how, it is gone. Ireland's bright smiling harmonies are tinged with nostalgia and the sense of loss beyond recall. This loss is indefinable which makes it all the more poignant, is it youth, innocence, joy? We cannot be sure but we are certain of the chagrin in its wake, yet this music is never sad per se. It is like storm clouds in the sky on a beautiful summer's day. In 'Sarnia' Ireland takes us over to his Channel Island home and we can see he was happy in nature, as he was in his 'London Pieces' in that gentler London he lived in the early days of the 20th century. Certainly few Londoners today will recognise these pastels that Ireland wanted to place with his orchestral London Overture as a set of impressions. The Prelude and Ballade are more formally structured works which show that Ireland could also set out serious works without his usual source of visual or biographical programmatic elements. He is always melodic and heart-easing in his concept and we can be sure his finished product has the polish of Ravel. Ireland had been called the 'English Faure' because of his delicacy of expression and the fastidiousness of his forms. Every note and every phrase is essential to his composition, nothing is de trop. He is to my mind the most 'English' in his understated power of emotion with his love of nature, urban as well as rural.

A unique and magical meld of pop and classical strains make for an unusually compelling CD. The symphonic orchestration of the Moody Blues' music extends their range, and somehow it all works.

Though some of the music on this 1967 release may now seem pretentious and pedestrian, such as the poetry which is, in fact, somewhat trite and sophomoric, the rest of it is quite sublime. Two tracks in particular make this CD well worth having, "Forever Afternoon (Tuesday?)" and "The Night: Nights in White Satin". These two tracks are quintessential Moody Blues.

    Days Of Our Lives Lyrics

Well, I left for work in a hurry.
I rushed out the door without sayin' goodbye.
I didn't tell her I loved her this mornin',
But I'll tell her tonight, I thought to myself.

An' as I hurried off t'wards the highway,
This truck, outta nowhere, caught me by surprise.
He missed me by inches, an' my life passed in front of my eyes.
I guess that's the reason that they say:

Dance every dance an' live each day,
    As though it's your last,
An' tell those that you love how you feel,
    Before it's too late.
Life is right here and now,
We only go around just one time.
So embrace 'em, don't waste 'em,
For these are the days of our lives.

Well as soon as my legs stopped a-shakin',
Took a deep breathe an' turned my car around.
Oh, I'm gonna take that vacation,
That we talked about, startin' right now.

Although I know tomorrow will be here,
Tomorrow may not always be here for me.
'Cause nothin' in life is for certain but death's guaranteed.

And that's the reason that I say:

Dance every dance an' live each day,
    As though it's your last,
An' tell those that you love how you feel,
    Before it's too late.
Life is right here and now,
We only go around just one time.
So embrace 'em, don't waste 'em,
For these are the days of our lives.

Yeah, life is right here and now,
We only go around just one time.
So embrace 'em, don't waste 'em,
For these are the days of our lives.
Oh, embrace 'em, don't waste 'em,
For these are the days of our lives.
    Yeah

I really dig this disc--been lookin for the whole CD. Just found out on this guy's website (James-Otto.com) that it's not out until early next year. Bet it'll be worth the wait. Saw him at the Shania concert here in Chicago, and he was amazing--HUGE voice filled up the whole arena without a full band. Finally, something new and different in country music! He is country meets blues meets southern rock all in one. Don't miss out on this one!

I even like the other song on the disc called The Ball--my son loves it, too!! Can't wait too hear the whole album. I'm already a big fan!!
