Album Description

presenting raging tunes of a brutal blended sound featuring reckless metal marks and punk rock-inspired strains, evergreen terrace delivers their own particular melodic vision of hardcore. only months after forming, the band released its first demo ep, broken, giving them considerable notice within the acksonville local music scene. during the following year, et independently issued another ep, a split disc with cordelle, before embarking on their first u.s. tour. in 2001, the band again entered the recording studio, delivering losing all hope is freedom, their debut full length album. the follow-up, burned alive by time, appeared late the next year before a spring 2003 split with xone fif was issued. the covers album writer's block surfaced in early 2004, which featured evergreen tackling songs by a range of bands, including operation ivy, tears for fears, u2, and smashing pumpkins. early demos and random live cuts were compiled that same year for at our worst. their next proper full-length, the screamo-tinged sincerity is an easy disguise in this business, was released in june 2005. Sincerity... would prove to be et's break out release more than doubling the sales of the band's prior works. summer 2006 was spent on the sounds of the underground tour alongside heavy-hitters like as i lay dying, in flames, cannibal corpse, trivium and the black dahlia murder, and before hooking up with throwdown and zao that fall. all of this activity paid off by early 2007 in the form of a deal with metal blade.

5 out of 5 stars Wow. Definitely shows how much they've grown........2007-07-27

This album really shows what Evergreen Terrace is capable of. In my opinion, Sincerity... was a disappointment overall albeit a few notable tracks. This album, however is just awesome. Heavy tracks like "Bad Energy Troll," "Rip This!" and "Rolling Thunder Mental Illness" just get you pumped for a pit, while songs like "Where There Is Fire We Will Carry Gasoline," "Starter," and "The Damned" leave you with an epic and yet peaceful feeling. I love how ET can effortlessly mix heavy sounds with awe-inspiring melodies that make their songs memorable. Overall, this album is excellent and a must have. Simply awesome.

As someone who works from home, this is a wonderful collection to put on during the day. The beautiful arrangements of some of film's most memorable music is a treat to listen to day in and day out. I was one of those looking for music from the "Cousins" soundtrack. I'm so much happier to have found this CD with more great music than I could've bargained for. I'm very glad to have this in my collection!

3 out of 5 stars More does not necessarily mean better.......2005-09-21

This recording sounds less like the Boston Pops and more like 101 Strings. (That's not a compliment.) In fact, I know there are better performances of each one out there. These are actually all pleasant, familiar pieces which I like. I'm not at all sure they should all be on the same album. If you want background music while you're reading, or making love, this is perfect. If you're driving late at night and trying to stay awake, not so good! In short, the sum is less than the total of its parts. But I'm giving it a 3, because I do like most of the individual pieces, and I never give more than 4.

4 out of 5 stars One of the best of a now tired scene.......2006-08-07

Evergreen terrace are truly good at what they do. While they may sound a lot like countless other bands in this now overbloated scene, just remember, Evergreen terrace were there long before any of the newer bands came out. Evergreen Terrace beautifully mix agression with melody and clean vocals, a lot like all the other bands out there now, but like i said, just remember, Evergreen was one of the first. Check them out if you want to know who helped jump start this scene

4 out of 5 stars I like it.......2006-05-25

I've listened to a lot of different metal bands, and I have to say that while this isn't "groundbreaking" or "new" I like it, and that's all that matters. This is a great hardcore album, I would give it 5 stars but I didn't like all of the songs. I will say, that the album starts off well with "Dogfight" which is easily one of my favorite songs on this album.

If you like hardcore then you will want to pick up this album, if you don't, then you won't.

I would comment on this bands previous albums, but this is their only album I have.

2 out of 5 stars hmmm.......2006-05-11

I enjoyed their previous albums and I was hoping that this one would do the same as well. But I guess not. I can't believe people are giving them 5 stars. There isn't much of originality here, so today I sold the CD.

The End.

5 out of 5 stars for the fans and the newbies..........2006-04-15

This is their most recent album (there are rumors of them writing another one). Andrew is the screamer and Craig...(not andrew as opposed to the comment below me)...is the softer singer, he sings "the pretty stuff". This release makes me continue to love ET with all my heart. Some will argue that Burned Alive By Time is much better than this one...but i say you pick up both copies and see for yourself. This band has such
talent and it's an easy listen for hardcore kids.

