"... when Levasseur lets go, heads turn to see where "The Voice" is coming from."

Product Description
If you currently listen to the pop/soul music on the radio, but yearn for a refreshing new vocal stylist that leaves you with the feeling you were on an incredible journey of emotions of highs and lows , this is the artist for you. Denises dynamic voice, from breathy and tender to bold and powerful, is her calling card. These tunes are radio ready, clear and cutting.

If Whitney Houston, Faith Hill, and a more feminine voice of Taylor Dayne were sisters, Denise would be the fourth sister, combining all of these traits together.

Denise brings together an innocence and sincerity in her writing , while keeping a soulful attitude throughout her vocals.

" I write many of my lyrics when Ive read an incredible book. I highly recommend 'When Ordinary People Do Extraordinary Things' by Gerald Jampolsky, 'Illuminata' by Marianne Williamson. Also when Ive seen an unforgettable movie like The Horse Whisperer, Bridges of Madison County, The Red Violin, or taking a long drive back to Northern New England, I try to keep a recorder, notebook and pen with me. Another way is when Im just about to drift off to sleep and I cant get a melody out of my head. Ive learned to always get up and sing it in the recorder because many times I think Ill remember it in the morning but no way! Ive lost some good tunes that way. I also dream about music melodies; thats the easy way to write, its like your subconscious writes it for you. Not all of the songs I wrote are on this CD, but theyll be on the next one."

Some of the song formulas are slightly untraditional (no recipes for these songs) changing tempos and rhythms when you least expect it . The tunes "Tell The World" , "On my own" (a song with attitude) and the story song ; "You Once Said You Loved Me" are some examples of this type of writing style. "Tell The World is a bit bluesy and fun", says Denise.

Other songs are beautifully timeless and traditional, leaving you singing in the grocery store, car and shower because the hooks are clever and catchy. Great tunes such as "Thats What Our Love Is All About", "Ill Help You Find Your Way" and "Youre Still In My Heart" capture purely and simply, the magic of a great ballad.

You want to have fun? Crank up the dance tunes and move that bod! The other songs on this CD are lively, playful and really kick! Youll really enjoy "Losing My Control" and "All My Love".

This CD has a mixture of artists with completely different backgrounds and influences making this a blend worth listening to.

The producer, Tony Walstra, introduced all of the artists and musicians to one another after a production deal between Denise and a major producer never reached completion.

Everyone was excited to embark upon a new adventure in writing and composing songs with Denise. With dedication, fun and late hours, the CD has at last come to life!

"I am forever grateful for working with some of the most talented people in New England. Even before I wrote songs with the musicians on this project, I learned many extraordinary things being involved in a major production deal with a talented producer. I hooked up with Tony shortly after the end of the first production deal and knew he was the one to take on my project. Take it on he did! ... putting everything he had into it. He is an inspiration to work with, always cheering me and everyone involved to go the extra mile."

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The writing here is as solid as the production.........2000-07-24

"Denise Levasseur." Denise Levasseur (Angelman Records): It speaks volumes about the caliber of musical talent in this area (Southeastern Connecticut).

A singer since her high school days in Rhode Island, Levasseur teamed up with producer Tony Walstra to hone in on her studio skills. The result is a consistently solid disc packed with catchy pop dance tracks and lush ballads genuinely worthy of airplay alongside the likes of Faith, LeAnn and Britney.

Smartly balanced between upbeat dance tunes like "All My Love" and the well-orchestrated love ballads such as "That's What Our Love Is All About" and " "I'll Help you Find Your Way," the album also throws in a few nice surprises. There's a heartfelt remake of Martha Reeve's "Heatwave" and a catchy hand-clapping gospel-based number called "Tell The World."

The writing here is as solid as the production, with several ballads that sound as if they might have come right off any one of those Oscar-winning Alan Menken or Tim Rice Disney scores.

Levasseur performed at Fort Trumbell in New London during a torrential downpour the last day of OpSail2000, and hopefully she'll do some more local gigs in the near future.

4 out of 5 stars Levasseur has a great voice.... effortlessly catchy.......2000-07-19

In this reign of Britney and Christine - a new generation of dance-beat/sugar-pop vixens following in the formidable footsteps of Glora Estefan and even Donna Summer - it comes as a bit of a surprise to come across Denise Levasseur, a resident of Waterford, recording for an upstart New London record label. What's even more pleasant is to realize how utterly competitive this CD is. While Levasseur doesn't come off as exhilaratedly ecstatic to be discovering her own hormones - as do Britney and Christine - her ballads and dance material could easily fit into their radio formats anywhere in the country. The production, by label honcho Tony Walstra and Michael Bowdre, is terrific and crisp, and the songs are effortlessly catchy. Levasseur co-wrote the bulk of the material (save for a servicably interesting remake of "Heatwave"), and stuff like "Losing My Control" and "All My Love" are perfect disco or aerobics soundtracks.

Levasseur has a great voice for this kind of stuff, and it shines particularly well on the slower tunes. "That's What Our Love Is All About," "Tell the World," and "You Once Said You Loved Me," with its Spanish guitar flourishes, are high points. While this sort of pop music is certainly not for everyone, it sports a substantial niche in the music business - and it's a pleasant surprise that southeastern Connecticut has not only a talent like Levasseur but the production skills to put out an album of this quality.
