Editorial Reviews
Singing has always been my first love. Dreaming about recording my own songs and singing for thousands of people has become my reality. At 25, I have released my first single "Only You" a mid tempo pop ballad that speaks about going through the trials of life but knowing that there is still someone who cares and is always ready with open arms. Growing up in South Florida I have been influenced by many cultures, so its hard to say I belong to just one Genre. I have been a Christian all my life and write songs that encourage and motivate everyone . I will not write a song that is not full of passion or can touch my life in some sort of way. I truly believe that Im gifted and my music is blessing everyone that hears it.

Man of La Mancha, the show that introduced "The Impossible Dream" to the world (and lounge singers everywhere), was the hit of the 1965 Broadway season. Richard Kiley is magnificent in his career-defining performance as the deluded wannabe knight Don Quixote. His leading lad Joan Diener sings the role of the kitchen wench Aldonza with just the right balance of dignity and vulgarity. Irving Jacobson turns in a fine comic performance as the Don's faithful squire, Sancho Panza. The score, with music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion, was revolutionary in its time. The orchestra had no violins--just brass, woodwinds, percussion, and flamenco guitars. Man of La Mancha is one of Broadway's most inspiring musicals and it well deserves its high reputation. --Michael SimmonsCustomer Reviews:
Check out Other Versions. Don't be swayed by Others' Reviews........2007-06-09
After that test, I have to agree with the reviews here that Richard Kiley is the superior Don Quixote. Domingo's voice is, of course wonderful, but Kiley acts the role better on the CD and Domingo's accent is a major distraction.
In the role of Aldonza - no contest. Julia Mingenes-Johnson's singing and performance on the Sony version is far superior to Joan Diener's. I didn't have to hear the tracks back-to-back to realize that. Ms. Diener's performance just grated on my ears from the beginning.
Bucking the crowd, I prefer Mandy Patankin's Sancho (Sony version) to Irving Jacobson's. I may be biased, having had more exposure to the Sony version, but Patankin seemed to be trying to inject a bit more feeling into the character. Jacobson, singing in an annoying, scratchy voice, came across almost like a cartoon trying to fit in among live characters. It seems like most people either like Patankin or hate him. Guess I'm one of the former.
The Orchestration does seem brighter/clearer in this version compared to the Sony version, but, in general, the tempo on most tracks seems slower than the same tracks on the Sony version. I preferred the up-tempo, Sony versions of "The Barber Song", "Little Bird, Little Bird", "The Dubbing" and "A Little Gossip".
In Summary: For Kiley's Don Quixote, you'll probably want this version, but for tracks featuring Aldonza (and maybe Sancho) you'll want to check out the Sony version. Since I have both disks, I will probably come up with a mix of my favorite tracks, in general, favoring the Sony disk but substituting the tracks that feature Richard Kiley's Don Quixote where I can.

I hated the idea. But when we began to play, he even had us watch the musical, I fell in love with the melody. The many songs of a man who believes the best in the world. YOu find that in Dulcinea, The Impossible Dream, etc.
From one maginificently rendered song to another, you can be lost in its melodic elegance.
My favorite song is the initial rendition of 'Little Bird, Little Bird'. It's a soft song, sung as a love ballad. In the musical you discover it's being sung to a local whore by a bunch of randy men. Despite that, I still like it.
This along with others are among the great works of the stage!
Magnificent voices.......2006-07-05

As the frontman for the Mavericks and a member of Los Super Seven, Raul Malo has applied his Orbison-like delivery to an eclectic array of material. On this, his latest solo effort, the warbler enlists veteran producer Peter Asher to focus on romantic balladry, as string-laden arrangements surround Malo's tremulous voice on the opening title track (a '70s hit for songwriter J.D. Souther) and the soaring "Feels Like Home" (reprised as the closer in a duet with Martina McBride). The song selection highlights Malo's vocal range, as he finds the bittersweet essence in a slowed-down rendition of the Everly Brothers' "So Sad," a dramatic reading of the Bee Gees' "Run to Me," and a lilting take on Ron Sexsmith's "Secret Heart." He even tackles Etta James's signature tune, "At Last," its jazzy, smoky sophistication punctuated by a trumpet solo. The cover of Willie Nelson's "Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground" provides the album's main link to country, but even here the bedrock organ and soul choir sound closer to the church than the roadhouse. The stellar selection provides a superb showcase for Malo's shimmering voice. --Don McLeeseCustomer Reviews:

Although it's based on the 1967 movie of the same name, Thoroughly Modern Millie is almost thoroughly new. Composer Jeanine Tesori (Violet) and lyricist Dick Scanlan wrote a whole batch of songs, while retaining a couple from the movie--including the Jimmy van Heusen-Sammy Cahn title tune--and recycling even older material (look for Victor Herbert's "I'm Falling in Love with Someone" and the inventively arranged "Nuttycracker Suite"). Miraculously, the show, set during the jazz age, doesn't feel stitched together, and Tesori does a great job cranking out swinging melodies. Sutton Foster is appropriately brassy as Millie, but she can also tone it down, as in the beginning of "Gimme Gimme" (of course, she then proceeds to project up to the last rafters as the song builds to its climax). Harriet Harris, as nasty Mrs. Meers, steals the show with "They Don't Know." Close your eyes, listen to her, and you'll be back in Broadway's golden age. --Elisabeth VincentelliCustomer Reviews:

Having long been unfairly dismissed as an ingenious Sinatra impersonator in some critical quarters, it's easy to see why Harry Connick, Jr., has been reluctant to record the sort of pop standards cover album that's become the career refuge of rock artists as diverse as Bryan Ferry and Rod Stewart. But that's exactly what the New Orleans pop revivalist has done here on a slate of familiar chestnuts from the 1950s and '60s. But there's a notable conflict at work between Connick the arranger/conductor and Harry the pop crooner. The former seems eager to infuse his charts with the sort of restless, reinventive musicality he's displayed on recent works as diverse as the stage foray Thou Shalt Not and the neo-bop jazz instrumental collection it inspired, Other Hours, bringing to bear arranging influences as diverse as Ray Charles and Nelson Riddle. But the oft Sinatra-smitten vocalist cruising over those masterfully stripped-down arrangements and bluesy, laconic tempos still seems sometimes reluctant to step out of The Chairman's long shadows--and occasionally basks in them, as on the repeated "Jilly" references in "My Blue Heaven." Still, it's artistically head and shoulders above most marketing-driven retro collections, an album that should delight the Connick faithful with its jazzy arrangements and bittersweet takes on the title track and "I Only Have Eyes For You"--and maybe win a few new converts willing to forgive the periodic genuflection to Sinatra. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

That being said, I wasn't all that thrilled with this album. I purchased it for my wife for Valentine's Day but it's taken a backseat on the shelf for us.
Maybe I'm just used to the remakes of a lot of these songs, but the tempo that HC uses here is just way too slow and boring. The arrangements are nondescript and overall it's just kind of blah.
Personally, I'll stick with his other big band albums like Songs I Heard, We Are in Love, Come by Me, When Harry met Sally (soundtrack) and the Christmas albums.

Disc 4: 58 minutes
What gives Silva? There is *MUCH* more John Williams in the silva screen back catalogue by the Prague Philharmonic than what is in this set, and thats not including their entire discs devoted to Star Wars Films, Indiana Jones Trilogy etc. Why isn't Hook "When You're Alone" included on Disc 2? There's room. Why isn't 1941 on Disc 1? There's room. Why isn't Earthquake on Disc 3? There's room. Why isn't Far and Away on disc 4? There's room. Where's the other ten minutes of the Rare Breed suite on disc 3? Why isn't Midway on disc 1? Where are the Land of the Giants, Time Tunnel and Lots In Space tv themes? Etc. Etc. Etc.
C'mon Silva, most of these 4 disc mega boxes released in the past few years are packed to the brim, but not this one, and with new recordings made after this was released (the terminal, munich, geisha, war of the worlds, star wars ep 3, harry potter 3), it only makes sense for a "re-do" in the next couple of years.
Further, with Silva releasing the 100 Greatest Film Themes on six discs in a couple of months, it's only a matter of time before we see the ultimate six disc john williams set.
This isn't a BAD set to own, but it could have been much better and when compared to the Jerry Goldsmith and John Barry sets in this same series, this one is a major letdown.

Could any single disc live up to the title The Only Broadway CD You'll Ever Need? Of course not, though this 76-minute disc gives it a good try. Out of the RCA vaults come original cast performances such as Zero Mostel's "If I Were a Rich Man," Carol Channing's "Hello Dolly," and Oliver's "Consider Yourself." From topnotch revivals come Patti LuPone's "Anything Goes," Peter Gallagher's "Luck Be a Lady," Alan Cumming's "Money," and Bebe Neuwirth's "All That Jazz." Also included are selections from newer shows Titanic and Ragtime. The collection starts to get thin when it has to hunt for available versions of classic songs, ending up with an "America" from Jerome Robbins' Broadway, "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'" from the 1979 Oklahoma! revival, and an "Impossible Dream" from Colm Wilkinson's solo album--all fine recordings, but nothing that could be considered a first choice. And of course there are many omissions, most notably the shows of Stephen Sondheim (a longtime RCA artist, even!). A follow-up, The Only Other Broadway CD You'll Ever Need, proved what everyone expected--the original's title was indeed an impossible dream. But it got your attention, didn't it? --David HoriuchiCustomer Reviews:

Ask anyone who's attended one and they'll tell you: there's nothing quite as colorful--and emotionally melodramatic--as a Greek wedding. Based on Winnipeg actress-comedian Nia Vardalos's one-woman show and brought to the screen by Rita Wilson and husband Tom Hanks, the film tells (with some parallels to Moonstruck) the story of a thirtysomething Greek spinster for whom falling in love with a "Xeno" (non-Greek) is surely the easiest part of a wedding that more than lives up to its billing. The film's soundtrack perfectly captures those swirling clouds of ethnic and romantic tension. Its first half largely sets up the rich cultural atmosphere with a lively sampling of traditional Greek folk music (featuring selections by Alexandros Xenofontos, John Tsifliklis, Eman, Nick Kutsukos, Daghan Baydur, and Richard Thomas), while the score proper from Alexander Janko (with help from Chris Wilson) slyly segues from similar fare ("Moose Caca," "Yasoo," "Yiayia") to more traditional orchestral film music. That sometimes electro-pastoral, compelling music has parallels with Rachel Portman's and offers the collection a sense of emotional completion. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
