"... it is the sounds of Wilson’s keys that take these songs beyond a traditional reggae sound."

Product Description
Jason Wilson & Tabarruk RELEASE JONAH THE YEAR IS 2000.

Jason Wilson has always acted as sole agent for his supporting cast. His music tempted diva recording artists and grammy winners such as Amanda Marshall, Alanis Morrisette and Alexandra Slate. Messenjah, Willie Williams, Jackie Mittoo, Tony Springer, Devon Martin and England's own Saxon Sound star, Tippa Irie, too, acknowledged this young talent and these world musicians graced the musical and recording stage with Jason as brilliant compliments.

Jason is now offering the role of Visionary. Cast yourself in his vision - make your listening debut with JONAH, certain to be "Record Of This Era".

Michael Virtue of UB-40 has embarked on this journey with Jason to record JONAH as has Alexandra Slate, a Hollywood Records recording artist and Lilith Fair child. Alexandra sings "no soul left to save" in Faithless as they "fly through the air". Music doesn't get any better!

Jason & Tabarruk emerged out of "Dark Corners" ('98 album), riding the sea with JONAH into the belly of the whale, "the belly of hell".

Forgiveness, Hate, New Church. Faithless, Wicked Shall Weep, Reason. Astonishing musically! All Lyrically brilliant!

JONAH will be cast in your heart - not in a category.

Please accept your role as Visionary. Enjoy the bliss you'll experience during this listening phenonenom.

On his third, but first nationally distributed CD, blues-soul-jazzman Smith explores the emotional and sonic landscape of romantic failure with affecting results. Wedding big doses of urban angst to warm melodies, hooky choruses, and disarmingly wistful lyrics, he proves the perfect wallow partner for insomniacs and the recently rejected. But with a bonus: His open-hearted stanzas conjure black angels, a menstruating Virgin Mary, and the reluctant release from earthly things, suggesting if not a nobility through suffering, a spiritual journey through struggle. ("A damaged soul will never stay too long.") Smith makes the most of his modest vocal gifts, singing in a white-boy-wishing-he-were-black tenor, sometimes calling to mind early Steve Winwood ("Killing Time") or Van Morrison circa "Brown Eyed Girl" ("Everything Is New"). He's so charmingly pensive that listeners will pray he gets the girl before record's end, knowing instead he'll trace the cautious bliss of infatuation ("Stay Awhile") to the inevitable numbness of parting ("My Morning Scene"). Guests Garth Hudson, Bill Frisell, and Carrie Rodriguez add texture, color, and consolation. --Alanna Nash

4 out of 5 stars Cool Blue Breeze.......2007-03-16

Heard 'My Morning Scene' on a local indie radio station (it's too good for Clear Channel). As it was not identified, spent several days tracking down artist to find this wonderful album. The aforementioned song reminded me of The Band and brilliant songwriter Malcolm Holcombe - and I got a major kick out of finding Garth Hudson playing on a song and Jonah covering Malcolm's 'Dressed In White'. The CD is an understated joy - wrapped in moody melodicism and thoughtful lyrics. Jonah's voice has real character (despite the lame description by the Amazon reviewer) and his emotional commitment to the songs is palpable.
My only small quibble (and reason for 4 starts) is the sameness of many of the tunes and that the production is flat - plodding, where it needs to push.
That aside, this is a rare gem in a sea of sound-alikes.

While going to see Susan Tedeschi in concert last fall, we were treated to an opening act that we had never heard of. The sound that Jonah Smith put out immediately grabbed our attention (we usually don't pay a great deal of attention to opening acts), and we immediately went to meet him and get some CD's. I bought 3 copies, gave two away and kept one that Jonah autographed for me. Upon listening to the CD, I was highly impressed that the sound that captivated us from the life performance was captured on the CD. The sound is very soulful, with definate influences from The Band and Van Morrison.

As for the CD, this is solid from cover to cover. There is not a single track on this disk that I don't like (which I can rarely say for ANY CD), and the disc keeps finding its way back into my CD player.

5 out of 5 stars Smooth Rootsy Soul.......2006-07-14

This is an album that seems to get better with every play. Definitely better than his first two albums (although they are definitely worth picking up), more polished and tighter musicianship. The songs range from heavy soul to a more americana rootsy vibe. Dont dismiss this at first listen, Jonah has a unique sounding voice that trust me... grows on you with each listen. Well written songs and great music!! Something thats increasingly rare these days. Excellent album, lets hope he gets solid backing so he can make some more!!

