Try to forget the fact that Bing Crosby probably never had to record another song in his life after he immortalized "White Christmas." If you can do that, you'll find plenty more to like in this crooning Christmas collection. There's the Romantic Bing, charming the tinsel right off the tree with "The Christmas Song," and that cure for cabin fever, "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" There's the Reverent Bing, solemnly singing "Adeste Fideles." And of course, there's Bing the Showman, belting out "Good King Wenceslas" with a bit of that ole vaudeville shine. But no matter what you're told, "White Christmas" will be the number one reason for sticking this one in your stocking. And who can blame you? It's as timeless now as it was way back when. --Steve Gdula

IS THERE ANY DOUBT?.......2007-07-21
THIS HAS TO BE THE BEST XMAS ALBUM OF ALL TIME. I'M PRETTY SURE IT'S THE TOP SELLING ONE. AND IT SELLS MORE EVERY YEAR!!!
A Classic........2007-07-06
This may be the most classic Christmas CD of all time. If you aren't familiar with it, you must have been under a rock for the last 50 years. If you don't like it, you should probably go crawl under a rock for the next 50 years.
Nostalgic and Timeless..........2007-03-02
I bought this for my mom, who grew up listening to my grandmother's vinyl White Christmas album... This is wonderful Christmas music that is warm, and fun, and timeless.
Same Old, Same Old.......2007-01-18
This is just a reissue of the old MERRY CHRISTMAS album that was available since the mid-50s. The title's been changed, but the playing order is the same and the incorrect versions of two of Bing's Christmas hits are the same. "Silent Night" was a hit in 1935, yet its a much later recording that appears here. "White Christmas" first charted in 1942, yet the version here is the 1947 re-recording. "Faith of Our Fathers" isn't even a Christmas song! There's a better, 44-track collection of Bing's Christmas recordings for Decca that includes the correct versions of the hits as well as the remakes and excludes "Faith of Our Fathers." It's called THE VOICE OF CHRISTMAS and is available here: [...]

Typical Bing class and style. Had it on cassette for years and it is gone. Happy to be able to replace it with this CD. Great listening.

Bing Crosby is the father of the Christmas album. He sired the whole shooting match in 1942 when he recorded Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" for the Decca soundtrack of Holiday Inn, and the season has never been the same since. "White Christmas" isn't just Crosby's signature tune, it's also that of Christmas, selling millions around the world and inspiring countless recording artists to create their own holiday versions every year. This long overdue two-disc package features the original recording of "White Christmas" (often replaced by a later version on reissues) as well as all the seasonal songs Crosby cut over three decades. And with extensive liner notes and guest artists such as the Andrews Sisters, The Complete Decca Christmas Songbook is a slam-dunk gift buy for the whole family. --Martin Keller
Customer Reviews:
Crosby is Still the Voice of Christmas.......2006-12-17
There are three Christmas albums that remain my favorites: Rosemary Clooney's Columbia recordings of songs from White Christmas, the Decca studio recordings from the film with Danny Kaye and Peggy Lee, and The Complete Decca Christmas Songbook- The Voice of Christmas. This last CD includes 44 selections including a rare alternate take of "White Christmas".
However, there are still more Crosby/Decca Christmas recordings that are not included here: the A Christmas Sing with Bing- Around the World, a 1955 radio broadcast that was released on records. Perhaps someday Bear Records will do for Crosby what they have so beautifully done for Rosemary Clooney and Doris Day; put together the ultimate Bing Crosby CD set that this monumental contributor to music of the twentieth century so richly deserves.
Voice of Christmas Bing Crosby.......2006-02-24
Excellant CD. Bing Crosby's voice was fabulous. The songs on the CD are great to listen too. I listen to this CD all the time
WORTH BUYING.......2005-12-16
I actually suggest to you to buy this two disc set and make your own 80 minutes cd with it.I for instance like the WHITE CHRISTMAS rendition with PEGGY LEE more than the 1942 or the 1947 version,it's a matter of taste. The songs recorded with the ANDREW SISTERS have a special flavour and have great nostalgic appeal.I was glad to hear many songs that i didn't know BING recorded like A MARSHMALLOW WORLD and CHRISTMAS IS A-COMIN.I wonder why they did not include FAITH OF OUR FATHERS in the collection.Anyway,if you consider yourself a fan of BING,you will buy this and you won't be disapointed. The booklet is also very interesting to read, telling the stories of those recordings collected through many years.
Father Christmas' Complete Decca Recordings.......2005-04-09
Bing's complete Decca Christmas collection! What more could you ask for? Well if you want to be particular I would have loved to see all of the songs that have appeared on the legendary Merry Christmas/White Christmas album(s) (there have been several varations over the years) but I guess songs like Danny Boy and Faith of Our Fathers don't technically qualify as Christmas songs. That said it's as close to perfect as you can get.
It's worth noting that if your looking for Bing's later Christmas recordings you'll have to look to the Capital collection "Bing Crosby's Christmas Classics." The latest version has been updated and now includes the famous Bowie duet.

