About the Artist
RED DOGG BIO OVERVIEW
AGE: 27
PERSONALITY: Cooperative Dependable a Straight forth person
Rap style: Universal storyteller with a distinctive voice

Reginald Tyrone Allen was born and raised in Orlando, Fla. September 14, 1974, second to the youngest of four children two brothers and one sister. A rough low poverty environment was Reginald's surroundings. With the strength from and the belief in God, Reginald was able to overcome the consequences of the street life (Death or Life in prison). Negativity wasn't Reggie's only surrounding. Music not only influenced him, it ran through his body like blood. Subliminal Influences from his mother who has a beautiful voice and registered Reggie in the church choir, music in general begin to become a fascination to Reggie. As Reginald grew older he began listening to rap artist like Scarface, UGK, and Too Short, who's music and styles began to inspire and fuel his desire to not only become apart of the rap scene, but also to help to put Orlando on the map. Listening to Scarface's unique ability to tell his life story in lyrical rymes generated a spark for Reginald to start writing lyrics about his own life experiences. Soon Reggie began to inquire about producing tracks. Using his hard earned money, he saved enough to buy his first keyboard and soon after he not only mastered beat making, he was then able to produce his own tracks. A short time after that he met with the C.E.O. of Mo'Muzik Ent. and Jon took a liking to his personality and voice as an artist. Reggie soon became a member of the hottest group in Orlando the Killa Gorillas. Performing as a Killa Gorilla opened the doors for Reggie to perform with icons in the music industry such as Ludacris, Mystical, Juvenile, Trick daddy, Trina, Pastor Troy, and many more. Through Reggie's hard work and dedication, landed him to be the first artist from Mo'Muzik Ent. to release a solo Album. Mo'Muzik Ent. appreciates your interest in Red Dogg. We look forward to meeting with you in the future.

Sincerely, C.E.O.
Jonathan Bernard

5 out of 5 stars Respekt.......2007-04-11

Evidently meaning business this album is a serious play for critical acceptance and a shift of intent for the band after their debut. Skid Row was hair meta, albeit excellent hair metal. But Slave to the Grind is just excellent metal and very much in keeping with the bands stated heroes like Judas Priest. Almost every tack here is a winner, the rockers atacking with bite and the ballads "taking you to dark unsettling places where reflection collides with worry" to quote Martin Popoff.

rather than go through a track by track synopsis for this release I'll cherry pick a few tracks and discuss them.

Monkey business - Excellent metal, excellent. From a brooding intro to a blazing metalfest led by a visceral Bach this is top notch metal no matter what era you grew up in.

Slave to the Grind - Probably the heaviest musical track recorded by Skid Row. Not my cup of tea but certainly a heavy duty attack. Add silly grunt/gargled vocals and you've got a metalcore song!

Quicksand Jesus - One of the three disturbing ballads on display here. Playing this track followed by In A Darkened Room and Wasted Time in an unlit room is something only to be done by experts. Just make sure you don't have any sharp objects close to hand...

Get the **** Out - The only really whimsical track here and a welcome relief. The only track here that could easily be imagined slotting onto the debut. Which makes sense as it was first played live at the Hordern Pavilion, Sydney Australia on the bands tour to promote the debut, so was perhaps the first tune written for this album.

Mudkicker - After Monkey Business this is probably my favourite of the metallic tunes, psychologically driven along a regular theme with the passion of the bands attack.

This album is a classin and the fact that it's not regarded as such appears to be due to the way the band are preceived in hindsight due to their breakup/disintegration. And perhaps because of hte bands image prior to this release. But if your not sure about buying a disc by Skid Row then ditch your worries and pick this up now.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest Album Ever.......2006-10-05

This is quite simply my favorite album of all time.
Bachs voice is extraordinary and he really unleashes his full fury on this album. This ain't "hair-metal", its heavy metal, and if you love heavy metal, then you'll love this album.

