About the Artist
Leader David Beckey has been in an extensive portfolio of Minneapolis bands, including stints with the Sedgwicks and Glow, who released one single via Susstones records. Soon after that, he formed the Autumn Leaves and has since released two singles and a debut CD.

The cast on the album includes Keith Patterson (The Funseekers, The Spectors) on bass, Matt Gerzema (Dearly, The Legendary Jim Ruiz Group) on guitars and extra vocals and Steve Kent on the sticks. Local Minneapolis producer Bryan Hanna lent his able hand to the production duties, and the album rings with a crisp, clean sound classically influenced by greats like the Beatles, Hollies, and Byrds.

5 out of 5 stars Delightful 60's tinged pop with a bit of psychedelic magic........1999-07-09

Minneapolis is a mini hotbed of cool 60's influenced bands. You have The Conquerors, Howlin' Andy Hound, The Pins and these cats the Autumn Leaves. Each one of these combos approaches their 60's influences in a unique fashion and the Leaves fashion is that of beautifully crafted pop which is akin to heavies like The Fab Four and The Byrds. David Beckey has managed to write and perform some absolutely spellbinding material and luckily for us, much has been documented in a couple of singles and this here full length CD. In Minneapolis, the music press is crap and they often overlook great releases like this all the time. But when you listen to this CD you sense that it's the type of thing that could be huge on a national level and that the little burg of Minneapolis could easily be left behind by this great band. A prime example of this is the fact that David Beckey has been invited to England to perform at the upcoming Terrastock. Listen to the opening track "Theme to the Autumn Leaves" and hear the initial magic that is to come as this CD spins. "You Didnt Say A Word" will be stuck in your head after as few as one listening. "Magic Red Raincoat" is wonderful mod tinged pop psych and "The Summers Gone" is as wonderful a closer as any. The lineup of this CD is a plethora of David's close musical comrades, the most essential being David's long time guitarist/partner in crime Matt Gerzema. Other artists featured on this release are Conquerors members Steve Kent and Keith Patterson, the later who could have an entire book written about his various garage rock efforts over the last several years in the TwinTowns. If you dig 60's pop, indie pop, psych and/or all of the above, this is essential stuff to add to your collection.

5 out of 5 stars Great Guitar Pop Record.......1999-03-08

Just wanted to put my reccommendation in for The Autumn Leaves. If you have any interest in anglo-american guitar pop from the Byrds to R.E.M.'s earlier days, you really can't lose with this disc. It's far too obscure for YOUR own good!!
