About the Artist
The name deep water reflects Symons perception that "for many of us, life is spent in deep water, struggling to keep our heads up," Symons explains.

Symons musical life began when she was a student in Paris, performing in the streets, subways and cafes. She refined her skills as one half of the acoustic duo The Syrens, releasing a CD on November Records. The CD was critically acclaimed, and enjoyed maximum exposure at Album Alternative (Triple A) radio stations nationwide. When the label folded, Symons and the band crisscrossed the country for two years in a broken-down car, enduring 115 degree heat, floods, and ice storms to drive to gigs from Atlanta to Anchorage.

Symons moved to Boston in 1996 to develop deep water, releasing a self-titled debut CD on Ghost Records in 1997. According to Allen Foster of Songwriters Monthly Magazine, "Sarahs new CD was completely recorded in a home studio. However, the album sparkles with that same gusto of radio-friendly, commercial quality you expect to find on an album that had a $75,000 or more production budget!"

deep waters latest CD, "fade to blue," takes an honest, organic approach, which speaks to the hearts of listeners. Featured singles Anybody Alive in There and November exemplify the contrast that defines deep water - poignant subject matter and hopeful, energetic performance.

The live four-piece ensemble features Symons on keyboards and vocals, Tom Patrie on cello, Chris Harris on drums, and Joe Hung on guitar, bass and vocals. A unique aspect of the band is its use of the cello. Patires cello work offers everything from soulful melodic lines to screaming psychedelic solos, adding a touch of evil genius to the project.

Great album. I'm writing from Door County Wisconsin. Each summer Reggie and Madra teach and perform at the Birch Creek Music Academy for High School age students. A performanced center with Concert Wed thru Sat They can be heard with big band.

A great CD to play in the background at parties or just to sit and listen to the wonderful sound of Marda's voice. I love it!

Exquisite Talent.......2001-06-08

During my recent visit home to E. St. Louis, I had the pleasure of listening to this young lady and the group. I feel that everyone on the West Coast will soon buy their "Fade to Blue" CD. This group is contemporary, yet new and refreshing. I will see to it that club owners I know in the Oakland/San Franciso area add it to their jukeboxes. See you guys at one of the Bay Area's Jazz concerts soon I'm sure.
