"Rootsy leads and rich imagery set this radio friendly pop artist apart from the usual pop rock drek.

Product Description
Pete Masitti's latest solo release, "Turn Around", is a terrific blend of pop and rock. The singer songwriter's first single from the album, "When I See You Smile" is already tearing up the FMQB radio charts. Often compared to the Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox 20, Pete's album offers great guitar riffs and lyrics with and intelligent edge. Catch this star on the rise!

The churchy organ that opens and closes Jonny Lang's fifth album reveals its direction. After 2003's Long Time Coming plunged the once-up-and-coming blues guitarist into more soulful and commercial waters, Turn Around completes the transition. Lang is lyrically direct in his spiritual awakening, and the uplifting if sometimes pedantic lyrics make it clear that any vestiges of the teenaged guitar slinger that knocked out an impressive version of the lascivious "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" on his debut are far in the past. A few short leads aside, Lang shifts into full Stevie Wonder/Prince mode, but unfortunately without the quality material that made those artists' work transcend genre. With vocals that shift from guttural howls to sweet and screaming falsetto on tunes like "Don't Stop (For Anything)" and a penchant for oversinging, he's not aiming for subtlety. But there are some winning melodies here: songs such as "Anything's Possible" and "One Person at a Time" boast catchy choruses in a funkified, gospel-tinged, adult-alternative vein bound to appeal to audiences that lean towards obvious religious references in their music. This is a well crafted, undeniably heartfelt set from Lang, who makes it abundantly clear he feels his destiny is to make the world a better place through Jesus. It's a valid enough objective that doesn't quite connect with Lang's rather heavy-handed lyrics, affected singing, and derivative tunes. --Hal Horowitz

Album Description

The Grammy-nominated, former prodigy instrumentalist, who topped the Billboard New Artist chart with his first album at age 15, stands now as a mature creative force, made more sensitive yet also toughened by life's adventures. He's learned what it means to rise above hard times and to find meaning where chaos seemed to rule.

These insights, and the emotions they unleash, makes Turn Around the pivotal album of Jonny Lang's career to date - a passage that links the triumphs of his past to the promise of his future.

A soul-stirring organ, played by Grammy-winning producer Shannon Sanders, forecasts the surge of music that follows on Turn Around: the stomping funk of "Bump in the Road," the startling climax that closes "The Other Side of the Fence," the electrifying vocal exchanges with Michael McDonald on "Thankful," and on the opposite extreme, the work-gang chant that drives "Turn Around" and the profound intimacy of "Only a Man" ...

Turn Around is all of this and more, a tumble of musical colors that dazzle and soothe. And in the end, they achieve coherence through the meaning that Lang conveys so urgently.

"With this album I want to focus, more than ever before, on my purpose in life," he explains. "I've been so incredibly blessed. My wife and I just had our fifth anniversary. I get to do what I love for a living. But it wasn't so long ago that I was spiraling downward in a lot of ways, until God touched my life and set me on the right track. I feel a huge debt to give glory back to Him for everything He has done for me. It's the least he can do."

That said, Turn Around is not slotted only to listeners who have - or have not - undergone this kind of transformation. It inspires, excites, and gets people on their feet - but it doesn't preach. "I understand that not everybody believes as I do," Lang says, "which is fine. I just want to sing about what's going on in my life and let people make up their own minds about that."

For all the conviction that Lang brings to Turn Around, the album began almost as an afterthought. Lang was in the studio one day with his producer, Ron Fair, who is also president of A&M/Interscope Records. There wasn't anything pressing on the agenda; they were doing routine work on the final stages of Lang's previous record, Long Time Coming. Then, out of the blue, Fair said something completely unexpected.

"He looks at me and goes, `Dude, you need to make a gospel record,'" Lang says, laughing at the recollection. "Now, I hadn't really mentioned much to Ron about that side of my life, but for some reason he knew where I was at. So I thought about it for just a second and said, `Yes, I do.'"