5 out of 5 stars Soul.......2006-07-04

Tasteful, rootsy and endlessly soulful, Jonah's third album ranges from vintage, pedal steel-laced Americana to classic, Rhodes-drenched, blue-eyed soul.

on a different note, another reviewer stated that this was his first album. WRONG. this is his third album. Industry Rule (2001) and Beneath the Underdog (2003) are both good albums, but not as good as this one. if you dig this album, try to pick up the other two. jonah just signed with relix records , so you could probly get the other two at their website

    Product Description

With a passion and hunger to reach people who are in the dark world he once inhabited, Vince Lichlyter - lead singer and songwriter of Jonah 33 - puts heavy emotion into his lyrics, which stem from the personal issues he once faced. Not only has he expanded the sound of Jonah 33, but he has also infused THE STRANGEST DAY with fluid musicality and a new found sense of freedom that gives it a cinematic scope. With razor-sharp melodies, unique guitar lines and inventive lyrics Jonah 33 challenges the listener to take a look inside and see their own ache.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Good Stuff.......2006-11-06

This is what I would call a complete CD,the songs are all unique and the singer is above average.(strong voice with range)
The songs on here range from Hard rock to softer ballards.(what more could you ask for?)
A clean sound, clear vocals, deep lyrics, great production, buy this CD and recommended it to everyone.
Suppport these guys because positive music which sounds as good as this is hard to find.

5 out of 5 stars Another awesome one from Jonah 33.......2006-08-27

When I first heard "Faith Like That," the title cut from their debut CD, I knew I had to get the CD and hear the rest. I was not disappointed, so much so that I would be hard-pressed to pick a fav from the debut CD. "Faith" is awesome; "Watching You Die," with its gritty edge, sticks in my head; "All For You" - another killer; and then there's Working Man's Hands, nearly brings me tears. So when the second CD was released, I didn't even hesitate to grab it. Even better than I could have hoped! Every single song is awesome! I love how they have a slight edge, but still seem to show a "mellow-ness" as well. I love every track on this CD! The new Kutless and this latest Jonah are just about all I listen to since I picked them up; I like them both that much. If you liked the first CD, don't hesitate to get this one as well. You won't regret it. Also, check out the latest Kutless - Hearts of the Innocent. Awesome christian rock!

This was the first time I had purchased anything to do with Jonah 33 and I absolutely recommend it .My 18 year old son loves it because they play music the way he likes it and they're standing for God.What a great alternative to hard rock by bands that don't stand for Christ!

5 out of 5 stars Great Group that has earned a listen........2006-03-10

I first heard the song "This is it (You instead of me)" on CMradio.net's modern rock station. I loved it and bought "The Strangest Day" with high expectations. I wasn't dissapointed. Jonah33 has a great sound on the CD and the lyrics great too. Each song is unique. I am impressed with Jonah33 and if you like christian rock or alternative you should listen to this CD. It is worth it!

5 out of 5 stars the NEW Jonah33.......2006-02-08

Most people say that "The Strangest Day" is Jonah33's Sophomore release, yet the way I see it this album is Jonah33's debut.
Respectively Jonah33's self-titled debut (released in 2003) was more of a Vince Lichlyter solo album. Jonah33 consisted of Vince, Joshua Dougan on drums and Pete Eekhoff on bass but if you read the liner notes you will see that Joshua Dougan only performed on two of the albums songs and Pete Eekhoff didn't provide a single note. A total of seven studio musicians provided the music for Jonah33's self-titled album, including producer Skidd Mills and Skillet's John Cooper. But in all honestly I am not complaining, Jonah33's first album is a smashing success it's just that this is not the Jonah33 of today.
The Strangest Day *IS* Jonah33, the sound is completely different from the self-titled album but that's because the band is different. Vince Lichlyter provides the vocals and rhythm guitar, Joshua Dougan provides every beat, and new member Jason Rooney provides the lead guitar work. Jonah33 also has a new bass player, Mr. Cory Riley, and he provides the bass tracks for "search me, know me." Another plus is that the band performs all the background vocals, giving the album a true Jonah33 sound. And I must say that Vince Lichlyter wrote five of the ten songs himself and co-wrote another four songs for this album, drummer Joshua Dougan also co-wrote two of the songs.
The sound of The Strangest Day is Jonah33, and more then likely this is what we can expect on their third album. As for me i'm looking forward to it!

