About the Artist
Music has always been a part of Maestro Jerard’s life. Born in 1946, his affinity for music was recognized at an early age. Encouraged to explore his talent, he performed in musical theater and opera. His efforts were distinguished with the lead role of Amahl in Carlo Menotti’s opera, "Amahl and the Night Visitors."

When graduated from high school Jerard entered the University of California at Los Angeles where he furthered his interest in music with the study of musical composition. In his third year Jerard departed the university to join the United States Air Force. But he carried his love of music with him. During his four year enlistment he devoted his free time to the classical guitar, learning basic techniques and discovering the nuances of the instrument.

Soon after leaving military service Jerard was married. He started a career, became a daddy and so began a life of commitment. His principal resolution, to be a good and loving husband and father, defined the parameters of his life. As his career progressed he fulfilled that promise. In 1983 he became a mortgage loan officer at a bank, a position he holds today.

As his life took shape Jerard never strayed far from the music he loved. The interest he maintained in the classical guitar evolved into a passion. Through intense study and practice, combined with a talent to arrange, compose and transcribe music, the Maestro has created a collection of work which includes some of the world’s great music, much of which had never before been transcribed for the guitar.

The Maestro produced his first collection on compact disc in 1996, a second followed in 1999 and his most recent in 2002. He has crafted, arranged and performed these tunes using his abilities to evoke the full range and scope of the instrument. Each unique collection offers the listener a uniquely lush, beautiful and soothing sound.

Jackie Gleason was certainly one of the most respected, reminded and at least to my mind admired musical arrangers around the world. During his untiring activity, in which the music owned a major significance, importance and imaginative flight around the theme of love, where the suggestion and romantic mood was part of language, propitious for the ineffable encounter between two souls in love, the melodic tunes, lavish lyricism and outstanding inspiration all though these four previous decades make of this double album a true must not only for all those who want to enjoy an easy to listen music, besides, there's a lot of marvelous enchantment and majestic display of evocative sounds around a very selected repertoire.

This compilation features a lot of Gleason's more lush tunes.There is a few brass ones but most of them are lush.Meloncholy seranade is one of the brass ones though.If you love beautiful music you will love the following songs on this cd.

Glamour This is one of my favorites and also you occasionally here an organ mixed with the strings.

There are others.Almost every song on this cd is garnered with heavy lush strings and accompined by Bobby Hacket's horn.This Gleason cd get's played on dish networks easy instrumentals channel 973 and also gets played at wktz at jones.edu.A lot of beautiful music stations use to play these songs by Gleason.
Unfortuanly most music stores like best buy and media play have decided not to carry this title they use to but it's good to know you can still get it from amazon.com.Just put this cd on when you want to relax.It's ashamed radio stations don't play relaxing music by Jackie Gleason,Percy Faith,Frank Chacksfield,the 101 Strings and others any more but at least we can enjoy them on cd.I also recommend Jackie Gleason's instrumental favorites cd.It has got a lot of beautiful music that isn't on this one if you can still find it.A lot of people usually associate Gleason with the honeymooners tv show but they don't realize he was an important beautiful music artist as well.

IF THIS BOX SET ONLY HAD THE SONG "MIDNIGHT SUN", THAT IN ITSELF WOULD BE WORTH THE PRICE. THIS SONG IS SO BEAUTIFULLY DONE. HOWEVER, THERE ARE OTHER GREAT SONGS AS WELL LIKE "LAURA", "THAT'S ALL", "RUBY", "IF HE WALKED INTO MY LIFE". ALL DONE IN THE BEAUTIFUL RELAXING SERENE STYLE THAT THE JACKIE GLEASON ORCHESTRA IS KNOWN FOR.

The Holy Grail of Choral Recordings.......2006-07-03

This was the first choral CD I've ever purchased when I started becomming involved with choir during my senior year of high school five years ago. My director was telling the choir that he had finally found his copy at a music store and referred to it as the "Holy Grail" of choral recordings. So, I went out to find my own copy and I'm still blown away by it today. I've even given copies as gifts. The music is certainly relaxing and such, but what I most value from it is the spiritual magic. The Choir of Trinity College, Cambridge (then and now my favorite choir in the world) brings every composition to life in such a way that's pure, elegant, and deep. Listening to this music and enjoying this choir has allowed me to set my own standard of singing and compositional excellence.

