Reminiscent of the voice of the early albums of the Sundays, the singer in Frente must positively bounce when she sings. Lovely fun music that never becomes whinny or down.

Not as I remembered..........2007-05-14

I loved this album when it first came out, and after many years without it, I ordered the CD. It's not quite as good as I remembered it (the songs are very mellow, and more "folksy" that I remembered), but there are a couple of songs I still enjoy, and, well, it just brings back nice memories of college!

I Never Thought Life Could Be So Sweet!.......2007-02-20

From the beautiful opener to the excellent cover of Bizarre Love Triangle at the end this is a wonderful album full of mellow catchy songs. I think of it as an album to listen to late at night because of the enchanting quality and Angie Hart's vocals but it has some upbeat songs and makes for great listening anytime. The only misstep on the album is when the guys sing parts on a couple of songs. They are not bad singers but Angie's vocals are so joyful to hear that you wish they weren't cutting in. Those aren't bad songs though, in fact there isn't a bad song on this album, and some are absolutely stunning. No doubt to me this was one of the best albums of the nineties. I've been lucky to have these songs bouncing around in my head for over a decade now, my life has definitely been sweeter as a result. If you haven't been so lucky I suggest you start making up for lost time.

Great Album and Great Buy.......2007-01-21

I first heard this album when it was released in 1992. My friends and I enjoyed singing every single song with and without the album playing in the background. I purchased this album for nostalgic purposes, yes, but also to hear the lovely voice of Angie Hart, the upbeat melodies and the variations in songs making this early album an excellent buy.

I bought this album in 1994 and is just amazing how I can still enjoy these songs after all these years. Their other album, 'Shape' is just as great too I was surprised at that. All these songs are on my ipod now and ofcourse I don't listen to them all the time but when traffic gets jammed here in Los Angeles which is everyday, sometimes I put their music and is like being on a cruise instead of being stuck on the 101. I don't even want to arrive home at times just so I could listen to more songs :P

Wonderful intro To MEHDl ..........2006-06-08

I've always enjoyed Great Wedding music and this album is no exception, but while reading some of the customer recommendations posted on this site I discovered a group by the name of MEHDl (pronounced medie). After an online search I found their site (S00THINGMUSIC,C0M) and listened to the samples...
I was instantly blown away by the quality of this music and so I gave it a try and now that I have listened to these CDs several times I really must say that although I'm still a Tomaso Albinoni fan of, I find MEHDl to be a great addition to this CD. I had them both in my multi-disc CD player during the wedding and love the way they compliment each other. I highly recommend that you give this artist a try or atleast just go listen to the samples, I have a feeling you'll be glad you did.

Highly recommended. Even has suggestions for pre-ceremony, processional, ceremony, and recessional inside. 2 different versions of Midsummer Night's Dream march included - one with trumpet and organ and one with a full orchestra. Lots of great selections, well recorded.

This album has a lot of great wedding music. It had all of the songs I was looking for. There also is great background music for the ceremony. Glad I purchased it

Almost the compete wedding album.......2004-05-07

I used this cd to help me plan which songs I wanted to use for each part of the wedding. This cd helps you suggest the placement for the prelude, processional, ceremony and recessional. The cd mainly has classical songs, but it does have a few of "today's" songs. There could have been a few more songs they could have added. But overall, its a good cd.

Wow... What A Movie and Soundtrack. BUT!.......2007-07-22

I like some of the tunes in this movie soundtrack. The movie is so sweet and wholesome in a lot of ways. I even watched the movie twice in one sitting. It really touched my heart. Gosh, I'm so deeply in love with Lynn-Holly Johnson. Who isn't, right? I feel like a kid with a big crush. The only thing that was really disappointing was all the foul mouth cussing. I'm sure some will find that funny and have a good chuckle. As a partially some what of a decent Christian. I did find the G.D.'s a bit overboard. I lost count at a certain point. Yes, it was loaded. I don't want to discourage anyone from buying the movie. I'm just disappointed that the writer, and other decision makers allow that sort of verbage in an almost wholesome family entertainment movie. Okay, enough bickering. I was upset, and had to vent off some steam. Get the movie and sountrack. I still recommend it. If the foul mouth cussing bugs you. Try and ignor it, and enjoy the rest of the movie. It is a really touching movie. Go for it. Enjoy! :)

One Of The Most Beautiful Soundtracks Ever.......2006-01-09

It's funny that I say this, but I consider "Ice Castles" one of the most beautiful soundtracks ever. For starters, Marvin Hamlisch created -along with lyricist Carole Bayer Sager -a very touching song with 'Through The Eyes Of Love', and I wouldn't want to forget the tremendous instrumental arrangement on track 5 of the CD, with that spectacular trumpet writing at the end. It's just sublime and marvelous.
Of course, since we are looking at a movie that tells the story of a young female skater who suffers a mishap that leaves her blind, Hamlisch's music is more focused on the source music for the skating numbers -as well as the track composed and performed by Alan Parsons -and that makes this album a great listen. There are also a couple of incidental tracks like 'They Threw Flowers' and 'Learning Again', which I consider dramatically powerful.
So let's face it: This is a beautiful CD. You can relax while listening to it.

