Is Sarah McLachlan a secret punk rocker? To be sure, her rebellion is hushed. On Afterglow, her first studio album since 1997's Surfacing, McLachlan's music is as tempered as ever; at times even the piano chords at the heart of the sound are tucked neatly beneath layer upon layer of strings and overdubbed voices. Listen to what's being sung within this soothing aural bed, though, and hear the just-before-sleep murmurings of the quietest riot grrl: "I'm a train wreck waiting to happen.... a wildfire born of frustration," "How stupid could I be.... you're no good for me, but you're the only one I see," "I have to push just to see how far you'll go." The latter song ("Push") resolves itself with the assurance, "You complete me." Afterglow by Sarah McLachlan is surprisely moving and wonderfully produced. I am not normally a McLachlan super-fan but some of her songs before this album are quite engaging. I decided to give this album a chance, standout tracks include: Time, Perfect Girl, Dirty Little Secret, Stupid, and Answer. Sarah's voice has improved and her lyrics are at its strongest. I could listen to the track, Time all day long, it sucks you in after the first 20 seconds, amazing! So whether you hate or love her, Afterglow will have you bathed in it for awhile. Enjoy!

I know that this review won't be very helpful, all I can say is that I love this album. Been listening to it for a couple of years now, and it's a fave when I'm in a mood to be mellow. I am giving this five stars so that amazon will recommend more music like this in my personal recommendations. Same with Fumbling Toward Ecstasy.

Apart from a director whose relationship with his subject seems skittish--there's a shyness about the DVD, as though the camera was afraid to linger on its subject too long--and the CD's lamentable incompatibility with iPods, "Afterglow Live" leaves little to nitpick over. Nearly two dozen songs, zigzagging across Afterglow, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, and Surfacing, solidify McLachlan's reputation as a peerless performer on the DVD; the careful attention she layers over these already full-bodied, melodic songs gives each additional shape, as if she were singing them for the first time, and her easy magnetism in front of a mic draws her wholly rapt audience in close enough to feel her guitar strings vibrate. The same likable star quality carries over to the CD, a 15-song sampler culled from the DVD's 2004 Toronto concert. Though fans of less weighty McLachlan material may miss the comparative wispiness of confections like "Ice Cream," her full-throated pourings-on for "Building a Mystery," "Angel," and "Train Wreck," among others, will keep Afterglow Live's bulb burning brightly for years to come. -Tammy La Gorce

I like it better than Mirrorball DVD.......2007-05-16

As said before me, this concert's editing is sometimes boring, but I like it better than the Mirrorball DVD.

Why...?

1. A better performance overall. Sarah's attire, the lights, the scenery... Mirrorball is rather monotone.

2. The sound recording. I almost feel there (home theater, DTS capable). No matter what I do, I cant get the same sound from Mirrorball.

3. The songs from her latest album are here also (Mirrorball concert is previous to Afterglow).

And yes, the album is copy-protected; I can't hear it in my iPod. Only drawback.

I must admit I haven't seen or heard this item. I just want to thank everyone who posted warnings about the absurd content protection software, and the lousy video editing. If not for those things, I would probably buy this in a heartbeat and really like it. It's sad that Sarah's wonderful works is being botched so badly by greediness and incompetence!

This captures Sarah at the peak of her carrer so far. Every song an Enhancement of the studio versions. The sound is rich and full, every instrument clear and present. Wonderful performances by all band members. Standouts: Ashwin Sood on drums (her husband): Sean Ashby and Luke Doucet on guitars. And the voice! Sarah has a vocal and visual presence here to rival Billie Holiay (tho no connection musically).Superb production at stage and recorded levels. Copliment to the artist's music and moods. Sarah captures spititual highs and technical brilliance here. Subtle and powerful. Play the DVD thru a nice sound/video system and and feel like you are there. Those familiar with her music; nuff said. Those looking to discover a show of intense musicianship and message: look no further.

Awesome Concert DVD & CD combo.......2006-09-04

Sarah is a favorite of mine and I was thrilled to get to tune her piano & attend her Afterglow concert here in St. Paul two years ago, so this DVD was a great way to relive that FABULOUSLY AWESOME SHOW. The DVD also has nice extras like a backstage video/glimpse into Sarah's life, concert photos, etc.

My only disappointment was the HORRENDOUS EDITING and frenetic camera work that detracted from her relatively smooth, seamless, and well-put together stage production. (Seems like it was done by a couple teenagers trying to make their first rock music video.)