One Small Correction.......2004-03-06

I keep finding new things to love on this CD, including the fact that it has the first recording I found of Gabriel Faure's beautiful Soprano (or Soprano/Alto) duet Ave Maria., Opus 93. The same recording appears on another CD where the singers are named. The above description of this selection unaccountably adds a baritone. Incidentally, Faure also composed a shorter SATB Ave Maria, which John Rutter has recorded.

I only wish the recording included the complete text of Psalm 50/51 from Gregorio Allegri's Miserere Mei Deus. This might come from John Rutter's recently edited score, published by Oxford Press, if I'm not mistaken. I, for one, do not find this selection (or indeed the entire recording) too long and I believe that the embellishments at the end (mentioned in another review) are probably correct when considering performance conventions of the time of its composition.

Gorgeous music, gorgeous performances.......2003-06-19

I am a semi-professional singer with a BA in Music, and I bought this CD with some trepidation because it looked like one of those dreadful "pop classical" compilations that are everywhere lately. But it had lots of great repertoire all in on place, so I decided to risk it, and I was not disappointed! In fact, this is now one of my favorite choral CDs.

As usual, the Choir of Trinity College delivers stunning performances, and the music itself is just gorgeous. Lots of "church" favorites from a wide range of musical periods. The mood of the CD is definitely on the mellow side, but it's perfect for those quiet moods. I love this CD -- highly recommended!

Stunning collection suitable for music nuts or newbies alike.......2002-03-18

Even as an avid fan of classical music with very picky tastes, there was just so much good music packed on these two (cheap!) discs for me to take in at once!
The perfectly balanced and locked chords can really give you chills.

I gave this CD as a present to a good friend of mine who was not so familiar with the genre, with tremendous results. I think this would make a great gift to anyone with the slightest inclination towards classical music.

The Greatest Music CD there Ever Was.......2006-05-10

I am a boy who dislikes Romantic Music. I love video game music. But this CD whisked my heart away, and now that I have lost my copy, I have longed deeply for the days--just two years ago--that I listened to this CD endlessly. A beautiful alignment in music will capture you in a trance like now other--from the haunting tones of the Intermezzo, to the forceful Monteques & Capulets. I'm not so keen on what comes after Monteques & Capulets, but nonetheless, this is a CD to end all CDs. I recommend it to anybody who simply likes to listen to music without words! Just listen to it while doing something else; maybe with headphones. Enjoy, relax, and feel the songs travelling through you.

The Art of Virgil Fox Vol. 2.......2007-04-01

I find the recording quality of this CD to be very good. As a child I had the opportunity to meet the organist Virgil Fox through my mother, who was a friend and colleague of his (she was the soprano soloist at the Riverside Church where he was organist - the Riverside Church is also the place where the recordings were made). I also heard Mr. Fox live and found him to be a first-class artist. I can recommend the CD without reservation. Alexander Stevenson

This CD is just a small sample of the greatness of Virgil Fox. However, it is a must-have. It demonstrates the breadth of works which Fox mastered and in the more sentimental songs, those which he beautifully interpreted during his illustrious career; and these recordings at Riverside Church are an indispensable part of his legacy. The program starts with the majestic "We All Believe in one God", where we hear the control of dynamics and unique way Fox played Bach. Vaughn-Williams' work is an interesting fantasia on the familiar religious tune. The highlight of the CD is the Perpetuum Mobile. A favorite concert piece of Fox, it is an amazing flurry of notes, showing his amazing mastery of the pedalboard, and building to a tremendous crescendo and brilliant arpeggio. Giga is a rapid, merry piece which romps along in the manuals. Tracks 1-4 are the virtuoso organ pieces. Starting with Love's Old Sweet Song, # 5-13, the great interpretations of transcriptions, songs, and sentimental American pieces begin. The piano work Kamenoi Ostrow is a great transcription.
