About the Artist
Prepare yourself for a raw new sound emerging from the streets of San Francisco California. Checkmate Muzik recording artist Slo-O has just completed his first solo album entitled "Game Over" and is ready to turn the Hip Hop world upside down.

Born on November 4, 1978 in San Francisco, California to a mother and father who soon parted when he was five, Slo-O was raised by both his grandmother and the streets. He was forced to spend most of his childhood living in San Francisco as well as Sacramento, Antioch, Richmond and Mississippi - all of which would later play a big part in his story telling later in life.

Slo-O started listening to rap as early as six and has since been influenced by such pioneers from Rakim, Slick Rick and LL Cool J to Nas, Jay-Z, 2pac and Biggie. By the age of twelve, he picked up the mic himself and began to tell his story. Now, eleven years later at age twenty-three, Slo-O emerges with a new sound that is heavily influenced by this mixture of east coast and west coast music.

Born Omar Flenoid, Slo-O got his name from the street because he was so laid back. Ask him now and heíll tell you that his name now stands for his rap style, "slow most the time and laid back." His songs combine metaphoric lyrics with an ability to tell the experiences in his life. Slo-O also describes his writing style as "story telling and expressing of the trials and tribulations I've seen or done." Left to do a solo project while most of his group was in jail, Slo-O felt the responsibility of holding it down for everyone. With such realistic lyrics and a persuading memorizing edge, Slo-Oís first release, "Game Over" takes you through a journey in each of its 15 tracks. Each track representing a different chapter. Each chapter representing a different story from his life.

"Game Over is a statement! A movement warning people this album is just the start of it. Basically saying we here now, and when the album drops it's game over for other cats who ainít reping the west coast right." From thug life, drugs, and money to basic survival on the streets, "Game Over" is an autobiography. The song "Thug Life" speaks on his troublesome childhood with no mother or father and running the streets doing everything from dealing drugs to robbing people, because that's what thug life speaks about. Although it took a lifetime to put together, it only took a year in the studio to create. With a growing respect and street credibility for his music, Slo-O is on the road to national exposure.

With other projects currently in the works like The Million Dollar Team, Slo-O has not lost his roots. "The team consists of childhood friends I grew up with. My role in the project is to input creative energy and bring fire on tracks. I think with the style and versatility me and my group has, we're destined for fame. We say what people want to hear and we also have the image. I think my group and I are the next to be on the platinum status.

Product Description
San Francisco, CA: From the streets of Northern California, Slo-O, the latest artist to be signed to the Checkmate Muzik label, has recently dropped his much anticipated debut album, "Game Over" on July 9th, 2002. With lyrics that bring to life the struggles of being raised in a rough neighborhood in Fillmore, Slo-O invites you into his version of life…"street reality."

Like a book of different lifestyles, every track on "Game Over" has a different chapter that that takes you through a journey, touching on subjects of violence, struggle, money, drugs, expressing of trials and tribulations and life on the streets. The message is that there are no games involved. This is "real life" to him and millions like him in the urban parts of the country. People lose their life for mere survival, just to wake up the next day to fight for it again. His lyrics make you run with imagination and his passion for storytelling will make you feel like you lived his life.

"Chromed Up," the first single to be released off of "Game Over" is a party club banger. Second single is song called "Thug Life" which captures the story of his life. Touching on subjects from his personal struggle with family and how hard life was growing up without a mom or a dad to the street life he has grown to love and trust, this 23 year old rapper has experienced a part of life that many don't live to talk about.

For the recording of "Game Over", Slo-O brought in other underground rappers like Metro, Eddie Boy, Chu-Luv, 30-30, E-O The Red Nose, The Vigg, Jo-Luv the Savage and Young Tyson. Teaming up with rapper Metro for the song "20-Inch Ryders," Slo-O talks about money, jewelry, and driving expensive cars with an ironic twist. On the one hand you have the 'Lex' with the rims and the guy on the street smoking cigars on the other you have the prison reality of twenty-five to life. It's the concept of these opposing worlds, which compliments the music. For the street minded, there is the realness of "Live Niggaz", "Game Over", and "Where U At."

On "Game Over," Slo-O exposes life on the streets with such sharp lyrics and a smooth flow that he challenges your way of thinking.

