I loved this cd from the first moment I bought it. Their version of Run Rudolph Run is the best I've ever heard. And the Silent Night Medley is also great. These guys have real talent and you can hear it in their playing. This is one CD I play a lot and would like to hear more of on the radio.

A longtime Hanson fan.......2006-11-27

I was one of the many tweens who absolutely fell head over heals for Hanson, and now a decade later... I'm still a semi closet fan. I've had this CD since it came out and I listen to it every year around this time. Almost all the tracks are very upbeat which gives you a break from some of the more slower traditional Christmas songs. Although I like everything, my favorites would probably have to be number 1, 2, and 8.

Hanson has always had a tough time convincing people that they're different than other child idol performers. The difference is huge, though, and these boys are blessed with real talent. They also seem to have some discretion because their albums are very tasteful and catchy. I'm starting this season's reviews by looking at all the good Christmas albums in my collection. I assure you, this is a quality piece. If you are biased against Hanson, but like Christmas music, why not give this one a try? It'll be in heavy rotation in my car stereo. Given that they play their own instruments, the production in the album is very good. They are supplemented by crack studio musicians, and the whole thing sounds real enough to avoid the plastic, cookie cutter sound of, say Hillary Duff (just one example). This sounds like a real band, which of course, it is. Vocals are tight and I especially recommend the cover of Stevie Wonders "that's what Cmas means to me" and the original "At Christmas." I'm seeing it listed at unbelievably cheap prices, so give it a try. Would give 4 and 1/2 stars if possible. Thanks for reading and have a great Christmas.

Honestly, I am not a huge fan of the CD. While there is no denying that these three are very talented, I felt like most every song on this CD sounded the same.
The exceptions were the last two songs, "Silent Night Medley," and "White Christmas," which I thought were well done and sounded great.
Unless you are a big Hanson fan, I would skip this one.

My 6th Christmas with this album.......2006-10-12

It just flat out makes you happy. I just bought I think my third copy because i've just worn out the other ones. I'm one who won't listen to Christmas music until the day after Thanksgiving but it kills me to look at this CD and try not to listen to it. It's happy, it's fun, it's really what Christmas should be all about. Listen to "What Christmas Means To Me" and try not to smile or tap your foot, I promise you won't be able to do it. I was a huge Hanson fan when i was about 16 and now at 24 this is still my favorite CD in my whole collection Christmas or not. It signifys a season and holds it to what it truly is, a wonderful, joyous time of year.

More than meets the ear.......2006-12-12

While an interesting mandolin treatment traditional seasonal favorites, the CD's title as it appears on the jacket is: "Snowed In With a Mandolin On CHRISTmas Day" and the only vocal is a reading of Luke 2:14's "peace, good will toward men" over "O Come, All Ye Faithful" rather than the proper lyrics. It might be noted that Luke 2:14 is much disputed - the preferred reading being "peace toward men of good will." Further notes from the CD's jacket: "Praise the Lord," "To Him who sits on the throne," "A special love and appreciation to my parents ... for their dedication to God...." You get the picture. If what you're interested in an acoustic string rendering of traditional holiday tunes, something like Windham Hill's "Holiday Guitar Collection" might be a better choice.

Through some unfortunate set of circumstances or another I have found myself snowed in with a mandolin on Christmas day more times than I care to remember. As I can't actually play the mandolin, I always like to stick on this wonderful album instead. Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without it.

Inez Lancaster's "Snowed In With A Mandolin On Christmas Day" is a great mixture of traditional Christmas songs as well as songs reflecting the true meaning of Christmas. Each of the songs on this CD seems perfectly fitted for the mandolin. This project was created using many stringed instruments--some of which I'd never heard of--with the main emphasis being on the mandolin. It's wonderful music the whole family will enjoy. My two young daughters couldn't get enough of it! This CD will definitely become a regular part of what I listen to during the Christmas season.

Old Man & The Sea.......2003-12-09

The late Tim Rose may be best remembered for his reworking of a certain old Blues tune now known as, "Hey Joe". After hitting the airwaves in '66, it soon "rose" to the hallowed heights of immortatlity in the hands of Jimi Hendrix. Arthur Lee's Love & The Byrds also delivered notable covers based on Rose's foundation. One would have thought this would have launched his career. Despite the same thing happening with similar rearrangements of "Come Away, Melinda" & "Morning Dew", the big time seemed to elude this former seminary student. All this being said, my introduction to Tim Rose came courtesy of Nick Cave's 1986 cover of "Longtime Man". Most recently, his old friend Robert Plant paid homage by covering "Morning Dew" on this year's, Dreamland.

Snowed In is Rose's final word after his death this year(Oct 2003). Without a doubt, it's also his most satasfying album. Mournful, stark and reflective, the aformentioned, "Longtime Man" is revisted here to stunning effect. Other standouts include the doom laden, "Down In The Valley" & the haunting ghost story, "Hanging Tree". In terms of heartwrenching ballads, Rose's hard years of obscurity only serve to enhance the likes of "Come What May" & "Time Slips Away". The whole thing is bookended by a moving pair of surreal monologues that bring the work of playwright, Sam Shepard to mind. Throughout it all Rose's major gift remains his unmistakable voice---howling, gruff & tender. From his reworkings of older to unreleased material, Snowed In is the perfect introduction to a talent that never recieved it's due(outside a few royalty checks). In recent years, the European press went on to dub Rose "Rock's answer to Ernest Hemingway". A fitting moniker, so let this serve as his Old Man & The Sea. Snowed In By Hanson is soooooooo great. Hanson covers some old classics such as Rockin around the Christmas tree and O'l holy night. I would Buy this album becuz its some cool tunes for Christmas and its kid-friendly. :-) I would say that about all Hanson's albums because they ROCK!

This c.d is great especially if your favorite holiday is Christmas!! It not only has old Christmas favorites, but HANSON has created new songs to add to the old time favorite christmas song list. Well if you don't like any other song on the c.d., I encourage you to at least get it and here what HANSON had to add!!! Snowed In is a really great album, which makes you wish that Christmas was all year round! This import is really great, it has extra tracks, stickers, and a little calendar. It's well worth the price!

I am an American Hanson fan who lives in Japan. I have been able to get a lot Japanese release CD's and Singles and the Snowed In import is definately a must have. This is the kind of Christmas CD you could listen to year round and the bonus tracks totally rock.