There is plenty of gospel in Turn Around, especially in the choir that riffs through "Thankful" and "It's Not Over." But rustic country ("On That Great Day," with guests Buddy Miller and Sam Bush), Motown funk ("One Person at a Time"), jazzy folk ("My Love Remains"), and other influences flavor this music too. In this varied setting, "gospel" has more to do with the spirit that animates these tracks than any category it might inhabit.

1 out of 5 stars I just don't believe.......2007-07-30

Jonny Lang is one of my favorite artists ever, but this album is not good. I don't even know where it is right now. I didn't put it in my Ipod and I'm not going to. This album reminds me of the scene in Walk The Line where the producer tells Johnny Cash "Son I just don't believe you when you sing gospel". That's how I feel about this album, I just don't believe. Sure Elvis can put out a gospel album. Heck Elvis could put out any kind of album he wants, not all artists have the gift to make you believe in everything they sing. I totally respect an artist's right to write and record what they want, but I also don't have to listen to it. I love all his other albums and continue to listen to them regularly.

5 out of 5 stars Jonny Lang is great.......2007-07-29

I have followed his career since he started as an early teen. I was amazed at the quality of his voice and his mastery of the guitar; and he was 13-14 at the time. He continues to get better with age.

5 out of 5 stars My appointed time!.......2007-07-19

I bought this CD used because I was unsure if I'd like it. I would gladly pay full price (after hearing it)!! The song "My Love Remains" has been ministering to me - so much so, that I was singing it a day when I wasn't around a radio or CD player. To my surprise, I heard "Anything's Possible" on the radio without knowing that was Jonny too! I'm hearing the whole thing now and I love it! I gotta hear the other CD's too... Again,- I LOVE IT!!

3 out of 5 stars THE ATTACK IS GONE.......2007-07-01

This work lacks that extra "something" that made Jonny's earlier work really jump. His voice is right up front, the singing is great. The songs are good, very good. But the attack is gone. Jonny needs to get that producer back he used to have, David Z. Chances are David is either (a) in rehab; (b) passed on; or (c) parted ways with Jonny for other reasons. Well, Jonny, either get him back or get someone else who can push your work that extra step further. Otherwise I will only be hearing you on the radio.

3 out of 5 stars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-10-28

Wow, I don't know what to begin with,i'll just put it this way, this would have been a better album that the first one if lead singer Vanessa Van Hermert was doing the whole voucals on this album, it's almost as if she dosen't excist in this album, and i have no idea who is that other female doing voucals and it's not really the same without Vanessa, it's like Iron Maiden without Bruce Dickinson although 2 diffrent types of music, and as far as i know that this band will be having a new singer and once this take place it won't be the same 4 strings i once liked due to the amazing voice of this young lady, music is excellent but you can scence that something is missing , i hope these guys realize it, this lovely sound if Vanessa is the key.

5 out of 5 stars A STRIKINGLY VIBRANT FOLLOW-UP!!!.......2006-08-28

After listening to the first album, "Believe", there can be no mistake made about the hit status of such songs as "Take Me Away", "Revelation" or "Diving". Nevertheless, aside from these three songs, there was not much of anything going on on 4 Strings debut. Frankly, I felt sort of disappointed.... Yet having been convinced that not everyone is perfect, and yes, people CAN improve (their sound, their lyrics, etc.) I decided to give "Turn It Around" a chance....and boy let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed!!! Tracks such as "Turn It Around", the lead-off single, "Come Closer", "Crash and Burn" and "Living a Lie" are instant gems.... While the unbelievable trance quality of "Until You Love Me" (reminds me of Fragma) is just begging to be a future hit-single... Also what I feel makes the entire album edgier and vibrant, much more vibrant than "Believe", is the vast assortment of artists and moods that saturate the album. Despite the fact that "Turn It Around" does not comform to the sounds and rhythms of "Believe", it is nevertheless much wealthier and diverse in style.... something that will keep 4 Strings fans more than just mesmerized. . .

2 out of 5 stars Sophmore slump.......2006-07-29

4 String's first album "Believe" has many great moments - well worth the purchase. I have to agree with the other 2 reviews though that this album is rather disappointing. To point out a few worthwhile listens here: "Until You Love Me" recalls the great feel of "Believe", and the single "Turn it Around" is good as well. "Free" is also not bad... You can find "Turn it Around" on collections by Ultra, so I'd recommend buying those before you purchase this album.

