Album Description

Returning to Jeree Records in New Brighton, PA, where Price made his first recording with the Keystone Rhythm Band ("Is It Over"), Billy Price and co-producers Don Garvin and H.B. Bennett resurrect the spirit and feel of the southern soul music that came out of Memphis, Muscle Shoals, and Nashville in the 1960s and 1970s. The CD includes background vocals by Chicago veterans Dianne Madison (currently singing with Aretha Franklin), Theresa Davis (former member of The Emotions), and Robin Robinson, as well as a cameo appearance by Price's friend and mentor Otis Clay on Clay's "That's How It Is."

Though it is clearly labeled as a tribute to some of the second line soul singers that never made it past the likes of Aretha Franklin and Sam Cooke, "The Soul Collection" takes all that is soulful about artists such as Otis Clay, Syl Johnson, Frederick Knight, Eddie Hinton and Latimore, but is executed with Billy's identifiable style. Backed by the Billy Price Band, the disc is guaranteed to get you up and moving. If you're listening to track 12, "Let Yourself Go" and you are still sitting, check your pulse cause you just might be dead!

I think she has a fine voice but I don't like the synthy, 80s style of this CD. I liked the more country stuff and this soul album is well, overproduced. Lari White is a talented singer/songwriter and I purchased Lead Me Not in both cassette and Cd.

Loved It!.......2005-11-05

As a long time fan of Lari White's music, I was pleasantly surprised when I heard the first track from this cd. I think it's great. I enjoyed every song. I was glad to see a female country singer step out and do something R&B-ish rather than a more pop sound. I am a country music fan but I also love bluesy soul/R&B stuff. Get the CD, grab a glass of your favorite beverage, light some candles and soak in a bubble bath while you "soak in" Green Eyed Soul. Ummmmm

A Treasure on My Shelf!.......2005-05-31

I bought "New Green" about 12 years ago when I was scoring a video project in LA. I was looking for some styles to discuss with the MD and picked up this CD, surprised to find Dan Hartman in the New Age section! I was blown away then, but forgot about this CD until a few weeks ago. I happened to pull it out again, and I have to say that I'm blow away all over again! The beauty and subtleness of Mr. Hartman's music is healing and relaxing. That it was recorded over 15 years ago is, in itself, makes the music even more interesting. I've played this CD for a number of friends who have also enjoyed it very much. This was a real treasure sitting right there on my bookshelf!

Not Your Typical Dan Hartman.......2003-05-04

Anyone looking for Dan Hartman's style of music will not find it here. This is a beautiful cd of new age music that is very much like Brian Eno and Harold Budd. It takes a few listens, but after that you will find it hard to not play, as it really is one of the most soothing pieces of music I have ever heard. It is very rare so grab it when you can if you want to wind down after a hard day at work.

Presenting...Miss Sarah Connor.......2006-05-23

Back in 2000 the world was at the height of the pop phemonena: Christina had debuted, Britney had debuted...finally it was time for this Sarah to debut.

American's wouldnt know her tell 2004 (and even then you probably still dont know who she is) but this was the year and the CD that made her a star in her home country of Germany. Sarah is what you call 'Blue Eyed Soul'. Her voice is very similiar in strength and range to Mariah and Christina. Her songs follow the same pop'nb (pop mixed with rnb) method as many of there's as well. She would become the biggest German female artist and evolve quite a bit over the next 6 years...but for now she was pure pop with a hint of rnb.

Green Eyed Soul kicks off with one of Sarah's first singles the upbeat and catchy 'Lets get back to bed boy'. This single sets the tone of the whole album: sexy yet fun while being classy not trashy (so no chaps like Christina in her Dirty phase.)

Green Eyed Soul gets poppier with 'If U were my man' and goes deeply sensual with the 'No Diggist' sampling 'French Kissin' (also a very successful single). 'Magic Ride' and 'Make U High' take you back to the good ol pop. 'From Sarah with love' is the first ballad...it was the single that launched Sarah's fame and shows off her vocals beautifully.

'In my house', 'Where do we go from here' rnb it up while 'I cant lie', 'Every little thing', 'Undressed', 'Cant get none', and 'Man of my dreams' pop it back up. 'Let us come together' sounds like 'Lets get back to bed boy part 2' but it is a different and neat song. 'When I dream' finishes the CD in a light but beautiful way that leaves you wanting more.

Overall Green Eyed Soul is one of Sarah's best CD's (though she doesnt really have a bad CD). If your looking for a good rnb track check out 'Lets get back to bed boy' and 'French Kissin'. If your looking for a good ballad check out 'From Sarah with love'. And if your looking for some good pop check out 'If U were my man' and 'Undressed'.

This album is amazing, it's a shame it wasn't released on the US as other of her releases, I remember when I first saw "Let's get back to bed-boy!", I was hit and I just though "I have to buy that CD", the song features American rapper TQ and it's amazing, Both artists are cute, the song is one of the best that I've listened to my life.
It seems that she was a die-hard fan of Mariah Carey and Toni Braxton, the song "From Sarah with love" says it all. It sounds like "Un-break my heart" and "My all" together, the rest of the album, mixes these styles.