The concert was BEAUTIFUL, designed to move you & thrill you & blow you away, just from right there in your seat. The DVD didn't need any *dazzling* effects & transitions -- a few well-placed cameras would have served nicely. Despite the video crap, it's a wonderful performance.

I like the CD, too. Slightly uptempo versions of great songs. (*^_^*)

It's a great enjoyment watching Sarah performance on-stage, wish I had been there. Her band is great as always. The way she re-mixed her songs just makes you feel like you are listening to her songs for the very first time.

The only complain I have is that it doesn't have two of Sarah's MUST-HAVE songs:Elsewhere, Full of Grace and Time. otherwise you could buy this CD as a gift to someone who haven't been in touch of Sarah's songs.

The unreleased residue of popular recording careers is typically the stuff of box-set "extra" discs and sometimes suspicious reissue "bonus tracks." Even the Beatles' vaunted Anthology series argued that serving up leftovers as a main course is a risky proposition at best. Afterglow, a collection of 13 surplus tracks from New Zealand popmeisters Crowded House, fares better than most such efforts, if only because of the old-fashioned dedication to songcraft that Neil Finn and company displayed throughout their career. Stretching from the band's pre-signing days ("Recurring Dream" and "Left Hand"), through no fewer than seven outtakes from the band's 1991 standout, Woodface (including some outstanding harmony work between Neil Finn and elder brother and fellow Split Enz mainstay Tim) to sparely produced tracks for an unfinished fifth album, Afterglow possesses a surprising cohesiveness as an album. While there's no stellar pop hits like "Don't Dream It's Over" lurking in this scrapyard, there's enough solid B+ material to perk the interest of Crowded House devotees. --Jerry McCulley

I am very pleased with this CD. It is full of the reasons that caused all of us fans to become fans in the first place. I have been a CH fan since their debut CD came out when I was in high school, and this disc is very reminiscent of that era. Enjoy!

Afterglow and Northern Lights.......2006-12-30

Did you like me love Crowded House? Did you spend lonesome nights in wintery Scandinavia (or elsewhere) feeling sparkles of sunshine come from your speakers as Neil Finn gave us his little life lessons and musings? Did you like me perhaps shed a few tears when you watched the Farewell to the World concert from the steps of Sydney's Operahouse on the telly? And have you like me, been craving just one more hit like some recovering junkie? Then buy buy buy buy this afterglow. I recommend it with all my heart. It is after all like a Recurring Dream.

Better Than Most.......2006-05-05

"Afterglow" is Neil Finn and Crowded House's obligatory b-side album that seemingly every band fortunate enough to last past a couple of albums seems to release. Albums comprised predominantly of b-side and "extra" material are notoriously hit-and-miss. Typically, the disc will highlight a few gems that for one reason or another never saw the light of day on a proper album. The disc will also usually highlight several tracks that for very obvious reasons never appeared on an album--they're unfinished or simply not very good.

To some extent, "Afterglow" fits this criteria, with two notable caveats--Neil Finn is such an accomplished and gifted songwriter that the overall quality of the songs is ratcheted up quite a bit. Also, the album also flows exceedingly well considering that it is a hodge-podge of tracks recorded at various eras throughout their career. These two items make the album a worthwhile listen, particularly for anyone who is a fan of the Crowded House/Split Enz/Finn Brothers body of work.

First, let's assess what, exactly, we have here. The vast majority of the material consists of outtakes from the "Woodface" sessions, a period for the band when Neil's brother Tim joined them and they were, in Neil's own words, especially prolific. Internal conflicts notwithstanding, it's virtually beyond question that the Woodface era was the most productive time for the group. We also have two tracks (the catchy "Recurring Dream" and the perennial live favorite "Left Hand") recorded before the band was signed to a label. A couple of holdovers from the "Together Alone" sessions are here, as is a stunning acoustic rendition of that album's standout track, "Private Universe". Finally, the disc has a home demo from Neil, and the only finished track from the sessions that were to be the never-completed fifth album for the band. So we are given an abudance of material to sift through.

In Neil's comments about various tracks on this album, he talks about how hearing some of these songs now makes him re-think why they weren't originally included on their respective albums. I have to agree. The thoughtfulness and attention paid to many of these tracks--from arrangements to lyrics and production--mimics tracks that did make it onto the album, so it's easy to picture some very contentious arguments between the band members about what should or should not make it onto an album. "I Am In Love", "Sacred Cow" and the phenomenal "Time Immemorial" are but a few of the highlights of this collection.