3 out of 5 stars I AM VERY DISSAPOINTED .......2006-01-09

First of all, yes this album is not all great. Second yes, the album does not even give you information or the lyrics of the song, and third VANESSA is LEAVING 4 strings! yup you read right, this is very sad and I think that once Vanessa leaves, the 4 strings will be gone for good. TO bad though because they were doing good!

Finally a Vogues Remastered CD long overdue. This is the reprise material where Can I even begin there Version of My Special Angel which blows away the Bobby Helms original with there Lettermen like Mellow harmonies. The same can be said for Turn Around Look At Me. Which were the 2 big releases on the reprise label. Boy did Bill Inglot do a good job of remastering this one. Sounds so crystal Clear without the noises in the original master tapes. Now if the early material would be remastered that would be nice. Those discs are old realeases and before remastering. Great ballads all around with The Vogues having that Lettermen type sound Til, So This Is Love,The Impossible Dream. There all good I hit the Playback button on Turn Around Look At Me and My Special Angel love the Harmonies so beautiful and mellow it will put you to sleep. And those 2 songs make me think of someone special in my life. The difference between this and the early stuff is the later stuff is in stereo where as the early stuff a lot of it was in mono. Buy this one for your sweetheart and show them how much you care about them. Enjoy this collection of great mushy ballads.

Turn Around, Look at Me

'Turn Around, Look At Me' was The Vogues' first album on major label Reprise Records. After the tiny Pittsburgh based Co & Ce Records folded in 1967, The Vogues were signed to Reprise (Sinatra's label) in 1968. It was during the Reprise years that The Vogues had the most success, as they took on a more serious and mature sound. The Vogues used a proven formula of updating vocal standards, successfully covering and in many ways improving classics like 'Turn Around, Look At Me', 'My Special Angel', 'Till', 'Earth Angel' and 'Moments to Remember.'

Recorded in L.A. featuring The Vogues' smooth vocals and superb four part harmonies, they are backed by a studio orchestra arranged & conducted by Ernie Freeman (including some of the hot session players of the day ie- Hal Blaine, Mike Melvoin, Ray Pohlman, etc.) and produced by Dick Glasser. This is probably the best out of The Vogues' five Reprise albums, and was very successful, reaching #29 as indicated above. Two big hits, several well chosen covers, and a few originals make up the bulk of this album. When released as singles, 'Turn Around, Look At Me' reached #3 on the AC charts and #7 Pop in June 1968. 'My Special Angel' shot right up to #1 on the AC charts and reached #7 on the Pop charts in August 1968.

Taragon did a good job remastering the tracks, but I wish Reprise/WEA would've remastered them, as their Import 'Best Of' CD sounds much better as far as quality goes...still, great CD here and I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars The Vogues: The Return Of The Good Old Songs.......2003-02-08

Hats off to producer, Bill "Chess" Inglot's work in bringing back two of the best albums The Vogues have ever done on one CD.
The rich harmony and instrumental background are still there, and without the clicks and pops that came with the original vinyl recordings.

Although, I have to disagree with the other reviewer's reason for The Vogues disappearance from the spotlight - they were swindled out of the right to use their own group name to perform or record under by a manager at 20th Century Records. And, since then, some counterfeit "Vogues" have been performing their songs throught the years and taking credit for the work of the original Vogues. Go to vogues.com and what you'll see won't be the original members of The Vogues.

5 out of 5 stars Love to hear percussion........2005-09-08

This is a great collection of disco songs, covering 1974 to 1978. Almost all of the songs were big hits, with seven of the songs going all the way to #1. The one song that wasn't a hit is "Miss Broadway", which is a delightfully obscure example of what's known as Eurodisco. This is a very well chosen compilation album.