Favorite Bing Crosby carols.......2007-01-09
I searched all over for a recording of Bing and David Bowie's Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth. Not only does this recording have it, it's also packed with lots of other wonderful traditional carols.
Bing's Christmas from the 60s and 70s like we remember him.......2006-11-11
A very nice collection, with almost all the songs in stereo, less the two TV soundtrack selections and Rudolph. To me, the most amazing track is the heartwarming (some call it syrupy) track "The Littlest Angel" - in this song Bing is in fine voice and the recording is crystal clear without a lot of audio processing like you get nowadays. Do You Hear What I Hear? is one of the greatest songs of the 20th century, and Bing had the first and by far the best version of this song, here in all it's glory. Some of the two song carols are poorly arranged and feature too much choir and not enough Bing, but his solo tracks are quite good, in stereo and sound wonderful for a guy in his sixties and seventies. I'm still amazed that no other performer, David Bowie included, has ever recorded the duet "Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy" other than Bing & Bowie. It breaks my heart that Bing passed-away shortly after recording this great song, before he and David Bowie could go into a recording studio with an orchestra and make a high-quality stereo recording; but, for a 1977 TV soundtrack, the audio is quite good and captures the moment forever. Bing's baritone - a great part of Christmas. I enjoy this "album" and a release by Polydor/Polygram of Bing's 70's Christmas songs, as my two Crosby Christmas favorites. The only song missing here is a song Bing recorded for United Artists records, "When A Child Is Born". I highly suggest Bing's Christmas Classics if you were a fan of Bing's TV Christmas specials - I think that you'll enjoy it. Merry Christmas everyone.
An Essential Christmas Album From The Voice Of Christmas!.......2006-10-08
Capitol Records has given us an early Christmas present by reissuing and expanding it's 1999 Bing Crosby's Christmas Classics CD compilation. This new version, now titled Bing Crosby Christmas Classics, was released Tuesday September 26th.
Gone is the dark cover photo of a piece of sheet music on a piano with a small b/w photo of Bing circa 1963 (which was first used when Capitol hastily reissued an abridged version of Bing's 1962 Warner Bros. Christmas album I Wish You A Merry Christmas in 1977 following Bing's passing). In it's place on this new CD is the original painting that was used on that 1962 Warner Bros. LP! Many people have asked me over the years if that album has ever been reissued on CD with the original artwork. Apart from a late 1980's Australian Axis label CD release of the album that's now virtually impossible to find, 2006's Capitol compilation marks that well-remembered cover painting's first widespread use in over 40 years!
Inside the booklet are full page photos of Bing, including a 1965 Hollywood Palace publicity photo in color, and a b/w photo of Bing & David Bowie. On the backside of the case is a nice photo in silhouette of Bing in tux and tails standing behind a mike onstage at the Academy Awards in 1955.
The CD contains all of the tracks issued on the 1999 release, with a new opening track...White Christmas from the 1957 Frank Sinatra Christmas TV show. It credits this cut as being a "Nelson Riddle Arrangement", when in reality, this is the arrangement Paul Weston wrote for Bing's A Christmas Sing With Bing annual radio show in 1955. Now Reprise released the full length version of this song, complete with Frank taking the last chorus as a duet with Bing, as part of it's 2004 Frank Sinatra: The Christmas Collection CD compilation, but here Capitol re-edited the track to omit Frank's vocal! It makes for an oddly short track with a chopped ending, clocking at 1:34.
The other new track is a stunningly crisp 24-bit remastered version of Bing's 1950 Decca recording of Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, an obvious choice to follow the '62 album cut of Frosty The Snowman with on the disc.
Do You Hear What I Hear and Christmas Dinner, Country Style are also here rounding out the disc with the full length dialogue version of Little Drummer Boy / Peace On Earth with David Bowie (recorded 9/11/77). Once again, however, as on it's 1999 release Capitol didn't create a separate cue point to the beginning of the music portion of the duet with Bowie. This would've been beneficial, giving the listener the option of cueing past the dialogue portion if they wished.
However, it's nice to see Capitol keeping this album in print and taking the time and effort to improve upon it.

