Greatest Hits? YESSSSSSSSSSSS.......2007-04-16
Maybe it's time to do another greatest hits and call it "More Greatest Hits". Other singers do it. And maybe all of us didn't agree with their first "greatest hit". Hey, you guys out there who do these kinds of things, what's taken so long?
great album.......2007-02-09
Les Paul is not only a great Guitarist he is an inventor of modern recording technology.
Dual track recording and his use of up to eight tracks made him an music industry icon.
Mary Ford's strong clear voice makes this duo complete.
A great Album!
Some Glaring Omissions!.......2005-08-06
While tracks such as "Mockin' Bird Hill", "The World is Waiting for the Sunrise", and "Vaya Con Dios" among the duo's best loved and best known songs, I find the omission of "How High the Moon", one the their biggest hits, to be unforgiveable. Equally astonishing is why "Dry My Tears", the theme song of Les & Mary's 50s radio show, and "Cryin'", arguably the best song Mary Ford has ever sung, were excluded. I would much rather have had those tracks included in the disc than the cover version of Patti Page's "Tennessee Waltz", and the ersatz "Meet Mr. Callaghan". It's also hard to understand why the only Les Paul solo instrumental track on this disc is "Bye Bye Blues". "Lover", the song that propelled Les into the spotlight, and "Nola", a song that enjoyed worldwide popularity, were inexplicably left out.
While this is a decent collection of the work of Les Paul and Mary Ford, it is definitely NOT their all time greatest hits. The record label ought to be sued for false advertising.

The Hannah Montana special edition soundtrack arrives so coolly p ackaged and with such a bonanza of extras that it might even induce budget-conscious tweens who already own the original to break open their piggy banks a second time. All the same hyper-charged, deliriously fun songs are here--the Radio Disney hit "If We Were a Movie" and the speaker-hazardous "Pumpin' up the Party" included--but so is a new number, "Nobody's Perfect," that again reaches out with a message from Miley Cyrus, a.k.a. Hannah, without mitigating the sky-high mood. Toe-tapping, indeed, is mandatory. Throughout. Other deluxe-edition tack-ons include signed snaps of the double-life-leading superstar, a certificate for a free "This Is the Life" ringtone, and a starter course of celebrity dish: in addition to a concert sliver featuring "Nobody's Perfect" on disc two (the DVD), Miss Cyrus leads her breathless fans on chummy, if minimally revealing, backstage tour. --Tammy La Gorce Hannah Montana Photos

Customer Reviews:
At last, oldies but goodies you're not sick of the second time around..........2007-01-26
The great songs on this CD include Toussaint McCall's heartrending ballad "Nothing Takes The Place Of You." Toussaint McCall sings this beautifully and the musical arrangement enhances the beauty of this number. Jan Bradley performs "Mama Didn't Lie" which is another excellent song. Jan sings about protecting her heart from boys who don't want to give her true love. "Foot Stompin'" boasts an infectious beat by The Flares as they sing about dancing to what was once known as "race" music. Excellent!
"You'll Lose A Good Thing" is a very romantic ballad by Barbara Lynn. In this song Barbara reminds her man to treat her well.
One of very favorite numbers on this album is Gene Pitney's "Town Without Pity." Gene delivers this song very well; his voice is strong and energetic. The musical arrangement will stun you, too. Another excellent song is "The Madison Time" by The Ray Bryant Combo. "The Madison Time" is essentially a great instrumental number with a man telling dancers on the dance floor which steps to take. The arrangement is slick, $exy and very catchy, too.
Despite the fact that this CD boasts a fine collection of obscure oldies, the song "Hairspray" was written for the 1988 movie. "Hairspray" represents camp at its best and you will enjoy this number even if it isn't an oldie.
Other great songs on this CD include "I'm Blue (The Gong-Gong Song);" "Shake A Tail Feather" and "The Roach (Dance)."
Some reviewers write that they wish that this CD included more music from the motion picture soundtrack. They are right. I considered making this a four star review for that reason but I concluded that the strength of this CD as it stands merits a five star review. The songs here are just so good I said "Aw, heck" to myself and so I gave it five stars anyway.
The liner notes give the songs credits and John Waters adds a brief essay about the songs on this CD. The graphics are excellent.
Overall, this CD offers a rare opportunity to hear many obscure but wonderful oldies that deserve more play time than they ever will receive. The quality of the sound is excellent even on my portable CD player. Fans of the oldies or movie soundtracks will love this album. May you enjoy this album as much as I have!
Best Song Missing.......2006-10-12
When the LP was first released, I picked up a copy and was also disappointed not to find the remaining songs from the movie.
For years I had been collecting the songs that brought my best memories
of my youth. Here was a chance to add a few of the rarer ones.
Since then, I've been able to complete my own collection of the tunes of Hairspray. And yes, "Hide And Go Seek" was my number one priority.
I found it on 2 different CD's. "The Golden Age Of American Rock 'n' Roll Vol. 6" on Ace and the ultra-rare, "Do You Remember? 30 Original Golden Oldies" on Mr. Maestro.
Luckily, though, "The Roach", "Footstompin'", "Mama Didn't Lie" and "Nothing Takes The Place Of You" are included in the Hairspray LP/CD, which are very much repsonsible for its 4* rating.
The only so-called weak tunes on this recording are the title track, "Hairspray" and "I Wish I Were A Princess".

