The complete Grease experience. This cd is a two disc-set with disc one being the complete soundtrack, while disc two is all bonus material including the popular Grease Megamix. Fans of the movie would want to make this cd an essential part of their music collection.

Well here we are with a great piece of history.

This album has not only captured the spirit of the movie but the essence of a 1970's version of the 1950's. I have seen this play live and yes some things are different. Yet I grew up on the movie. I even find myself singing some of the songs now and then. Of course you will never see me singing "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee." However I do keep this in my car as great driving music. This album is not you can pick apart and say things like missing songs, in the wrong order etc. It sounds and feels just right. There will be many versions yet this one is the Grease - Deluxe Edition [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] [SOUNDTRACK] gives you more information about each of the tracks allowing you to feel that you have inside information and to feel that you know more of what went into the making of each song.

Great Soundtrack & Fun Extras from an Enduring Musical........2004-07-06

I'm enjoying listening to this great soundtrack that I loved as a child after a long hiatus. I had it on 8-track 25 years ago. So it's fitting that I should get the 25th Anniversary Edition on CD. The 24 songs from the movie are just as everyone remembers them, so I'll talk about the Bonus Disc, which contains 10 alternative versions of the songs plus 2 previously unreleased instrumentals from the film.

Track 1 on the Bonus Disc is an instrumental version of the film's theme, "Grease", written and produced by Barry Gibb. Frankie Valli's voice has been replaced by a saxophone. The chorus is vocal, but the voices are not those in the original song. You could use this as a sing-along version, as it would be easy to sing over the sax. Tracks 2-5 are officially sing-along versions. "Summer Nights" includes the chorus vocals from the film and sounds good. "You're the One That I Want" has new chorus vocals of questionable merit. "Sandy" is a new arrangement. It's not as good as the film version, but you can sing along. Track 6 is the single version of "Greased Lightning" that you may have heard on the radio back in the day. It's differs from the original in that the bad words have been replaced for radio airplay. Tracks 7-8 are previously unreleased instrumentals from the film. "Greased Up and Ready to Go" is lively. Tracks 9-10 are mixes that I occasionally hear on the radio. The "Grease Megamix" and the "Grease Dream Mix" are fun, if awkward. Tracks 11-12 are Martian Remixes of "Summer Nights" and "You're the One That I Want". They retain the original vocals, but set them to a Latin rhythm. They make pretty good dance tracks.

This 2-disc set isn't in a jewel case. The case is paperboard with 4 panels that fold out. This is inside of a clear vinyl slip case on which the tracks are written. This isn't convenient packaging. On the bright side, the case won't crack in the mail. Tucked inside one of the panels is a booklet that contains lyrics and credits.

The "Grease: 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" is a terrifically fun soundtrack to one of the all-time great movie musicals. And for all those preteen girls who go wild over the movie with each new generation, the bonus material is perfect for parties and horsing around.

If You Love Grease, You'll Love This - Only 1 Major Flaw.......2004-05-15

Disc 1 is like the original album, which I also own. 1 major flaw is that "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing" cuts off at the very end of it! I was upset by this, hence the 3 stars instead of 4. Disc 2 is a lot of fun w/some remixes and sing-a-longs, all in all, I'm pretty happy with it being that I'm a HUGE Grease fan. If you like Grease, you'll love this, it's fun. Too bad when they "remastered" it, they didn't catch there 1 mistake. Oh well, at least I have it on another album.

Bad Boy review.......2005-09-27

I am such a freestyle freak! Growing up in NYC, it was just what you listened to. The music just brings you back to the club scene from the late 80's & early 90's. I loved the song selection on the CD, BUT>> the transition in between songs was a bit overwelming. That would be the only reason why I wouldn't put it on at a party. The songs in itself are so much fun and exciting to listen to. There is no need for all the remixing & scratching before each song, because it takes away from the CD and the music which is what it's all about. Thats my only down note about it because the CD is great!!! I have the entire collection. The music took me back to when I was a teenager hanging out at the clubs in NYC & (the boogie down Bronx) with my friends. I think it's so cool that my kids know now what Mommy's music sounds like from the 80's!Thank you :)

Bright Boy Joe.......2003-06-26

A good compilation of classic freestyle songs from the "do you remeber the late 80's and early 90's" time period as the announcer puts it on the first track. Bad Boy Joe does an excellent job mixing the songs to flow together from one track to the next and picks the key parts of every song to actually replay as beats. All the songs are common and can be heard on ktu or any station playing freestyle. My only complaint is that I wouldn't consider these the 2nd best set of songs ever in freestyle.The songs are good, but some I think could have been saved for later volumes, but that is an issue in preference I guess. I would def recommend this for any serious freestlye fan b/c it puts good songs all in one place that are just keep flowing when played.