4 out of 5 stars this is good.......2005-12-24

Evergreen Terrace is a good band...i got into them by a friend, and i thought they were pretty awesome...Burned Alive by Time is a good CD, alittle bit better than this..this CD is good..."Dog Fight" "New Friend Request" and "I Say You He Dead" are my favorite songs...the lyrics are good, and Andrew can scream..and i think he does the singing...and the singing is good

Album Description

The Echoing Green has spanned several markets during the 7 years that are represented in this collection. The band has built a strong presence in the Christian pop market and has also won fans in the synthpop and electronic music scenes. Their extensive national touring has earned them a well respected spot in the pop music world and this double CD represents some of their brightest moments, featuring their fans' favorite songs. There are also many new, exclusive remixes available only in this collection, plus plenty of rarities-- but even the most popular songs by The Echoing Green are often rarities as their early albums went out of print so quickly and became collectors' items. If you wonder what this band is all about, this 2CD it the perfect way to explore, and you'll most likely leave the experience wondering why all your friends haven't heard of The Echoing Green.

5 out of 5 stars Re-releases for the interested, remixes for the fans........2006-02-20

The first disc in this 2-disc set is full of music from previous Echoing Green releases. From the early "Defend Your Joy" title track from the first album, to "Thief" from the synthpop success _Supernova_, Joey B. and his supporting musicians made Christian Synthpop happen. For those fans who already have collected those previous albums, you're not left out! The second disc has remixes of these and other songs. Some were remixed by Joey himself, but there are also mixes from Echo Image, Run Level Zero, Dreamtraveller, Jerome Fontamillas, The Nine, and Anything Box. The genres range from the energetic "Heart with a View" remix to the playful "Science Fiction" mix, to some Drum 'n Bass sounds, and a little Dark Trance sound. Don't miss the acoustic Chamber Mix of "Aurora" for a remix going the other way!

Postscript: If the remixes are your cup of tea, an EG album follow-up to this is _The_Evergreen_Annex_ with 8 more remixes.

5 out of 5 stars Start with this one if you don't know The Echoing Green.......2004-11-07

This one was my first EG cd from this you can explore the eg music and I'am sure that you will get an idea how this group make music. buy it and enjoy great music.

5 out of 5 stars Great Album To Start With.......2003-07-26

Even if you're not a fan this is an excellent album. All of these songs are upbeat synthpop. This greatest hots album is the only Echoing Green album I own right now and I bought it without knowing much about the band but I have loved it and am looking to get more. All of the songs are synthpop but not too heavy on the synthesizers. If you don't know anything about this band this is the album to go to first. The remixes on the CD range from good to decent but I would suggest looking at that as an extra and buy this album for the singles, unless you're a fan and you already have most or all of the disc 1 tracks, then disc 2 would be a good investment.

5 out of 5 stars Utterly amazing. . ........2003-05-02

Long-time fans of the Echoing Green won't be too wowed by the first CD in this collection. While I question the selection (where's "Son in My Eyes"!?), it contains most of their best tracks. It is a great introduction to Echoing Green to any new listeners.

The second disc is a goldmine of remixes. The style is more "dancey" than the original songs were, but it's all done very well. Anyone who's into electronica, synthpop, or house music should definitely check this out. It ought to amaze both new and old fans alike. And when I say "amaze", I mean that you will want to listen through the entire CD in one sitting just to soak up all the music.

Are you a fan of EG? Buy this album.
Have you heard just one of their tracks before? Interested in hearing more? Buy this album.
Are you interested in electronic or house music? Buy this album.
Are you human? Buy this album!

5 out of 5 stars The very best of The Echoing Green 1994-2000.......2003-04-28

You definitely don't want to miss out on this one! 2 CDs chock-full of pure synth goodness that makes you want to get up and dance, turn up the bass to full when riding in your car...you get the general idea. Disc 1 contains 17 smokin' originals, and Disc 2 has some hard-hitting remixes that will please any dance/techno/electro/synth crowd. (Be sure to also get the Evergreen Annex CD for even more remixes!) Rock-solid all the way, this signifies the band's efforts for 6 years straight but still tEG goes strong. A must-have for any synth collection!

5 out of 5 stars A Covers Album Worth Listening To? HELL YEAH!!.......2006-08-08

Evergreen terrace has always been one of my favorite bands. They are one of the few in the hardcore/metalcore scene today who have found a way to make the genre their own. And with "Writer's Block," they have created a cover's album worth listening to.
Eevry song covered on here is a winner. They have found interesting ways to create popular songs, especially on U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday," and Offspring's "The Kid's Aren't Alright". And the hidden track, a meddley of Poison's "Every Rose Has A Thorn" and the Spongbob Square Pants Theme is completely hillarious.

5 out of 5 stars it's pretty darn good........2006-04-15

Evergreen Terrace found such a creative way to cover some great songs. I think this album is amazing. If you truly love hardcore you will enjoy the music that has been recreated. Wether it's a depeche mode cover, or a U2 cover. But, do not take this album seriously as to their musical abilities. This was just a quick release for fans to eat up while they worked on their new album....

