About the Artist
Kyllander began his career in theater and dance at a young age. His first songs were written at the age of 8, and his love of cinema developed shortly thereafter. His songs are stories that pulse to the rhythm of film. Listeners of Kyllander's debut album, Untaught, will find a cinematic dialogue unfolding before them. The songs are moving images; tales of desire, chaos, contemplation, and self-assertion. Kyllander follows a long line of groundbreaking artists whose music withstands the passage of time. Untaught is a raw, rule-breaking, and fresh change from the detached, dull offerings found on most radio dials. He employs instinct, emotion, and experience instead of formal training. The result is a combination of experimentation infused with elements of jazz, folk, pop, theater, electronic, industrial and cinema music. The diverse palate of styles on Untaught offers many unique, rich and intriguing songs. "Ask Yourself" hangs sweetly on the last moments of a romantic relationship, and tells the tale the way only a poignant alt-country hit could. The trip-hop influenced "These Lips" grooves with tenacious honesty about unfulfilled needs. "Your Whore" teases from a naughty, uncharted male perspective, and vibrates as a club-worthy anthem. The atmospheric, cinematic songs "Marionette," "Night's End," and "Cloud to Ride" break the conventions of traditional songwriting and display a natural wisdom and skill far beyond his years. The album closes with a bittersweet, pop-oriented and simply stated "Time to Go." Kyllander's music is sure to generate intrigue and passionate praise throughout the music community. He will continue to challenge constructions of thought and sound, and has already begun work on a follow-up album to Untaught.

Untaught,Kyllander,Kyllander,One sees a cinematic dialogue unfold before them when listening to the songs on Untaught. The songs are moving images.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars intoxicating trip into the macabre.......2005-05-08

Kyllander is the work of Chris Kyllander, and-I get to write this all too rarely-his music sounds unlike anything else I've encountered on the Twin Cities music scene. Crossing the lushness of latter day Mercury Rev with a bit of Depeche Mode's gothic darkness, Untaught provides a highly enjoyable listen for those who feel their current music is lacking in baroque melodrama. The creepy piano-lullaby-on-a-bad-acid-trip stylings of "Trapeze Star" will keep you sleepless for nights if you pay too close attention. More traditional moments, like the loping folk-rock of "Ask Yourself," crop up intermittently, and, by virtue of their juxtaposition qualities, make the weird songs feel that much more offbeat. A highly intoxicating trip into the macabre, Kyllander's endless night will have you trading all your clothes in for black turtlenecks if you aren't damn well careful.

5 out of 5 stars Dark but dance-able-.......2004-12-31

This CD is a recent purchase-I love it!!! Some very erotic lyrics, dark and mysterious. There is also a great dance track that would be comfortable in any club's mix. It's interesting to hear a male that is very influenced by female voices-I hear Bjork, P.J. Harvey and Tori Amos. Very well produced with lots of great musical talent besides Kyllander himself, who, by the way, speaks very good Japanese! All around a great purchase.