5 out of 5 stars Good collection of early disco music.......2005-03-30

Rhino Records started out as a company that reissued classic music from the 50's and 60's. Later, they branched out into the 1970's. As they progressed into the 70's, they made a decision to start reissuing disco music. This was somewhat of a controversy at the time. I mean, these people were hardcore 60's rockers. These were the kind of people who hated disco music. However, some of the people at Rhino must have realized there was money to be made in reissuing disco music that had basically vanished off of the face of the earth for much of the 80's. They started off by issuing greatest hits compilations by artists like KC & the Sunshine Band and the Village People. With the success of those CD, Rhino decided to issue "The Disco Years Vol 1" and "The Disco Years Vol 2" in 1990. Volume 1 was mostly early disco music and Volume 2 was mostly later disco music. These 2 volumes contain some of the best disco music from that era. The success of these 2 volumes resulted in more volumes being released by Rhino in 1992. Those later volumes contain some very rare and obscure disco songs. This volume contains the most hits. All of the songs included here were not only disco hits, but they were also Top 40 Pop hits, except for one. The only oddball song on this CD is "Miss Broadway" by Belle Epoque. I bought this CD when it came out in 1990, so I have listened to it many times and have gotten used to "Miss Broadway" over the years. But for most people just wanting hits, this song will be the only non-hit that you will likely want to skip over. Otherwise, this CD is highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Best collection of all major disco singles!.......2004-05-01

Rhino has put together a classic collection of pure disco. All the songs were top radio and club hits. Sound quality is great. All songs are the radio edits, but that suits me just fine.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection!.......2004-02-05

This is an exceptional collection that most people would find enjoyable. I bought this album (along with the 6 other volumes) years ago, but I still play it a few times a year. The well-known hit songs during this time period are here: "The Hustle", "Disco Inferno", and "Love Hangover".

This is my suggestion: You must buy the other six volumes. Sure, even if you buy those there are still LOTS of notable songs missing. What Rhino tried to do was gather the well-known songs instead of "rare, hard-to-find". The packaging is superb: nice liner notes, pictures, and song credits.

5 out of 5 stars All the clasics........2003-06-03

Yep, they're all here. Well, almost all of them. No Donna Summer, the queen of disco. But with the vast , even radio ready playlist available, especially on the always excellent Rhino Records, there are no problems. Try to get as many of these anthologies as possible, since one CD can't hold it all. You just don't hear this stuff on the radio much anymore.

I see your point Mr. NY Club DJ (I'm form PA) but I like dated ditties. Good easy on the ears, yet up beat, light and lively music one can hum along to and be happy is getting rarer and rarer, Along with classic Doo Wopp, There just ain't stuff like that any more.

Bring back the good old days. Yes, they were really that good.

I bought this CD for the song "Love Is Spoken Here" which was sung at my father's funeral, to celebrate his life and love of music, especially Church music. Our soloist was a friend whose voice warmed our breaking hearts. But when I saw that I could also get the Mormon Tabernacle Choir version along with many other beautiful American songs, I ordered this. I highly recommend MTC if you are seeking choir music to lift your spirit.

5 out of 5 stars Classic Ray Conniff from the late 60's!.......2007-05-24

This CD was another example of the wonderful sounds of Ray Conniff of the late 1960's and two of his original albums. Wonderful arrangements in the typical Conniff style. I can't get enough of listening to this either with the chorus singing or humming to the musical instruments! Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Conniff Covers More Contemporary Songs.......2002-12-30

Collectables has released a string of Ray Conniff albums, most from the late '60s and early '70s, all of which get high star ratings.

"Turn Around, Look at Me", is truly a great album. I have to admit I never liked his cover of "Mrs. Robinson" but I love the rest of this album. The highlights to me are "Turn Around, Look at Me", "MacArthur Park", and a sparkling version of "Moon River". Conniff never really lets you down with his versions of these songs!

