A Hundred Miles or More carries the subtitle A Collection, and what a curious collection it is--cuts from soundtracks, side projects, and tribute albums, plus guest duets on other artists' albums and five previously unreleased tracks. In other words, this is a collection of Alison Krauss performances that have never appeared on an Alison Krauss album, though it holds together better than such a grab-bag approach might suggest. Highlights such as her duet with Brad Paisley on "Whiskey Lullaby" and her a cappella rendition of "Down to the River to Pray" from O Brother, Where Art Thou? will be familiar to most Krauss fans, though it's doubtful that many share her infatuation with retro rocker John Waite (with whom she revives his "Missing You" and duets on a cover of Don Williams's "Lay Down Beside Me."). Other projects represented range from Disney to the Chieftains to the Louvin Brothers (she duets with James Taylor on their "How's the World Treating You." There's minimal contribution from her Union Station band--making this a solo release by default--and little information to indicate whether the previously unreleased tracks were outtakes from earlier releases or recently recorded for this one. --Don McLeese More Alison Krauss

Album Description
"A Hundred Miles or More: A Collection" is comprised of 16 tracks, highlighting Alison Krauss's career outside of her traditional releases with longtime band Union Station. The album features Krauss's collaboration with John Waite on the single "Missing You," as well as Krauss's contributions to film soundtracks, including the Oscar-nominated songs "The Scarlet Tide" and "You Will Be My Ain True Love," written for the motion picture "Cold Mountain," and "Down to the River to Pray" from the film "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" Known for her collaborations, Krauss also includes several duets in the collection such as the 2003 hit with Brad Paisley, "Whiskey Lullaby," and her duet with James Taylor for the tribute album "Livin', Lovin', Losin': Songs of the Louvin Brothers," "How's the World Treating You." The collection debuts five new songs: "You're Just a Country Boy," "Jacob's Dream," "Simple Love," "Lay Down Beside Me," and "Away Down the River," all of which feature Krauss as a producer.Customer Reviews:

You'd think there wouldn't be much more to present by a songwriter who recorded three albums in his lifetime and has been dead since 1974. However, interest in Nick Drake's riveting music has grown enormously in the new millennium. Rarities were added to a number of posthumous collections, but with Family Tree his estate has brought forth an hour of music that predates his first album, Five Leaves Left. This set illuminates Drake's musical background, with his mother and sister appearing, and even Drake himself on clarinet for a Mozart trio. He covers traditional numbers as well as songs by Dylan, Blind Boy Fuller, and Jackson C. Frank. There are clear links to his own early compositions, including a couple early versions that appeared on his debut. Some of this has circulated on bootlegs over the years, but here assembled and sonically polished, it radiates with warmth. Recorded in casual circumstances, there are bits of chatter and laughter between songs, painting a picture of a happy, loving home scene. --David GreenbergerCustomer Reviews:
fans will love this.......2007-07-26
Music obviously ran in the Drake family, and it's difficult to listen to the CD without feeling that you are in the Drake living room yourself. Although I found Family Tree to be a fascinating look inside the Drake household, I would only recommend it for die hard Nick Drake fans, and would recommend newcomers to start with Bryter Layter or Pink Moon.
Family Tree.......2007-07-26
This is a recopilation of Drake's first recordings in his home and a friend house, the quality is no the best but I guaranty that you forget about that becuse of his powerfull and full of soul voice, there are some tracks of his mother singing that gives you an idea to where he got his musical liking and also a duet of him and his sister
The packages is a soft one with a large booklet with writings of his sister and friends, it's rather moving and it also has some pictures of the family.
So if you want to know more about Nick Drake I recomend this album becuse it has, even then when he was starting, a lot of fealing and something that good voices of today fail to have and that's heart.
I am not an old person talking, I have 24 and I recomend this to you hopping that Drake's magic remains live for a long time, this is ageless.
Come Into The Garden.......2007-07-14
One of the most prized recordings in my collection has long been the Nick Drake bootleg, Tamworth-In-Arden 1967/68. I usually avoid buying boots, but couldn't resist the plethora of completely unheard/unreleased songs. Now, most of that material has been lovingly compiled (with a few surprises, as well as omissions) & cleaned up considerably in terms of the sound quality. Half of the songs are written by Drake & half are rather obscure covers, including 3 songs by the legendary Jackson C. Frank. Fans of Drake will hardly be disappointed.
Among the self-penned selections, the real highlights are the haunting "Leaving Me Behind" and "Come Into The Garden". "Rain" and "Bird Flew By" reveal a talent that is nearly fully formed. "Strange Meeting II" & "Been Smoking Too Long" were included on the Fruit Tree box set appendix, Time Of No Reply. Both are welcome here. (According to the liner notes that collection is soon to be re-released).
More than likely, fans will not be as thrilled with the two songs, written & sung by Nick's mother, Molly. But to be frank, I like them both even if they are a bit jarring amidst the rest of the set. Its nice to hear where Nick got some of his talent from.
Lovingly compiled & with copious liner notes (Nick's sister, Gabrielle's are quite moving) this is certainly worth the price of admission for longtime & new found fans of this brilliant and truely unique artist.