sick re-issue but yet 1 flaw.......2007-07-28
Raw & eccentric Hip-Hop at its best.......2007-07-25
Flawless Doom ..........2007-07-24
The album begins with 'Beef Rapp', which is a half instrumental/sampled song until he finally decides to start rapping two minutes into it. In this particular song his scruffy voice compliments the heavy and loud superhero sounding beat. His lyrics are impressive: ""Heart attack, heart disease ... ain't no holding back once arteries start to squeeze." 'Hoe Cakes' uses a spit sounding beat with a female sample saying "Super" throughout the chorus - interesting mix. 'Potholderz,' featuring Count Bass D, is a decent song with an average beat ... however Doom really begins to shine in 'One Beer' and 'Deep Fried Frenz.' Both of these songs show his quick and witty delivery and interesting lyrics. Unfortunately, both of these songs have annoying beats that make it rather difficult to listen to. 'Poo Putt Platter' through 'Fig Leaf' are all instrumentals, however it's worth the waiting because Doom shows up in tip top form for the remainder of the album. 'Kon Kane' makes a departure from the annoying beats mentioned previously by introducing a quick piano melody with what sounds like Space Invaders taser blasts. 'Guinnesses' features Angelika and 4ize, and this song is one of the best tracks on the album. It's a unique and addicting Rockabilly beat, all delivered by Angelika. Doom is only present during the chorus where he relates "War wounds, morphine, and veterans" to marrying and trying to tame a female! "Some chicks are just too hard to wife!" In 'Kon Queso' Doom picks a perfect match of beat, melody, and lyrics. It is a really quick pulsating beat with exceptional lyrics. "When it rain it sure do thunderstorm / I got more rhymes in the summer than musty underarms." He really shines; and it continues to get better. After 'Rapp Snitch,' a cheesy filler song, Doom continues to blow the album up with 'Vomitspit.' Not only does this song sport a crazy beat, his lyrics don't get any better. "The mask is like Jason / They told the place not to let the basket type case in / He could be some kind of wacko / Waiting for the chance to heat the pipes like a crack hoe." And finally, the last song caps off a great album. 'Kookies' has a beat that you just want to row your windows down and cruise to. This song is an interesting one in which Doom refers to trying to track down females online to his cookie consumption habits over a brass sounding beat. "Catch sugar fits every time he sees a nice pair of / Chips ahoy double chocolate chunk / Something with the bubble and the junk in the trunk"
Overall, the album is great. It took me a few times through to really apprecaite how well thought the album is. It truly grows on you. I find it interesting how he relates different stuff to food. There are quite a few songs that are just samples on the album; in fact, almost every song has samples and cartoons mixed towards the end. This frustrates some people, however it mostly all tells a story - why he wears his mask. This doesn't take away from the album in any form or fashion.
"I elect Doom master of the Universe!"

Our Love To Admire is at once unmistakably Interpol and undeniably new. The witty and perverse "No I In Threesome" is an upbeat ode to shaking up a staid relationship propelled by Carlos D's peerless bass melody while the tenderly observant "Pace Is the Trick" proves that the band are still the masters of the dramatic - check the painful pause right before the sinfully satisfying return of Sam's thundering drums and Daniel's ringing lead guitar. The band's impressively seductive evolution is obvious all over the record, but never more so than on tracks like "Mammoth," "Who Do You Think" and on the album's lyrical centerpiece, the ghostly "Rest My Chemistry." While Daniel is understandably proud of the song he cautions against reading too much autobiography into its lyrics. "We always leave the interpretation to the listener," he says. "I mean, you shouldn't watch a movie for the first time listening to the director's commentary!"Our Love to Admire closes with "The Lighthouse," a funereal dirge that is among the most unexpected and memorable songs ever recorded by the band. Almost entirely percussion-free, the song is constructed around Daniel's mournful guitar and Paul's sparten lyrics. Not only is it one of their finest moments to date, it provides the album's most goose-bump inducing moment, the very same reflex shivers that make Interpol live shows such an exhilarating experience. As the very last song the band recorded for the album it was, they say, the hardest to play. The hypnotic guitar part was played on a 50-year-old guitar that had toxins on the strings, providing Daniel with a blistering and painful sensation in his fingers. The band weren't even sure the track would make it out of the studio, but once they heard Paul's remarkable vocals they were floored. The song - and the album - doesn't so much end as it bleeds to a close with a long, echoey coda filled with feedback and strin! gs. A fittingly dramatic end to a stunning and emotional journey. Interpol is back, every bit as good as before but charged with a new spirit, a new direction, a new label and, most of all, a new confidence.