Game Over,Slo-O,Checkmate Muzik,Prepare yourself for a raw new rap sound emerging from the streets of San Francisco California.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

5 out of 5 stars Top Shelf.......2007-01-04

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23

THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14

This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway

5 out of 5 stars Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

5 out of 5 stars Sweet, and syrupy; just the way it should be........2006-10-12

Chamillionaire and Paul Wall are two of the few emcees I like in the mainstream scene. It's not because they have anything truly provocative to say, but simply because they present their rap with so much flair and style, that it's impossible to overlook them. Chamillionaire has gone a more lyrical route, while Paul Wall is continuing the subject matter that the Screwed Up Click made famous in the underground in the mid-nineties. On this release, it's easy to tell both men were brought up listening to Screw's music, much like the rest of the Houston scene, and they use the perfect mix of harmonizing flows about 'Lacs and grills, over trippy, and hypnotic beats.

While it's true that Paul nor Chamillionaire are profound lyricists, dropping GZA knowledge on this release, they are both damn good rappers, able to flip sweet punchlines galore. Clever metaphores abound throughout this album, while Chamillionaire sings the hooks in each song. I know Cham gets some flack for singing the hooks in his songs, and has even be labeled "50 Cent Jr." by some people because of it, but for the Chamillionaire detractors, face it; Chamillionaire has a slick voice, and is one of the few rappers who SHOULD handle his own hooks(the only other I can think of is Cee-Lo, and, well, he's made a career out of crooning now).

The Swishahouse crew handle production duties, and as one would expect, that's a good thing. It's hard to get an album sounding this authentic to the Houston sound Screw crafted over a decade ago, but 4 years ago, Swishahouse brought it; and they're still bringing the tight production today. These aren't songs to 'get crunk' to; these are songs to chill to. This is an ideal album to listen to whether you're taking a late night drive, or simply chilling out in your home with your headphones on. Calm, cool, and downright dope, the production on this album matches the charismatic duo perfectly.

If you're a fan of the H-Town sound, then this is perfect for you. Even if you're not, it's still incredibly difficult not to love this release. If you can find it, pick it up. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Still N Luv Wit My $$$.......2006-02-12

I had just moved back to Houston from Seattle when this LP dropped and was in heavy radio-rotation around H-Town. Being away from the South for so long actually made me come back with a greater appreciation for Southern hip hop and the H-Town sound.

This probably isn't the album 4 you if you're looking for a Nas' "Illmatic," Jay-Z "Reasonable Doubt" or Wu-Tang "36 Chambers" type of album -- lyrical masterpieces.

That's not to hate on Paul and Cham b/c they got somethin' 2 say.

This is definitely an album you can ride 2 ... N Luv With My Money is still one of my favorites.

It's really too bad Paul and Cham fell out after this album though I'm not sure I'd even want them to try to top this LP if they got right again.

Fun, fun, fun hip hop album. Recommended for those who like to chill, have a good time and ride to some highly entertaining hiphop music.

4 out of 5 stars Worthwhile.......2006-02-08

I enjoyed this CD quite a bit. The production is pretty good, while both rappers do show some nice lyricism throughout the CD. In my opinion does a better job than Paul Wall, but that's just me. Either way, this CD is worth buying.

1 out of 5 stars weak !.......2006-01-05

anybody who likes chamillionare is trippin'. his flows are weak and his lyrics are weaker. come on "bullet proof vest on my chest so i won't get shot by cupid". is he still in kindergarten cause his flows sound like he's on a playground. paul wall is ok but he should stick to his day job makin' grillz. chamillionare needs to take his iced chain and melt it into a pacifier cause he's still an infant in da game.

