Editorial Reviews
Resolve is the debut full-length release from John Haydon & Ten Worlds (RadioFly Records). The band, formed just a year ago, in comprised of musicians with years of experience playing in and around New England. The band claims as influences Tom Petty, Lucinda Williams, The Jayhawks, Crowded House, Steve Earle, Bob Dylan and Hank Williams to name a few.
John Haydon has been writing heartfelt songs since he was just 13 years old. I really feel that my writing has developed tremendously, especially from playing with really great people over the past five years. After studying at Berklee (Bass), John joined Bostons Five Dollar Milkshake playing bass and singing back-up vocals on two CDs. The second CD, Apartinthemiddle received considerable air play throughout New England. Five Dollar Milkshake brought John to venues including the Kendall Cafe, the Paradise and Mamakin.
After two and a half years playing with FDM, John joined up with singer/songwriter, Matt Griffin & Jerry OHare and put together Matt Griffin and House AFire. With Matts influence, John finished refining about twenty songs that were ready to take to a band. Through that experience and with the help of Jerry OHare, Claudia Heiman, Steve Chaggaris and Seth Peterson, John Haydon & Ten Worlds was born!
Resolve is a strong roots/rock album with a diverse palette of styles. From the Toad-like pop tune Just Getting Swayed, to the radio-friendly Nothing New, to the neo-traditional North Star, Resolve has much promise. The band started recording in September of 1999 at 7A West Studios, and then mixed at Zippah Recording Studios with Peter Weiss who also produced Charlie Chesterman. They finished up at JP Masters with Dave Locke, who has also mastered many other greats including Krebstar and Catie Curtis.
Band members: John Haydon - Vocals, Rhythm Guitars
Steve Chaggaris - Drums
Seth Peterson - Bass
Jerry O'Hare - Guitar, Mandoguitar and Mandolin

Evidence that one can make a musical about anything, Exhibit A: 1776. As one might expect, the whole concept of making a musical about the creation and signing of the Declaration of Independence was greeted in the late 1960s with, well, ridicule. The show debuted on Broadway in 1969, and three years later, when its run finally ended, it was its producers who had the last laugh. In addition, it toured for an additional two years and beat out Hair (in 1969 yet!) for a Tony Award. This recording, with the original Broadway cast, includes many of the same actors who went on to star in the film, the version with which most audiences today are probably familiar. One notable exception is Rex Everhart, who replaced Howard da Silva at some performances and on this recording. But there's still William Daniels as John Adams, though in some cases his performance is more subdued than it was on film. Musically, 1776 is an odd creation, considering when it came into being. As one might expect, there's a lot of fife and drum going on, especially in the opening number and during "The Lees of Old Virginia." For those less than familiar with the plot, it hinges on the idealism of Adams, who's trying his best to back up the American Revolution with some legislative action, and spends much of his time arguing with either the Continental Congress or God, as in "Piddle, Twiddle, and Resolve": "A second flood, a simple famine / Plagues of locusts everywhere / Or a cataclysmic earthquake / I'd accept with some despair / But no, you sent us Congress / Good God, sir, was that fair?" (One could argue that he gets further with God.) While not entirely historically accurate, and containing some rather peculiar numbers (Franklin, Jefferson, and Adams sitting around debating what their new country's national bird is going to be ranks among the oddest), there's no questioning 1776's staying power. --Genevieve WilliamsCustomer Reviews:

And as to the reviewer who was shocked that it would win out over HAIR? Listen to "Mamma Look Sharp" or "Molasses to Rum to Slaves" to hear exactly the play's political and often-unflattering ideological landscape. This was definitely a Vietnam-era play whose content was as disturbingly pertinent, then, as it is, now. And, despite all of this, the score and play never become leaden or preachy. On the contrary, each performance is a gem, and each character is witty and unique. Who knew that history could be a passionate and fun adventure?

