5 out of 5 stars BUOS Fan.......2005-02-02

This is an awsome album. I am a sucker for a good ballad, and Elliot and the gang certainly do these well. I also like a good pounding rock song, and BUOS is very capable and able in this genra as well. I think that Elliot is one of the most deep song writers in the business, he combines the everyday life aspect that makes you feel he is in touch with your soul.
I saw this group live at my university and they rocked the house. If you have a chance, GO SEE THEM, they are a good band. I hope that Perception is as good as the rest.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2004-10-24

Now, after listening some more I may have to give it 5 stars. But I'm still not sure where IT'S YOUR DAY ends and HUMBLE STAR begins. Thats the confusion that knocks it down for me, but everything else is great.
In general, BUOS songs have to grow on you. But once they take root they hold you.
I never knew a song about an orgasim could sound so peaceful and relaxing (WHEN SHE COMES).

5 out of 5 stars Such a great CD!.......2004-06-01

I love this CD. If you have never heard of Blessid Union of Souls, this is the album to try. I don't even have a favorite because I love every song. Romantic, sad, happy...you name it, there's a song for every mood.

5 out of 5 stars Breathtaking............2004-04-19

Breathtaking doesn't even deserve to have the honor to describe this CD, as well as the other BUOS CDs. If you have any feelings at all (especially if you've been in love) you will truly enjoy this CD. It can make you cry, laugh, everything. There are very songs on here, but will not bore you in the least bit. There are actually happy songs too. My advice if you are looking for the perfect CD for any mood is to purchase any of the Blessid Union Of Souls CDs. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars The best cd i've listened to.......2003-02-09

Alright, so I was feeling rather depressed. You know how it is, girl problems. I loved a girl, but she didn't return the emotion. But, for some reason, while crying through this CD I felt rejunevated afterward. Buy this CD; cherish it forever.

4 out of 5 stars blessid union of souls.......2006-11-04

this is a great album. i knew this album from high school dayz, but my copy was stolen. i bought it back. funny things is, i didnt even know they did other albums.

5 out of 5 stars One of the greatest albums ever!.......2005-03-27

I remember hearing "I Believe" on a Christian rock station, then it became a big hit on the top 40 charts. This song is so good; I would rank it up there with "Imagine" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water."
The rest of the album is excellent and thoughtful, and inspirational. This is one of those albums that one has to own.

5 out of 5 stars 90s childhood.......2004-06-25

I remember when I was 7 in 1995 and hearing the song "I Believe" in the promos for both the "Full House" and "Blossom" finales. They aired the same week. It was very sad.

5 out of 5 stars Great soulful debut.......2004-06-19

This CD came out when I was 12 yrs old, I loved it then and I love it now. The lead singer's voice is beautiful and captivating. Musically, they are diverse and most importantly, these guys got soul. BUS has great musical arrangements and lyrics that are rarely heard in modern day popular music. "Would You Be There" will make you want to dance, "Nora" will have you in tears, "Home" will put a smile on your face, and "I Believe" will give you perspective. There is a strong spiritual vibe at times, which usually is not my thing, but they aren't preachy at all - the lyrics are all about love and peace, something the world is in deperate need of. This debut is truly a showcase of sincere, fresh optimism expressed through a mixture of rock and soul.

5 out of 5 stars One of those CD's you always take with you.......2003-10-26

I still to this day don't know what made me buy this CD but I am SO glad I did! I truly believe this is the finest example of song writing I've ever had the privilege to listen to. The first time I played the CD I stopped and sank to the floor and did noting but close my eyes and listen to the music. I think I played nothing but "Home" for the first three months. The whole album is thought provoking and deeply moving. But my favorite tracks are "All Along" and "Let Me Be The One" This is the one CD that you MUST have.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Decent songs from an average band.......2005-04-19

First of all, let me start by complaining that this is an "Enhanced" CD, which means when you pop it in the CD drive of your computer, it screws up any programs you have running until you exit out of the "Enhanced" features. I wish they would make these "Enahnced" CD's so that you can access that info if you want to and not make it a default that automatically pops up every time you put the CD in your disc drive. It is a real pain to stop everything you are doing and exit out of the "Enhanced" features so that you can just listen to the music while you work.

Now, on to the music content. Blessid Union of Souls was one of those bands that I barely paid attention to when they first came to fame. When I first heard "I Believe", I thought it was good. But the song was overplayed at radio and the social message of the lyrics got a little tiresome after repeated plays. Other songs that followed were OK, if somewhat forgettable. In fact, until I bought this CD, I had almost forgotten songs like "Light in Your Eyes", "Let me be the One", and "I Wanna Be There". I had pretty much forgotten how many hits this band had. I like these songs, but they are just pretty much safe, AC/Rock. The one song that does stand out from those early recordings is "Oh Virginia", which moves a step away from AC and kicks in a little hint of blues. My favorite songs are actually both from their 1999 release, "Walking Off the Buzz". "Hey Leonardo (She Likes me for Me)" was just the song they needed to create some buzz about them and get them back on the charts. The band really cut loose on this tune and the fun that they had with it really shows through. "Standing at the Edge of the Earth" returns them to their "oh-so-serious" mode of earlier recordings, but this one is less boring than the earlier ballads. In fact, instead of just plodding along like some of their songs, this one builds to a passionate ending.

