Album Description

Jack's Mannequin, the angst-flavored, SoCal-vibed side project of Something Corporate's singer-song-writer Andrew McMahon, debuted live at SXSW and now debuts on album with Everything in Transit. Produced by Jim Wirt (Incubus, Alien Ant Farm), and featuring Motley Crue's Tommy Lee on drums, Everything in Transit offers yet another stage for the ethereal voice of an iconoclastic performer who is among alt-rock's most popular artists.

I'm a huge SoCo fan, so of course when I heard about Andrew McMahon's solo project I was excited. This cd was even better than I could have expected. I've listened to it about 1000 times, and I'm still not tired of it. It has catchy lyrics, and all the songs are cool and piano driven, which I love. Honestly there's not a bad song on it.

5 out of 5 stars Call it a comeback.......2007-03-09

Everything in Transit is the kind of CD you play on repeat in your car and don't get sick of...at least I haven't yet! I love each track from start to finish. I recently saw Andrew McMahon with Jack's Mannequin play at the 930 club and he sings and throws down on the piano even better live than he does on the album.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant and Intense.......2007-02-15

i don't like something corporate at all,
even north ,which i think is their less worst record, but mcmahon's jack's mannequin deliver amazing piano driven songs with so much grace that makes you wanna jump around the room,or just reflect a little bit 'bout life.

good music
i'm glad that he's ok

5 out of 5 stars The second coming of a future legend........2006-11-19

I won't waste my time and yours by doing a full review of 'Everything In Transit', Jack's Mannequin's flawless gem of an album; there is already ample gushing in the review section of the disc's original release. What I will do is tell you why, even if you already own the album, you owe it to yourself to purchase this re-release for the spectacular DVD footage it contains.

If you've never seen piano-playing frontman Andrew McMahon play a live show before, you're in for a treat. The 24 year old is a born entertainer and one of the most charismatic young performers you'll ever have the pleasure of encountering. But the shows recorded here are exceptional in that they represent the singer's return to the stage after a battle with leukemia that very nearly claimed his life. The first show on the disc took place a mere 100 days after the stem cell transplant that saved him and there is a touching irony to the record's seemingly carefree lyrics as Andrew, rail-thin and still bald from chemotherapy, sings, 'California in the summer / and my hair is growing long'. If the fans in the audience appear subdued, it is out of sheer relief. And after all he's been through, McMahon delivers a quiet but pitch-perfect set sprinkled with dialogue that is upbeat, gracious, and even, endearningly, a little nervous.

The second show set in New York City has a completely different vibe. Now sporting one of his trademark nerdy sweater vests and a headful of reassuring fluffy regrowth, McMahon gives his fans the kind of show they've come to expect from him; the kind that rocks one's face off. And while he's still a long way from flipping his piano over and lighting it aflame, stunts he was infamous for during his Something Corporate days, it is clear that his irrepressible energy and enthusiasm for music has returned full force.

And if that weren't enough, the disc also includes two beautifully crafted music videos. The animated floral explosion that is The Mixed Tape Version One (animated because McMahon was physically unable to record a video at the time it was released) and the stunningly gorgeous Dark Blue, which features a painful looking 40's era dance marathon (watch for Tommy Lee's cameo).

So, boys and girls, if you've always wanted to see a pheonix rise up from the ash, well, here's your chance. Despite being entirely too short, the poignant and triumphant live performances included with this rerelease are well worth the full price. And you can always use another copy of Everything In Transit, you know, for when your other one melts from overplaying. ;)

5 out of 5 stars Listening to vs. listening for; worthy and imaginative.......2007-07-27

It is true, perhaps, that with every new record the half-forgotten quest for a life-transforming musical revelation is renewed. These expectations are only alive because they are not supposed to be met. Instead, why not listen to what is emotionally charged, profoundly felt, or intricately conceived. If music is truly a "real-time" art form (and I do believe it is), I would much rather simply listen to what's out there and enjoy it, should it deserve to be enjoyed.

And I do find that there are things to listen to here, and plenty. The helf-serious stoppages at the beginning of the Toccata took me by surprise. The Ode moved me, and so did the very opening of the album. The works are written by a pianist for a pianist; the sonorities are rich, the textures inventive and the rhythms crisp. The performance, impeccable indeed, brings out not only these strong elements of Ms. Moon's music but also her own depth and strength as a player.

Throughout the history of classical music yesterday's overlooked jewels have frequently become today's repertoire staples. In our "post-post-modernist" era, such overlooking is an unforgivable luxury. Stop overlooking.

