Editorial Reviews
Lasley hasn't lost his knack for writing and performing timeless and soulful R&B ballads and pop tunes.
Product Description
This CD is the United States release of highly regarded singer/songwriter David Lasley's "Expectations of Love," which was released in the United Kingdom in 2000. The CD features Lasley's unreleased recordings of pop/R&B/smooth jazz songs written by such artists as Philip Bailey, Josh Kadison, Michael Kamen, Kathy Wakefield, Robbie Long, Robin Lerner, Marsha Malamet, Roxanne Seeman and Lasley himself. Musicians include David Benoit, Bobby Watson, Jay Oliver, Marty Walsh and others.
The U.S. release contains the same tracks as the U.K. release, but the CD booklet is different and contains expanded comments by Lasley and additional photos.
"Expectations of Love" has received substantial air play on the radio in the U.K., was well reviewed, and was named Number 10 on Richard Searling's JAZZ FM "Soul Sauce" Top 50 Tracks of 2000. It was also Number 19 on SolarRadio's "Sweet Rhythms" chart in the U.K., which is based on a combination of record sales in specialty shops throughout the U.K. and play lists of DJs who play soul or jazz either in clubs or on the radio.
New York's NEXT MAGAZINE praised the CD by saying, "On "Expectations of Love," his first album of new material in ten years, Lasley hasn't lost his knack for writing and performing timeless and soulful R&B ballads and pop tunes. Standout tracks include "What's It Gonna Take," "Revelations," "Dancin' On The Smooth Edge" (previously covered by Whitney Houston), "Joey (I Believe in Our Love)," and the gorgeous "Love's Forever."

A voice unlike the rest.......2002-11-22
Great Expectations!.......2002-06-01
My favorite songs are "Night of Our Lives," a beautiful ballad, "Change All of That," which has some terrific background vocals and instrumentation, and "Revelations." David wrote many of the songs, but others are written by other artists, like Philip Bailey, Josh Kadison, Jay Oliver and Michael Kamen.
The liner notes include David's tribute to background vocalists, probably the most extensive list of background vocalists in the world. They also have some interesting stories about David's early years as a singer.
I highly recommend this CD!!
Expectations exceeded.......2001-12-10
David also proves himself as a songwriter, co-writing the majority of the tracks.
Stand-out tracks include the funky Revelations, the heartfelt Joey (I Believe In Our Love) and the inspiring hymn-like Change All That.
The album is full of catchy songs with great vocal arrangements.
For beautiful vocal artistry, get this album.
Go on, I'll wait here.