      4 out of 5 stars Different Perspective.......2006-07-13

Vitamin records has been releasing these cd's like wild fires, just spreading orchestral music to the lesser audience of it. This cd will give you the rock music that originally started this who phenomenon (apocalyptica).

This cd is great for anyone interested in hearing the depth of a music genre. Typically when you hear a rock song, you dont hear really how the singer is supposed to influence the musical sense of the songs, but when the singer's role is put into a more balanced/equal role with the rest of the musicians, it contributes so much more to the musicality of the song. It is great for beginner musicians to understand that the singer has to be in tune with the band because he is added depth to the music, not just vocals. College music majors might also get a kick out of this album as it widens your music perspective.

These cds from vitamin really show how rock is the next evolution to classical music, it shows that although lyrics were originally added, the artists used the basic form of classical music to write songs. They all contain a theme that is repeated in the music, and most offer a "waltz" part to the song, as well as a lyrical bridge.

Good cd for every so often to change you from the norm. really neat to switch out the lyrics every so often with some classical music. Enjoy it!

3 out of 5 stars Not Much To Warrant Repeated Listenings.......2005-01-30

Over the past five years, Vitamin Records has released more than fifty of these String Quartet Tribute albums. They have run the gamut from Metallica to Clay Aiken to Alison Krauss to their most recent tribute to 2Pac. This sampler focuses primarily on alternative/heavy metal/grunge artists. So what you get is a collection of songs made famous by Staind ("It's Been Awhile"), Linkin Park ("In the End") and Korn ("Freak on a Leash").

This album (and all of the others) veers awfully close to novelty status. On first listen, it's a real charge to hear teen angst anthems like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" transformed into sedate chamber music. But it doesn't really warrant repeated listenings. The main problem is that after a few songs, they all tend to sound alike. Twenty years ago, the Grammy-winning Kronos Quartet would include a Jimi Hendrix composition in live performances and the occasional recording, but they had the sense to know that this wouldn't work over the course of an entire album.

And the idea of juxtaposing classical instruments with popular music goes back even farther. In the sixties, the Hollyridge Strings released a series of albums performing the works of the Beatles, Elvis and the Beach Boys. Bottom line? This album will force you to hear these songs in a new way and might get a laugh or two if you slip it into the CD player at your next party, but there's little here to make you come back after you've heard it once. But at $6.98, it's an inexpensive gag gift for the alternative music fan in your life. [Running Time - 50:37]

4 out of 5 stars KJ Did Another Good Job.......2006-01-10

First of all, here's a little background on KJ-52:
Jonah, aka KJ-52, although commonly believed, is not a rip-off of Eminem. He recorded his first album (7th Avenue) in 1998, before Eminem even came onto the scene (he speaks of this on his "Ask KJ" podcast from May 23, 2005. You can find it on the iTunes podcast page by searching for "KJ-52" or "KJ52"). I won't get into this here, but let you hear KJ's side of the story.

      As to the album:

Jonah brought back his trademark craziness, as well as his deep and serious material in this album. He did a great job of combining the two, making this an above-average album. I wouldn't call this "the best album ever" in the history of white rappers, but I do believe it is his best work so far. As he says in the back of the insert, this album came from many years of hard work and is the most rewarding for him to date.

Although there are a couple of problems on the disc (such as lyrics not synching perfectly to the beat), they are greatly outweighed by the variation of material on this disc, both lyrically and musically. Jonah included some deep, deep stuff (Life After Death, a more rap-core song), and some more funky stuff (Video Games, throwing in everything from John Madden to Dig Dug), making it a very balanced album.

Overall, I give it 4 Stars. Good job, KJ!

      God bless, y'all.

      5 out of 5 stars AWESOME MOVIE!!.......2007-01-28

As with many kids' films, I've watched this probably 30 times start to finish. They all get old after a while, but this film is so well-done that I find myself admiring the work even when I swear I'm going to shoot myself if I have to watch it again.

Veggie Tales is fantastic at making biblical stories easy to understand, and the animation and adaptation of the story makes it easy for children of all ages to relate to them.

The music on this soundtrack is phenomenal. After the first time I watched this, I bought the CD to play in the car so I could sing along with the movie more quickly!

This was an outstanding piece of work - I hope to see new Veggie Tales movies in the near future!

5 out of 5 stars Forgive me for stating the obvious..........2005-10-19

but this album is SUPERB! The movie was excellent, and the songs are great. The song that runs under the credits is undoubtably the best and truest song ever to come from the mouths of veggies!