Bing Crosby recorded six Christmas songs during the '40s and '50s with the popular Andrew Sisters and all are compiled here for the first time. Twenty tracks overall, A Merry Christmas with Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters showcases classic and timeless performances between the three sisters and the king crooner on staples such as "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," "Winter Wonderland" (with Guy Lombardo & His Royal Canadians), "Mele Kalikimaka," and others. In between, there's plenty of Bing ("Happy Holiday" from his smash film, Holiday Inn, "The First Snowfall," "Christmas in Killarney") and a bounty of Andrew Sisters' songs that run from the "Merry Christmas Polka" to the peppy vocal burst of "Jing-a-Ling, Jing-a-Ling." --Martin Keller
Customer Reviews:
Nice Recording.......2002-12-30
The fun thing about this CD is that most of the songs are not traditional Christmas songs, which get so over-played during the holidays. So these cuts add a fresh dimention to your holiday mix if you drop this CD into your random CD carosel.
I loved this collection!.......2002-11-23
As a collector of Christmas music - I LOVE the fact that this album is loaded with "non-traditional" songs. It's not the same old stuff that every artist puts on a Christmas album, yet the songs sound distinctly "Christmassy". Bing's voice is like a big velvety cloak that wraps you in Christmas spirit, and the energetic vocals of the Andrews Sister's will have you tapping your toes. This collection is classic and timeless, and evokes images of a simpler time. It will be a much-played selection in my Christmas collection. In fact - I think I'd better go order more as gifts or my sister might try to swipe it from me!
The original King and Queens of Christmas music.......2002-09-06
Although Christmas music has been around for humdreds of years, it's popularity now owas a lot to Bing Crosby and (to a lesser extent) the Andrews sisters, with the outstanding and extremely popular Chrismas songs they recorded in the 1940's.
This is a sample of their Christmas music. They only recorded six Christmas songs together, all included here, the rest of the tracks featuring one or the other.
The duets are Jingle Bells (their most famous Christmas duet), Twelve days of Christmas (a song which has inspired many parodies, some of which are extremely funny, but this is still the best straight version of the song I've come across), Mele Kalikimaka (a Hawaiian song), Santa Claus is coming to town, Here comes Santa Claus and Poppa Santa Claus.
Bing sings seven solo tracks - these are identified in the Amazon[.com] track listing and are generally slower than the other songs, although Christmas in Kallarney is a very upbeat song. The slow songs provide a nice contrast to the songs featuring the Andrews sisters (with or without Bing), which are mostly bright, uptempo songs.
Most of the Andrews sisters tracks without Bing feature Guy Lombardo, including Christmas Island, a million selling single for them. Christmas candles is a really beautiful song which is much slower than usual for the sisters and it's great to hear.
Some reviewers suggest some of the songs are dated, but how many modern songs will still sound modern in sixty years time? Many of the greatest Christmas songs were written in the thirties and forties. The versions here are still as enjoyable as any more modern versions - and I also enjoy those. As to the obscure songs, they merely add to the enjoyment. Not every song can become a standard.
This collection is not a comprehensive collection of their music, and you can find most (maybe all) of these tracks on their other albums, but this is a very convenient and highly entertaing collection with a great mix of songs and styles.
A nice package!.......2001-05-26
...While some of the material is a bit dated and perhaps slightly obscure, the tune "Christmas Island" (The Andrews Sisters w/ Guy Lombardo) sold over one-million copies upon its release in 1946, and it became an instant Top-10 Billboard hit. The trio's version w/ Lombardo was soft and dreamy and can still be found on jukebox panels today, almost 60 years later, and the tune was revised by the four Lennon Sisters in a bouncier, Hawaiian-influenced arrangement circa 1960. As for Bing's rendition of "O Fir Tree Dark," I find it pleasantly reverent with beautiful lyrics reminding us of the true meaning of the holiday. While, unfortunately, the trio's version of "The Parade of Wooden Soldiers" has been inexplicably excluded from every seasonal package thus far from MCA, this cd is a nice blend of holiday melodies, all enhanced by the wonderful talents of fine artists. Check out my book, "Swing It! The Andrews Sisters Story," available in bookstores and right here at Amazon.com for much more detail on the trio's working and personal relationship with Crosby, as well as many other popular artists of the 1940s, including Abbott & Costello, Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller, and Danny Kaye.
Charming off-brand ditties.......2000-12-01
This is a pleasant, attractive CD that might be a little too quaint for its own good; it's dated without being necessarily nostalgic, since most of the contents are unfamiliar songs from off the beaten track, songs that never had a hope of competing with all the Christmas standards. In fact, it's practically a study in how earnestly songwriters would search for a Christmas angle that hadn't been done to death: You get not one but two tropical Pacific songs ("Christmas Island" and "Mele Kalikimaka") and a manufactured ode to "Angie, the Christmas tree angel" who lives at the "tippy tippy top" of the tree.
Of course, if you like the performers, even lesser material is of interest. Bing plus the Andrews Sisters was always a great combination. He gave them needed warmth, and they livened him up with their sparkle and brightness. They are quite effective and cheerful on the bouncy numbers that don't lay claim to any piety, such as "Poppa Santa Claus" and "Here Comes Santa Claus." To fill out the CD, the producers have added a number of tracks that tend toward the syrupy and down-tempo (especially from Bing, who sounds practically glum on "O Fir Tree Dark" and when he is answering that pressing question, "Is Christmas Only a Tree"). Notice how often the solo Bing gets backed up by some blandly sweet choir that reinforces his sleepiness, instead of perking him up the way Patty, Maxene and LaVerne do. Thankfully, no one saw fit to throw his "White Christmas" into this mix, since we can all get our fill of that one elsewhere.
This CD probably won't pay off for the casual listener who just wants some familiar melodies pouring out of the speakers. But it's got a comprehensive package of the two acts' combined Christmas songs, plus some relatively rare numbers, which should be of interest to dedicated fans. Or to aficionadoes of kitsch -- "How'd you like to hang your stocking on a great big coconut tree..."