5 out of 5 stars Beata Moon.......2007-07-14

When I first listened to Beata Moon, I thought that she could go toe to toe with just about any pianist technique wise. Clearly, her extensive formal training is evident in her playing. But as I started to enjoy her talents, I realized that music should not be thought of in terms of a toe to toe fight or competition, as is so often the case in the recognized music schools. I think harmony is what it is all about.
Beata's music has an important harmonic role and place with all forms of real music. She is truly a gif

5 out of 5 stars Snazzy, Savvy Works from an Original Composer.......2007-06-29

This is Beata Moon's second CD, and I'm sure it won't be her last. She has a tremendous feeling for delicate, innovative sound puncuated by fascinating musical surprises. She's also a fabulous pianist (in these, her own works, and in the general repertory).

Buy and enjoy this CD, and try to catch her in performance!

2 out of 5 stars Unmemorable Piano Works by a Fine Pianist.......2007-06-27

The Naxos label has done a great service over the past years in bringing to our attention, via their recordings of new works, some engaging and even important works. This issue, however, is not one of those. The present collection of short piano pieces composed and played by pianist Beata Moon presents a number of essentially faceless, if harmless, works in a gentle and bland style -- think diluted, New-Age-tinged Hindemith or Persichetti -- that do little more than showcase Moon's excellent abilities as a pianist and provide unobjectionable background music. One cannot but think that these pieces started out as improvisations. One can picture Moon noodling at the piano and then ultimately notating the results. There are some mildly interesting things -- use of parallel fifths in the Sonata's third movement, or use of tricky metrics in the Toccata, or Debussyan harmonies in 'Ode' -- but even these have been done better by others. Far more interesting are Moon's fanciful titles; e.g., 'Chug-a', 'Sub (conscious) Way', a suite called 'Inter-Mez-Zo' in which the three pieces are, ahem, 'Inter', 'Mez' and 'Zo.'

One suspects we will not be hearing much more of Miss Moon as a composer. But I wouldn't mind hearing her play more substantial music.

I bought this cd and it is the best Cd I have ever had In My Entire 14 years of living and I've had quite a few cds in my lifetime. I Completely Recomend this cd to anyone on the entire earth

5 out of 5 stars Neither Corporate nor Bruised.......2006-07-08

Though noticably different from Something Corporate's North, Everything in Transit shares the vocals and most obviously the talent behind Something Corporate. Tracks like "Bruised" and "Dark Blue" are phenomenal examples of a narrative both surreal and familiar. The album's a pleasure from start to finish, and it really is a story. I'd recommend it to anyone who's a fan of Something Corporate or is a fan of genuine creativity in general.

      Album Description

2006 album from this Ambient/Electronica supergroup featuring Alex Paterson (The Orb), Jimmy Cauty (The KLF), Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd/session bassist) and Dom Beken (The Orb). Take a mix of the founding members of Ambient House whose revolutionary music changed the lives of a generation, put them together with A-list musicians and programmers and throw in a pinch of comedy for good measure and this is what you get! A kaleidoscopic banquet of anthems that makes dance music exciting and ambient again. With a history of ignoring convention and changing musical expectations, this collective' proved irresistible to guests such as Johnny Marr (ex-Smiths) and Simon Day (The Fast Show) and they happened to be in the vicinity at the time too, which helped. Malicious Damage.

5 out of 5 stars Review of this release.......2007-07-09

I have always loved Alex Patersons work and the folks he selected make the music mindscapes that have been around for many years. I picked up this release in hopes that the Transit kings were just "The Orb" with a different name. That how i felt right or wrong. I wasnt disappointed with this release. the Orb vibe i still felt with the amusing samples, beats and clicks. Living in a giant candle winking at god is the release of this album and also refers to a sole remaining lighthouse keeper on one of the tracks in which he describes how wonderful it is to live and operate a lighthouse. each track is unique on this release. but i heard alot of cymbal breaks that are crisp. some horns and lyric anthems that have a disneyesque quality to them. If you like The Orb, you'll love transit kings and this release.

5 out of 5 stars LO MEJOR DE SAGA.......2002-02-18

SIN LUGAR A DUDA ESTE ES UNO DE LOS MEJORES CD'S EN VIVO DE SAGA Y DEL MINDO DEL ROCK,NO CABE DUDA DE QUE SAGA ES UNO DE LOS GRUPOS QUE MAS SE PROYECTABA EN AL EPOCA DE LOS 80 AL IGUAL QUE RUSH POR CITAR UNO,PERO EN SUS GRABACIONES EN ESTUDIO NO PARECIAN TENER LA FUERZA Y ENERGIA QUE EN ESTE CD LE INPRIMEN DE MANERA MAJISTRAL POR ESTO Y SU IMPECABLE Y ORIGINAL INTERPRETACION DE LOS TEMAS CONTENIDOS EN ESTE ESPECTACULAR CD YO ME ATREVO A AFIRMAR QUE TODO AMANTE DEL ROCK DE LOS AÑOS 80 Y 90 NO DEBERIAN DUDAR EN TENER UNA COPIA.