As with all works penned by Mr. Finn, the listener can easily become swept up in Neil's personal lyrics about life, love and--by his own admission--nothing in particular. This particular collection--more so than any other Crowded House album--shows a very personal side of Neil. Songs such as "I Love You Dawn" (a love song for his wife) and "Lester" (an acoustic demo Neil wrote the night his dog, Lester, had been hit by a truck) give listeners a rare glimpse into Neil's own private life (universe?).

Still, the fact remains that this *is* a b-sides album, after all, and so you're going to get some less-than-stellar material. "Dr. Livingston" is a rare political song from the group, and is a good example of why Neil and the group typically stayed away from such songs throughout their career. "Left Hand", always a favorite live, comes off as sterile and under-performed in the studio. "My Telly's Gone Bung", the only track penned by the band's drummer, Paul Hester, is quickly forgettable.

Regardless, fans of the band and Neil's solo work will find plenty to enjoy in this collection. Not a good starting point for exploring the canon of works of this Aussie-by-way-of-New Zealand group, it nonetheless does a satisfying job collecting the various odds-and-ends the band produced throughout their career, and shows why Neil Finn is rightfully considered to be among the greatest pop songwriters of his generation.

Songs from the Attic.......2005-11-28

Afterglow, the result of some spring-cleaning by Crowded House, gels like a proper album. It is dominated by the preparation for Woodface and the Together Alone sessions at the New Zealand beach village of Karekare. There are some excellent songs here that were never released, or seemed inconsequential when they came out as B-sides. It reveals a lot not only about Neil Finn's perfectionism, but also about the band itself. With all the acclaim of Finn as a songwriter, it's often overlooked that Crowded House was a true band glued together by its rhythm section and harmonies.
This is instantly apparent from the opening number. `I Am in Love' is compelling; it must have kept all of Karekare awake the night it was recorded. The band's chemistry and rapport is obvious, and it shows what a loosening of the bowels those sessions were. `You Can Tell' is also a rescued B-side; recorded at Karekare one night after Paul Hester took an early shower, Finn's guitar and drumming explore a raw nerve.
A sparse version of `Private Universe', all harmonies and reverb, completes the visit to Karekare, but `Help is Coming' - recorded nearly three years later - has the same atmosphere. It dates from the wet winter of 1995, when Crowded House spent a unsatisfying month recording in Auckland. By then, Peter Jones was on drums; he brought the R&B out in Nick Seymour's bass playing, an Al Jackson to Hester's Keith Moon. Seymour's basslines weren't so much walking as wandering, a melodic counterpoint that added to the musical mood.
In 1989-90 (as described in my book Something So Strong) Crowded House was in limbo. Seymour was briefly out in the cold, and Neil was finding more success writing with Tim than for a follow-up to the rich Temple of Low Men. The absolute gem is `I Love You Dawn', a captivatingly simple romantic acoustic ballad that will enter the canon of great love songs. Similarly heartfelt and charming is `Lester', Neil's serenade to the family dog, written after the dalmatian caught a car.
The songs meant for Woodface show how crucial it was to start over and bring in the Finn brothers' co-writes to give the album its strength. `Sacred Cow' and `Anyone Can Tell' reveal Mitchell Froom's method of patching together unrelated choruses and verses doesn't always lead to a `Fall At Your Feet'. (Froom astutely declared the waltz `Time Immemorial' was "too folky"; he also felt Woodface was too long.) Also from the abandoned Woodface rough mix, `Dr Livingston' never takes off, and while `Left Hand' has a ballsy `Come Together' groove, it's like an after-hours improvised wig-out.
Was that the word "Beatlesque"? There are worse slurs, and Crowded House pulled it off better than most. But `Recurring Dream', the earliest song here - a dated, one-riff relic from 1985 - is not enough to resurrect the Pete Best of the group, original guitarist Craig Hooper, and Hester would be the first to admit his slight `Telly's Gone Bung' was "Ringo's song on the album".
Thanks to its strong opening, variety but consistency, Afterglow can be seen as a worthy fifth album rather than an archaeologist's dusty discoveries.

Nice collection of extra material.......2003-04-26

Not quite a "lost album", but almost. Afterglow collects 13 tracks, the "Odds and Sods" of the group's career, as the Who might say. If it were an actual album, it might have been the group's third best, although by nature, the album is a little disjointed. As far as tone goes, the album leans more towards the brighter aspects of the Crowded House and Woodface albums, as most of the songs were recorded in those periods.

