Admit it: If you had to pick an artist to give voice to the wackadoo thinkings of a monkey beloved by most of the American populace over age 3, you could do a lot worse than Jack Johnson. Black Eyed Peas? Too hyper. Death Cab for Cutie? Too ironic. They Might Be Giants? Too eggheaded. Johnson, though the object of much rightful jealousy--here, after all, is a guy who only stumbled into music and vaulted himself up the charts after a successful career as a pro surfer--turns out to have the goods to do H.A. Rey, Curious George's creator, proud. Fans familiar with Johnson's earlier discs will recognize a certain laconic sprawl and easy fascination in his songs that suits the theme of perpetual puzzlement perfectly (here, let's not forget, is a guy who racked up fans with songs called "Bubble Toes" and "Banana Pancakes"). That the music takes a childish turn barely registers--songs like opener "Upside Down" are classic Johnson, all wonderment and groove, and the collaborations with friends Ben Harper, G. Love, and Matt Costa warm up, wink, and scamper off before packing on the weight of excess meaning. "We're Going to Be Friends," track seven, seals the deal--when you can make the White Stripes sound compatible with the Man with the Yellow Hat, you know you've got a multi-generational winner. --Tammy La GorceDescription
Faced with the task of giving a voice to a central character that does not speak, Universal Pictures turned to Jack Johnson to craft songs that could provide a voice for Curious George. As a new father, it gave him the opportunity to make an album for both parents and children. Presented with early animations and the story line, Jack crafted new songs that capture the emotions of Curious George as he leaves the jungle to follow the Man with the Yellow Hat. He also turned to friends Ben Harper, G. Love, and Matt Costa to contribute songs that might bridge the gap between parent and child. Joined on the record by his band (Adam Topol, Merlo Podlewski, and Zack Gill), Jack duets with three of the other songwriters (Ben Harper, G. Love, and Matt Costa), and does a cover of the White Stripes' "We're Going to Be Friends." Parents who watched Schoolhouse Rock on Saturday mornings when they were children will recognize Jack's take on the classic "Three Is a Magic Number," reinterpreted with the 3 R's as a call to protect the environment and Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Sing-a-Longs and Lullabies feels like so much more than your standard soundtrack due to its unified creative vision. While the songs have a universal appeal, their themes speak to a child's experience (or in this case, a curious monkey's experience) of the world.

Also, it has been proven that classical music has nothing to do with the cognitive development of young people. Now, teach them how to play piano or violin and you have yourself an actual YOUNG EINSTEIN, but listening to this kind of music does nothing for the development of the brain. It is just for lazy parents that can't sit down with their kids and play with them or read them a book.

Inspire the baby-within.......2005-12-13
The selections on this CD are all excellent and represent a nice range of Mozart's compostions, emphasising those that are ideal for creating a pleasant backdrop for leisure, dining and social occasions ("divertimentos"). The recordings are from the creme of musicians famous for their Mozart. Few works are as elegant and soaring as the Serenade #10 for winds - an astonishingly beautiful tune made famous from the early scenes of the movie, "Amadeus." Mozart supreme gifts of music are even seen in such humble "background music" as these pieces. And such continuity of warm, leisurely tones as these over 70 minutes is ideal for inspiring the baby to-be if that is why you are considering this CD. Better to expose a baby to the gentile, lyrical music of Mozart than to the dissonant, loud and disturbing tones of some classical music written well after Mozart.
As the reviewer below rightfully notes, compilation CD's of various unrelated works like this one is not quite how classical music is best meant to be heard. But in a way it is better for many to start with such collections like this - especially for those who just want the more quiet selections that are unintrusive. In that respect, this collection can be satisfying for most anyone (not just moms or babies). I have a huge classical music collection, but still really enjoy listening to one full CD of similar-temperament music like this one that flows easily and smoothly that doesn't demand my attention but only seeks to delight. And, in the end, that was the simple and primary goal of many of Mozart's compositions - to be purely enjoyed and delighted.

No one will be able to say for sure whether Lullaby Renditions of the Beatles will successfully "glide your little one across the universe, through an octopus's garden, and send them into a slumberland of strawberry fields," as it says it will on the back on the disc, but one thing it won't do is bonk you over the head with the sub-par production you might expect from a novelty disc. The latest CD in the series that has provided hipster parents with wordless, infant-friendly versions of Led Zeppelin, U2, Metallica, and many others takes a turn for the unapologetically melodic here, having its way with classics from "Here Comes the Sun" to "Hey Jude." The result is, as ever, powder-puffy yet inarguably palatable, whether you're the one swaddled in the crib or the one staring down into it waiting for the sandman to arrive. "Michelle" was a dozy song to begin with; here it's a doorway to a peaceful drift-off that, with any luck, will last long enough get the laundry done. --Tammy La GorceAlbum Description
Golden slumbers await your little pride and joy at the end of lullaby road. The Beatles are the most famous songwriters of the twentieth century. Their songs are known by people of all ages here, there, and everywhere. The dreamy quality of their later work provides the blueprint for these beautiful lullaby interpretations. It will glide your little one out across the universe, through an octopus's garden, and lay them down in a slumberland of strawberry fields.Customer Reviews:

If you've been operating under the impression that songs with the word "bloody" in the title can't make for good lullabies, guess again: given the Baby Rock treatment, "Sunday Bloody Sunday" sounds infant-tested, sandman-approved. And, more important, not even the tiniest bit absurd. With their glockenspiels, vibraphones, and mellotrons, the Baby Rock magicians have spun sweetness and a soothing vibe into everything from "Smells Like Teen Spirit" to "Stairway to Heaven"; given the unthinkable nature of those undertakings, this one seems almost too easy. "All I Want is You" is a little on the snuggly side to begin with, after all, and so is "The Sweetest Thing." No matter how high the bar is set, what's consistent about this series is its knack for getting eyelids to drooping and rock fans to chuckling: Bono and the Sandman make for strange bedfellows, but entertaining ones. --Tammy La GorceAlbum Description
Rockabye Baby! transforms timeless rock songs into beautiful instrumental lullabies. The soothing sounds of the glockenspiel, vibraphone, mellotron and other instruments will lull your baby into a sweet slumber. If it's timeless you're looking for, you don't have to look much further than Ireland's legendary heroes U2. Their cascading melodies and soundscapes are a perfect foundation for these heavenly lullabies. Introducing your little one to this unforgettable music is the sweetest thing you can do.Customer Reviews:
"Even Better Than the Real Thing" - NOT!.......2007-06-06
After two times listening to the full album, I still get confused and messed up during the songs. I appreciate the attempt to "get" U2 but I think the same thing could have been achieved by listening to wind chimes or banging a pipe.
Of all the "non-U2" items out there, this is probably the weakest. Other non-U2 U2 items, such as "Strung out on U2", "In the Name of Love", "We Will Follow:Tribute to U2", and "Pickin' on U2", and so on all do U2 better justice and actually resemble the songs.
Bottom line: As a real U2 fan, add it to the collection. As someone who wants to slowly introduce your baby to U2, throw on "The Joshua Tree" or make a mix CD of their slower songs.

This CD has beautiful, calming songs from around the world are perfect for bedtime, meditation, yoga and relaxation. Some of the songs included are A Lullabye, Arriba Del Cielo, and Cradle Spell of Dunvegan.Amazon.com
If these truly gorgeous lullabies and songs from all over the world don't soothe the savage beast within your child, nothing will. This hypnotic collection of soft and slow melodies--some ancient, some new--is perfect for lulling a child to sleep or for any evening when you want to escape into a warm bath with candles. Carlos Santana accompanies African singer Angelique Kidjo on the sweet opener, "Naima." Claudia Martinez sings "Arriba Del Cielo (Above the Sky)," a lilting traditional lullaby with roots in the Mexican state of Guerrero. The Letterstick Band, from the small An-Barra clan of Australian Aborigines, performs the moving "Yi-Rrana (Sunset)." One favorite is "Lá Vai Alguém (There Goes Someone)," a hot-summer-night-sounding lullaby sung in velvety tones by Virginia Rosa. Another lovely addition is Kanji Yano of the Sanshin Café Orchestra playing a generations-old lullaby on a traditional stringed instrument from Okinawa called the sanshin. The liner notes, written in English, Spanish, French, and Dutch, provide kid-friendly facts about the countries of origin. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the Putumayo Cross-Cultural Initiative, a non-profit organization that uses the power of world music and the arts to inspire children to connect with diverse cultures. It's a funny thing with Rockabye Baby's Lullaby Renditions of Metallica--the disc is both all about the music and it's not. Consider it: on the one hand, here is a righteous, fully recognizable assortment of vintage Metallica tunes, including "Master of Puppets," "Enter Sandman," and "Nothing Else Matters." On the other, what's to stop a suburban massage parlor from passing it off as another generic, therapeutically new-age soundtrack to release tension by? Not a lot. The point being that this is a strangely versatile disc, but one no Metallica-loving new parent should be without. Starting, appropriately enough, at "One," producer and performer Michael Armstrong reduces Kirk Hammett's once rib-crushing riffs to xylophone and toy piano; "Fade to Black" becomes powder-puff pink, "(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth" becomes more like "(Band-Aid) Kissing a Boo-Boo." Somewhat miraculously, what once was suitable listening for leather-wearers only becomes music to fasten Pampers by. Enjoyably. Upping the gift-appeal factor is Metallica's inarguably cool liner notes: scissors, string, tape, and a hole punch turns them into a heavy-metal mobile to hang over baby's bed. --Tammy La GorceAlbum Description

For centuries the world over, mothers (and fathers) have been cradling, cooing, and crooning to babies and small children with song. There's scarcely a one of us that cannot recall a particularly gentle song a special someone sang for a wee self--to calm, soothe, and aid slumber. This tender music is to the soul what mother's milk is to the body, and we call it the lullaby. Rooted in age-old tradition, Lullaby: A Collection presents an even dozen lullabies from around the globe. Particularly beguiling are the African "Be Still My Child" by Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the traditional Spanish "A La Nanita Nana" as sung by Tish Hinojosa, and Bobby McFerrin's "Common Thread," which you may recognize as the theme from the American documentary Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt. Other featured artists include Sweet Honey in the Rock, Judy Collins, Derek Bell, and Loreena McKennitt. --Paige La GroneCustomer Reviews:
