CUTE TEEN POP.......2004-02-11

Ah, my preteen years. Dimly aware of the Beatles and The Rolling Stones, I thought Donny Osmond and his brothers were more relevant and in fact the essence of pop `n roll. (Except Little Jimmy, whom I considered a novelty act, although I did buy one of his singles). Of these songs, I was bowled over by the squeaky Sweet And Innocent, overwhelmed by Go Away Little Girl, charmed by Puppy Love, impressed by Young Love and deeply moved by Twelfth Of Never. The Osmonds were a huge teen craze in both the US and UK from about 1970 up to the middle of that decade. The band concentrated on more up-tempo or even downright revolutionary singles like Crazy Horses, whilst Donny went for pure pop and love ballads and Marie explored the romantic side of country. This is great nostalgia stuff, good material and not badly performed either. No doubt this wholesome music had a positive influence on my emotional and intellectual development. Thank you, dear Osmond Family!

terrible sounding collections.......2003-05-31

This is the worst sounding Donny Osmond collection I've heard. You are better off getting either of the other compilations put out on the Curb label. This cd sounds overly bright and shrill.

20TH Century Masters: Millennium Collection~Donny Osmond.......2003-01-31

Very good CD. I have not heard Donny's old songs in 30 yrs!!! Really enjoyed it. It is nice to hear the young voice of Donny in his early songs, like Go Away Little Girl vs. the changing and older sounding voice in his songs on this cd, Twelfth of Never as well as Young Love. You can really hear the difference in the change of his wonderful voice. Listening to this cd took my husband and I down "memory lane" listening to these classic songs by such a nice and classic man, Mr. Donny Osmond. I must admit, my favorite song is The Twelfth of Never, the words alone in this wonderful song really touched me deeply. I enjoy the original version by Johnny Mathis, but, the special way Donny sings this song really touches my inner core, heart, and soul.

Terrific 70s pop compilation from a big teen idol.......2002-08-15

This twelve track set includes Donny's remake of "I Knew You When," which was the flipside of his hit single "Hey Girl" in early 1972. This track is finally available for the first time on CD. All of the other eleven cuts where included on the 1992 Greatest Hits disc on the Curb label. Donny's last top 40 hit from the 70s is missing from this compilation, his version of "C'mon Marianne," which is included in the previous hits collection mentioned above. This new set's sound and notes are excellent. Maybe what Universal Music will do for big fans and collectors in the near future is remaster and reissue the original albums (or release a box set). If you do not own the older hits disc get this "best of" release instead. You may also want to pick up the recently released "20th Century Masters" volumes for both the Osmonds and Donny & Marie as well.

I lost this album a long time agon when it was on cassette. I loaned to a friend and never received it back, and never saw the friend again. So, since having so much experience dealing with Amazon.com and knowing I would be able to find anything on there, I went there to replace the album. Thank you Amazon.com for having what I want.

A Scattered Collection of Songs, Misses the Mark.......2005-12-16

Tonight is My time for reviewing "Millenium Best of's" from Family Acts (see Debarge, Jets), This One is an abject failure on many fronts: Who chose these Songs?! Some are Good, but why Three Marie Solo Tunes and None from Donny? Where is "A little bit Country", "On the Shelf", "Aint nothing like the real thing", and others? This 12 Song format should have worked well for this Duo (although they could certainly fill a 20 Song Best of respectfully), yet it's completely botched, Haphazard; Stupid Collection that insults those that Appreciate Donny and Marie, Avoid this untill the Record Companies get it right...

poor song choices, terrible sound quality.......2003-05-31

Like others have written, one has to wonder what the compilers were thinking when they put this collection together. Given that they chose to include solo songs by Marie, why not include her hit, "This Is The Way That I Feel," a song yet to see reissue on cd. Similarly missing in action is their disco-ish "On The Shelf."

Like the companion compilations for Donny's solo output and the Osmond brothers' hits, this collection also features "modern sounding" remastering that is terribly bright and compressed sounding. The Curb discs aren't great but they are better than this.

disappoint,but happy fan.......2003-04-09

I like this album because it included some Osmond songs that have not yet been released on cd. I also like it that this album includes some of Marie's solos, but I think she deserves to have a Best of Collection for the 20th century cd like her brother, Donny. It would have been great to get some of the other LP flip sides on this one too.

Another disappointment.......2003-02-23

The Osmond family's recordings have been reissued off and on for many years now, mostly in the form of less-than-brilliantly-executed Curb CD's, and have yet to be done right, at least comprehensively hit-wise. Even after a box set, some of the hits are still not available on CD. Unfortunately, missing the opportunity again, this piece from Universal Music takes a step backward in that quest. Though titled "Best of Donnie and Marie Osmond", three (each of which was top-forty so we're not talking minor league here) of the seven charted hits they achieved as a duo are missing, yet two of Marie's solo hits are here. With a total of twelve tracks, there was ample opportunity to include these missing hits instead of the b-sides and album cuts used. To further taint the effort here, if the compilers insisted on tacking on Marie's solo hits to this compilation, then they should have used her never-before-on-CD last pop charting hit, "This Is The Way That I Feel". Compiling these things is not rocket science and while many of the others in the Millennium Collection series are good, basic compilations of most, if not all, of an artist's hits, this one falls flat on its face in that respect. If you have any of the other D&M collections, you don't need this one. Beyond the faulty track selection, the execution is decent with good sound quality and all tracks in stereo. This piece falls way short of its promise and offers little incentive to purchase.

Outstanding Collection of Love Songs.......2007-06-22

I have to quickly disagree with those who are looking for more songs crammed in to what is such a breathtaking album of Broadway love songs. The rendition of the songs on this album and the Broadway singers selected for each piece, just are so beautifully recorded and make chills go through me. Whoever created this album, knew exactly what they were doing. This CD is full of nostalgia and artists who know how a song should be sung. They are certainly not making noise as on some Broadway CD's, but they have created an album that will go down in history for some of us who have longed to see such muscials come back to life in a way....that sadly has become a memory.

It is in need of 1 more musical........2005-05-29

I think they need to consider putting one more musical on this CD. This musical would have to be Wicked. What about As Long As Your Mine (from Wicked of course)? I think I would like this CD better if they could put Wicked on it. But of course this may not be true for everyone because obviously my favorite musical of all time is Wicked.

Not enough songs..........2004-10-20

Okay, so I have yet to hear this CD but already I have a quip: Why are there only 16 songs on this CD when the original Broadway's Greatest Love Songs had 20. They're cheating customers out of 4 songs! Also, why doesn't this include any songs from Aida, Triumph of Love, Beauty and the Beast, R&H's Cinderella, The Lion King, or Wicked! And please, "Our Last Summer" from Mamma Mia? Don't get me wrong, I love Mamma Mia, but that is NOT a love song.

I purchased the CD(and sold it) because I enjoyed the song "Sweet and Innocent", however, that was the only song that I made an effort to listen to after playing the whole CD. Donny reminds me of Michael Bolton, too much emotion in one song!!

Okay, any of you Osmond, especially Donny fan, this has to be it. Really bummed out about the show, but he didn't do much singing anyway..this is the place to hear the voice. Donny is just as welcome in our house as ever before. What a voice and some kind of voice we can sing along to because we are all altos aren't we girls????? We love Donny! He's a hunk!!!