Don't buy this CD with the intent of getting the original songs.... the DJ chose to perform some of his own "freestyle" scratching inside every song.... you're not getting what you remember from the radio when this material was new. Pass on this CD with a quickness!

GOOD START...........2005-05-27

This CD definitely has a lot of good freestyle songs. However, a lot of these songs should not be on volume 1. They were decent hits but not some of the super hits you expect on a first volume compilation like this. The mixing is excellent and everything flows like you would expect from Bad Boy Joe. Being 4 other voulmes are out it doesn't pay for me to say the other songs I would have rather heard on here, but if you are only buying this cd because it is the first volume then that would be a mistake, you need at least volumes 2 and three to get A LOT of hits.

VOLUME 5 AND THE BEATS DON'T STOP.......2004-10-03

This cd only proves how strong freestyle is. This is the fifth volume and the songs are still excellent. There are no fillers on this album. Every song on disc 1 was a genuine hit. TKA and George Lamond rule this cd of course with songs of theirs that might be the best of each ever. The mixes are well done, everything flows like usual. I especially like "Arabian Nights". I can't find that anywhere and it is finally here. All and all this is the 5th perfect cd out there (after Bad Boy Joe's first 4 freestyle albums).

I cannot believe it...but Bad Boy Joe's Freestyle Megamix Vol.5 is definitely my absolutely favorite in this entire series! It's packed with incredible hits from some of the hottest freestyle legends like Lisa Lisa, The Latin Rascals, Sweet Sensation, George LaMond, TKA and one of my most loved..and hard-to-find club hits..."Dancing On The Fire" by India.

Bad Boy Joe does Freestyle music proud !!!.......2004-09-17

Bad Boy Joe takes classic Freestyle music and makes them sound new. Adding the NEWSCHOOL Freestyle cd was great idea. It gives someone like me who grew up in the 80's with the oldschool to listen to the 'new blood'. You can't go wrong with "Bad Boy Joe Presents", just sit back and bring back the memories.

Being a DJ for over 16 years I can appreciate Joe's work and the approach that he takes on all of his mixes. I own all 6 volumes and each one is masterfully done from a DJ prespective with perfect multi dubbing, editing and mixing reminiscent of old Latin Rascals, Andy Panda, Lewis A Martinee and Chep Nunez style of mixing. This style of mixing requires great creativity and talent which is something Joe seems to posses as he takes on every mix with relentless technique on this compilation of classics. The beats are right on track and the multi editing and dubbing is flawless. I must say the old school B-boy tracks put in the mix in volume 4 are my favorites, B-boy breaker jams like Looking for the perfect beat, Play that beat, I.O.U., Play at your own risk, Jam on it etc. were long overdue for someone to put on a new mix. I hope more of these Electro funk jams of the early 80's are in store for future volumes. The rest of the cd was great overall although I felt the song I'll house you did not belong on this mix and should have rather been held for a future classic ultimate house mix. Still I must say this is some of the best freestyle mixing I have ever heard aside from Albert Cabrera (Ex-Latin Rascal) and one which I'll keep following as long as the music selection remais off the hook as it has until now in all 6 volumes and as long as Bad Boy Joe Masters the mix like only he can. Keep it up Joe!!!

Incredible!...That's all I can say. When Bad Boy Joe said "Back To The Old-School"...he wasn't kidding. Man...songs like "Set It Off", "Jam On It", "White Lines" really take me back to those great club days of the early 80's. And I absolutely love that track "Din Daa Daa" by George Kranz. I've been searching for a c.d. with that song for just about forever.

Joe has done it again with some of the greatest songs that show where Freestyle music really evolved from...and mixed them the way only he knows how to do.

My hats off to you again Joe...You are the MAN! And I'd give this star 10 stars if I could. I can't wait 'til Volume 5.

bad boy joe is slowly but surely securing a name for himself on the dance circuit. when i heard "feel the drums" volume 1, i was absolutely blown away... volume 2 was amazing as well, and volume 3 doesnt disappoint. the beats are hard, the transitions are flawless, and the energy is hot. the "feel the drums" cd's are really the only ones that I can listen to, close my eyes, and feel like I'm back at Sound Factory at 4 am. No talking, just non-stop beats...the way it should be!! Classic...some hard to find,some not,mixed in with a coupla newer beats..newer meaning post 80s. if you're givin' a old school party...excellent backdrop music...the crowd will either be dancing to the sounds or saying..."dam haven't heard that in a while!!"....it's ALL good.

