Phat Phunktion's self-titled debut is a virtual education in groove. A funky 4-piece horn section is powered by one of the tightest rhythm sections around. As if this were not enough, four of these members are accomplished singers. While it is suprising to see a band with a four piece horn section today, the grooves are tight and the writing is fresh.

Phat and Tasty.......2005-08-20

This is a really tight band. Every melody hangs from the driving, super-compressed bass tones that are one of the signatures of this album. The horn section is great, too. In describing their music, I have repeatedly told friends it reminds me of The Tubes mixed with Earth wind and Fire. Such a cool, fresh sound. I can't imagine anyone buying this album and not loving it.

Phat Phunktion's third CD, "Higher," shows the band maturation since Here We Go! This CD highlights the bands diversity of talents in all genres from Hip-Hop to Pop to Funk and R&B music. This band has proven themselves worthy of their refusal to be labeled like anyone. With "Higher," Phat Phunktion prooves its own ground and establishes that they don't sound like anyone...they sound like Phat Phunktion.

From the word go they show that they know how to show the listeners a good time starting with "Untitled (Weekend Special)" straight through to the band's self-proclaimed National Anthem, "Stand Up." In the midst of all the rump shakin' music the band finds the perfect opportunities to slip in their poignant comments on the state of the music industry today with selections like "Rock Star" and "Red Carpet." There are also many thoughtful moments in Phat Phunktion's music as portrayed in the title track, "Higher" and especially in "Always," the band's take on life's inevitable progression.

Make no mistake about it. While the Phat Phunktion's lyrical content sends a universal message the band's true strength is their musicianship. It's not often one gets to hear a great band do it's thing on record. Sure, lot's of bands can tear it up live, but get them in the studio and.... Not so with Phat. Great playing - Great singing - Great songs - Great production. It all adds up to a great time. You will love this CD. I wished I had produced it! MECO - (STAR WARS)

I think this is one of the freshest, in your face funk recordings I have heard. It's like Tower of Power with good lyrics. I can't wait to hear the next one...whenever that may be! Hopefully soon

This band is pretty tight. They seem to have a great overall package, but oh, wait, the songs and the lyrics are lame. This sounds like Tower of Power got together with 'NSYNC and opened a Barenaked Ladies show. If that appeals to you then go nuts.

This is their first CD and they have improved since then. It's still a good CD, though! And they are awesome live!

Phunky, great party tunes.......2002-04-27

This is a great CD to party to, and these guys are even better live! Their tight sound is fantastic. It's too bad the CD doesn't do justice to their live shows.

Give Me a Break!.......2000-02-11

I will start out by saying that these guys are pretty tight, but their songwriting skills are terrible, just check out the song titles. The horn section is very tight and kickin', but lacks a good soloist, any big town will eat them alive. Great drummer, horn section, guitarist, BUT not so hot bass player(stuck in the "80's), lame singers, and terrible songs. They are pretty funky, but they will never hold a candle to any funk great.

If they get some direction with their songwriting, and a new singer, they may be able to create some decent songs.