The album is a nice collection that flows pretty well, and there are probably a number of groups that would like a collection of songs this strong to be their greatest hits album. The best songs here are "Recurring Dream", a jangle-pop number that predates the group even being called Crowded House; "I Love You Dawn", a pretty love song penned by Neil Finn for his wife, and "Time Immemorial", a folky ballad that was to have closed the Woodface album. Also look for drummer Paul Hester's vocal spotlight on the silly "My Telly's Gone Bung". He's no Ringo, but on the plus side, he's no Ringo. That makes sense if you think about it.

Don't start with this one, but no fan of Crowded House will dislike this album.

"This is a song about Susan" is the first line of Everclear's follow-up to the deservedly platinum Sparkle and Fade. That personalization is one of Art Alexakis's greatest gifts to postgrunge rock; rather than float generalized rage over the ever-growing roar of his power trio, he tells you his stories, those of the people around him, some he makes up--and makes them all yours in the end. The development in the music here, from the Beach Boys-style chorale at the top of the title cut to the new wavey jerkiness of "Everything to Everyone" and "Normal Like You," boasts of not only the band's surefootedness but Alexakis's own generosity. This was an outstanding CD. Almost every song on it could have been a single, and if memory serves me right, almost everyone one of them was. Its just a classic CD, anyone who enjoys music should have this CD, its deep, meaningful, and almost everyone knows one song from it. So why not pick it up.

Well, if I could have only one CD on that deserted island, this would be it. Incredible from start to finish, not one piece of filler. I think Everclear did set the bar too high with this one, because no band could ever surpass this recording, Everclear included. Anybody giving anything other than five stars on this is crazy.

Art saved my life. I totally relate to everything he sings and he's one of the most honest singers ever. He's also got a fantastic turn of phrase. Lyrics are completely unconventional. My favorite line of the CD is from a song called "Normal Like You" it's "Just because you are Neurotic and Depressed doesn't mean that you're sad." It's very true. No one understands that unless you have gone through it. Have a bad break up? Listen to Everclear. Have a crappy childhood but don't want to whine about it? Listen to Everclear. Just pissed off and had a bad day? Listen to 'em.

Dare I say essential...I think I just did..........2006-09-27

`So Much for the Afterglow' is one of those `essential' albums, an album that truly capitalizes on everything that's good and sound about the post-grunge rock scene and delivers one brilliantly paced and almost effortlessly meaningful album, exceptional track after exceptional track. Art Alexakis speaks from experience about drugs, abuse, loss and tragic family life on the tracks provided here and he does so poetically. Songs like the much loved `Father of Mine' give us a heartbreakingly real look into a broken home, and Art's words feel so real you are brought to a place you may have never been but feel you've always known. Every track rings through with Art's personal touch and offers a unique and memorable music experience. Standout tracks include the title track, `Everything to Everyone', `Normal Like You' and `White Men in Black Suits' (my personal favorite) as well as the two singles, the aforementioned `Father of Mine' and `I Will Buy you a New Life' which tackles with class the after effects of a break up, one where kids are involved and feelings still live on.

The best Everclear album so far........2006-08-19

Everclear has a sound.
Whenever you hear a song on the radio, if it's an Everclear song you know it immediately.
Even if you don't know THAT song.
For example, the songs "Everything for Everyone", "I Will Buy You A New Life" and "Father of Mine" are all variations of a theme.
The tempos are all similar: a loping, head-bobbing midtempo cruise.
The guitar chord/bass lines are nearly identical: dum-dum-dum-da-da-dumdum.
The lyrics, however, are the kicker, and they are what elevate Alexakis and company above the usual radio fodder. They're open, insightful, sometimes raw and often funny.
This is the album where the Everclear sound finally defines itself, and the extraordinary number of strong songs makes it a must-purchase.
"So Much For The Afterglow" and "Sunflowers" are killer tunes...melodic, driving modern rock. The rest of the album is filled out with interesting if not spectacular ideas.
This is the one to get, and then pick up their greatest hits.

My favorite album..from my favorite band!.......2003-07-15

I stumbled upon these guys about six years ago, and since then, I have purchased all of their CDs...and I just can't stop playing them! Seriously, I will often just pop a few of their CDs into the stereo, and hit "Random," and I'll be happy all day...I just can't get tired of them! If you aren't familiar with them, their sound is a mix of country, rock, blues, and gospel, and you'll often find a little of everything on each album. It's not really radio-play music...much too real for that, but it is some of the best music you can find in any genre.