      5 out of 5 stars a Fun-filled cd that should be in everyone's stereos.......2003-12-24

This soundtrack is So awesome...i Love it. Each and every song is unique in its own way and it's amusing lyrics are fun to listen and sing along to. All the songs that can be found on this soundtrack is catchy and amazing. Relient K and the Newsboys add their own touch with their fun songs of "The Pirates who Don't Do Anything" and "In the Belly of the Whale". So make sure you get this soundtrack! I guarantee you will enjoy it...if not fall in love with it

5 out of 5 stars You know you're hooked when..........2003-05-17

...when you let the kids listen while driving them to school, and then turning it up louder once they've left. "Pirates", "Billie Joe McGuffrey", and "The Credits Song" are great songs. While the movie score is missable, it doesn't detract from the rest of the album. Very catchy, but yet it doesn't get tiresome.

4 out of 5 stars Fun, But Not Completely Singable.......2003-02-26

Big Idea's first full length movie gets a complete CD all to itself. 7 of the tracks are instrumentals from the movie's score, but the other 12 are songs from the movie.

My biggest complaint is that we get a few half songs. "Bald Bunny" and "Steak and Shrimp" are really more pointless then normal, even for Big Ideas. However, these are off-set by the songs recorded by regular Christian artists.

"Second Chances," straight from the movie and sung by Anointed, is a fun toe taping song. Chris Rice provides all 12 verses for "Billy Joe McGuffrey." Relient K does a wonderful cover of "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything." I'll admit, it too me a couple listens to fully appreciate it, but I love it. Probably my favorite is "In the Belly of the Whale" by Newsboys. It makes me laugh so much.

Of course, there are songs recorded by the "veggies" on here as well. The best song related to the movie is "Jonah was a Prophet." And if you're looking for this movie's version of a silly song, skip to "Credits Song." I was laughing so hard when I first heard it, I had to pull my car to the side of the road.

I'm not usually a fan of soundtrack albums, but I'm certainly glad I bought this one. The songs I've highlighted make it more then worth while.

      5 out of 5 stars Wonderful baritone.......2004-01-01

A very special singer. I second the other reviewers' comments, and add that I have been singing along, as best I can, all morning, to this wonderful CD. An exceptional Largo, by the way, even given the aria's warhorse status.

5 out of 5 stars Magnificent tribute to a truly great artist!.......2000-05-04

This album is an absolute prize. Merrill, to me, was the finest of the American Baritone crop, possessing a rich timbre that is unmatched by todays standards. This CD finds Merrill offering some of his best and most famous renditions, some of which have been regrettably out of print for decades. That being said, this issue is an extremely welcome one indeed. One standout is the rare "Zazà, piccola zingara" from the seldom performed opera Zaza, by Pagliacci composer Ruggiero Leoncavallo. This aria, in this reviewer's opinion, uses that rich sonorous Merrill sound to its best advantage. Merrill once stated in a Met broadcast interview that this one recording (Zaza) was his all time favorite and the best recording of his voice. Other standout arias are, of course, "Largo al Factotum", "O vin dissipe la tristesse" from Hamlet, and the ethereal sounding "Vision Fugitive" from Herodiade. The non-operatice fare that stands out are "The Blind Ploughman" (what a truly heartfelt this performance is), "Drink to Me only with Thine Eyes", and the three spirituals. The recording quality is good overall and acceptable in places. Merrill was truly a great Baritone and this recording is a must for anybody's collection.

      5 out of 5 stars Excellent performances.......1999-12-13

Robert Merrill has for too long been written off as a bad actor with a good voice. What he really was was a bad actor with an EXCEPTIONALLY good voice, and these arias and songs prove it. And not only do these selections show off his wonderful, rich baritone, they also include some great songs and arias which aren't usually recorded. In particular, the "Invictus" of Bruno Huhn, the Toreador Song from Carmen, and the three spirituals are all either unknown or under-recorded, and all receive their due on this album. And, of course, Merrill's signature aria, "Largo al factotum," is wonderful. The only problem I have is with the sound quality of the album, but even that isn't as bad as it could be, and becomes less noticeable after listening to a couple tracks.

If you like Spacetime Continuum's Sea Biscuit you are gonna LOVE this and I am not kidding! Bill Laswell & Jonah Sharp play together like they have been playing for years. Jonah simply astounds me with his ability to create luch soundscapes. This is an ambient record and slightly on the dark side. The synergy between the two is fantastic and I notice that sellers are just giving it away! Subharmonic gets a bad rap because they take chances. HA! Excellent spin!
