Muncie Rocks!.......2002-02-15
Muncie, Indiana is hardly thought of as one of the world's music capitals. "Pulling the Strings," the debut album of singer/songwriter Mike McKillip, may help change that. It's a pop-rock album featuring all original songs by McKillip, a popular Hoosier performer, backed by accomplished studio musicians. It features crisp musicianship, catchy tunes, and thoughtful lyrics. McKillip's songs cover a wide range of styles (ballads to rock) and show a definite McCartney-esque influence. "Pulling the Strings" is first rate.

Customer Reviews:
Steves best live album.......2006-04-14
Ill take this live album over his others, personally. I simply like the versions of the tunes here and the selection better. There are some real gems here. His playing in general is as good or better than it has been at any period in his career. The "sketches in the sun" is his best recorded live version as well his take on "classical gas". Steve uses backing tracks on some songs, to great effect. It enabled him to play songs in a one man show and even though I was worried about it, it works well here. The "turn of the century" is one of his best live performances. Im assuming since you are looking at this album that you realize that he isnt a great singer and that you can overlook that and appreciate it, unlike some other reviewers here who cant accept that the man likes to sing sometimes. If you like Steve Howe's work I cant imagine you not appreciating how good this album is. A must own for a SH fan.
Not Howe's best.......2000-02-02
Steve Howe is one of the finest guitar players there is. He is also the worst singer of all time. It is bad to such an unbelievable level that surely his producers, friends and fellow musicians have told him not to do it. And yet here again is a CD with about 8 or 9 tracks that are almost unlistenable because of his vocals. The other 8 or 9 tracks are instrumental and very good. While there is some singing (fortunately less than this CD)on "Not Necessarily Accoustic" , it is a much stronger collection of guitar work and is the live Steve Howe CD to have. "Quantum Guitar" is probably Howe's best studio work and, no surprise, has NO SINGING bogging down the great guitar playing. The Steve Howe Album is also excellent. The beauty of CD players is that you can program in the good songs to hear without having to listen to a whole album. On this CD you need to program in the instrumentals and leave out the cuts with Howe singing.
Howe Magnificent.......1999-12-30
Even non-guitar afficianados would find this to be a great album. Recorded in Chicago and Minneapolis during Steve Howe's tour of the same name, PULLING STRINGS is like NOT NECESSARILY ACOUSTIC, PART II, and therefore a must-have for any Howe/Yes fan. Here, Steve thrills with acoustic interpretations of Gates of Delerium and Close to the Edge on his trusty Martin guitar. He teases the crowd by quoting every song from GOING FOR THE ONE before launching into the poignant nylon-stringed sentimentality of Turn of the Century. Steve also revisits some of his best bits from BEGINNINGS and THE STEVE HOWE ALBUM, including Diary of a Man Who Vanished and Pleasure Stole the Night. His spin on Mason Williams' Classical Gas is simply fantastic. The finale, My White Bicycle, is a rare cut from Steve's early days with Tomorrow. You won't find this track anywhere else, really, save for Steve's MOTHBALLS disc.
Yes fans already know that Steve's voice isn't that great--but one doesn't listen to Yes or Howe for his singing abilities. His fretboard virtuosity is stunning and clean, and the few tunes which feature vocals aren't any worse off for it.
You should just order the album now and put it on heavy rotation in your CD player, along with NOT NECESSARILY ACOUSTIC. Both discs evidence that the multi-talented, genre-jumping Howe is amongst the best (if not THE best) living guitarists on this planet.
Wish I had seen the live show too!.......1999-07-08
If you like the music of Yes, the Clap and Mood for a Day in particular, you will like this CD. I am a Yes fan and after listening to this CD, I had to play it again to be sure what I heard was really as good as I thought it was. Excerpts from Close to the Edge and the Gates of Delerium were excellent guitar pieces. Mr. Howe's guitar prowess is evident in this Cd and if you are a guitarist and fan of Yes, you should love this CD.
Excellent follow-up to "Not Necessarily Acoustic".......1999-06-27
Steve Howe spent two years in the early/mid 90's touring as a solo act. The "Not Necessarily Acoustic" CD was a snapshot of the first tour and "Pulling Strings" documents what went on in the second tour. The first album was universally hailed as a "must" for any guitar player. This album just echoes those feelings. The songs were taken from performances in Chicago & Minneapolis, and are flawless. In the liner notes, Steve gives "Special thanks to everyone who came to the 'Pulling Strings' and 'Not Necessarily Acoustic' tour dates, 1993-1995". My response is "YOU'RE WELCOME, STEVE! and Thank you for allowing those of us who attended to see a guitar legend up close and personal.

Underrated Progressive Gem.......2003-04-11
Grace is a very talented progressive rock band from England. Though they are labelled as neo, their sound is quite unique and original. This is their second Cyclops release, with a more mature sound and tighter production. While their first had celtic influences and although great, was at times uneven, Pulling Strings and Shiny Things is a masterpiece.
The tracks are short, but full of surprises, very melodic, with clever time changes, and excellent musicianship throughout.
What pleased me so much about this CD, is the fact that music has an equal place as singing in all the tracks, as opposed to the sometimes annoying lead vocalist singing over most of the solos, in many neo prog bands.
...
I highly recommend this CD to be in your collection whether you are a neo or symphonic prog fan, for it offers the listener a rewarding combination of good lyrics, and excellent song writing that stays with you for a long time, from a highly talented and underrated band.
Pretty Good Prog.......2001-11-19
I was pleasantly surprised by this release from Grace. While firmly planted in 80's neo-prog, Grace manages to avoid the pitfalls of sounding too much like other bands. The first two tracks really take off, great vocals and the band knows how to play. While there are some obvious Marillion/Genesis influences I thinks Grace hold their own in the prog world. This is arguably their best release.

Good but not as good as Their EP.......2004-02-06
When I first heard their EP I loved it...but then when I listened to this CD it seemed to be lacking something. It didn't hit me as hard. There were some songs that are memorable but over all I thought that they were going soft on me (compared to their ep)
This cd actually took awhile to grow on me... I like it alot better now then whenI first heard it. I still don't think its the best but now I can't say its that bad. My favorite songs are The Attack, This means war and takeup your cross. If you're used to the EP deal this album might take awhile to grow on you but once it has I'm sure you'll like it alot...just not as much as previous stuff :P
Cutthroat is sounding 5 times better then both cds combined...so hopefully it pulls through
Really good.........2004-01-17
I don't usually like what today's punk bands put out, it's all out of the same mold and pretty predictible. However The Deal are a breath of fresh air! This album is really good: They go back to the street roots of punk and bring great tracks full of sing-along. Get this now!
Another solid release from Facedown!.......2003-11-04
Saw the Deal live with The Culprits. Love the deal, and but the culprits (in my humble oppinion) were better. The Deal is a street punk band with some oi! This should please you street punks out there. Love these guys. Everything from Revolt to War brigade is just amazing. Loved every track. Definately for fans of Rancid, One 21, The Hanover Saints, Shop 11 Pheonix, and The Havoc. Check em out already.
Oi Oi Oi The Deal Rocks.......2002-02-28
This Band is The Deal I mean that in the fact that they are one best up and comming bands on Facedown Records they Mix Streetpunk Oi and Rock And Roll to make a sound like Nothing I've ever Heard this CD Rocks more so than their EP (Yesterday,Today and Forever) if you like One 21,Rancid,Anti-Heros and Officer Negative Check this CD Out