Loved it since 1979!.......2005-01-14

I saw the original movie as a senior in high school and absolutely loved it. It was only recently that the movie and soundtrack were easy to find. (I still have an original Beta tape of the movie from the early 80's.) If you've never seen the movie, buy the DVD, watch the movie, and if you love what you hear, but this CD! Great to listen to in the car during your commute home from work.

SOUNDS OF BLACKNESS' "MERCY.."MAKES THIS BUY MOST WORTHY!.......2003-03-01

I first heard "God is Love/Mercy Mercy Me" on radio and got hooked on the song. When I found out it was by Sounds of Blackness, I searched every music store for their CD, and even on the web but couldn't find the song. Then I chanced upon it on this used CD. Man, the transition from the first part (GOD IS LOVE) a funky dance-beat Gospel inspired tune to the second part (Mercy Me) is a work of a genius. You should hear this one. The rest is so-so but this one cut makes the whole CD worthwhile to buy! Thanks, Sounds of Blackness and to seller tomhiatt2002!

Great Interpretations of Classics.......2002-10-23

I really do love the music of Marvin Gaye and his work. To have it reinterpreted by so many different people presents a real challenge. Yet it works. Not incredibly well. But good enough to buy and listen to the variety of interpretations. They do put melodic, rapping and lyrical spins onto the work which in some ways does succeed in making it more their own stand alone interpretations rather than simply reduxes.
A great buy......perhaps go for the used price. There are some products that are materially/work product overpriced but are still worth a hearty, avid listening.

The music of Marvin Gaye is beautiful, and the artists on the album give stellar performances. Their renditions are soulful and delivered from the heart. Don't let the fact that the cover says 'Various Artists' throw you off! This is wonderful.

A Fitting Tribute to One of Music's GREATS!.......2001-02-19

Marvin Gaye was truly a unique artist, and this album of Gaye standards as interpreted by others adds to his legendary status. Beginning with daughter Nona's turn on the title cut, the CD triumphs on every single selection. The respective artists do not try to mimic Gaye; they simply do it their way without altering the passion of Gaye's lyrics.

Bono is superlative in his rendition of "Save the Children," BoyZ II Men blend their harmonies effectively on "Let's Get it On," while the very soulful Lisa Stansfield is just right on "Just to Keep You Satisfied." Madonna's "I Want You," slower than the original, retains Gaye's heartfelt plea to his intended paramour. "Stubborn Kind of Fellow" by Motown label mate Stevie Wonder is pure fun. Finally, Sounds of Blackness do justice to "God is Live/Mercy Mercy Me," making it perfect for the dancehall as well as the choir stand.

Every single song on this album is a wonderful tribute in itself to Marvin Gaye. Each artist puts their own touch on it, and makes it special, from the wonderful harmonies of Boyz 2 Men, the pulsating, haunting 'I want you' from Madonna and Massive Attack, and every other track on this album; Marvin would indeed be proud. For anyone who loves music from, and for the soul this is a must.

The Marvin CD is sweet.......2003-09-12

The covers are watery, paper thin, modern R&B fluff in my opinion. I'm not a fan of modern R&B to start with but I thought that, being a real fan of 70's Marvin, the overall favourable 5 star reviews of this album needed to be balanced by another view of it. The covers are awful elevator music. Admittedly covering Marvin Gaye has to be a supremely difficult task, but I think this album should have had more artists from a variety of styles. Listen first before buying!

VERY high points were Kenny Lattimore doing Just to keep you satisfied. its like butter. and listening to Joe almost perfect on 'soon i'll be loving you'. i dont think anbody else could pull off lyrics like "i never gave up no head before" and "i'm gonna give you some head baby". this CD is made for lovin. just look at the artisst, Will Downing, sure love to ball, fagetaboutit!! the only thing better is the real Marvin on these selections!!!

For anyone who is serious about soul music this double CD is a must have item. The cover of "Let's get it on" by Gerald Levert as well as "just to keep you satisfied" by Kenny Latimore are the high points on the album. After listening to the covers, hearing Marvin sing the original versions gives you a greater appreciation of what a great talent he truly was. The tributes are heartfelt, but No One could ever do it like Marvin. Put the CD on, pull your honey close to you and enjoy!

Fianlly there is a greatest hits collection that hits you with the best, most soulful Marvin Gaye hits. I loved the way they reproduced the originals with todays R&B stars in such a way that the person singing it is characterized by the same attitude in which the song conveys. I loved the remakes of "Your Precious Love" "Let's Get It On" "Distant Lover" and Montell Jordan's version of "I Want You". You definitely need to pick up the double CD though because it falls nowhere close to being complete without hearing the songs sung by Marvin himself.

I didn't know that there was a limited edition with the original versions of the songs. I guess I got gipped out. But this is a great CD. Gerald Levert does "Let's Get It On" just all I have to say is WOW. Erykah Badu and D'Angelo were meant to sing with each other on "Percious Love". This is just a great Tribute album. A must have in any CD collection.