Those who spent (or are spending) their formative years watching Kermit and Miss Piggy dance their special interspecies dance will revel in this spectacular, positively historic new Muppets CD, released just in time for the 25th anniversary of Jim Henson's The Muppet Show. A 20-page insert booklet, complete with color photos, details the fascinating history of Muppet music. Remember when Sesame Street's rendition of Jeff Moss's "Rubber Duckie" hit the kiddie pop charts? This 27-song CD harvests favorite and lesser-known recordings from feature films and from the original The Muppet Show, stringing songs ranging from Piero Umiliani's "Mahna Mahna" to Tony Burrello's "There's a New Sound" (the sound that's made by worms) together with skits and grand pronouncements and goofy sound effects like an old-time vaudeville show. A stunning variety of musical styles are showcased in this witty, wonderful collection that reminds us that a world without Fozzie Bear and Gonzo and Kermit and Miss Piggy would be less fuzzy indeed. --Karin SnelsonCustomer Reviews:

Wonderful Music for a dreary day!.......2007-06-12
Though some of the included tracks could have been left out simply because they aren't technically songs, they are all fun and deserve the time they are alotted.
I put this in my player whenever I feel down and it always brings a smile to my face and by the time it's gotten to "Rainbow Connection" I'm singing along at the top of my lungs!
Highly recommended for anyone that loves the Muppets, both old and new!
Not a catch-all, but a nice compilation.......2007-05-15
Kermit's "Bein' Green" is one of my favorites, as it's sung in a very heartfelt manner. The big ones from the Muppet Movie, like "Rainbow Connection" and "Movin' Right Along", are also here. I particularly like the "Monologue with Fozzie Bear" track, as it is very indicative of the intelligent silliness that the Muppets were known for in their shows and movies. There are also a couple of Statler & Waldorf monologues hidden after a couple of tracks that aren't labelled on the CD, so listen to the tracks in their entirety or you could miss them. And, of course, "Mahna Mahna" is a classic that I only recognized from commercials (primarily because of my age) but is one of those catchy ditties that will easily become stuck in your head for a week to follow after hearing it.
Highly recommended for the fan who has no Muppet music in their collection and wants a nice summary of the classics on one CD.