Yule LOVE it!.......2000-12-16
A great CD! Standards like "Blue Christmas", "Feliz Navidad", "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" and "Little St. Nick" provide the right amount of holiday nostalgia. I hadn't heard Hall & Oates' version of "Jingle Bell Rock" before. Pleasantly surprized. There's a real "out there" vibe with the Bing/Bowie duet. Christine McVie is one of the most under appreciated vocalists in pop/rock. All in all, a splendid collection.

This single-CD package draws from The Voice of Christmas: The Complete Decca Christmas Songbook and features the original recording of "White Christmas" (often replaced by a later version on reissues) as well as all the seasonal songs Crosby cut over three decades. And with extensive liner notes, it's a slam-dunk gift buy for the whole family. --Martin Keller

Wonderful Christmas Album.......2003-05-07
Bing does a tremendous job in this CD. The songs are great and very well done. The ones with the Andrew Sisters are especially good. Definitely a CD you want for the Christmas season.
A Wonderful Addition to Your Christmas Collection.......2002-12-09
This is a great Cd...I recently purchased this Cd and it is wonderful. All the songs are excellent and the sound is terrific. I remember listening to Bing's songs as a child and this has a lot of great songs. It is a must-have for every Christmas collection. You won't be disappointed with this Cd.
Great!!!.......2001-12-27
This is my favorite Christmas CD. I have about 20 other CD's that I play at Christmas, but this is the best. Other people that have heard it love it too. It has all the best of Bing. I want to buy another one so I can keep one in the house and put on in my car. If you love traditional Christmas music, this is the one for you.
These recordings have never sounded better!.......2000-10-21
Nobody could transmit warmth through music (or acting) the way Bing Crosby could. His lighthearted style of singing is wonderfully matched with secular Christmas music, but shows its drawbacks with the old Christmas hymns and carols which require more empathy with the meaning of the words to be effective. However, this is a treasure trove of Christmas music. It all has an old-fashioned, nostalgic air that says "Christmas" to millions of people. Most of the recordings on this abridged album were made before high fidelity (not to mention stereo) sound recording was viable. These rather primitive recordings really showed their age on previous versions, but sound markedly better here. It's nice to have a restored version of White Christmas, Bing's signature Christmas song. So, if you are a fan of Bing or just want to experience "that Christmas feeling," this is the album to buy. Leave the other, poor-sounding CDs on the shelf.
Bing Really Was Mr. Christmas!.......2000-08-04
How could you not put together a collection of Christmas music without these wonderful holiday hits by Bing Crosby? Like many others of the baby-boom generation, I grew up listening to Bing crooning these songs as well as watching his holiday specials on tv, always a treat for my family. Music such as this must be preserved, and do yourself & your own family a favor by adding this album to your collection to enjoy for many years to come. Very highly recommended!