4 out of 5 stars Rocks with controlled abandon.......2006-06-29

'Bass as he is known now because of the Super Group TV show on VH 1,is a rock legend, and rightfully so. He has pipes and knows how to use them. This is a classic 80's rock fest with all the power and verve to make you grit your teeth. Production could use a little tweaking, like a lot of the 80's CD's. A little bright, not enough mids. There is a reason that Skid Row still sells. This is good, crafted, and well sung rock. More original sounding than Poison or Warrant. More melodic than Anthrax or Motorhead. Great to play over and over, which I think is what the hair bands gave us. Don't think, just rock. Check out the underated Blue Murder CD made by John Sykes who was the guitarist and side singer for Whitesnake. If you like the 'Row, you will love Blue Murder. Great vocals too!

5 out of 5 stars If this doesn't get you moving, check your pulse..........2006-05-14

Guns n' Roses and Skid Row were by far and away my two favorite bands during the late 80s/early 90s. In truth, Skid was a distant second, but second nontheless. They toured together in the summer of 1992 and I got the chance to see them when they came to my hometown. Wow! What a show. I had their first one and was expecting more "18 and life", and "I remember you" type stuff. "In a Darkened Room", "Quicksand Jesus", and "Wasted Time" are in that same mold. But, the rest of this disc is heavy metal at its absolute finest.

"Monkey Business", "Slave to the Grind", "Living on a Chain Gang", and "Mudkicker" are some of the heaviest and best songs ever recorded. Heavy doesn't always make it good. Hard rocking doesn't always make it heavy. But it all comes together - completely together - on Slave to the Grind. What these guys did on this disc is absolutely amazing. This is no doubt a timeless classic.

5 out of 5 stars Definitely NOT 'WASTED TIME'.......2006-04-27

This is the second Skids album and on tape it was a bit different, there's one song here that I had never heard before (Get The F*** Out). This album is tough, edgy, social and totally reflects the time it was written in (drugs, corporate greed, futility - all that fun stuff). I love most all the songs on this CD but I think my favorites are 1) Psycho Love - a whole lot of fun and strangeness; 2) Creepshow - girl kicks boy in the teeth, is she trying to tell him something?? and 3) Wasted Time - a best friend sinks into the deadliness of drugs while those that love him watch - devastating!

Solid second effort from the guys - can't miss it!

Album Description

Following the subtly modern bent of much of The Cape Verdean Blues, Horace Silver recommitted himself to his trademark "funky jazz" sound on The Jody Grind. Yet he also consciously chose to keep a superbly advanced front line, with players like trumpeter Woody Shaw (retained from the Cape Verdean session), altoist/flutist James Spaulding, and tenor saxophonist Tyrone Washington. Thus, of all Silver's groove-centered records, The Jody Grind winds up as possibly the most challenging. It's also one of the most under appreciated; Silver's piano playing is at its rhythmic best throughout, brimming over with confidence and good cheer, and evoking memories of the classic feel of his early-'60s quintet. His compositions have a similarly bright overtone, which was becoming increasingly rare in mid-'60s jazz as the fury of the avant-garde and the Civil Rights upheaval began to seep into jazz's wider consciousness. The title cut is a playful, overlooked classic on the funky side of hard bop; Silver kicks it with a tasty groove, giving the rest of the musicians plenty to play off of. The whole group absolutely burns through "Grease Piece," a terrific hard swinger full of smoking solo statements from just about everyone on down to drum whiz Roger Humphries. Really, the whole album is packed with great grooves and tight solos, epitomizing the best virtues of Silver's music. The Jody Grind is one of the best Horace Silver records, highly recommended.

Players Include:
Horace Silver - Piano
James Spaulding - Flute, Sax (Alto)
Tyrone Washington - Sax (Tenor)
Larry Ridley - Bass
Woody Shaw - Trumpet

Silver leads a first rate ensemble here and his composition work is excellent.

5 out of 5 stars Grand master of hard bop!.......2002-12-20

Horace Silver is in full flight on the "Jody Grind." He is one of the grand masters of hard bop, and it is little wonder that so much of his music has been used in "acid jazz." Silver has had a very prolific career, starting with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, and evolving into one of the prime figures in jazz. Silver draws from a wide variety of sources, but lurking in the background seems to be his Cape Verdean roots. There is a loose quality to his music that is very appealling, and it is so easy to be drawn into his sinuous sounds.

