Bacharach! The Instrumental Side

The late-1990s rediscovery and reevaluation of Burt Bacharach as a pop-culture icon has resulted in a dramatic increase in Burt-themed albums--surely more than our humble planet can bear. Sure, he was on top form again when teaming up with Elvis Costello on Painted from Memory, and appearing in both Austin Powers films did wonders for his popularity (and the crucial "recognition among under-25s" factor). But an entire album of instrumental Bacharach? Burt himself would probably agree that he did his best work with a lyricist (Hal David, Elvis Costello) and his songs have become standards in any number of singers' personal repertoires (Tom Jones and Dionne Warwick). Without the lyrics they sound, well, like Muzak. That's not to say that guitar and flute-led renditions of "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" and "The Look of Love" are not without their charms. However, one can't help but hear the faint clattering of shopping carts in the background. --Robert Burrow

La verdad que este album me parece algo falto de instrumentacion por lo que creo que pudo ser mejor

Amazon has incorrectly attributed this album to Bacharach. He did not produce, arrange or perform any selection of this disaster. I would ask for my money back except that I have a "Worst of Burt" collection with a No. 1 spot waiting for Grant Geissman, the true guilty party behind this crime. Move over, "Connie Francis Sings Bacharach".

I can not remember a time when I've heard such a bad album. Usually a Bacharach fan, his music is not complete without the sweet sound of his voice - for instance, one of my favorite songs is his rendition of "Don't Go Breaking My Heart." Now why he decided to make an instrumental album is beyond me, and obviously beyond his musical capacity. If Dante knew of this album, he would have created a 666th level of the "Inferno," for which the patrons of that level would writhe in pain, listening to nothing but this Bacharach attempt at instrumental music.