5 out of 5 stars The Only Good Album With Paul Wall.......2005-11-06

Ladies and Gentleman....... Koopa is the King..... This album I have owned for a number of years and is still my favorite Chamillionaire album ever... This is such a good album even Paul Wall was good... In case you dont already know this album unlike Controversy Sells was approved by Chamillion and Paul Wall... This is not a garbage thrown together album like Controversy Sells and if you have never heard a Chamillion album this should definetly be your first and if you have never heard a Paul Wall album then you should only buy this one cause all the others with exceptions for The Color Changin Click albums is Boo-Boo... I knew it 5 years ago I still know it today when the Sound Of Revenge drops the sky is the limit for the Color Changin Reptile... Dyke Jones Phoney

5 out of 5 stars A Splendid Souvenir to Remember a Spectacular Performance!.......2003-10-30

Having been fortunate to have seen the English National Opera's production in 1988 of "Orpheus" with Wilson and Pountney's outrageously naughty English text, this highlight CD serves as an audio souvenir. Too bad the ENO didn't have the foresight to film the production-would have made a great DVD. The CD booklet does have a few photos of the sets designed by Gerald Scarfe (who also designed Pink Floyd's "The Wall" album artwork) so you get a taste, combined with the CD selections, of what the production was like.

5 out of 5 stars god moves in a peculiar way.........i am god.............2002-01-17

Offenbach is great anyhow, but this recording is riotous. The translation into English is first-rate, really funny stuff, and the singing is pretty good, too. Very worthwhile.

5 out of 5 stars Orpheus in the Underworld.......2000-03-17

The rewritten lyrics, in English, are some of the wittiest and wicked in operetta. Wilson and Pountney have recaptured the spirit of naughtiness, not a small accomplishment in our licentious times. Though delighted to have the highlights, I wished a CD set or video of the full production were available.

4 out of 5 stars Excerpts.......1999-12-23

This is a collection of excerpts. It is in English and is quite good. The performance of the entire operetta has been discontinued and it is a pity.

5 out of 5 stars Highlights or total Opera?.......1999-11-01

I would like to know if this is highlights from the opera or the total opera.

5 out of 5 stars Don't be ignorant and think this CD is from Eminem.......2004-10-01

I read serveral reviews on this product and was surprised at how ignorant people are.

First of all, this CD doesn't have ANYTHING to do with Eminem (besides his only 1 verse, roughly 40 seconds long on Hellbound). This CD was made to promote underground rappers and give them a little exposure. DO NOT mistake this for anything made and produced by Em or anyone from Shady Records. The verse Eminem had was rumored to be from when he was underground, no matter if that was true or not, Eminem was on this CD because his career was launched from the underground and the buzz he created there was mind boggling.

All that aside, this was a great CD made from the illest of the illest, everyone spitted lyrically, don't expect any Hip-hop crunked up stuff here, just the wonderful sound of rap.

5 out of 5 stars Original.......2001-09-27

i bought this cd not knowing anything about it but i'm not disappointed. this stuff is original and i can't figure out why this stuff gets no air play

3 out of 5 stars FOR ALL YOU STUPID PEOPLE, THIS IS NOT EMINEM!!!.......2001-05-13

Ok... this is not Eminem... it has no affliation with Eminem; he is only 50 seconds of one song. This is Yosumi Reocords. This CD is awesome. I just bought Game Over and Game Over II. This is definitely the better of the two. But Game Over II is awesome too. The mix of video game and rap is the best. The best songs are from games that you can't recognize. Everyone says that Spread It Out and Super Brooklyn are the best songs, but that is only because they don't know what the other songs are from. Do not pay attention to any other reviews; this game is hyper.

5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!.......2001-04-29

This album was great! It had some funny tracks, such as "Splain to Heem",and that toys r' us skit (forgot name). The best songs on that were:Super Brooklyn,Hellbound,Que Que,Spread It out, rumble and the other songs were fairly good, i just named those songs in particular, that I really liked.Eminem was focused,Coccoa Brovaz were really good, and that's it 4 now i g2g until i hear G.O. 2........I'm out!, and as MC Skittlez likes to say,......Mind Power!

3 out of 5 stars disapointing effort from the king of rap.......2001-01-09

eminem kicked started his career at the top with ground breaking beats like brain damage and cum on everybody, then on the marshall mathers lp he had drug ballad and the way I am along with his number one hit the real slim shady and stan.all these had his lyrics ones he wrote and great beats produced by dr.dre, but game over has too many hooks with other rappers eminem does not do enough work on this albim to make it a big success like the marshall mathers lp,being a big big fan of his i was pretty much ..... with this recent attempt! p.s. better luck next time.