Of all of their albums, this one is my favorite. I love all of the songs, but "Blue Skies," and "Floods" are especially great. "Wildflowers" is my favorite song they sing...simple, romantic, and honest...it's the kind of song that you want somebody to sing to you, because it means you're that special.

If you want a new sound that you know you'll love, you absolutely can't go wrong with anything from The Great Divide...especially Afterglow!

This the first CD i ever bought, and that was at there concert here in DAVID CITY, NEBRASKA at the Butler County Fair of 2002 this is also the first time i had ever heard of them. i was even lucky enough to shake hands and talk to Mike McClure (lead singer). However their not all country they have a little of a rock tune to some of their songs. if you like this kind of music then this is a must have CD. the best songs that i like off this cd is "Wildflowers", "Wild Horses", and "Out Of Here Tonight" along with all the other songs. no one will be dissappointed with this CD, trust me.

Just got this CD and it is just what I expected from The Great Divide......EXCELLENT! You just got to love those off-the-beaten-path lyrics that aren't boring like most of today's country music. Unlike his In a Sentimental Mood, which swung wildly from Tin Pan Alley standards to supper-club blues, Afterglow is mostly interested in recapturing the late '40s and early '50s, when jazz, blues, and pop intersected with sophisticated ease. The choice of material is impeccable--songs made popular by Nat "King" Cole, Louis Jordan, and Duke Ellington--and the playing is superb throughout. However, "Ain't I Been Good to You," "Just a Lucky So and So," and a stark read of "I'm Confessin'" are particularly effective. And on his original, "I Still Believe in You," Dr. John proves just how influenced he is by West Coast blues legend Charles Brown, who once recorded at Cosimo Matassa's studio where the future Night Tripper got his start. A lovely, effective album whose only misstep is a version of Irving Berlin's "Blue Skies" that sounds slightly out of step with everything else. --Keith Moerer

I Glow After Listening to this CD!.......2001-02-21

Wow, this is so mellow, so romantic, so moody. I can never just listen to this one just once. I get all perky when I listen to him singing "Blue Skies", I just want to smile and be cheerful, then when "So Long" comes on, I'm instantly sweep back off my feet and end up misty eyed... this man knows how to arrange, pick, write, record and wrap you in a multi mood cocoon! So sit back, put the music on and let the Doctor work his magic with that magical voice.

Smooth Baby.......2000-07-12

"AfterGlow" is a fabulous collection of big-band classics, with a couple of originals thrown in for good measure. From the rolling piano intro of "I Know What I Got," which soon bursts forth into a glorious blaze of horns, you know this is going to be a special album. And indeed it is. The Doctor's gravelly voice is a perfect compliment to Tommy LiPuma's smooth arrangements, which sound both authentic to the period and nicely up-to-date. Highlights include the opening number, "Gee Baby, Ain't I Good to You," "I'm Just a Lucky So & So" and "There Must Be A Better World Somewhere," a Dr John tune originally recorded by BB King. Oddly enough, his take on "Blue Skies" falls flat, and the album seems to trail off rather than make a definitive final statement. That said, however, "Afterglow" is an album I always pull out when I need that distingue ambience.

Not typical of the Doctor, but GREAT MUSIC.......2000-02-23

This is surely one of the best big band/vocalist albums there has ever been. It sits well in the tradition of Basie, Schuur, Joe Williams etc. but Dr. John's voice sparkles the way nobody else's possibly could. I strongly recommend this album as not run-of-the-mill Dr. John stuff, but something a little different which shows him off brilliantly - for your ultimate benefit. Please buy this - you will enjoy it.

Edge of Sanity: not only a melodic death metal band.......2004-01-17

Unlike the Gothenburg scene dominated by bands like In Flames and Dark Tranquillity, Edge of Sanity led by Dan Swano was a band that stuck more to the roots of American death metal combining it with Swano's musical vision, which is putting as much emphasis on melody as possible. Furthermore his songwriting refuses to compromise stylistically as he was deeply influenced by 70's and 80's prog rock (speaking of which, his solo album Moontower is possibly his greatest work to date). Dan's indepedent-minded approach to creating original compositions along with cerebral lyrics suggest that Edge of Sanity was definitely a much better band compared to their contemporaries. It's a shame they went unnoticed by many death metal fans until their masterpiece Crimson which unfortunately was written when the band members were on bad terms with each other. This eventually would led to Dan's departure in 1997 and we wouldn't hear another EOS album featuring him on vocals for more than five years.

