Product Description
Constant Flux, aka Douglas Rimerman, is part of the burgeoning IDM scene in the United States. With his fresh take on the electronic music paradigm married with visual art performances, Constant Flux has already enjoyed radio airplay on L.A.'s influential KCRW 89.9 FM and KXLU 88.9 FM, and a series of live performances at multi-media art exhibitions throughout L.A. Constant Flux recently performed live at Late Night at LACMA, an art opening event at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art with a club-like atmosphere that also featured KCRW's Jason Bentley. This event was attended by more than 900 people. More recent performances include a musical benefit for the people of Nigeria titled Aquarium hosted on March 19 at the Atlas Supper Club on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles as well as a show on April 20 at Roam Design Gallery in the artist district of Los Angeles for a multi-media art event called Urban Surfaces. The live setup for the Urban Surfaces performance was unique in that Doug and visual performance art partner Yo Suzuki were setup on a 12-foot by 10-foot platform suspended from the roof 12 feet above the ground by one high-strength cable at each of four corners of the steel and wood platform. Large gaping holes in the platform floor permitted onlookers to see up through the bottom and view visuals projected straight up towards the ceiling. On March 3, 2002, Doug was invited to perform six tracks as constant flux live on KXLU 88.9 FM. The one-hour spot went so well that he was asked to perform at KXLU again June 2002 and also to play at Cyberstock in the Summer of 2002 (date to be announced), an new electronic music in Southern California.

5 out of 5 stars A Musical Treat.......2006-01-08

"The true mission of the violin is to imitate the accents of the human voice, a noble mission that has earned for the violin the glory of being called the king of instruments." ~ Charles-Auguste De Bériot ~

Yehudi Menuhin and Stéphane Grapelli together had made some of the most beautiful music ever-recorded. And I believe that this is one of the many successful albums they recorded together. In this recording, both violinists have showed their excellent musicianship and interpretative eloquence as well, making it one of my most cherished CDs from my collection.

These are the main ingredients of a perfectly-made CD for your listening pleasure: mix violins, piano, bass and drums together, combine two terrific violinists, season with the best melodies in the 20s, 30s and 40s from Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter and Rodgers & Hart. Add the musical talents of Nelson Riddle, Max Harris, Martin Taylor, Eddie Tripp, Alan Clare and the rest of the studio musicians. Now all you have to do is to sit back, relax and savor these stunning melodies coming from your CD player. Listen to it in full-volume and fill your music room with the sheer beauty of these classics.

One of my favorite musical instruments is violin. With its four strings, it gives a whole wide range of musical versatility and I simply love the fascinating sound it produces.

My personal highlights are the best tunes from Jerome Kern - "The Way You Look Tonight" (Nelson Riddle arranged this particular track and conducted the Woodwind and Brass section), "A Fine Romance," "Pick Yourself Up," "Why Do I Love You?" and "All The Things You Are."

My choices from Irving Berlin's gems are - "Isn't It A Lovely Day?" featuring the great artistry of Nelson Riddle in arranging and conducting, "Cheek To Cheek" and "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm."

The Cole Porter repertoire represented his musical sophistication in "Night And Day," "I Get A Kick Out Of You" and "Just One Of Those Things."

The choice cuts from the talented and creative team of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart are "My Funny Valentine" and "Thou Swell."

Listening to this CD is so delectable and equivalent to having my favorite dessert - be it Tiramisu, New York Cheesecake, Black Forest Cake, Chocolate Soufflé, Créme Brulee, Chocolate Mousse or Chocolate-Coated Strawberries! ;)

A musical treat.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Album.......2005-11-28

Regardless of whether or not you like the Killers, this CD is pretty good. I love classical music, and this CD is not a disappointment.

The songs are a little shorter than the originals, but still manage to be pretty good. It's amazing what they've done with just a few classic instruments and no synthesizer. The mood of the songs are a little different from the album, it's not so much "night" music, as it is... classic. You can picture yourself eating in a brightly lit, fancy French cafe with this music in the background, rather than being at a club or on the streets at night.

The only problem is that the music lacks a certain amount of energy, which was present on the original album.

I would still reccomend this CD to anyone who likes classical music and the Killers.

5 out of 5 stars This is Great!.......2005-06-14

If you like The Killers this Cd rocks! I love the Hot Fuss Cd and this one is just as good. I highly recommend this Cd for all Killer fans!

3 out of 5 stars The Killers have a tribute album...already?.......2005-04-26

Okay, "Hot Fuss" came out about 10 months ago and now The Killers are one of the most popular bands of the 'indie' genre. Is it too soon for The String Quartet to turn songs like "Mr. Brightside" and "Somebody Told Me" into Muzak pieces? The answer is yes but...they did a pretty good job of it. I am not recommending this cd unless you love The Killers AND you don't mind listening to the songs turned around 180 degrees into 'chamber music'. Try to preview it first.

2 out of 5 stars A strange experience..........2003-11-03

They're both brilliant violinists but in very different genres, and Menuhin by his own admission never learned to improvise (unlike many of today's classical performers): he was trained in the post-Liszt, pre-jazz window when improvisation had died out in classical music and even cadenzas followed the score strictly (if Beethoven didn't write one, play Kreisler's). And it shows, rather painfully. He achieves a brilliant tone but that's about it: he plays these Broadway tunes completely "straight", and any student could do that equally well.

The CD is worthwhile for its curiosity value, but you'd get much better musical value buying Grappelli's jazz and Menuhin's classical recordings separately.

5 out of 5 stars Menuhin&Grappelli.......2002-08-17

Music just does not get any better than this CD! I am a musician and hearing these two artists is a thrill. This is a CD for all music lovers. You will not be sorry if you purchase this CD

5 out of 5 stars always a winning pair.......2001-01-29

You simply can't go wrong with a combination of two of the most talented violinists of our time. This cd is a wonderful showcase for them both and the choice of music is the greatest classics. It's a fun, winner of a cd.

5 out of 5 stars excellent hardcore album.......2005-11-04

There is only one thing about this CD that would be considered negative by the general Hardcore population... and that is that there is more lyrical talking than found in most hardcore bands. However, this band hit it right with this CD, and the talking sets the stage for quite a few asskickings... that is if you're in the pit at once of their shows. There is a very equal mixture of thrash metal rifts, old school AND new school hardcore breakdowns, and British Metal-style solos that complete the main guitar rifts. There is also a slight amount of classic rock influence, but it is integrated in a hardcore way. The drummer is perhaps one of the more impressive aspects of this album, as he keeps a constant flowing beat through all his songs, rips off great drum solos, is good with double bass, makes the cymbals part of the music instead of simply the que to "start the next part," and you can just FEEL his intensity. Overall, Scars of Tomorrow is very passionate band and they show it best on this album (although I am still waiting for my copy of "Horror of Realization," which is their new album." I will say, the first 2 songs aren't all that great but the rest of the CD is... hey that's better than just the first 2 songs being great. This is not one of those bands who relies on good production value to sound good... it is no Drowning Pool (possibly one of the most pathetic metal bands ever created). So for 7 or 8 bucks fellas, this one is 100% WORTHIT!

      4 out of 5 stars pretty...sick.......2003-05-18

damn sick-maybe a little over the top with all the spoken words mixed with brutal hardcore singing-but at least theyre not singing like ... all these bands seem to be doing now-adays..to get it str8 if you like sepultura, god forbid, santa sangre, hatebreed, until the end, youll dig this! a mix of old school heavy with new school hardcore.
plus a song that statrs out emo then gets hella heavy-its pretty sick too...youll like

One critic states, "While Brake's haunting melodies and evocative lyrics conjure up eerie phantoms reminiscent of "La Belle Dame sans Merci" (John Keats) and "The Highwayman" (Alfred Noyes) her vocals tempt comparison to Loreena McKennitt." Brake's striking vocals and collaborator, Kent Thompson's mystical arranging bring Celtic music to a new cinematic high. It is, at once, symbolic, vibrant, rich and unbelievably unique. The is a new celticity told from the perspective of a romatically gifted Midwesterner. Standout tracks include, "The Celtic Rose", "Standing Stones" and "By The River". This is quality music performed by a woman faithful to the tradition but able to see the future as well.