5 out of 5 stars Silver's Gold.......2001-05-23

This is the HS album I find myself listening to the most. Its funky, infectious groove belies the rhythmic and melodic complexity (par for the Silver course, but even more so on this album). It's both energetic and complex, which explains Silver's success with critics and novice jazz lovers alike. If, like me, you grew up with Charlie Brown specials on TV, and your appreciation of jazz began with the music you heard there (Vince Guaraldi, God rest his soul) then this album will knock you out. It practically defines the "hard bop" sound. Do your soul a favor and get this album.

5 out of 5 stars Sterling Silver.......2000-07-16

Silver's bands, like Art Blakey's, served -- and is still serving -- as one of the great training grounds for young jazz musicians in the '60s. "The Jody Grind" features a youthful Woody Shaw joining his brash trumpet sound with the fiery James Spaulding on alto and flute and the forgotten (unfortunately) Tyrone Washington, who contributes a hard-edged tenor. Silver, as usual, composed all the tunes, and nearly all of them are memorable.

Silver is a master at stripping melodies and rhythms down to their essentials. But that doesn't mean that his tunes are simplistic. For example, the great "Mexican Hat Dance," as the title suggests, cooks up a spicy Latin beat that is very hummable. After you listen to it a few times, though, you realize that the infectious melody is composed of some tricky twists and turns that the horn players negotiate flawlessly.

In fact, Silver makes it look easy on the whole release, effortlessly spinning off melodies and riffs in his soloing and catching you with an irresistible hook on every tune, from the funk of "Grease Piece" to the elegant sophistication of "Blue Silver." Forty minutes go by in a flash.

The entire band responds eloquently under Silver's leadership. In fact, another major strength of the release is the contrast of sounds in the horns. Shaw is hard-edged and fluid on trumpet; Spaulding edgy on alto and mellow on flute; and Washington digs deeply into the hard bop bag with a soulful tenor.

All of Silver's Blue Note work is worth owning, but "The Jody Grind," for my money, represents one of his most consistent and satisfying efforts. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Last one from a great era.......2000-01-17

John Fordham's review above really doesn't do justice to this recording. The classic Silver quintet sound is there, Van Gelder got one of the best drum sounds ever on this session, it's an early recording by the late trumpeter Woody Shaw, and half of the tracks add a third sax/flute from Jimmy Spaulding, who gives HS a chance to write richer front-line harmonies. There's no "Sister Sadie" here, but there's enduring enjoyment instead -- I wore out my original LP copy. With his next albums, HS began moving away from the tight group sound which served him so well in the 50s and 60s, so this one is really the last of its kind.

5 out of 5 stars EDITED VERSION" IS JUST WHAT SOME FANS NEEDED.......1999-01-17

Skid Row's "Slave to the Grind" is SKID ROW at their best! The difference between the "E dited Version" and the original version of this album is the song "Beggar's Day" is on th is album instead of "Get the F*** Out". This makes it more palatable to parents who obje ct to "Parental Advisory, Explicit Lyrics" labels. It might also be the better choice if you are offended by the "F" word (although I doubt that is a big issue among Skid Row fa ns). "Beggar's Day" is more of a tongue in cheek song. "Get the F*** Out" is more of a groupie bashing song (in the "Slave to the Grind" version anyway). On this album the ban d was clearly working together as a unit, and the styles of the various songs are diverse as the personalities that formed this incredible band. Sebastian Bach once again used h is impressive voice to deliver the goods. Overall, the sound on this album is more aggre ssive than SKID ROW'S first effort. At times the lyrics seemed to focus more on negativit y than rebel! ! lion. Still, overall, the album deserves a place in every collection. I know it will al ways be high on the "play list" in my own collection. Any fan of Sebastian Bach's vocals will especially appreciate this album since now they can listen to his first solo effort "Bring 'Em Bach Alive" and hear him sing five of the songs from this album again, live, and better than ever.