What's up with this?.......2004-12-19

This CD has some good songs on it, but the majority of them are less than 2 minutes! It's kind of a rip off since the songs are much shorter than I expected. They are mixed together, and sometimes a song is so short that the one before it is still fading out by the time the song after it has started! If you don't mind really short songs, buy this, but I wouldn't recommend it otherwise.

The beauty of Steve Reich's minimalist compositions can be found not in their repetition but in their evolution. Listening to the Kronos Quartet perform Different Trains, the listener quickly gets over the camp value of the conductor samples to discover an unfolding theme that harks back not only to bustling industrialism but also to the horror of the Nazi concentration-camp trains. Reich is a master of such subtle changes in sonics, and his impeccable timing turns simple phrases into musical tapestries. On Reich Remixed, some of dance music's more innovative artists pay homage to the composer in the way they know best: by sampling his works and remixing them into their own. Coldcut's take on Music for 18 Musicians adds a fast-paced techno flair to the classic composition, Howie B's Eight Lines respectfully keeps the integrity of the original piece, and Tranquility Bass peppers "Megamix" with voices and (eventually) beats. There are some misses here, and, most unfortunate, DJ Spooky's schizophrenic treatment of City Life lobotomizes a previously fine composition. No, you still can't dance to Reich, but you can see how others use him for source material. But after hearing these condensed and diced versions, you might find it's worth delving back into Reich's originals to hear what the fuss is all about. --Jason Verlinde

Boring and unimaginative.......2005-07-13

My opinion is that this compilation doesn't glorify Reich or electronica. I used to think that most techno enthusiasts and maybe even techno composers had probably never heard of him. While I've come to learn that this isn't true, I think this CD would be a good argument in favor of it. I certainly didn't expect Reich Remixed to compare with the originals. And there is certainly nothing wrong with a tribute. But everything here is against Reich's style, both too fast and too simple.

The Coldcut remix of Steve Reich's 18, unfortunately the best track on the disk, is laughable in comparison and a warning against the tracks that follow. After reading the reviews for the original Music for 18 Musicians, there are several people who can say nothing except that it is slow and boring. I think you might as well include Coldplay in that number. It is as if he recorded himself skipping forward through the first 5 or so minutes of the original and smiled at his creation.

He isn't the only one who obviously missed the point. Most of the remixes use some of the cheapest sounding instruments and methods I've heard; these aren't just bad tributes to Reich, they are bad tributes to techno! And don't expect to hear phasing, which was introduced for the first time in Come Out and Drumming, in their remixes. That would require at least some trivial knowledge of Reich's contribution to minimalism, which these artists obviously do not have. And anyway, Reich used much more than rhythmic, vocal/musical repetition and staccato notes, let's get that straight.

I wasted my money on this one. If you haven't been introduced to Reich, I envy you! Try Music for 18 Musicians and Different Trains, many agree that those are among Reich's most powerful pieces.

Children of Reich Create Loving Homage.......2005-04-16

The entrancing hobby of looping gave birth to essencially all forms of techno in existence today, and all followers should be thankful Steve Reich's cassette tapes messed up one day to create a looping effect. He soon became obsessed with overlapping sounds and varying tempos, a basic foundation for modern day electronic music. Such is the reason why a wide variety of artists came together to create a tribute album to this obscure classical composer, and the end result is a diamond in the rough.

If "Reich Remixed" has any style permeating through the whole album, it is the esoteric sounds of trance. Each track brings in a sentimental mourning, but also sings out hosannas of joy, hailing the appreciation of the father of techno. Tranquility Bass's "Megamix", succeeding fully in painting a mural of Reich's repertoire, Coldcut's loving recreation of "Music for 18 Musicians", and Howie B's "Eight Lines" tribute will draw you in with their joyful melodies. Yet darkness lies ahead as well. Andrea Parker brings in a creepy Trip-Hop version of "The Four Sections", perfect for committing a bank robbery if you get off on that. The bonus track from freQ Nasty & B.L.I.M. has the rough sound of Drum n' Bass without corrupting the original message, although it sounds a bit out of place on this album. The masterpiece is Nobukazu Takemura's "Proverb", which stacks the voices in one loop, which will make one double check the CD for scratches. It not only holds true to what Reich was attempting, but re-interprets.

To those who were already die-hard Reich fans, a word of caution. This CD will sound repititive, perhaps even like cheap rip-offs of the original tracks, as they cannot possibly recreate the massive pieces Reich composed in six or seven minutes of CD time. As well, there are slip-ups. "City Life" is butchered to pieces and essentially impossible to enjoy, and "Come Out" only highlights the limitations of techno's possibilities to create as compared to pen, paper, and a symphony orchestra.