"I Love How You Love Me" is another exciting Conniff adventure of hits with the wonderful Conniff treatment. It opens with an exciting version of "Those Were the Days" and seeps its way from track to track ending with the touching "Abraham, Martin, and John". And who would have thought Conniff could cover "Hey Jude"? Wow! Not a bad arrangement at all. This is a great album and I don't regret buying it at all, but then again you can never regret buying a Ray Conniff CD!1

5 out of 5 stars His 2 Greatest Albums on 1 CD! Long Overdue!.......2002-06-19

Finally, somebody got the idea to reissue these 2 great albums on 1 CD! These are 2 of the greatest Easy Listening albums of all time. They are right up at the top of my list with albums such as 1961's "Wheels & Orange Blossom Special" by Billy Vaughn and his orchestra. I got my first copy of Turn Around Look At Me when I was 3, and have gone thru 4 copies of this LP since! (Not to mention 1 eight track tape). I got I Love How You Love Me on LP When I Was 8 and I love it just as much as Turn Around... Now if only the folks at Collectables Records would push Universal to let them reissue Billy Vaughn's Dot Albums On CD...

5 out of 5 stars Better than Wake the Dead.......2006-01-30

I got this CD after purchasing Wake the Dead. This CD can't even be compared to their second album. Wake the Dead is good and a great piece of catchy hardcore, but this CD is just so much better. The breakdowns are brutal and so refreshing. It's good to know that there are still bands out there that play good hardcore like Comeback. These guys are great live, and I recommend that everyone should see them. Buy either albums, they are both good, but this one is booming.

5 out of 5 stars amazing? yeah.......2005-12-09

yeah, i'm not here to write some long review saying how much everyone should love this album...i'm here to write a review stating how much I loved this album.

and i did...i loved it.

so if you're into stuff like bane, kids like us, anchors away, maybe even TERROR and you don't already have this album, it would be a good idea for someone like you to pick it up.

5 out of 5 stars hahahah.......2005-11-05

this kid below me hates cbk, yet he posts as a "GC Fan". gimme a break. This, along with a few of my bane cds, is my favorite hardcore album. Thats pretty serious since i have over 500 cds, half of which are straight up hardcore. This album is fantastic, if you love melodic hardcore with melodies and breakdowns, this is the perfect album. Much better than Wake the Dead. Pick this up

1 out of 5 stars Crapy Crapy Crapy Crapy music, i feel so sorry for these guys........2005-10-14

    5 out of 5 stars Disco re-vival?...Even better!.......1999-04-23

After showing us her Cuban background with the album "mi tierra," Gloria took a classic disco hit and added to it a little something...more Latin flavor! This updated version of "turn the beat around" is a hit!

5 out of 5 stars turning the WHOLE WORLD around !!!.......1999-04-22

Vicky Sue has to admit defeat after listening to this 90's version of her smash disco hit. Let's face it, Gloria Estefan certainly puts much more "salsa" into "turn the beat around" than anybody. P.S. love the remixes...anyone wanna dance?

5 out of 5 stars They sound...Just Like The Delfonics.......2004-02-03

Having worked personally with the guys in the 70's on the east coast in a showcase as an opening act for them I can tell you they "Black Ivory can really Jam". Their choreography is as tight as their sound. They gave my group and band stiff competition. "Don't Turn Around, You and I" are the main hits. They even did a powerful live rendition of The Delfonics hit " For The Love That I give To You". If you decide to buy this music....you'll also open the doors to your mind.

    3 out of 5 stars Major Omissions.......2003-02-21

No Black Ivory album is worth the title of 'classic' with out including 'Spinning Around'.

    4 out of 5 stars WHERE????????.......2002-12-27

What ever happened to these guys. And then it seems to be the only thing in print by them. They had great harmony and wonderful music arrangements. This CD is great, and it would have gotten 5 stars from me, if we were not cheated out on the "You and I" song. This was one of their stand-out songs with the original version stretching out a little over 7 minutes long, with an opus-like ending full of strings and stacks of harmony, almost chaotic, but wonderful. No this karaoke throw-back version that is heard here.

4 out of 5 stars Not All Original But Good.......2002-10-08

This album will have you wanting to go back to that time in your life when everything was simple.Basement parties with the black light. With the acception of "You and I" which is not the original, but still enjoyable to listen to, this is a good album to take you back down memory lane and have you wanting more.A blend of harmonies and melodies that you won't hear in todays music.Enjoy the music.

    5 out of 5 stars Very SOulful.......2000-05-21