5 out of 5 stars catch your breath and spend a few dollars!.......2006-04-16

this single is great and i would reccomend it to anyone who loves to dance!

1. Lose My Breath (album version)- this song was the song of the winter in 2005 and will still get the crowds moving today! the drumline beat and infectious melodies will turn any wall-flower into a dancing queen!

2. Game Over (previously unreleased)- this song, produced by 9th wonder, is a song which should have been on the album point blank. DC3 takes love to the next level on this mid-tempo R&B classic. with lyrics like: "his smile is so amazin'/my heat is open for his taking", you can see these ladies are dedicated to their man! definately worth a listen and one of my favorite songs by the ladies of destny's child!

5 out of 5 stars #1 song.......2005-09-07

Lose My Breath is such a great song I can dance all day to it. Deatiny's Child dhas always brought it down and they know what it's all about. They got soul and bit. Lose My Breath is one of my favorite song it can make you just move to there bit.

4 out of 5 stars Lose My Breath.......2005-03-22

I can't base my review on "Game Over" since I've never heard that song, so I'll just review "Lost My Breath." I have to admit that the first time I heard Lost My Breath (and saw the video), I wasn't too interested. It just seemed like some run-of-the-mill, sex-oriented song. But the more I heard it, the more I appreciated it. It's reaaaaally catchy, and the video's actually pretty cool. Heh, I'm addicted to this song now. ^_^ Cool stuff.

3 out of 5 stars Game Over.......2005-03-03

Very nice song - not sure why it's not on the main CD. If you hate "Lose My Breath," "Game Over" is a nice remedy.

5 out of 5 stars At long last, SWON on CD.......2007-03-12

by now Secret Weapons Over Normandy is an old game (by industry stanards), but I nevertheless play it whenever I get a break from my daily routine because I simply don't get tired of it. And part of the reason for that is the fantastic score, I think the first person who wrote a reveiw here got it quite right. Giacchino captures exactly the right mood so perfectly, I can actualy feel my face flushing sometimes when I play (I'm very senitized to good music). You just can't help but picture a desperate pitched aerial battle over the pacific or the fjords of norway when you hear this. This is a brilliant score all in all, and well worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars Packaged to Please.......2004-02-13

I've been following Michael Giacchino's video game scoring work for some time now. From his debuting and brilliant score for The Lost World to the absolutely amazing work that spans the Medal of Honor series of games. Just from these soundtracks alone, one can tell that Giacchino is a master of capturing the mood of the games' material at an astonishing level.

The game (again, having played it myself) is a heavily action packed, WWII arcade-style flight sim, and to say that the score for Secret Weapons Over Normandy captures the mood of the material is an understatement of the largest kind. Not only does Giacchino capture the mood of the game, but he has managed to orchestrate every break-neck dive, flak burst, bomb blast, every enemy swooping in from out of the sun, and every juking turn to avoid a collision with a canyon wall (I'll stop now because the list could go on for hours) and has put it into two breathtaking CDs.

As the booklet in the CD case says, "This is not music for sipping tea or knitting," and as a final word: BUY IT! You won't be dissapointed.

5 out of 5 stars A SOARING SCORE!.......2004-01-05

One of Michael Giacchino's latest game score's Secret Weapons Over Normany is right up there with some of the best music written for the genre. In fact, it's as good as any film score could get! Written to be heard in the Lucasarts PC game based on world war 2 air combat, almost every track is jam packed with brilliant orchestation and frantic battle cues. Every note is played to perfection by The Northwest Sinfonia along with the Taiko Drum Ensemble and choir.
Much like his brilliant game scores for Medal Of Honor, The Lost World and the Alias TV series Giacchino fills this score with heroic themes combined with dark nemesis tunes mixed with exciting action music. With the use of swirling strings, pounding timpani, blazing brass and woodwinds with choir Giacchino creates one of the most heart pounding action scores to come out in years. This is a two disc set with disc 2 containing bonus musical cues and interviews with the composer along with video of the orchestra performing to be viewed on your computer. If you love music in the style of early John Willians or Jerry Goldsmith then get this score! It' s awesome!