Brilliant, Definitive and Remarkably Accurate!.......2005-12-18
William Daniels IS John Adams to many people, and even though the story of the birth of the United States probably wasn't this lyrical and lively, Composer Sherman Edwards was historically accurate in the facts of the tale.
In addition to learning about the signing of the Declaration of Independence, this is also love story... in fact two love stories, with John Adams and his wife Abigail, separated by circumstance and interacting only in his mind, and Thomas Jefferson and his wife, Martha, here, played by the big throated (and now legendary) Betty Buckley.
There is also a sense of fraternity, with the members of the Continental Congress grappling with the concept of breaking away from a tyranical ruler. And even though you know the outcome, the story is still filled with tension and excitement in the mechanics of it. Just how DID this country get formed?
The disc's liner notes explain the show's libretto and give you some rare behind-the-scenes info about the creation of the musical, the challenges it faced before becoming the standard that it now is, and a bit about the amazing Mr. Edwards, which is a story worthy of being told as well.
It's an Independence Day must!

Tiffany Arbuckle Lee (aka Plumb) is somewhat of an enigma. She doesn't constantly grace the covers of magazines or music trades, yet her art is highly regarded in Christian (and beyond) music circles as both a songwriter and artist. She draws strong vocal comparisons to Dido and Amy Lee of Evanescence, yet it was the latter's own admission that her style is modeled after Plumb. Chaotic Resolve, Plumb's fourth studio release, is yet another outstanding testament to the gifts of this amazing young woman. Proving her lyrical prowess, Plumb aptly captures her essence on "Motion" when she sings, "Do I Make You Feel Uneasy/Do I Break Your Stupid Rule/Cause I Do Not Fit Your Idea/Of A Beautiful Girl." Therein lies the beautiful paradox of Plumb's art; she molds elements of rock, pop, electronica, and metal together and does so while singing about some difficult subjects like physical abuse, alienation, and depression. "I Can't Do This" and "Better" are telling examples with Plumb's edgy rock mixing strangely well with strings from the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Give credit to producer Matt Bronleewe--an original Jars of Clay member, if you didn't know, and a fine musician in his own right--who has worked from the beginning with Plumb, and wraps her music together in a stunning way. For long-time fans, you'll appreciate popish tracks like "Blush (Only You)," "Real Life Fairytale," and "Sleep," which sound like extra takes from the brilliant Candycoatedwaterdrops. The stark and majestically beautiful "Cut" showcases Plumb's wonderful voice, and don't miss how she soars with eagles on this dramatic song. --Michael LyttleCustomer Reviews:
Absolutely Awesome!.......2007-07-31
This CD is filled with original splendor, words of praise, and a definite commitment to advancing the grace of Jesus Christ for the blessed listener. I bought this CD because I could never hear "I Can't Do This" enough when it was played on our local Christian radio. I was hoping the rest of the CD would be just as good. I was not disappointed.
Let's take a look at what PUMB has to offer:
Track #1 BLUSH - Talk about a song that any husband would love to have dedicated to him...this is it. What makes this song so amazing is PLUMB's beautiful voice on the chorus parts. When we first love God, we are able to love our significant other with that unbelievable love Hollywood spends billions to recreate on the silver screen. This kind of love causes humans to blush with purity and commitment.
