About the Artist
Rob-N-Hood Music Ministries was birthed in the heart of founder Stephen Powell in 1994. Heeding the call of the Lord to "Steal souls from Satan and give them back to God," Stephen abandoned the secular dance band scene and began this Christian Music Ministry. Initally Stephen began this journey of ministry as a solo artist, not knowing who would eventually comprise the group's membership. Over time vocalists were added, and the Lord opened doors of opportunity for the group. Rob-N-Hood was enlisted as the opening act for Grammy & Dove Award winner Shirley Caesar at the Capital Music Hall in Wheeling, WV in 1996.

Nichole Powell, Stephen's sister then joined the group as a background vocalist for this event. Sensing a similar calling for music ministry and a shared vision for Rob-N-Hood, Stephen and Nichole then took this ministry in a different direction as a duo in 1998. On this journey, the Lord has provided them the honor of ministering with internationally known artists, such as Dawkins & Dawkins and Praise & Worship Leader, Andrew Ironside, and to plan and promote several Christian events for their local community.

Stephen and Nichole have submitted their ministry to the leading of the Lord and are praying for the opportunity "to go into all the world and preach the Gospel" to our Global community. Rob-N-Hood will continue to plan and promote quality Christian events and hope to share what they have learned with new Christian artists who are just beginning their journey of ministry.

Though the face of Rob-N-Hood has changed over time, the purpose of this ministry has always remained the same, to encourage others to tap into the hope, peace, and joy that come from having a relationship with Jesus Christ. Rob-N-Hood capitalizes on any opportunity to share the Word of God through song, taking care never to compromise the message.

Operatic icon. Performer against which others are measured........2007-05-26

Maria Callas may be the only female operatic 'superstar' working in my lifetime. In the 1950s and early 1960's, she had all the star power and paparrazi draw of Jackie and Marilyn, far outstripping the fame to the world at large of her primary rival, Renita Tibaldi. I am not an expert, or even an experienced amateur at evaluating operatic sopranos; however I've listened to several of the modern crop, and while the newbies probably do a better job of keeping on key, none of them can match the drama emoted by Ms. Callas on any given aria. All three releases are especially good buys, as they all run to over 72 minutes; however the recording quality does show its early (pre-multitrack, pre-digital) recording technology. Each is as good as the next regarding content, but 2 and 3 are a bit better in sound quality.

La Divina set the stage.......2007-01-05

Maria Callas, as I understand it (I'm not a music expert), helped create a new interest in the bel canto tradition of Donizetti and Bellini at mid-twentieth century. This album represents those composers, plus many others as well.

Callas' range in choice of operatic material is great indeed. Selections on this CD run from Gluck to Donizetti to Bizet and Puccini. Her voice, uneven on occasion, does not define her importance. As noted, she helped spark a renewed interest in bel canto works. The irony is that she did not have great coloratura skills. In the selection from Lucia di Lammermoor, a trill is scarcely heard. Think a few years later, to Joan Sutherland, later still to Beverly Sills, and more recently to sopranos such as Angela Gheorghiu. They all have much better technique, trill well, and exhibit much more agile coloratura singing. But Callas was an important predecessor.

More important than technique is the passion that many heard in her voice and her presence on stage. This is a good introduction to the range of Callas' repertoire and a reminder of this fiery singer from decades ago.

We were disappointed with this CD, but for the price I guess we can't expect much. I didn't care for the new style presentation of the songs. I like a more traditional rendering.

Not so bad, 100 tunes for 4$.......2005-06-22

I red the comments of two other people who have bought this 4 CD BOX SET and it is not really so bad. I will even add that there are some excellent tunes. However, I must agree with the fact that few tunes seem to have been recorded 40 or 50 years ago, mainly when you hear the scratches of an old turntable but it is just 2 or 3 tunes. Furthermore, if you do not know American music, it is a good BOX SET to buy if you consider that you received 4 CD for 4$ including 100 tunes. On these 4 CD, I have heard some orchestration that I have never heard before and I consider that they are different but interesting. Any way, after hearing these 100 tunes, you will say to yourself that you like this tune, this other tune, this other tune and so on and you will be able to buy a more expensive CD with the tunes that you like. However, I have bought many CDs in the last few weeks and as you know, there are always some tunes that you like and some tunes that you do not like on every CD that you will buy. So, don't buy it at 25$ but at 4 or 5$ dollars, it is a very good choice for 100 tunes.

You get what you pay for. The singers put their own spin on the singing of each song. If you didn't hear the words you would not recognize some of them. Even some of the music sounds like a bad recording of music played on a turntable. Definitely not worth the price.

I wish this review had been here when I was thinking of purchasing it. I guess you get what you pay for. If you are thinking of buying this, you are better off recording your own CDs (or at least buying one that you can listen to a sampling of the songs). This album includes songs that were mere recordings of the songs playing on an old record player. It's almost so unbelievable that it is funny.

As various new artists start to make their appearances few can cause a steam of R&B sounds that have intense dance, hip-hop, and shining vocals that are sweet and soft yet sexy and strong as Cassie!

"Me & U" (Main 3:12) has an excellent dance, R&B, and hip-hop style. While the meaning behind the song ranges from various themes, the reality is that nothing is more intriguing than uncovering your own thoughts of what it could be. Experience sounds that will be sure to make you feel ready to move your body in ways you never thought possible on the dance floor!

"Me & U" (Ryan Leslie Remix 3:14) has some variation to the original version as the song has added vocals [rap style] and added instrumentations. The added rhymes in the rap part completely make this single worth the buy! The style and direction of the remix change the song by adding flairs of feeling the meanings behind the lyrics better as well as setting the mood to dance in high gear. While there are no distinct techno or trance effects, the overall feeling is definitely a trip to the night club as you glance at a totally friendly stare. There is booming bass, claps, and background electronica sure to set the stage for getting into the party state!

Ashanti remixed........2003-11-24

This is the UK cd single for the huge "Rock Wit U(Awww Baby)" track. The cd comes with 3 remixes plus the original radio version. The Taz & Vangard remix(4:24) and the J.D. Remix(3:54) are R&B/hip hop in the vibe. The Taz & Vanguard mix features a new rap by Taz while the J.D. mix features vocals by UK group member J.D. aka Dready from the So Solid Crew. Each are equally good. The highlight of the cd is the Jay Hannan Lazy Dog Mix(6:30) that is pure heaven. The house vibe with a deep heavy live bass is a great counterpoint to Ashanti's sweeter vocals. When the male voice states "Let's Rock" and the house music kicks out it is a thing of sheer beauty. It is a R&B /Soulful type house mix. A+++++ remixing.