I recommend this CD for "Hey Leonardo" and "Standing at the Edge of the Earth" and as a bonus you get all of their previous hits. The one song to really ignore is "Rev it Up (NASCAR Rocks)". An obvious attempt to get played on NASCAR programs.

5 out of 5 stars A refreshing look back and a peek at whats to come..........2004-11-09

This CD is the best of the best from BUOS. The "punkie irie" remix of "I Believe" is incredible. I absolutely love "Storybook Life", and getting to hear some of 3XL's amazing talent. I highly recommend this CD to everyone!

5 out of 5 stars best cd ever.......2003-02-16

5 out of 5 stars great album.......2001-07-25

These guys write meaningful songs and the music is alot of fun. Somewhat like BNL, but more rock. Highly recommend this album.

4 out of 5 stars Only missing one song!.......2001-04-20

I really love all the songs on this cd!! The only song that it is missing, I think, is "Jelly". It may not have been a radio hit, but it is one of my favorite songs by BUOS, and I really wish that it could have been on this cd with all of the rest of their terrific songs!

1 out of 5 stars They should have waited for inspiration to come by.......2006-03-10

I am a big BUOS fan since Home. Sadly, I cannot help but agree that this album has been put together in a rush for some strange purpose. The songs are devoid of upbeat and inspirational melody and rythm, and are basically disjoint pieces ou mildly interesting sounds assembled. I thought twice before giving 1 star, but I think this will contribute to balance the overall score which, up to now, has been somewhat misleading. I'm also very demanding beacause I'm a real fan of the band. So I guess I'm entitled to firmly express my dislike for this one and expect to shock the guys into coming up with a cd in the line of first two, if they ever come across this review.

4 out of 5 stars best cd in a while.......2006-01-30

i like buos. their cd "home" is one of the ten i would take to an island for all time. top to bottom solid cd. since "home" the discs have either had holes or are just kind of mediocre. "perception" hearkens back to "home" and i dig it.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic effort, Blessed to have them back.......2005-10-12

10 years later and Blessid Union is stronger than ever. From the opener "Could Have Been With You" to the wrenching bookend "I Was Never Here" the band has poured more heart, soul and musicianship into this record than any of their previous efforts. Thank God that that this record wasn't overly produced or being handel by a major label other wise it would have been like all the other fly-by-nights acts being shoveled into the mindless MTVers who really believe that that dribble is what's worthwhile. Could some of the tracks have been a little more polished? Sure, but after you really take a listen having them anyother way would be a shame. Lyricly that album is staggering.
Just like songs like "Nora" from HOME, there are songs on PERCEPTION That are painfully real. In a good way. "I Have Just Begun To Live" is a powerful testament to Eloit's faith in God. The haunting "Let's Get Out of Here" referenceing a couples post abortion efforts to keep it together is heart wrentching. "..My Little Friend" & "I Still Believe In Love" are a beautiful window into this band. If you're into music for quality and not quanity then Blessid Union delivers.

5 out of 5 stars Exemplary.......2005-09-03

This is Blessid Union's first album in a post 9/11 America. What we must be cognizant of when considering an album like this from a deeply personal and intelligent such as BUOS is that they are going to sound different; there is going to be a different feel altogether. Life in America has changed and musicians reflect this in their music. Listen to the lyrics of this album, the instrumentation and Elliot's magnificent vocalizations. You will not be disappointed, you will be moved.

2 out of 5 stars Dissapointed.......2005-08-17

I have been a faithful fan of BUOS since their debut album, Home. I have seen the band play numerous times. Since their early days, the band has been through many changes, most recently with the parting of Eddie and C.P. This album has a "thrown together" feel. My theory? Lead singer Eliot Sloan's solo album didn't completely make it off the ground so the record company demanded that he and the band cough up an album. The lyrical quality of this album is not up to par with the three previous albums. They've also attempted to change gears musically with mediocre results. I also feel that the CD is suffering from Roth's absence. In addition to his instrumental contributions to the band, he also served as co-producer and provided string arrangements.
I hope that this album doesn't signal the commercial end of BUOS. While I prefer most of their songs that never see radio play, record companies love hit singles. This album failed to produce a "She Likes me for Me" or "I Believe."
Hopefully, Sloan will focus all of his inspiration back onto his band and the new musiciain lineup will begin to truly mesh. This band is entirely too talented to disappear off of the radio radar over one so-so album.

Regardless, I am still a fan, and all in all, this is still a better album than much of the over-produced rubbish on the shelves right now.