Track #2 I CAN'T DO THIS - This is a song that sounds like Evanescence gone Gospel! I absolutely love this song, the music behind the vocals, the message, and PLUMB's ability to create such a powerful tune. Have I mentioned I really like this song?
Track #3 REAL LIFE FAIRY TALE - Can life really be like a fairy tale? I believe it can be. When people love from the top down and the bottom up, we experience amazing happiness and joy - a joy that seems unexplainable. Happy endings do happen - this song is about that possibility and that reality.
Track #4 BETTER - Evanescence with Jesus returns...I'm only joking, PLUMB, so please don't be angry. Wow, I believe this song is about overcoming evil with good and the Jesus-character such battles can buildup in our hearts. This CD is turning out to be homerun after homerun...good thing for me, since I purchased it!
Track #5 MANIC - The first confusing song on the CD, but even it has that spiritual tug-o-war between good and evil feel to it. There's just no stopping PLUMB's ability to compile great music on a CD!
Track #6 CUT - All I can tell you is this - just hearing PLUMB sing "I AM NOT ALONE" out loud the way she does in this song was worth the entire cost of the CD! What a fantastic voice!!!!!!!!!
Track #7 BITTERSWEET - Great start, unique style, and there is just no guessing where this song is going to go as you listen to it. It is indeed a great thing to have the power of grace pour over you - and this song is about that feeling of love we feel when we embrace the greatest love of all...
Track #8 GOOD BEHAVIOR - I have to admit, I have no idea where this song is coming from or going to, but it is catchy and exciting. So PLUMB is still riding a perfect wave on this CD.
Track # 9 MOTION - PLUMB has morphed into Lindsay Lohan and created the perfect dance song! Seriously, I could really see me dancing to this tune...as long as no one could see...
Track # 10 I HAVE NOTHING - A rocking good tune that accurately describes the way we come into this world and the way we leave it. Without the salvation God has brought us, we truly have not a thing. Good rock song and message and addition to this spectacular CD!
Track # 11 JEKYLL & HYDE - "You remind me of a cigarette"...not quite sure even a Saturday Night Live skit would start off a song spoof with such an amazing stretch of the imagination. Quite frankly, this is the only song that didn't cause me to celebrate my amazing purchase. This is the only song on the CD I have ever skipped over.
Track # 12 SLEEP - Anyone who cannot relate to this song has led a sheltered life. Everyone has a day where they just aren't sure they want to get out of bed in the morning. This song is about our dazed and confused (without drugs) times in life. Nice pace to this song. It's like PLUMB is just telling us a story with a little bit of background music. Another homerun!!!!
#13 DAMAGED - Freaky start to this one. This is also one of those songs that seems so original and unique it is hard to explain. We are all damaged - and this song reminds me that no matter how hard we try, we cannot rely on anything than the forgiveness Jesus has brought us! We can never make ourselves undamaged with our own works.
#14 PRAY FOR ME - Fast-paced reminder of what we need to do for each other. Pray for me...and I need to pray for you...and so the story goes. Man, I love this song!
Before I finish this review, I must point out that I wish I had more time and space to continue on about how good this CD is, but I don't. So, please consider that I could write for another 24 hours about what a pleasure this CD has been in my life. Add it to your CD collection - you won't be sorry!
See ya next review!