The first of these two discs gathers all Gershwin's commercially issued discs as a pianist, including the two abridged Rhapsody in Blue traversals, Gershwin accompanying the Astaire siblings, and twelve solo sides. Hearing the composer play his own music is like getting your ears cleaned out from 75 years of interpretive maulings. Gershwin's crisp touch, clear-cut and unsentimental phrasing, and rhythmic verve comes through more convincingly in these flat discs than in his much-vaunted piano rolls. Also included are the composer-supervised first recordings of An American in Paris and selections from Porgy & Bess, along with a flawed yet revelatory aircheck of Gershwin playing the finale of his concerto. No Gershwin lover should be without this important collection. --Jed Distler

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Gershwin plays Gershwin.......2006-01-26

George Gershwin's best-selling recording was a 1924 acoustical, black seal Victor disc that reproduced the recent world premiere of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue." The Paul Whiteman Orchestra, which actually a big band with a few strings added on occasion, joined the composer in an edited performance that was intended to fill two sides of a single 12-inch 78-rpm disc. By 1924 the acoustical process had been refined to its highest possible standards; already Victor and Columbia were among the companies experimenting with electrical recording and would begin releasing commercial discs the following spring.

Although one is disappointed with the cuts in the familiar "Rhapsody in Blue," what did make it onto the original disc is quite remarkable. It certainly gives the first clear indication of Gershwin's brilliant piano playing. No one would ever play Gershwin's music with more enthusiasm and ability than the composer himself. The Whiteman orchestra plays Ferde Grofe's original arrangement and gives a clear indication of what the February 1924 premiere must have sounded like, even if the sonics are somewhat limited by the acoustical process. Only three years later Victor reunited the same musicians with Gershwin for an electrical recording, using the same cuts.

Gershwin's numerous piano solos, sometimes including his friends Fred and Adele Astaire (who had introduced some of the Gershwin songs in his musical comedies), are amazing. His virtuoso piano playing astonishes us and, for the most part, the sound on these early electrical recordings is quite good. A single microphone was usually placed close to the grand piano, picking up the best possible sound of that time.

The world premiere recording of "An American in Paris" was made in 1929 for RCA Victor, using a hand-picked orchestra that was conducted by Nathaniel Shilkret, Victor's longtime musical director. Gershwin was on hand, supposedly to supervise the recording of the complete score, but he reportedly "got in the way" and was asked to leave the recording studio. Then it was recognized that there was no one on hand to play the celesta solo, so Gershwin was asked to return and play the brief but impressive passage that adds to the magical moments of this innovative score. Also included were the original Paris taxi horns that Gershwin had brought back with him in 1928 for the first performance.

Alexander Smallens conducted Metropolitan Opera stars Helen Jepson and Lawrence Tibbett and a professional orchestra in excerpts from Gershwin's latest musical triumph, "Porgy and Bess." Although the folk opera had not yet achieved its later great success, many recognized the innovations of this score and RCA Victor asked Gershwin to supervise the recording of some of the important songs from his opera in 1935. While some may question the use of white singers to sing in Negro dialect, particularly when the first performances used a mostly black cast, not even the Metropolitan Opera used black singers until 1955 when Marian Anderson made her long-awaited debut in Verdi's "A Masked Ball."

Finally, there is a tantalizing excerpt from the "Concerto in F" in a special arrangement for Rudy Vallee's radio program on NBC. Gershwin occasionally appeared on radio programs, even hosting his own 15-minute show in the early 1930's, and this is one of the few surviving examples of how Gershwin could dazzle both the studio audience and the millions tuning in on their radios. It is a wonderful moment.

5 out of 5 stars An Essential Gershwin Collection, Despite Variable Sound.......2005-05-14

That Gershwin (1896-1937) died so young from a malignant brain tumor was a tragic loss to the world of music. Like Mozart and Schubert, who also died while still in their 30's, Gershwin was just hitting his stride at the time of his death. Unlike Mozart, he wrote no symphonies or chamber music, but like Schubert, he was one of the greatest song writers the world has ever known. And as the Rhapsody in Blue and Concerto in F clearly demonstrate, Gershwin was probably the greatest "cross-over" artist in American history.