If you haven't seen the movie, then I suggest seeing it before geting the music because there are pars of the album (CD's) that don't seem to make as much sense if you haven't seen the movie. But since the CD's are practically taken verbatim from the movie you can visit the movie in you mind any time you play the CD's.
Some time back I heard some conservative talk show host ask, "So what was the big deal about Woodstock anyway? A bunch of kids getting drunk, stoned, and listening to music together? Hell! We did that in our Frat house and never found it to be too special." What made Woodstock so enduring was that it showcased what was the essence of the Hippie movement at the time. For the most part it showed that it was possible to have a huge crowd of people get together for a few days and remain civil towards one and other...Regardless of the weather conditions. It almost made us believe that peaceful existance em mass was possible......Of course this was shown to be somewhat a fluke because both concerts and peace marches after Woodstock turned out to have some of the wors violence...Such as the Stones concert at Candle Stick Park. But the idea of Woodstock was at least hopeful for a time, and gave hose of us who were involved in the Hippie movement something to be proud of.
One last thing. I do have the DVD set too. As I said it is kind of funny to think of Woodstock as an "Oldie." When I watched the DVD and listened to some of the interviews with kids who were my age at the time I remember thinking how right on the money they were when I saw the movie as a kid....As an older adult I have to laugh at how much we thought we understood of the world and how little we actually did. That was something no one could convince us of when we were teens with all the answers.
How ironic!!!.......2006-08-18

While the idea of infusing a weekly TV series with a Broadway musical ethos isn't exactly a new one--think Randy Newman's ambitious Cop Rock--it became something of a turn-of the-century television mini-trend. But few have reached as far--or succeeded--like this November 2001 episode of Fox Network's Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Penned by series creator-producer Joss Whedon and performed by Sarah Michelle Gellar and cast, it's a loving, loopy musical pastiche that takes potshots at everything from Andrew Lloyd Webber to alt-rock. Paralleling the show's lovable pop culture tweaking, the musical styles here (the episode's musical conceit is a curse visited upon Buffy's hometown of Sunnydale) range from a patent footlight chorus of demons being interrupted by Gellar's hard-rocking stake thrusts on "Going Through the Motions" to Spike the Vampire's goth-metal complaint "Rest in Peace," with everything from parking tickets and mustard stain removal to climactic duels with the supernatural getting the Broadway send-up. Also includes strong orchestral score-suites from three other episodes, as well as Whedon and wife Kai Cole's demo for "Something to Sing About." --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
Defeintly worth listening to!.......2007-07-21
Rest in Peace- spike sings here apparently hes got a awesome voice theres a pull to this song and its just fun to listen to you hear his passion for Buffy!
Dawns Lament-Dawn has a sweet high voice but not a lot of singing parts I really liked this cause it showed her vocal maturity! It also shows her doubt in the love from her friends!
What you Feel- Wow very jazzy and upbeat. The dancing demons voice is deep it sounds good you get to hear dawn again!
Standing- Giles and Tara sing its very emotional (i don't like Giles voice as much as Taras voice)
Under your spell (reprise)- You get to hear Tara's voice she has some range in this song thats nice. She also has a very good lyrics!
Where do we go from Here- the end of the battle this song is sung you hear everyone in this song. Its got a melcoly underbeat but its kind of sad and nostalgic as well as got the feeling of not being defeated! Its a good song!
I wish for a CD of suites.......2007-07-08
I think this is probably only good for fans of the show. I can't see some random person who has no previous love of the episode wanting these songs. They aren't of high quality. They're simply enjoyable for those who love the episode and want the option to sing along and have fun to it. It's a great CD - for some people.
But then you hit the end. Three spectacular tracks that, if you ask me, are what make this CD actually worth it. In addition to the songs from "Once More with Feeling", we get three scores.
The first suite is from another great episode: "Restless". Here, each theme comes out solidly. "Willow's Nightmare" is a creepy, confusing, sort of Middle-Eastern piece with a very nice feel to it, all taken straight from the episode, bringing to mind the wonderful images. The rest of the suite brings together creepy, intriguing singing and lovely sounds that end with the images fresh on your mind. The very ending is perfect - you can almost hear the words from the episode hiding behind the music, barely spoken and breathed aloud. "You think you know. What's to come. What you are. You haven't even begun." A perfect atmosphere and beautiful music with it.
Next, we're presented with a suite from the incredible episode "Hush". Each moment brings to mind matching scenes from the episode. There is the perfect air of mystery, fear, and that eerie sense of something creepy about to happen. There's the sort of choir-like moment, blending into the lovely, romantic "First kiss" part, and ending on a wholly creepy and terrifyingly wonderful note. A superb episode has this excellent score to add to its wonder.
Finally, we're presented with the incredible "Sacrifice", from the episode "The Gift". This is the direct piece used in that incredible episode and it's impossible to listen to it without feeling your heart move. If there was ever a better piece to put on a CD of Buffy music, this is it. You can see everything that happens, and it's just so perfect and complete you can almost cry. The whole piece is just bound to give you chills and bring back those wonderfully painful memories from the episode.
Honestly, while I do love "Once More with Feeling" and the great, fun songs it has, I find that I play the orchestral pieces here much more often than the others. It's those pieces that invoke the great memories and bring tears to my eyes. They're inexplicably powerful in a way that only one song of the musical can match ("Under Your Spell/Standing (Reprise)", without a doubt one of the best songs of the musical). The songs you can get in the episode. The suites are less accessable. I'd opt to buy this just for that.
In summary: No, this isn't spectacular. It's not of extremely high quality. But it's fun and any Buffy fan can appreciate it. Overall, it's great to sing along to, and the scores and suites are a HUGE bonus. Certainly recommended to all fans of the show, but perhaps not to others who can't quite understand all of the jokes and humor.
But I still wish for some more suites...