The album explores techno's creative possibilities to new levels, and is an aural treat. Consider it Reich's first DJing experience, changing the world of music in the same way his originals shook the ear drums.

Highs: Techno symphony, with the same variety as an orchestra, skillfully mixed, loving and appropriate recreations of Reich's original masterpieces.
Lows: Reich's originals are better, sometimes butchered here, same repitive downfall of techno at times.

Decent, but disappointing overall........2002-01-05

There are a few really good tracks on this CD. My personal favorites are Music for 18 Musicians, Four Sections, the Megamix, and Piano Phase. The Desert Music remix (the bonus track) is okay, not great, but okay. And then there's the bottom end of the spectrum, which is everything else. Unfortunately, what I like is overpowered by what I dislike.

Great music for an electronic fan.......2001-10-04

I enjoyed every one of these pieces on their own. I am familiar with most of the electronic artists and each one of these songs is beautiful. I had never heard Steve Reich's music before this. I enjoyed his music but, I didn't think that the remixes were completely true to his form. Reich's music has some good ideas that the remixer's somewhat expanded upon. I think the idea was to take some of Reich's ideas and put it in to a more modern style. If they wanted someone to rehash his ideas, then it would have been boring. I enjoy these artists, but there are artists out there that are using some of his ideas already, namely Plastikman and Tortoise. Overall the songs are great in any sense.

Proxy for a Reich's Greatest Hits CD?.......2001-06-16

Of all modern classical composers, Steve Reich is the one whose music is most likely to attract the rock-oriented ear. 'Music for 18 Musicians' was a ground-breaking album which closed out the 1970s, and it took much of the audience that had been nurtured on Tangerine Dream's 'Ricochet' and, before that, Mike Oldfield's 'Tubular Bells'. It was only to be expected that other artists would start sampling Reich's works.

I can't get enough of 'Music for 18 Musicians' -- I bought it on LP in 1979, and two versions on CD. It is my No. 1 self-hypnosis album. So I was intrigued to discover how it would be re-worked for this album. I was disappointed, frankly. The Coldcut Remix provides no evidence that the DJ has listened beyond the first five minutes of the original.

But there's no heresy in modifying Reich's music. I welcome every effort to do so. I knew about half of the pieces selected here, so, for me, it's partly a Reich sampler. The great thing about the album is that not only did it get me buying more of Reich's output, but it also got me listening more to the originals.

For me, the stand-out track here is 'Piano Phase', which applies prog-rock values to a piece I didn't know at all well. It could so easily be Rick Wakeman or Keith Emerson playing the synth lines over the piano loop!

The opening track has grown on me over the years. At first listen, the Megamix seemed to have too many different samples crowded in; it seemed too ambitious in searching for common musical themes between no fewer than nine of Reich's albums. But now it flows nicely.

The closing track, supposedly based on the Desert Music, is a straightforward techno track, almost Prodigy-like, whose relationship to Reich's music seems entirely tangential.

I believe every Reich fan should hear this album, even though a few will find perhaps nothing to like. And I'd recommend anyone who buys this album without knowing Reich to listen also to 'Different Trains', 'Electric Counterpoint', and of course, 'Music for 18 Musicians'.

Until Nonesuch releases in the US the greatest hits CD compiled in Japan, we will have to rely on this as the only single-CD tour through Reich's works, however oblique and re-shaped these may be.

what a great cd! i like osmand's voice the best. Though, i like keli rebke's voice better than janet metz. Still, it's a great cd. And i have a qestion. Does any one has pictures of this show?

fun Musical- great costuming- I should know I did this musical in Children's Theatre when I was in the sixth grade-Believe me Donny Osmondan has great vocal range- he's excellent as joseph, However when we did it (with my now elederly mother as the stage manger!!) the guy who played Jospeh Adam ( sixteen at the time) well, let's just say at the point I had a huge embrassing cursh on him that I still to this day never told anyone about (except my mom on one ocssain) what A hunk!!

This recording is wonderful! The musical's score is beautiful and is also performed beautifully on this recording! A must have for any Webber, Rice, Osmond, or Joseph fan.

Any Dream Will Do!.......2000-01-16

I saw this show 3 times with Donny and recently saw it twice with a different "Joseph"--there is no comparison. Donny brings feeling to the songs that no one else could. Duets with the narrator gave me the chills. His voice is as clear in person as it is on the CD.

My 6 year old and I sing all the songs and my 1 year old dances along. Listen to the words--it's very funny. If you are a dreamer and want a fun, magical musical that everyone can enjoy--this is the CD for you.

This version of the soundtrack is great. I have heard other versions, and none of them hold up to this one. Donny Osmond brings a certain something to the show, and "Close Every Door" shows off his range. I think anyone would enjoy this cd.