If you're looking for great music..........2007-04-29
This entire album is refreshing, due in part to the courageousness and openness Plumb dedicated to the subjects on this album as well as in the musical talent displayed. This is definitely one of the best finds I have come across in a long time. I would highly recommend this CD to anyone looking for something they can relate to and something that is honest.

From someone who despises American musical theater.......2007-06-04
In the Brent Spiner Fangirl Legal Contract, it specifies that said fangirl must purchase any and all vocal recordings containing said Brent Spiner (and that she will not, in any way or at any time, mention how much he sounds like Judy Garland on steroids). Which is why I purchased this CD.
He... ripped... into... this... part. That's the only way I can put it. I was floored from start to finish.
The work, as a whole, is something of a consuming thing. Be prepared to sit in silence for a few minutes after you're done with this one, because after hearing the whole thing, silence will be the only followup that does it justice.

The argument can be made that this musical was "of its time" meaning the 1960's, but I think the songs still hold up as they entertain as well as educate us. Much of the lyrics and dialogue are authentic.
Highly recommended.

Album Description
Music is often inspired by love, beauty and at time horrible loss. Earlier this yea Lagwagon and the entire FAT family experienced this with the death of the band's original drummer Derrick Plourde. Resolve is homage to the life of Derrick. As one of the first bands signed to FAT, Lagwagon helped to define the musical focus of label, and it turn the genre of punk rock as a whole.Customer Reviews:
Album worth a Review.......2006-09-05
But throw in the sensative underlying message in the equation(suicide), and it truly livens up the record. TRULY. The album is 3rd right after DUH and TRASHED.
NOTE: Drumming did go out the window after Plourde left! The man was sick. Bad astro showed none of his talent.
Pick this record up.
incredible.......2006-08-09
This Unbalanced..........2006-06-02
Well, now they've made a small retreat from _Blaze_ and have moved to a more straightforward song structure: of any Lagwagon album, the songs on _Resolve_ have the fewest parts and stops (Lagwagon's signature style), and the guitar solos aren't nearly as screaming as those on _Blaze_ or _Trashed_. The classic punk-gallop (eighth notes except on the second and fourth beat) makes an appearance in the opening track, in the last (listed) song, and in many of the songs between them ("Creepy" and "Virus" sound like grunge songs translated into basic punk).
This may sound negative, but the album's simplicity unifies the songs - the songs are straightforward because they serve the interests of the lyrics. And there are great moments in these songs, moments which fit the mood of the album: for instance, the dissonant resolution to the title track, or when "Infectious" opens in the key of D Major but moves to the relative minor for the verse. Even the song least characteristic of Lagwagon - "Automatic," whose vocal melody and phrasing are _very_ similar to Nirvana's "Polly" - has a moment reminiscent of "Defeat You" or of the opening to "Twenty-Seven".
Joey returns to familiar themes and images: burned bridges, inadequacy, dependency, alienation, etc. And because of the death of Derrick Plourde, Joey has written some very sharp lyrics. "Sad Astronaut" and "Infectious" are intense and some of the saddest stuff from Joey. The album isn't hopeful until the end with "Days of New" - and even then, the last few lines are bittersweet.
With its dark lyrics and fast, stripped-down music, _Resolve_ sounds like Lagwagon doing a Bad Astronaut album. That's not a bad thing, but this album offers none of the ornaments or humor of other Lagwagon albums.
Sad Loss Fuels Lgawagon.......2006-02-13
Fast-paced, fierce and full of unanswerable questions and aching anger, this tribute is a tear-inducing affair but without one ounce of sappiness or "poor me" sentiments. It's more of a therapy session for band and listener alike. "The Worst" deftly deals with the rage and bewilderment felt by loved ones and the final track "Day of New" gives a glimpse of hope and acceptance. The CD actually ends quietly and pensively with a secret track, an acoustic version of "The Chemist," a suitable song considering the circumstances. The combination of blistering guitar bursts, pummeling rhythms, impassioned vocals and thoughtful lyrics propels Lagwagon back to fine form and gives comfort to those who've suffered similar losses. For a nice visual tribute to Derrick, check out the video for " Heartbreaking Music."
The greatest rock band in modern history in their prime........2006-01-17
I realize there are so many great artists who've recorded in the last few decades. However, there is no band that can overtake the passion and desperation for life that lagwagon manages to bring to your ears. Pure truth, life and death.
I listen to Bowie, Miles Davis, Merle Haggard, Ataris, Supergrass, Ink Spots, Bobby Womack, Led Zeppelin, Harry Nilsson, etc, etc, etc. Amazing music is not foreign to me.
There is no band presently releasing tracks that surpasses the brilliance of lagwagon.
Resolve is the same.

Purcell fans will delight in this collection of 30 of his 85 secular songs. Barbara Bonney, singing with ease and controlled fervor, steals the recording with her endearing sound and impeccable musicianship. Soprano Susan Gritton brings a more dramatic perspective, singing with zest and a little edge that almost, but never quite, grates. Sometimes, however, she vibrates mildly out of control. Tenors Charles Daniels and Roger Covey-Crump sing with grace, joviality, and tenderness, but both are a little shallow throughout the bottom. Countertenor James Bowman occasionally stumbles with intonation, but always lands standing upright. This buffet of various voices captivates the listener's attention span, totally avoiding potential monotony. --Barbara Eisner BayerCustomer Reviews:
