Nashville Parent
First-rate musicality abounds. Children's music that's fun, appealing and new.

Product Description
This album is get-up-out-of-your-seat, toe-tapping, foot-stomping, hand-clapping, music for kids (and their parents will love it too) that is never preachy or sickly-sweet, just lots of fun. This much anticipated album is a follow up to Tom Weber's popular release, "I Like Being a Kid" and features Tom's signature energy and silliness with all new musical instruments and even some live tracks. Lots of fun for the whole family!

3 out of 5 stars Pleasant Enough.......2007-02-19

A pleasant score. Fine singing, especially the wonderful Liz Callaway. The score, however, doesn't have those one or two numbers that stand out and stop you in your tracks. I haven't seen the show, and perhaps when integrated with the text.....

5 out of 5 stars Pure joy.......2005-03-08

I have bought this CD with Wild party and each of them was amazing. Fist I have heard Wild party and after that I haven't thought that I would enjoy the second one but Brownstone was simply so amazing. I didn't skip songs, because all of them are beautiful sung by actors who's singing voice are pure, strong and wonderful.
As you can see, I'm a true Brian D'arcy James fan but each singer amazed me, really.
Buy this Cd if you want to hear a fantastic musical.

4 out of 5 stars A Different Type of Musical.......2004-03-09

I bought BROWNSTONE at the recommendation of a friend and have mixed feelings. I know this show has quite a history as far as transfer from off-Broadway to Broadway and the controversy surrounding its revamping for its journey to the Great White Way. I think the songs are catchy and clever, I just am sort of turned off by the orchestrations. The instruments sound like they are coming from a computer built in 1990. They sound too fake and I think there could be better orchestration, though the melodies are nice. Some songs are just corny like The Cell Phone Song, added only recently. Certain songs are great like The opening, Fiction Writer, Camouflage, and Babies on the Brain.

I would say that if you are looking for a musical CD to add to your collection that is a little different from what you're used to, BROWNSTONE is for you. And also, it features an amazing cast of seasoned veterans and new comers as well.

All in all, a nice CD.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome musicians!!!!!.......2006-07-25

These guys Bowes & Morley are fantastic musicians and should be playing constantly on the radio. The music sounds different than a Thunder album but still packs a punch. My favourite songs on this CD are you're drifting away, change, the river of life and sick & tired. I am a huge fan of Thunder and Bowes & Morley and think they are one of the greatest rock bands around. Great album!!

5 out of 5 stars these guys..............2004-05-08

....have done no wrong in 15 years or so, be it with their main project Thunder or on their side project Bowes and Morley. This is a bit more varied than Thunder, but these guys are all about quality music. Two of the most consistent musicians in the last 15 years! The U.S. needs to wake up and perhaps have a musical equivalent of the Boston Tea Party. Europe & Japan know better and have around 10 or so releases from these UNDERRATED / UNDER THE RADAR / MUSICAL KINGPINS! Well worth seeking out!!

1 out of 5 stars hmmm..........2007-06-23

I hate to smack-talk, but i can't say i'm terribly impressed with these recordings. I think Pittel's playing (at least as I hear it on the cd) would be a lot more effective if he worked on intonation...like, a lot. It makes me cringe. also, articulation is quite offensive at times. Not very graceful.

For the Creston Sonata, I recommend recordings of Donald Sinta, Arno Borkamp, and Eugene Rousseau.
Ibert: Arno Bornkamp did a swell rendition of this on the album "A Saxophone in Paris".
For the Dahl Concerto, check out Joseph Lullof.
Maurice's Tableaux: Look for Claude DeLangle's album entitled "A la Francaise"
Vocalise: Try to find recordings by Joseph Lullof, Arno Bornkamp, and also look for good vocal recordings.

I feel that Harvey Pittel is indeed very overated in the classical saxophone world in the same way Kenny G is in the "jazz" saxophone world...well maybe that's not such a great parallel. Hopefully you get what I'm saying, though.
And for those of you who are defending Pittel's playing...be truthful please. And for that person who said he's the greatest classical saxophone player alive, you obviously haven't heard much good classical saxophone playing, or there's something wrong with your ears (no offense).
I really wonder how Mr. Pittel was able to get as far as he did....

1 out of 5 stars i dont know how some people get record deals.......2007-04-06

do i even need to go on. that is the WORST rendition of the creston i have ever heard. i have heard undergraduates play it infinitely better. and they can actually play it at the tempo intended by creston. time is only beiginning of things i could stab at this album about.

5 out of 5 stars Great album.......2007-03-30

I dont know how people can say he is horrible, when he has played with every major orchestra in the united states, played under some of the greatest conductors and composers of our time, done tons of studio work, and single-handedly established saxophone teaching jobs in california. There were saxophone teachers, but they were clarinet players who doubled. If he is so horrible, how did he accomplish all that. This is not his best CD, but as a saxophonist he is legendary.

1 out of 5 stars I just listened to the sample and I hated it.......2006-06-02

This is awful. Listen to Euguene Rousseau instead!

5 out of 5 stars Saxphone Player's Review.......2006-02-23

I have to also come to Harvey's defense. I dont know what most of you are hearing, but the pieces done by pittel are amazing. Most saxophone recordings are done by people who are just trying to play fast, there is no emotion or dynamic. However, Harvey does a very good job. He plays hem at a solid tempo and has amazing dynamic contrast. This is an excellent cd.

As created by renowned illustrator Gary Baseman, Disney's Teacher's Pet spins the wistful tale of Spot, a dog who wants to be a boy, but whose mad scientist/would-be benefactor miscalculates his dog-year math and gives the hapless hound the body of a middle-aged man instead. But as did South Park before it, the film adaptation of the Emmy honored series trumps its small-screen rival with an ambitious musical soundtrack that's not only an unexpected delight, but one whose songs and performances sometimes rival many an over-hyped, contemporary Broadway stage production in the bargain. After the bouncing teeny pop of co-star Christy Carlson Romano's title track cover dispenses with the youth marketing angle, the album settles into a collection that's split between the more traditional show sensibilities of songwriters Cheri Steinkeller, Randy Peterson and Kevin Quinn and Stephen James Taylor's more contemporary pop/swing/rock pastiche underscore. Broadway vet Nathan Lane infuses his title role with dollops of loopy sincerity and charm on the opening "I Wanna Be a Boy," the wistful ballad "A Boy Needs a Dog" and elsewhere, while Kelsey Grammer imparts his mad scientist turn "I, Ivan Krank" with a delightful, perfectly-pitched hammy bravura. Underappreciated musician/actor Jack Sheldon swings merrily through "Take the Money and Run" while Debra Jo Rupp, David Ogden Stiers, Megan Mullally, Jerry Stiller, Shaun Fleming and Paul Reubens variously make even the briefest of turns memorable on the singalong "Whole Bunch of World," the merry march "Small But Mighty" and the goofy canine affirmation of "Proud To Be a Dog." --Jerry McCulley

4 out of 5 stars Fantastic.......2004-02-04

This is a very good CD. "Teacher's Pet" is my favorite song on the CD.

The following is a reply to CowPunk©'s question:

"What I really wanna know is; who did this arrangement of the 1956 Joe Lubin tune "Teacher's Pet"? (Doris Day recorded it in 1958)

It's driving me wacky... I know it had to be one of my old '80's power pop faves now making a living in Toon Town cuz their kids are watching the same shows as mine. Which is cool- just who is it? I do love that Power Pop sound.

CowPunk©"

No, that's Christy Carlson Romano. She played Ren Stevens in "Even Stevens" and voices Kim in "Kim Possible"(both Disney Channel series).

I agree about the sound.

5 out of 5 stars Better than Broadway.......2004-01-21

The happiest score in years! These are songs to memorize and sing along with. More fun than a B'way cast album. Think of South Park, Family Guy or Simpsons, except that everyone can join in the song-fest!

3 out of 5 stars Disney's Teacher's Pet.......2004-01-20

Certainly some of the tunes are funny and some homages to Disney classics contained therein. Redeeming social value? Get a life! I believe the soundtrack in this case is worthless without the visuals. Anyway, "Teacher's Pet" is much better as a 30 min TV gig.

I'd like to discuss this soundtrack with anyone interested...especially you, Bondorf. My email address is Janarrah1@aol.com....I think this soundtrack was fairly radical for Disney...almost on par with the South Park soundtrack. ONe of the songs struck me as a (sunconcious?) take on "Be Prepared" from The Lion King...but since they got away with using the Blue Fairy/Pincocchio riff and this is a Disney production, the rules of fair use are pretty flexible. What other songs did any of you hear echos of in this soundtrack?

5 out of 5 stars Another Masterpiece of Improvisation!.......2005-10-06

Collective 4tet is probably one of the greatest free jazz groups of all time. Each member contributes equally, thus meriting the "collective" moniker. Each "song" is created spontaneously. They never play the same "song" twice. Trombonist Jeff Hoyer is amazingly inventive and very melodic. Mark Hennen's piano playing fits in perfectly, as does percussionist Heinz Geisser. William Parker, the leading bassist today in jazz avant-garde, provides another consistently fascinating voice. The music "swings" in its own very unique way. The players listen to each other closely and strive to create a complex musical tapestry, full of drama and passion. They do not use the conventional alternation of lead solos and background. As Wayne Shorter said of Weather Report, they are all soloing all the time. Unlike some free jazz, this is free from the obnoxious honks and skronks of the less talented. The music is truly musical, accessible and pleasant, with layers of depth and meaning that reward repeated listenings. All their CDs are unique, equally fascinating, and highly recommended to fans of free jazz and just plain great music. Get this CD while you can as they tend to sell out fast.