Back to Purgatory Afterglow... I consider this one a perfect transition album from the band's older American death metal style to their more prog-driven motives. Musically this album shows a lot of potential growth and maturity in the way that it balances power, anger, lyrical depth, and musical complexity almost perfectly. Considering that Dan was only 21 when he wrote this album, this is a great piece of work. The sharp intelligence, clear vision, and genuine warmth in every song on this album proves that Purgatory Afterglow is a sadly overlooked offering from one of the most underrated (yet amazing) death metal bands ever. Stunning Death Metal.......2001-08-02

Well, Purgatory Afterglow is second on my list of best EoS releases, first being Crimson of course. This is in all ways perfect album, anyway you look at it. The first track, "Twighlight" is possibly one of the best melodic death metal songs ever written. "Blood Colored" could be considered as death rock and roll, and Swano started experimenting with clean vocals more on "Black Tears", not to mention it has one of the best/catchy riffs ever. "Elegy" has great lyrics, and "Of Darksome Origin" is just great, very evil. In short, this album is sweet, do yourself a favor, if you're into melodic DM, heard previous Swano efforts, you can't miss with Purgatory Afterglow. It's one of the best Swedish Melodic Death Metal 'representatives' in the field. Buy it.

With Purgatory Afterglow, Edge of Sanity with mainman Dan Swanø, released what is considered to be the best death metal album ever. If one listen to songs like "twilight, elegy, velvet dreams or black tears" you get the feeling that it's hard to do it any better. Where can one take from here? This is it. The definite death metal album. You just haven't lived until you've heard this album. A pretty bold statement, but true in fact. Go get it!

The unreleased residue of popular recording careers is typically the stuff of box-set "extra" discs and sometimes suspicious reissue "bonus tracks." Even the Beatles' vaunted Anthology series argued that serving up leftovers as a main course is a risky proposition at best. Afterglow, a collection of surplus tracks from New Zealand popmeisters Crowded House, fares better than most such efforts, if only because of the old-fashioned dedication to songcraft that Neil Finn and company displayed throughout their career. Stretching from the band's pre-signing days ("Recurring Dream" and "Left Hand") through no fewer than seven outtakes from the band's 1991 standout, Woodface (including some outstanding harmony work between Neil Finn and elder brother/fellow Split Enz mainstay, Tim) to sparely produced tracks for an unfinished fifth album, Afterglow possesses a surprising cohesiveness as an album. While there's no stellar pop hits like "Don't Dream It's Over" lurking in this scrapyard, there's enough solid B+ material to perk the interest of Crowded House devotees. --Jerry McCulley

A nice addition.......2000-06-24

I haven't been a fan of Crowded House for very long. I remember always liking their one big hit, "Don't Dream It's Over" and always wondering who did that song. Then a couple of years ago, I picked up Recurring Dream, their retrospective album, and since then I've counted Crowded House among my favorite bands. It's too bad they're broken up, but fortunately we have this last final word from a great band. Afterglow isn't like many other B-side compilations, in that most of the songs are actually good! From the first moments of "I Am In Love," you're hooked - it's a truly beautiful song. This album has everything that was great about Crowded House - introspective, honest lyrics, Neil Finn's passionate tenor voice, and some great beats in the background. My favorite song on the album has to be "Recurring Dream" - it's a fun and energetic anthem. I can't say I like every song on Afterglow, but on the whole, this is a perfect "last word" from a talented group. It's a good thing the members of Crowded House are still making music on their own - they're too good to fade away entirely.

Just when you think it's over, we get the privilge of Neil Finn's incredible song writings! How refreshing to get a whole "new" Crowded House album. From the relaxed, accoustic version of "Private Universe", to the amusing song, "My Telly's Gone Bung", this cd is a great mix of songs that I personally will enjoy for years to come. I only wish more people would've appreciated such amazing, fine talent that this group had to offer. Thank you, Neil and the rest of the guys for one last, great Crowded House collaboration. You will have a dedicated fan in me, always!

Its like having a brand new CH album!.......2000-06-04

Wow! Since the US always treated Crowded House like red-headed step children, I won't be shocked if this album doesn't do well - but it should! What fun to hear some autobiographical songs (Lester, about Neil's dog and My Telly's Gone Bung, about Paul Hester's obsession with t.v.). Cuts like Sacred Cow and Anyone Can Tell sound fresh and fabulous, and one wonders why these songs were allowed to sit dormant instead at least being put on singles long ago. A couple of the tracks sound a little scrappy, but all in all, each is a treasure. Neil's interview is more of a monologue, but he sheds some light on the former workings of this great band. This album is great fun.