80's nostalgia.......2007-06-11
Songs like WALK LIKE AN EGYPTIAN (the Bangles), WALKING ON SUNSHINE (Katrina and the Waves), HEAVEN IS A PLACE ON EARTH (Belinda Carlisle) and I KNOW THERE'S SOMETHING GOING ON (Frida) are almost pure nostalgia straight-from-the-bottle.
For me, the 2 best songs are MANEATER (Hall & Oates) and HANDS TO HEAVEN (Breathe). MANEATER is the best song Hall & Oates ever wrote, and it also describes quite a few sadistic women I've met in my life. HANDS TO HEAVEN takes me back to the first time I heard it. It was in boot camp & was the first time they allowed us to listen to the radio. For a few brief moments I was able to in my mind get away from the United States Navy!
I've never cared for Huey Lewis & The News, but POWER OF LOVE is their best song & the song they're most known for. I like Pat Benatar, but never thought LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD was one of her best songs. I would have much preferred SHADOWS OF THE NIGHT, but that's just my opinion.
The biggest gaffe on the album in my mind is Falco's ROCK ME AMADEUS. I never cared for it, even though I'm a big fan of classical music (including Mozart!). Never seemed there was much substance to it, and it's little wonder that Falco was basically a 1-hit wonder.
All-in-all, however, the majority of the songs on this album fit nicely for everyone who went to High School during the 80s. If you graduated from HS in 1980-something, give this CD a try!

The first one is the 4 munites and 4 seconds edit of "I Know There's Something Going On" which is now only available on Frida's album "Something's Going On" as bonus track.
The second song is Tears For Fears "Shout" that clocks at 4 minutes and 6 seconds which again is only available on the latest DELUXE re-issue of "Songs From The Big Chair".
The third and last song is Falco's rare "Canadian Version" (4 minutes and 8 seconds) which is an edit to the 8 minutes and 21 seconds of "Salieri Version" that was released on the US version CD of "Falco 3" by A&M records in 1985. However, I noticed many of you are trying to locate this song without paying big $$$ for the long deleted Falco 3 CD and you can only find it on 2 CDs, one of them is Falco 'Hit Singles' released by Warner in 1998 again now it's out-of-print (try Amazon Germany for a cheaper second hand) and the other one titled "I love Techno Pop vol.2" which is still in print only in Spain and by the way an awesome compilation of 12inch hits, you can find it and buy it at Blanco Y Negro official website.
Anyway, a must for hardcore fan of the 80's.