A bound, CD-sized hard covered book with 24-page booklet. CD in back and poster.

Instant Classic.......2007-07-18
The vocals are emotive and serve as the vocal point for each song. The bass sound is full, yet throaty. The guitars are upfront, with a nice use of texture.
"No I In Threesome" is a personal favorite, complete with the title line in an unexpected place. "Heinrich" is an excellent choice for radio play. Other stand out tracks include "All Fired Up" (with some very active guitar lines), "My Chemistry" (actually some of the best Interpol lyrics ever are present on this song", and "Wrecking Ball"
I can't wait to see them on their upcoming tour.
Cementing their sound a little bit further... get the normal copy this special edition is not worth it!.......2007-07-18
I bought it thinking it was going to be unique, only to find as I pulled off the wrapping that i managed to tear a small part of the paper cover album! Not only that, but when I opened the booklet up the cd managed to fall out (also comes in a slip) and get slightly scratched (not bad enough that i couldnt listen to it) and the poster, apart from being folded up way too many times is also a pain to try and get back into its original sleeve.
Plus it costs a lot more then the normal version. Just buy that one!
The album:
Apart from being over joyed at the thought of a new interpol album, I have to say that I didnt really find that much of a difference in the writing style to antics. I feel however, the difference between turn down your bright lights and antics is quite easy to spot.
I find there is some starking difference to the overall feel of the album. Almost like the recording was more refined, less analoge and more of a digital perfect stream of sounds involved ( I will refer back to antics for a better listen) but I like it!
This album provides quite a mellow feel to it, really easy to listen to and as an interpol fan, you can only help and appriciate that this band is finding its sound. This album is evidence of that.
I dont know if this will be as big a hit as Antics was with "Evil" but "the Henrich Manuver" and "All fired up" may prove otherwise.
A good Interpol album. Not as innovative as people seem desperate to find between albums but if you are a fan of the interpol/joy division sound from previous experiances (albums) then this one is for you.
It's a different kind of Interpol.......2007-07-17
Been Waiting a long time for this album!.......2007-07-14
this is on the so called "special package".......2007-07-12
on the new songs, they are pretty good, some classics already
my beef is with the special package, the booklet is essentially on different paper (thicker non shiny) but it's the same as the regular cd
the poster pictured is a masterful foldout poster folded so many times, think of a regular size cd insert with dimensions 4 x 5.. that's a lot of folds
the poster art is not too bad
i guess i was hoping for some pictures of the band, ok i will stop hating now, just make sure u buy the regular cd
save your money, buy the regular one instead

There is an excellent advantage to owning a Bobby Valentino disc and it is this: no matter how many other discs you've shuffled it with, you will never get confused as to who it is you're listening to, because Bobby V.--V. Tino, if you will--name-checks himself consistently throughout every track. Special Occasion is no exception, but it also earns its keep by way of solid, sexed-up R&B. When the limber-voiced ladies' man isn't strutting his stuff à la the dancefloor-ready "Checking for Me," a full-on stomper about a lady who likes to pretend she doesn't have an eye out for Bobby V., he's pleading his case to a lover in dire need of reassurance ("Turn The Page," "Home is Where You Belong," "Soon As I Get Home"). What binds these tracks is a hard-bitten refusal to skimp on the passion; no matter how quick the tempo or quirky the beat ("Tired of Being Alone" is especially exotic), Valentino delivers with all the fire he can muster. He also has a flair for recalling his mentors without being derivative--check out his Jeffrey Osborne moment on "If I had My Way." --Tammy La GorceCustomer Reviews:

Another Gary Puckett Greatest Hits?.......2005-08-02
The "stuff" on this CD includes "To Love Somebody" by the Bee Gees. Gary Puckett's voice is an excellent match for this cover of the Bee Gees' classic. There is a cover of "Kentucky Woman" by Neil Diamond in this collection. I know the remaining songs, "Let's Give Adam and Eve Another Chance," "Could I," and "Daylight Stranger" have all appeared on other Gary Puckett collections.
Gary Puckett has an excellent, mellow voice. When his voice matches the material the result is outstanding. However, there are a lot of Gary Puckett collections that exist, and this one is very short, under a half hour. If you are only interested in the top 40 hits, nearly any of these collections (including this one) will give you those. Then you have to decide which of the other songs on the collection you want as well.
My rating is not so much for the material on this collection, which is okay, but for the fact that there are better collections available and it seems as though Gary Puckett has been repackaged too many times with the same core material. The numerous collections should be pared down to a couple. One collection should have half dozen songs or so and the other collection could be like "A Golden Classics Collection," which has an incredible 27 songs. Choose wisely!

Customer Reviews:
Hey not "98.6" but worth owning!.......2007-06-24
It is inexcusable that the powers that be behind the CD release of "One Hit Wonders" could take a 5 Star idea and turn it into ***.
The first and not as egregious as the second error is the total playing time. With a myriad of great tunes left off the release they could have given 12-14 tracks. To think a CD holds 80 minutes and not even half is full!
As two other fine reviews stated previously (M.Doane and Jonathan Schult) the legendary "One Tin Soldier (The Legend Of Billy Jack)" by Coven is not the version the listener is in tune with. It is both misleading and disgraceful.
This sort of thing was taken one step further frequently in Europe in the late 1960's and early 1970's by offering discount compilation of hits but the original recordings were not used. Hired studio musicians performed the tunes!
The majority of news here is good. "Reflections Of My Life - The Marmalade" is one of the finest and most intense lyrical compositions ever. You could make a case that as long as its contents are found here anything else is gravy.
"Come On Down To My Boat" - Every Mother's Son reminds us older folks of the great summers past. The first note takes you back to a simpler world. We didn't have the internet or even calculators but we did have some amazing rock and roll radio.
"98.6" - Keith may be the most underrated tune on the CD. Although simplistic in its arrangement, something sticks in the brain from the initial listening.
"Monster Mash" - Bobby Pickett is a staple of every Halloween. People were laughing then and still are now, but we are still enjoying the song.
Ten solid tracks and only a couple of gripes. Not bad.
Enjoy the music and be well,
Craig Fenton

ORIGINAL CASTE's .......2006-08-06
At first, they released two singles through DOT records, with little success. In 1969,they signed contract with the T.A. Records division of Bell Records. The single "ONE TIN SOLDIER"[composed by Lambert/Potter] and the album of same title were released. It has become a highly coveted collector's item.
They were produced by Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter who became the celebrated lead songwriters/producers at Dunhill Records as they churned out hit after charting hit with various recording artists in the late 60's and throughout the first half of the 70's decade. The ORIGINAL CASTE's group leader, Bruce composed several excellent and fully loaded pop songs found on their debut album.
Title song "One Tin Soldier"[Bell/TA-186] was more popular in U.S.A.(No.34/Billboard Chart; 1969)than their next single "Mr. Monday", yet, both hit #1 in their native Canada and Japan, respectively. Many cover versions of "One Tin Soldier" had been issued subsequently. Especially, Coven made this tune appear to the US charts four times and it was used for the Original Sound Track of the Warner's Movie named "Billy Jack". The music director of this movie's soundtrack wanted to use the original version by THE ORIGINAL CASTE, but the episode was that The Coven, signed band of The Warner Records, was in haste chosen because of the movie and record company's relationship.
Bruce, Dixie & The ORIGINAL CASTE's recording era/career continued in various forms as a group and solo[Dixie]recordings for about eight years[1968-74]and the final album "Back Home"[issued 1974] was left after their original member's group were dissolved in 1972. Dixie & Bruce continued to tour with various new members until 1980.
Dixie Lee lives in British Columbia, state of Canada. Bruce resides in Sun Valley, Idaho, and keeps his music career alive by playing his inspiring folk music in local concerts, issuing his independent label recordings and also tours with an all new line up of THE ORIGINAL CASTE, circa 2005. In 2000 he discovered singer Cheryl Morrell, which led to reforming The Original Caste along with long time Original Caste bandmate Gary Carlson.
A Japanese Import reissue Cd of the ORIGINAL CASTE's first album, "ONE TIN SOLDIER", is available at www.amazon.com - I hope this finally clears up all the confusion.
