Editorial Reviews
... Layne Brothers Josh and Robin bring new sparkle to old carols in this delightful CD!
Product Description
As the title suggests, this CD features the unusual combination of harp and marimba. Together, the two instruments create a gorgeous sound, very evocative of the Christmas season. A mix of favourites - from Silent Night to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer - A unique way to celebrate the "Christmas Spirit."
About the Instruments:
The harp - The pedal harp stands a little over six feet tall. It has 47 strings, and seven pedals at its base. The pedals are used to control the pitch of the strings; by changing the setting of a pedal you can cause a whole set of strings to become sharp, natural, or flat.
The marimba - The marimba of modern times ranges between 4 1/3 octaves to a full 5 octaves. Robin plays a 4 1/3 octave marimba. It is 6' 5" in length and stands 3' 2" high. The marimba is played by striking its bars with mallets. Depending on the piece, a performer will use either one mallet in each hand or two (some modern pieces even call for the use of three mallets per hand).