        4 out of 5 stars Essential buy.......1999-09-08

"In Transit" is Saga's best-known album in Germany, and it's a sort of "Best of early-era Saga" compilation. I never liked Saga's studio albums much, because they always sounded like a pop-oriented Rush rip-off. But this live album is more energetic and doesn't wear thin after a few listens. I think every fan of '80s mainstream rock should have a copy of "In Transit".

4 out of 5 stars The definitive sampler on Saga-a criminally underrated band.......1999-02-23

From their first album in the late 1970's, Saga was a healthy blend of progressive synth rock with a dash of pop. The band has always suffered from an image problem: they're from Canada (some people instantly dismiss them as being in the same vein as Rush), have had considerable success in Europe (so many people think they're German or Dutch) and in Puerto Rico and Venezuela (hence the previous review and this one) They obviously haven't got the credit they deserve. And they deserve a lot.

This album pretty much serves as a compilation of their greatest hits before "Worlds Apart" came out. (These are mostly late 70's and early 80's songs) After that album, many fans found they went too much into pop/concept album fare (and thereby losing some direction). Listen to the clips. This is a tight unit, not your typical pop millionaires strumming away on a gig. The newer albums have much more of the same fine musicianship, but this one had hip-hop rhythms and strong guitar riffs long before they came into style. Definitely ahead of its time. Some technical flaws, but pretty much an accurate representation of the Saga sound, full of analog synths, Ian Crichton "chucka-chucka" guitar riffing, and Michael Sadler's warm, dramatic voice.

Don't count them out. Listen to the newer albums and judge by yourself. And if you like this album as much as I did, wait till you see them live...

5 out of 5 stars One of the 80's groups. They opened an era........1998-11-06

Maybe one of the best lp's I've ever heard - in my humble opinion. They had magic, an special mixture of sound and feeling. They had esence. The 80's were the best. SAGA is the sound of 80's.

5 out of 5 stars Great Sound for a live albumn.......2007-06-30

I was introduced to this CD in 1990-something by a friend. I was immediately impressed by the sound quality, being that it was digitally recorded (One of the first, I think). Generally, I don't like live CD's and don't have very many, since the sound quality was usually sub-par when compared to studio versions. That is not the case here! The highs are crisp and clear and the bass has solid punch to it. Check out the drum solo!

Saga is keyboard-based music rather than guitar-based (my preference), but they are excellent musicians and have a few big hits. But since I was only familiar with the Saga songs played on the radio and MTV, I had not heard some of these songs before. So, not only was I impressed by the sound, but by great songs new to me. I had been looking for this CD for years, but it was out of print. I'm glad it is available again. If you only have one Saga CD in your collection, this should be it.

        5 out of 5 stars Having Fun..........2006-04-11

The band is obviously having a good time and I am having a great time discovering the music of Saga! In fact, I haven't enjoyed exploring older "essential" stuff since I got hooked on old Genesis and Mahavishnu Orchestra 15+ years ago. Now am I comparing above said bands...no, that may get me in deep water with other reviewers here, but Saga is a very interesting and musical group that is worthy to be remembered as a band that added their unique sound to an already rich musical genre we call progressive. Anyway, this live album really "kicks" and has a fairly comprehensive set list of their earliest material (first 4 albums) that is a great place for newcomers to the band to get a taste. Oh, and don't let the running time of this disc stop you from getting it...it's well worth the $10 or $11 that Amazon is asking! ENJOY! Jeff

5 out of 5 stars Great live recording!.......2005-06-17

I have been an avid Saga fan since 1982. The first time I heard them it was obvious to me that they were excellent musicians as well as writers of very interesting and exciting music. A band with these qualities is always best when heard live because their professional edge and excitement is frequently lost in the studio recordings. That's what "In Transit" gives us, that intangible excitement that only superb live music has. One of my most frequently played CD's!

5 out of 5 stars ALL PERFORMANCES ARE EXCELLENT.......2004-07-11

All the performances on this live cd are excellnet. As compared to Detours all the same songs performed live are better here except maybe Humble Stance and How Long which rate about equally on both cd's and are better than the first Saga cd. This was sort of best of cd at the time. I suppose it could have more songs on it but they are some excellent live performances.

        5 out of 5 stars What a saga.......2003-10-17

My favorite songs from Saga are on this album. I like their honey-comb shape electric drum which makes a fun vibrating sound, check song "A brief case" a drum solo that has that electric drum and a regular drum. I like when their guitar is marching like an army as in "Humble stance". But the most interesting feature is their synthesizer. They do have nice stories. My favorite song "Don't be late" is dedicated and sang by myself to my boyfriend because he is always late.