Customer Reviews:
Where is White Christmas?.......2004-04-25
You know you're in trouble when a Bing Crosby Christmas compilation omits his greatest seller, "White Chtistmas." What were they thinking? Also forgotten is the gem, "Let it Snow." Aside from these significant defects, the CD is just fine. Christmas time means Crosby will be on the airwaves, soundwaves and in your blood again. Bing was an eclectic singer who dabbled extensively in many genres of music: Hawaiian, Irish, cowboy songs and of course, Christmas music, which is showcased here. This is an excellent introduction for those who don't have other Crosby CD's in your collection or who want to hear his "holiday" side. It contains his standard hits which have been recycled time and again on other anthologies. Most Bing-ologists will have all these songs in their collection, some of them many times over. But if you are new to Crosby, this is an acceptable choice and I guarantee that you will become hooked on Bing's magnificent voice. It's quite weak on his earlier work and it does contain some curious omissions, but then again, Bing didn't sing Christmas music much until the early 1940's. Yet there are some stellar songs included as well, like one of personal favorites, "I'll Be Home For Christmas," One of his greatest recordings.
For the novice Crosby-Christmas fan, this set is perfect for several reasons: not only does it give you a fine overview of Bing's career, the sound quality is exceptional. The packaging of the set is excellent and it even includes some nicely written liner notes with a synopsis of Bing's Christmas songs and musical style, as well as an explanation of his tremendous musical impact upon the 20th century.
Other reviewers have complained about the sound quality on this set. I am puzzled at this criticism. I have most of these songs on casette, vinyl and some even on their original 78 and 45 issues. The sound quality here is quite acceptable and good on most tracks. This set will give you many hours of enjoyable listening and help you branch off into other Crosby CD's which includes his lesser-known vocals. Hopefully this collection will convince you that Bing's vocal mastery was unparalled. Then you can sample his earlier, jazz-influenced work during his Columbia years in the early 30's and branch off into his 20's work with the Rhythm Boys. But for the beginning Crosby listener, this is as good a choice as any. I highly recommend this set. Enjoy!

Bing Crosby's Christmas Classics.......2007-07-13
Great! How can you beat Bing? I could listen to this all year round and do!
I think it's marvelous. Some of it really fine........2006-11-28
This CD features Christmas music Bing Crosby recorded after his "glory years" with Decca Records. The bulk of the CD is taken from Bing's 1962 album I Wish You a Merry Christmas. It also features his 1963 single "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and it's b-side "Christmas Dinner Country Style". And also his duet with David Bowie of "Peace on Earth/The Little Drummer Boy", which was recorded for Bing's last television special, a few months before he died. On the I Wish You a Merry Christmas album, Bing tackled some Christmas standards he hadn't previously recorded, along with a few newer songs. He handled it with his usual aplomb; this guy practically invented Christmas music, and he knew exactly how to sell this type of song. "O Holy Night" is particularly good; quite moving, actually. Of course, the highlight of the CD is Bing's classic hit "Do You Hear What I Hear?", which has gone on to become a standard. Bing was the first to record the song, and his version is still the definitive version. And, of course, the Bowie duet is another great one that just becomes more popular every year. At 74 years old, Bing Crosby was still "The Voice of Christmas"!
Magnificent .......2006-01-15
These classic Bing Crosby Christmas songs have been remastered to perfection. His incredible voice and articulate speech along with the clear sounds of the different instruments will amaze you. You will get chills listening to this version of Do You Hear What I Hear - you can fully appreciate the dynamics of this beautiful song from the beginning through when Bing Crosby and the musicians bring the song to a magnificent climatic end. My children love listening to Crosby's rendition of Drummer Boy and a song I heard for the first time ever, Christmas Dinner Counry Style. This album is worth adding to your Christmas collection.
Bing Crosby's Christmas Classica.......2005-10-26
I needed Frosty the Snowman for a tapdance finale for a school Christmas show. It is the version I wanted. It is of good quality and was delivered in a timely manner. Everything is wonderful!!!! Thank you!!!
Great classics and fun for the holidays.......2004-11-17
This cd has it all. From the classic "Winter Wonderland" and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" to the fun frolic of "Christmas Dinner Country Style". Its non stop Holiday pleasure from beginning to end.