Highlight versions of cast recordings are by definition a compromise, and this reduction of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera is no exception. Weighing in at 59 minutes, it's over 40 minutes shorter than the two-disc version, excising many musical scenes that convey the flow and impact of the show (which include, admittedly, a lot of patter and screaming). On the other hand, all the hits are here--"Think of Me," "Angel of Music," the title tune, "The Music of the Night," "All I Ask of You," "Masquerade," and "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again"--and Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman are still on hand to make their distinctive contributions to the original London cast. So if you're looking for a convenient, inexpensive single disc that will let you enjoy Lloyd Webber's scrumptious melodies without having to immerse yourself in the action, this just might be for you. --David HoriuchiCustomer Reviews:

1)It has the original Broadway cast, the best.
2)It cuts out the more risqu? parts of the show (believe me, there are some), making it "appropriate for the whole family."
3)The entire CD is on one disc, so you can go through the show w/o switching discs.
4)The only song that the movie soundtrack has on it that this doesn't is "Learn to Be Lonely," which appears in the credits, and isn't really a great song anyways.

Disappointing.......2007-05-26
Unfortunately I was terribly disappointed to discover that the version presented here is a very short 2 minute and 55 second version, without the introductory chant. Luckily the version of Miriam Makeba's "Pata Pata" presented here was also one I wanted for my collection, but that's a lot to pay for one song.
As for the other sings on the disk- a few are winner, most are forgettable, and one- "Papa Joe's"- was incredibly annoying when I originally heard it on the radio, and time has not changed my opinion!

Are they alternative-country rockers or alternative rock crooners? That was the conundrum following Rilo Kiley's 2002 release, The Execution of Things, and with More Adventurous, the band's first record with major label support, we have our answer. Jolted by the divinely pure vocals of Jenny Lewis and Blake Sennett's howling guitar on prospective indie anthems like "Portions for Foxes," the Los Angeles foursome has two fists through the earth in their quest to depart the underground. It's obvious from the opening smack-talk sing-a-long "It's a Hit" that Lewis is the centerpiece of this 11-song pop consignment (leaving the capable Sennett to sing only the acoustic low-fi "Ripchord"), and the unabashed charisma that is her trademark infiltrates throughoutfrom rockers ("Love and War") to ballads ("Absence of God") to pop ("Accidntel Deth") to Dusty Springfield soul ("I Never"). And while the production is polished to radio-friendly, it fails to dull the charming accessibility of a band that wears progression as a badge. --Scott HolterCustomer Reviews:
Crossover appeal or corporate takeover?.......2007-07-06
But that doesn't matter beneath the weight of what works. As before, the first half is considerably better than the second. "It's a Hit" is a catchy anti-Bush strike (I think it's a law now that if you're in a band, you must pen a hate letter to that most-unfit of Commanders in Chief), but the targets are a bit obvious and delivered with as much subtlety as Neil Young's "Let's Impeach the President." "Portions For Foxes" is probably the most radio-ready of the bunch (and a single), "I Never" is a country-soul ballad that sounds plucked from the 60s, and "Does He Love You?" has a strong, flitting melody that carries Lewis' vocals over every crescendo (it sounds at times like an 80s pop hit for one of the Bangles or Go-Gos, but dramatic where the others were saccharine). As usual, though, we're left wondering why Sennett is even allowed to sing lead, as he does on the tepid "Ripchord." Not their finest moment, but a worthy addition to any indie pop fan's collection.
Best cuts: "Accidntel Deth," "Portions For Foxes," "Does He Love You?" "It's a Hit," "Love and War," "I Never," "The Absence of God," "A Man/Me/Just Jim"

Give Me More Rilo Kiley.......2007-03-07
P.S. Jenny Lewis does a nice job on her solo effort, Rabbit Fur Coat, where she is backed up by the sister act, the Watson Twins. If you like female singer/songwriters, you should also give a listen to the Watson Twins on their debut release, Southern Manners. And, as I mentioned above, and to make sure he gets his props, Blake Sennett has recently released a second disk with his "other" band, The Elected, called Sun, Sun, Sun, which is a nice piece of work.
P.P.S. While I really like Lewis's vocals quite a bit, you may not. Her voice and style defy easy classification and are not for every one (which is perhaps why the band has not garnered far greater recognition). But if you want to expand your horizons and experience music as art, not as popular culture, then you owe it to yourself to investigate both Jenny Lewis and Rilo Kiley.