This 2-disc Pearl CD set, as Amazon editorial reviewer Jed Distler points out, is an essential purchase for anyone who loves Gershwin's music. Pearl adheres to an "as is" philosophy of transferring old 78 rpm records to CD. This results in very immediate sound, but a lot of shellac noise comes along with it. With a little twiddling of your treble knob, these performances are very listenable and thoroughly enjoyable.

To my mind, just about everything here falls into the category of "definitive" performance. The 1924 Rhapsody In Blue has more joy and exhilaration than any other recording made (and Gershwin's piano playing is heard more clearly than in the 1927 electrical re-make, fine as it is). It was recorded just four months after the world premiere at Aeolian Hall in New York City. What an event that must have been! The audience included such luminaries as Rachmaninov, Kreisler & Sousa. When the performance was finished, the audience roared its approval with a standing ovation that lasted 20 MINUTES!

The songs with Fred Astaire and his sister Adele are utterly delightful, and Gershwin's solo piano playing strikes me as a far truer representation of his art than his notoriously unreliable piano rolls available elsewhere. "An American in Paris," conducted by Gershwin's boyhood chum Nathaniel Shilkret, is irresistable (Gershwin even plays the small parts for piano & celesta, and the car horns he brought back from Paris are used here).

The original 1935 "Porgy and Bess" excerpts, conducted by Alexander Smallens, are wonderful. Jepson is excellent, but the real star here is Lawrence Tibbett, to my taste the greatest operatic baritone America has ever produced. His enormous charm is complemented by fabulous diction - he's one of the very few "classical" singers whose every word is clearly understandable.

Gershwin never recorded a complete Concerto in F. For the best-ever version of that, you have to buy the Roy Bargas/Bix Beiderbecke/Paul Whiteman account on a Pearl CD called "Gershwin and Grofe," which also has the first-ever recordings of Grofe's Grand Canyon & Mississippi Suites (a lot of fun!). But here we get to hear the ONLY CD account of Gershwin himself playing just the 2nd mvt. from a 1933 Rudy Valle Show radio broadcast. It's fascinating and frustrating at the same time: a tantalizing fragment of what must have been a glorious interpretation.

The Concerto in F excerpt is UNIQUE to this CD - which makes it a MANDATORY purchase for Gershwin lovers. The Rhapsody (both versions), American in Paris, and the Porgy selections are also on Sony's "Historic Gershwin Recordings" in somewhat smoother transfers. The aforementioned Whiteman-conducted Concerto in F is also on a Sony CD called "From Gershwin's Time" (sadly, it's out of print - see my review).

CDs seem to have an alarmingly short shelf life these days, so grab this wonderful set while it's still available.

Very Highly Recommended.

4 out of 5 stars The first disc especially is fantastic.......2001-04-03

For Gershwin collectors, the sides with the Astaires are essential. The Whiteman Rhapsody is also quite good. Some of the later material does NOT feature Gershwin on piano and has the feeling of filler. Still, I've gotten a lot of enjoyment from this collection.

4 out of 5 stars Hex-Ad.......2001-07-09

10-track album which collects singles, album tracks, live performances, and other previously available material. Not quite as cohesive and consistent as "Hex" but a bit more varied, "Game over" is still a valuable document of the band's genre-busting approach and sound. It opens with the 4-minute "Blue", one of BP's most accessible and danceable songs, mixing mid-tempo disco rhythms with atmospheric synthesizer backing, beautiful melodies and Graham's soft, soaring voice. Very engaging, but "Three girl rhumba", a cover version which had originally appeared on the Wire tribute album "Whore", is even better: Very jazzy and laid back, with down-pitched singing and cool melodies, this sounds like a confluence between Barry White and some underground amateur band. To continue the series of great songs, "I know" paints a vivid and romantic portrait of nighttime urban landscapes, using fragile guitar chords, washes of brilliant keyboard melodies, and wistful vocals. One of the finest ballads I've ever listened to. Unfortunately, it's often downhill from there: The album's second half alternates between Cocteau Twins-like guitar tunes ("Bloodrush"), speed metal collages ("Murder City"), strangely tuneless ambient soundscapes (the 21-minute "Scum") and other undistinguished material which isn't nearly as cleverly put together as "Three girl rhumba" or "Hex". My advice: Well worth picking up for the first three songs and as a collector's item, but if you haven't bought any BP album yet, get "Hex" first.