5 out of 5 stars What's wrong with this album? Nothing.......2005-07-15

Nothing beats their cover of sunday bloody sunday", it's just plain amazing. anybody that disses this album doesn't know what great hardcore is.

3 out of 5 stars Kind of a let down.......2005-07-05

I love Evergreen Terrace with all of my HXC heart, but this album wasnt as good as i wanted it to be. ET is one of my favorite bands of all time, but i like their originals alot better than their covers. However dont be discouraged from buying it if you are really having an ET craving. A couple of the covers are really good. Maybe im just hating on it because im not a big fan of the originals. Anyway, go pick up 'Burned Alive by Time' if you havent, and if you have, maybe check out these covers on the album:

"Zero"
"Mad World" (My Favorite)
"Maniac"
"Brave Reality"
"The Kids arent alright"

1 out of 5 stars You suck!.......2005-06-13

Some of these song were good before ET put their no-talent hands all over them. Anyone who is pretending to like this should come to terms with how unbelievabley terrible it is. This band should stick to ruining their own songs.
The one star is for actually making the offspring sound better by comparison. Way to go.

With his taffy voice, lissome melodies, lyrical wisdom, and lively wordplay, Steve Forbert has never sounded more candid and confident than on his ninth studio album. As if soaking up all the Memphis vibes of the legendary Ardent studios where it was recorded, Evergreen Boy is also the most sonically satisfying record of his career. Jim Dickinson (who produced Big Star's classic Sister Lovers and played on landmark albums by Aretha Franklin and the Rolling Stones) reconciles Forbert's rock and folk sensibilities while introducing a knock-out dose of deep soul with sanctified organ lines and understated horn charts. Lyrically, Forbert continues to combine melancholy restlessness with a sure faith in human character. "I went down through a dark ordeal," Forbert broods, only to feel "a breeze from the springtime heather / And as it breathed on me / I could feel how my heart could heal." Like John Prine and Greg Brown, Forbert remains a great comic voice, not because he's clever, but through finding a fresher joy by never shrinking from heartache and doubt. --Roy Kasten

5 out of 5 stars Marching To The Beat of His Own Drum.......2001-05-23

Hello out there in cyberspace. One expects a review of this new CD by Steve Forbert to be read mostly by his fans, so I suppose I am "preaching to the choir".

This new collection of songs are infused with lots of the wisdom, weariness, and observations of the irony found in everyday life, typical of Mr. Forbert. Noticeably absent are the Steve Fobert tunes that cook. Instead these tunes simmer. Some of the words get blurred in the background. The songs come from the heart, and they gently bemoan the spiritual dearth in America. "The kind of car you drive, won't keep your love alive" laments Mr. Forbert in one song.

Hello out there in cyberspace....if you have not heard of Steve Forbert, and are not really aware of his stuff, you owe it to yourself to discover one of America's best modern story telling/ song writers. This CD is a great place to start !

5 out of 5 stars enduring.......2000-08-01

...oops, brainlock in my previous review. I meant to list Evergreen Boy on a par with The American In Me, Streets of This Town, Jackrabbit Slim and Alive on Arrival, not the self-titled record which I consider to be his least listenable.

4 out of 5 stars A Quality Release, but Too One Dimensional.......2000-05-24

Evergreen Boy is yet another quality release from America's most talented, yet overlooked, folk-country-rock artist of the past twenty years. The combination of songwriting, guitar playing, harmonica, and vocals is truly extraordinary. I would encourage anyone interested in the folk-rock genre to give Steve Forbert a listen, and Evergreen Boy is as good a place to start as anywhere (although I highly recommend The American in Me, Streets of this Town, and Rocking Horse Head).

With that said, I do have some minor criticisms of Evergreen Boy. First, while several cuts are as good as anything he has done ("Something's Got a Hold on Me," "Strange," "Rose Marie"), others grow tiresome with play ("Winter Song," "Breaking Through," "Trusting Old Soul"), and the song "It Doesn't Matter Much," while catchy, is a bit trite. Second, in contrast to Forbert's previous releases, I find Evergreen Boy a bit too subdued (melancholy?) for my taste. Perhaps like the calming effect of a good brandy on occasion, but too uniform nonetheless. What I have enjoyed most about Forbert's past releases is the mixture of insightful songs of introspection with "lightning-in-his-bones" rock n' roll. Evergreen Boy delivers on the former, but is devoid of the latter. Perhaps Forbert is simply in a subdued mood these days. Finally, I CAN BARELY HEAR FORBERT'S ACOUSTIC GUITAR OVER THE POUNDING DRUMS & BASS!!

All in all, a quality release, if not a bit one dimensional.