Mississippi label Fat Possum has done much for the fusion of blues and another distinctly African American music, hip-hop, but this project sounds forced and phony. R.L. Burnside's elegant and trippy Wish I Was in Heaven Sitting Down and the compilation New Beats from the Delta both team urban Southern MCs with the label's crusty bluesmen and sound gritty and first-rate. But this meandering, formless sonic splatter painting is terrible, despite its expert cast.

Guitarist Skip McDonald, bassist Doug Wimbish, drummer Keith LeBlanc, and producer Adrian Sherwood are electronica pioneers, the guts of the band Tackhead, and sparkplugs for recordings by Ministry, African Head Charge, and Dub Syndicate. They have a grounding in funk, reggae, and rock that's given their earlier meta-music a human streak. So it's surprising there's almost no soul here. Gliding slide guitars, samples of black voices, and harmonica lines float through the mix, sliding against pumped snare drums, echo-treated cymbals, and programming. At best, in "Run Here Boy" and the rambling narrative "Blues Story II," the CD's nearest stabs at cohesive songs, a simmering, brooding mood rises, but it's broken by intrusions of dub effects, chanting, and glossolalia. What we hear are the signifiers of blues and none of its substance, mated with listless, shambling, ambient grooves. --Ted Drozdowski

What a pleasure to finally find my gutts. This Little Axe has cut through the fiberous transloucent fat of the blues & rock world & has found his way back to the primal red blood of what makes our bodies move. It is obvious that this artist has all the seaoning, the dues have obviously been paid in full. This is a sound that resonates through ones marrow. Axe harbours the ability to not get lost in the dance of media hype & techno fog that clouds the vision of core rocky-blues. You can actually feel your body move, your face grimace without being conscious of it. Man it is just refreshing !
    Enjoy,
    Hawk

5 out of 5 stars Modern Electric Blues & Dub, incorporated to stunning effect.......2003-10-30

Ever wondered where `Moby' got inspiration for his incredibly successful "Play" album???...Looking at this album will throw up some answers to those questions. Legendary producer `Adrian Sherwood', handles the mixing side of things, and the exceptional blues-Guitar playing is courtesy of `Skip McDonald' has understated guitar playing is a revelation in itself...adding much in atmospherics & Mood, throughout the album there is a element of the "Techno Blues" that `Moby' would later go on to reinterpret (although amazing `Little Axe's' album doesn't feature any electronic elements), and it's a carefully considered listening experience, with the mood gradually ensnaring the listener with seductive vocals, smoky Dubbed out Delta Blues, and various echoing reverberated loops & effects to marvellous effect. Although not the eclectic Dance-oriented beast that `Moby's' classic album is, it's Blues-rock influences & Modern Rhythm & Blues are far more pronounced & successfully implemented.

3 out of 5 stars Disappointing But Listenable.......2003-05-24

Lost in this third Little Axe release is the edge that characterized their first, "Wolf that House Built" and the accessibility of the second Little Axe,"Slow Fuse", inexplicably unreleased in the U.S. Instead, as some reviews have noted, there's much meandering and shifting sound textures, interesting if you can pay attention to the subtlties rattling around deep in the mix but very little grit and the sense of the tragic that underlies the best blues surfaces.

The conception behind Little Axe has real potential- an update of the blues preserving some of the original form but not slavishly wedded to traditional structures - but more experimentation and hardness next time would thrust the potential of this groove forward.

Little Axe, IMHO, should have the menace of a roadside juke joint and not the reverential ambiance of a well-behaved country church Sunday afternoon outing.

4 out of 5 stars Almost Welcome Return.......2002-12-02

Little Axe "The house that wolf built" and Sacred Spirit II are two of my most played albums both offering a new direction of the blues which my friends can't believe I love. Little axe's second album (slow fuse) was good but in general lack direction. Hard Grind has elements of 'Wolf' but does not quite measure up. Some of the tracks are brilliant with the most significant tracks being those which a band could translated to non-dub and often involve the harmonica of Alan Glen. The album is still worth the money, but for a blues lover, some tracks head in other directions and two are absolutely infuriating: One 'Tight like that' with (I hope) a pretend preacher's spiel and another with a sendup of the 23rd psalm I could do without.