This is her first and maybe best of her three albums(Her fourth "Naughty But Nice" is just as good as this one).

Debut of Germany's new female star.......2003-12-30

Who is this gal? Sarah made the waves in her native Germany with a beautiful ballad, "From Sarah With Love", in late 2001. Parallel to this (I'm unsure which single was first) "Let's Go Back to Bed Boy" was a major chart buster for the discotheques. Within weeks the singer was literally everywhere, in TV talk shows, a far-reaching tour through Germany and other European countries. Without a doubt, Sarah is currently (as of 2003) Germany's most competitive internationally-oriented music act, whereas her debut "Green Eyed Soul" is the perfect proof that this singer is not just a flash in the pan (as her sudden international affairs also proved). This release not only contains these two mentioned singles, but a string of modern danceable pop music, which I'd rate high (but probably not highest). Four stars appear appropriate to me.

Nothing Disappointing.......2005-01-13

I don't know what CD "A music fan (Bowie,Maryland)" was listening to, but it couldn't be "Can I Change My Mind". This is tight!

As a displaced Pittsburgh native, I had heard of but never actually heard any of Billy Price's CD's or shows.

I first heard Billy Price as the opening act for Joe Gruschecky (at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame), and immediately went out and bought this CD. There is nothing disappointing about this CD!!!!

This is Rhythm and Blues exactly as it should be played.

Disappointed Purchaser.......2002-07-13

I bought this cd with great anticipation as I have been a loyal fan of Billy Price's live performances for many years - 20 years or so. However, this cd in no way compares to his early works and as a point of fact, probably is one of the worst bands I have ever heard recorded. The drummer lacks any imagination, doesn't listen, and does not reflect the rest of the band that is playing. The lead guitar work adds nothing and a Blues band without a solid lead guitar has an empty sound. Most dissapointing was the song structure, with a lack of any musical intro to bring force and excitement to the songs.

This cd is a major dissapointment. The band is plain weak.

I own all the Billy Price albums...all worth a listen and your money BUT lately I have been yearning for a new CD and wham! "Can I Change My Mind" appears. All the other reviewers know the miniscule stuff....the band members, the Swamp Dogg stuff, the recording hoopla etc,

Me....... I know the Blues when I hear it and this is the "real merchandise." The first number "Crack,Crack" is pure BP, a bouncy upbeat tempo number but it doesn't set the stage for the incredible slower ballads that follow.

When the music starts for what has to be the best cut on this album, you will wear this track out. "What is love" is Billy's tribute to Harold Melvin and the Blue notes or the Spinners, perhaps other R & B artists of the 60's & 70's. Damn!, what a song, what a singer, what an arrangement.I walk around all day singin' this one, over & over! When he delivers "AND WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU DESERVE SOME," I am in SOUL HEAVEN AND YOU WILL BE TOO. This song is destined to be the title cut on some Hollywood movie! Don't miss out on this opportunity to hear one of the great soul artists of the East coast. And by the way......you could also try his earlier CD's which are superb! "Live" and the "Free at Last" album are pure soul magic with remembrances of Jackie Wilson, Solomon Burke, Otis Clay, Arthur Alexander all around you His earlier band, Pennsylvania's "Keystone Rhythm Band" knows how to cook......hot and full of horns. Introduce yourself to this master of the R & B sound.....you're gonna thank me. Everyone else I've turned on to Billy has thanked me again and again. Free at Last.......2000-01-27

Talent like this doesn't come along very often. Billy Price is an excellent performer and very versital with his music. Most performers' music sounds the same; not the case with Billy Price. I've seen him perform live in Pittsburgh, PA. I now live in Hampton, VA and would love to see him again. Hopefully, he'll come and perform nearby

Soul hasn't sounded this good since the 70's at Hi Records.......2000-01-16

Not since the "Trying to Live My Life Without You" album by Otis Clay was released in April of 1972 has soul sounded this good! Billy Price, with the help of multi-talented Swamp Dogg, has produced a disc that sounds like it was produced in the early 70's at one of the many small recording studio's "down south". Tight arrangements executed by a fat horn section and a solid rhythm section that knows how to establish the groove, and stick to it. The study of artists such as Otis Clay, Syl Johnson, O.V. Wright and Tyrone Davis are apparent, but Price sings every song as his own, including the title track. Some (of many) highlights include the tasteful guitar playing of Landis Armstrong (including a Flamenco guitar break in the middle of track 7), the growling sax solos of Jerry Peterson, and the gospel-tinged piano of Edell Shepherd on the title track. Fans should check out Price's other discs, which can be ordered through his website.

Lots of Love and Soul.......2005-04-30

This CD from Lari is a departure from her country music works -- although her song "Lead Me Not into Temptation (I can find it by myself)" from an earlier album hints at what is on this one. It's filled with songs of powerful love and desire. The vocals reflect her range and her musical style -- she's singing what she loves. It's a good groove, get the wine and candles out, put the kids to bed, find your sweetie kind of album. I highly recommend it.