5 out of 5 stars His Best Work In Years.......2000-03-13

Being mildly disappointed with the last few Forbert releases I was somewhat apprehensive about his latest outing. There were moments of brilliance in the last few years-- "It Is What It Is" and "Trouble With Angels"among others... but the rest of his recordings were sometimes overproduced and not always strong from start to finish. Having said that "Evergreen Boy" is Forberts best work in years...maybe ever. Although the production is simple, the stories and feeling incorporated in them are not. From the opening track the recording demands your attention and keeps it on your journey through the 13 songs. "Strange," a song about best friends seperated by their own stubborness is my personal favorite. The CD flows wonderfully and is one of those rare recordings that doesn't get tiring. As mentioned below Forbert is now an artist years removed from radio..and its a shame. His style and lyrics include an honesty and feeling rarely found these days.

2 out of 5 stars a seamless album.......2000-03-12

I managed to buy this Cd on it's first day of UK release and how pleased I am. It's a great record-in my opinion his most consistent since American in Me. Each track seems to segue beautifully into the next and some of the songs are absolute classics-Rosemarie,Late Winter Song just two of many.If you buy Evergreen Boy I'm sure you will not be disappointed!

5 out of 5 stars Don't let it get you down.......2005-11-29

Like many of the other reviewers, I was a fan of this band back when they put out the Picture on My Wall single (the one with Echo the Drum Machine!) Their first four records are amazing slabs of swirling psycedelia, orchestral grandeur, and lyrical obsessiveness. Much to my surprise, though, Evergreen has turned out to be one of my favorite Echo CDs, and has been in pretty constant rotation on my CD player for at least a couple of years now. Pete DeFreitas' precise skin beating is definitely missed on this outing, the emotional directness of these songs win me over every time. Ian McCulloch's voice is more of a croon nowadays, which really suits the autumnal quality of the recording. The first four cuts in particular (Don't Let it Get You Done, In My Time, I want to Be There, Evergreen) are among the best they've ever recorded. For some reason, Evergreen has fallen through the cracks and appears to have gone out of print. A pity. This is beautiful, compelling music.

5 out of 5 stars And I thought the Bunnymen were deciduous!.......2005-06-19

Having given up on the Bunnymen after (perhaps upon release of) what the band now refers to as the "Grey album," I had only recently become curious as to what the new line of albums might have to offer. I was a bit more than skeptical, having been such a big fan of the music from the "Heaven Up Here"/"Porcupine" era. I picked up a used copy of "What Are You Going To Do..." about a year and a half ago, and listened with an intentionally open mind. It's been many years after all. Wow. I was actually impressed. This is not the Bunnymen of the 80's, no doubt. But, the emotion and quality of simple songwriting was undeniably solid. After a couple of weeks of occasional listening I was surprised by how much this album took hold of me.

I purposefully put off buying another "new era" Bunnymen release in order to "cleanse the palette." I decided to purchase "Evergreen," and again tried to remain open minded about where the Bunnymen might have been coming from in 1997. In all honesty I was expecting to be disappointed (as I was with WAYGTDWYL), but once again I was very much taken with this album. While there should be no doubt that the Bunnymen are a very different band than they were years before, this more reflective, sedate Bunnymen was still entirely capable of producing meaningful, soulful, and yes, rockin' tunes. Like many others, I would like to see a bit more "noise" from Will, and perhaps more "funk" from Les, but on the whole the transformation/maturation of this legendary band makes a lot of sense to me. There is no escaping growing older, and the way in which the Bunnymen reflect their maturity in no way denies the past and at the same time readily embraces the present/future in the form of beautiful composition, deliberate intention, and a general lack of concern for fulfilling others expectations.

I rarely consider an album worthy of 5 stars, but given the pressure of unrealistic expectations these guys must have faced in making this album I feel obligated.

1 out of 5 stars Pete DeFretais Is dead.......2003-12-09

How can you write a review and not know who is in this band?
Pete DeFretais is dead he died right after they broke up the first time..................................

4 out of 5 stars they aged, get over it.......2003-11-01

It's amazing how many people refuse to let these guys grow up. They are contemplative adults now--deal with it. It's an amazing album. Yes it is different; listen to Ocean Rain if you want to hear Ocean Rain. This is different-- slower, but still passionate and beautiful.

      4 out of 5 stars It's not Ocean Rain but it's a good album.......2003-04-15

First of all, Ocean Rain is a great album and this is not the same. It is not as dark and moody. It is mellow pop.

That said, one of my favorites is Just A Touch Away, which was haunting (and yes, mellow.) It had the same romantic touch to the lyrics, though not as edgy. Forgiven was a beautiful live song and the album version is still a great listen.

The bottom line is this -- if you want Echo and the Bunnymen in their witty, edgy and yet romantic Ocean Rain era, this album is not going to deliver it to you. But on its own, I think the album stands up.