I don't get the reviews here.

This is brilliant jazz. It's a new sound, coming out of dixieland more than bop. Its statement is darker, smoother, sexier than just about anything else. When the sax and trumpet blow together, watch out. It's music from today's jazz clubs - little places in brooklyn and san francisco - not fossilized Giants.

There's a free track at their home website (a full track, not the amazon little clip). Try it, and if it rings your bell, get the album - it's representative.

    5 out of 5 stars Sex Mob's finest hour........2004-05-16

Steven Bernstein's Sex Mob quartet has become a virtual downtown institution in the last few years. Now maintaining regular gigs at Tonic, they ARE the late night sound of the East Village. An irreverent and raucous blend of 30's style "hot" jazz with a free-jazz bite, Sex Mob has willfully ventured where most jazz groups dare not tread. Covers of everything from the disposable pop of "The Macarena" to John Barry's James Bond theme have shown up in their repertoire. Sex Mob's greatest asset however has been their original tunes. This fourth album is both their first focusing almost entirely on original material and is also their most effectively produced album to date.

While overproduction can be the kiss of death for most artists, here the collaboration is a revelation. Scotty Hard (Wu-Tang Clan, Medeski, Martin and Wood) is behind the board this time and finally their live sound has been captured in the studio. Granted, there are electronic enhancements that one might not expect from an acoustic quartet, but what Hard does best here is exploit their deep primal groove.

Sonically, the production of Dime Grind Palace is more reminiscent of a rock album than your average jazz recording. Phat beats, dub ambience, effects laden horn solos and brief musical interludes all add up to a more "concept" album oriented approach than most jazz artists explore on their studio recordings. In a perfect world, the term cross-over would not be regarded with suspicion, in this fantasy world Sex Mob reigns as party band supreme.

Where previous releases have found the band more dissonant and contentious, here they ease into strong melodic blues grooves while keeping up the same unflagging intensity in their solos. The tuneful context accents their biting solo statements to remarkable effect. Leader Steven Bernstein's patented slide trumpet slurs along, sometimes digitally enhanced, sometimes not, but always grabbing your ear. Alto sax shredder Briggan Krauss has never sounded as intense as he does here, with his signature sound the "sour" contrast to the "sweet" of the main melodies. Drummer Kenny Wollesen and bassist Tony Scherr have finally found a sound environment that reveals the depth of their co-operative groove. Scotty Hard's production accentuates the strengths of the group rather than obscuring them with un-necessary effects and production tricks, here he's practically a fifth member.

Over a half dozen guest musicians drop by to lend their talents on various numbers. Most notable among them however, is Roswell Rudd. The trombonist, who's career dates back to the early 1960s, was Bernstein's first inspiration for Sex Mob's sound. Having made a quantum leap from Dixieland straight to Free-Jazz back in the day playing with Steve Lacy and Cecil Taylor, Rudd is the lineage Bernstein wanted to bring Sex Mob's tradition full circle. So it could be no more fitting than to have them together on this disc. As such Bernstein has proclaimed this his "dream album", and it is Sex Mob's finest hour, without a doubt.

5 out of 5 stars Funky, fun, and avant-garde.......2003-11-24

This is my first Sex Mob cd, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I think Dime Grind Palace is brilliant. It does everything avant-garde music should, in my opinion, do. Rather than merely break the rules, the band reinvents them. The music also blurs the line between the spontaneous and the carefully planned. Most importantly, it's a lotta fun!!

Stanley Crouch probably put his fist through a wall when he heard this album, but any listener with an open mind should pick this one up.

2 out of 5 stars I'm tempted to give this one another shot . . ........2003-10-11

. . . because it may well be that I'm misjudging these guys. But I don't think so, so I'm not.

