Editorial Reviews
In 1999, four of the members of Townsend, Todd, Ryan, and the Restani twins, met while working in the promotions department at a popular San Francisco radio station. The "boys" were often teamed up to work major concerts and large promotional events. The guys quickly realized that they all hired on with the radio station for the same reason to work in the music industry, specifically, to be a member of a talented and successful pop group. During the spring of 2000 they formed the group Townsend.
For the last 18 months the members of Townsend have been devoting endless hours in pursuit of their mutual goal. They've been working with vocal coaches to fine-tune their individual solo skills as well as enhance their group skills. They hired a producer/song writer to work with them on the production of their first three songs. Townsend realized that having the right image and having singing skills is not sufficient in the current pop music environment. They also recognized that they had to have a high-energy well-choreographed dance routine. Townsend is definitely a high-energy athletic group and has worked with some of the industry's best choreographers and dance instructors.
In March of 2001, Todd and the other members of the band turned to Bob Dolci (Todd's Dad) to help provide interim management support to Townsend. That was the beginning of Townsend's interim management team. Months later, Bob becacme known as T-Rex to many of the Townsend fans.
In April of 2001, after a few trials and tribulations, Townsend selected a fifth member, Matt Yoakum. Not only does Matt have the right look and vocal qualities that the group was looking for, Matt brought a wealth of music experience to the team.
Wendy took over the development of the Townsend website in May. Bob started the Insider Column later that month. The fans immediately started to respond positively to the website upgrades. The average number of internal hits on the site went from a monthly average of 24,000 to the present average of over 270,000. A significant contributing factor for the increase number of hits on the site was due to Townsend's increased number of appearances and performances.
During the spring and summer of 2001 Townsend was extremely busy. From April through September Townsend performed at two Radio Disney events, one in Sacramento the other in Santa Cruz; they performed at Great America in Santa Clara; they performed at the NASA Air Show at Moffett Field, and they performed at the California State Fair in Sacramento. During this period, Townsend had the honor to open for Dream. Townsend also performed for Macy's Passport '01 Event in Los Angeles. In addition to their performances, Townsend appeared at several events for promotional purposes. To name a few; they appeared at the NSYNC Concert in Oakland, the 98 Degrees concert in Mountain View, and the End Fest In Sacramento.
In May of this year Julie Tittel agreed to become a member of the Townsend management group. Julie brought with her over 20 years experience in the entertainment industry, and contributed significantly to Townsend's increased bookings. More importantly, Julie took on a lot of the group's management responsibilities.
Julie brought more than just her experience to the Townsend management team. She also asked two very talented people to work with the guys. Matt Liebowitz is Townsend's new vocal coach. Matt is considered one of the premier vocal coaches in the business. He has done a marvelous job in bringing the guys to a new level of vocal finesse. About the same time Matt became Townsend's new vocal coach; Paula Henson agreed to work with Townsend. Paula is Townsend's choreographer and dance instructor. She has done a wonderful job bringing Townsend's dance routines to a new level.
Also in May of this year, Joy Tamaki, a long time Townsend fan, was asked to take on a more official role as Townsend'
