Editorial Reviews
Dream Magazine, Summer, 2000
"Like a great old story book from a forgotten or lost lifetime, this is full of wonders and genuine magic."
Product Description
The fifth full-length CD from Mandible Chatter finds the enigmatic duo exploring their Folk and Pop roots. The original idea was to record a "magical folk" record in the tradition of Donovan and the Incredible String Band. But their experimental past crept in, haunting songs like "The Grape Scrubber's Lament" with an eerie ambience. Child-like folk songs sit side by side with straight-out rockers like "Hurricane." Borrowed texts by William Butler Yeats and Eugene Field give way to cryptic lyrics about lizards and trampolines. A dreamy version of the Count Five classic "Psychotic Reaction" is also tossed into the musical melting pot of Marigolds. Mandible Chatter offer fifteen excursions into melody and singular whimsy; a festive but occasionally dark carnival for children of all ages.