I'm a little surprised I dislike this as much as I do. After all, I've greatly admired these players' work in other settings. I freely admit that I can't get on board with the vibe here. It's deconstructionist, but (to me, at least) in a snide, not a playful way--smug, not whimsical. Take the liner notes, for example. Meant, I'm sure, to be humorous, and written by an authentically weird person, Hal Wilner, in a faux-naïve style, they are a sad example of failed hipness. Or take the tune "Norbert's Weiner" (why the misspelling of his name, which [intentionally?--to what purpose?] spoils the pun) and its commentary: "An anthem to the man who ran with the concept of human protuberance from advanced prosthetics to outer space and most recently to cyberspace [hardly possible since Wiener died in 1964]. This latter achievement has revolutionized our present civilization. Hopefully, the colossal resonances of this song serve as a fitting tribute to the works of the great Norbert Wiener." Ha, Ha. The music itself, an ominous German Polka, is, I suppose, meant to identify Wiener with Bad Germans and be some kind of sly commentary on The Danger Of Cybernetics To Us All. Then there's their unpleasant rendition of "The Blue Danube," once again an instance of failed hipness to these ears.

It's not all bad. Lurking in the music is a genuinely creative jazz/blues sensibility, which comes to the fore most prominently on the Ellington tune "Blue and Sentimental." There's also a kind of twisted reverence for old-timey jazz, effectively presented in "Artie Shaw." Also, it must be said from a chops-only standpoint these are remarkable musicians. I just don't especially like what they're doing with their obviously prodigious talent. Guest appearances by a staggering cast of some of the Downtown scene's most notable players only serve to muddy the waters.

For music with a somewhat similar sensibility, but far more engaging, try the Josh Roseman Unit's Cherry or EZ Pour Spout's Don't Shave the Feeling. 2 and 1/2 stars.

      Album Description

They rolled that ball into a number of headlining gigs at The Curtain Club, and The Galaxy Club, in Deep Ellum. Now the band has just finished recording their first full length called "One of Us" They recorded the CD at MaxiMedia Recording Studios here in Dallas with Eddie Head engineering and producing. Eddy Schreyer (Jane's Addiction, Korn, Tool) is mastering the disc in LA. At first listen, people may still compare Howard's voice to Corey Glover from Living Colour, or Lajon from Sevendust, but Howard has really come into his own with his powerful, yet soulful voice, and can be heard in the brand new song "Alone" where Howard pleads "I don't want to live my life alone, I'm on my own, I'll die alone.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing live band.......2004-03-26

These guys put on one hell of a show. I am fortunate enough to live in Denton, TX so I am only thirty minutes away from Dallas where these guys play every weekend. These guys deserve to make it big time. The guitar riffs on this album are so infectious and the words are so touching that it is impossible not to love these guys. Best songs on the album are Alone, Last Bell, Unmask, and On Your Cross. Buy this album to support a band that deserves to make it big.

Having known DownLo since the days of funk/rap/soul/rock Crucial Fiction, they have taken it to the next level. Bands on MTV wish they had half the talent and lyrics to compete with what DownLo is doing. Unfortunately we all know that you gotta know somebody in this business to make it big, so quite thinking about it and support one KICK A## Band so that the word will spread like an infectious disease.

      5 out of 5 stars A great find!.......2003-10-06

I was browsing through the rock section and I came across DownLo. I loaded the demo track "One of Us" and I was sold. The CD id full of killer tracks! One of Us is still in my CD player after Three Weeks.

        Product Description

(1993 / Victor records Japan) Superior import from Japan of easily one of the finest hard rock CDs you've likely never heard. The comparison to Skid Row's first two CDs is a dead-on hit- from the vocal style- to the wild guitars- to the massive over the top gang backing vocals- this is the best thing Skid Row never released! This is not making a blind comparison either- this truly was Canada's answer to Skid Row (so to speak- considering Sebastian Bach- who by the admission of many was Skid Row, was/is a Canadian himself). The production put to shame the Skid's debut- and easily paralleled their second album "Slave to the grind". Superior sound quality on this original Japanese import to the recent European reissues.
