Intermission music.......2007-06-26

Just letting you know that on the Snakes and Arrows tour, Rush is playing this music during their intermission.

Three thumbs down! One from Neil, one from Alex, and one from Geddy I'm sure!!! My God, I can not wait until Vitamin Records either goes out of business or wake's up and starts doing recordings with real talent. These sound like midi files - and not just the Rush, but everything I've heard from them. The Iron Maiden disc is pathetic, as is the new Dream Theater.
Be warned, do not buy this CRAP! That's what they are putting out. If there are real players playing this, they sound like they're on the middle school level. It's quite a shame. There is some beautiful music that these great musicians in these bands wrote and vitamin records is wiping their butts with it and laughing all the way to the bank. Do NOT support them and spread the word.

wow..........2007-01-17

i honestly only bought this for comedy purposes, but i had no idea what i was in for!

this is possibly one of the worst CDs ever produced, tribute or otherwise. the orchestration is incredibly sub par, and hugely aggravating.

i was also largely disappointed to discover that it was put out in 2005. i was REALLY hoping for some late 70's/early 80's action. i should have paid more attention, i guess.

also, from the sound of things, the only song with actual violin instrumentation (beyond the first violin) is passage to bankok (which is one of the dumbest songs ever written anyway). the rest of them reek of synthesizer (i think i actually have some of the same string samples!).

and lastly, at virtually no point is the instrumentation actually a string quartet.

i would really like to hang out with the two dudes who made this. i am betting that they are supremely insane. this one is definitely getting played at parties when i want people to leave.

my favorite RUSh tribute!!.......2007-01-03

This one is the cool one! Hearing the classic RUSH tunes performed by a quartet will give you a whole new appreciation for the compositions and arrangements the wonderful trio from Canada have given to us.

Exploitation or not..........2006-11-05

Exploitaton or not, it's still an interpretation of some of my favorite, formative music. I'm one of those geeks who listened to Rush so much as a teenager that just hearing a brief melody from one of their songs causes a truly visceral reaction.

I had always said that in 200 years, people will still listen to Rush and hearing the work interpreted through a string ensemble only strengthened that belief.

Of course, I'm also a big fan of "tribute" albums. Some of my favorites being the "Ecomonium" tribute to Led Zepplin, the "Moody Bluegrass" Nashville tribute to the Moody Blues, and the "Fire on the Mountain" reggae interpretations of the Grateful Dead. Oh yeah, I'm also one of the few that really got a kick out of Rush's own tribute album, Feedback.

In summary, if you love Rush and you enjoy tributes, buy this album. If not (on either account), skip it.

"Blowin In The Wind" is beautiful.......2003-04-11

The whole CD is really very good, but "Blowin In The Wind" is arranged in a different key and is so haunting and beautiful. My son is in Iraq right now fighting for their liberation, and I was in Vietnam. Bob Dylan's music holds a powerful place in my heart and I just had to get this CD when I saw it. I've listened to it over and over again and I really like it. Although not every song is as good for a quartet as "Blowin In The Wind", they all are worth 5 stars. If I could give this CD 6 stars, I would. If you have never heard Bob Dylan, this CD is still good IMHO.

Interesting..........2006-03-19

The string tribute is, of course, not meant to substitute for the originals, but as a No Doubt fan I found the "classical" versions fun and a stimulating alternative. I can put No Doubt albums on repeat and rock out, but it's always great to hear remixes, covers, and different versions of a favorite artist.

I suggest you visit an independent music store or someplace you can better sample the album, rather than rely on the clips. If not, I would recommend the tribute to pretty solid No Doubt fans and to those interested in some refreshing classical music.

some of the songs are alright, don't speak and simple kind of life aRE incredible. hella good and hey baby were a bad choice i think cos they are a bit repetitive when done on a string instument. im a little confused about vague moment..is that a no doubt song?

Good, Depending On Your Taste.......2004-11-17

I know that some people were very disappointed with this CD; I wasn't, but maybe that's just because I am a tried-and-true No Doubt fan- I find it thrilling to hear different renditions of my favorite songs. Yes, some songs hang on the precipice of being tacky, especially the faster ones, like "Hella Good", and, in some ways, "Hey Baby". However, I think some work quite well. Obviously, all the original songs are better, but sometimes I get in a dramatic, classical-music mood, and this CD is awesome. "Ex-Girlfriend" sounds deliciously devious and dark with the deep string instruments, and "Don't Speak", like its original, is so heart-rendingly beautiful it'll pull at your heartstrings.

Overall, take care. I think the CD is well-made, with a good instrumentalists and fine arrangements, but I can understand how it would put some people off. But don't knock it till you give it a listen. And best of all- it's instant kareoke!

When I listened to these clips, I cracked up. This is so bad it's funny, kind of like reality TV. If you want a laugh, try this CD. If you want music, I suggest you buy a REAL No Doubt album. No offense if you like chamber music; but these people who did this pathetically bad album have ruined it forever.

I can add a lot more words to the list; motivating, romantic, provacative, eluring, brilliant.... This is GREAT! I love the idea this company has of putting out string quartet versions of your favorite artists. But this CD is marvelous. I got it last week and it is my favorite CD in my collection. A fine tribute indeed. Congratulations to this group for such a fabulous tribute.

I own the CD plus i have seen John Sines JR many times live.
I feel that he has what it takes to make it to the top.
John puts on a great show he performs songs off his own CD
and cover songs of other stars. John is a big Travis Tritt
fan and has had the chance to open for him at the Virginia state fair a couple years ago and after that show they asked John to come back and head line his own show. Im telling you John Sines JR has what it takes, if you ever get the chance to catch a John Sines JR show please don't miss out you will not be disapointed in the music, the show, and John him self.

Excellent tribute to Dale that will leave you in tears. The Intimidator will always live on and will always be known as Dale Earmhardt and no one else. No one will ever fit his shoes. I miss him.

john sines jr's black # 3.......2001-04-29

This is a must have cd for any country music fan. John is such a talent and writes his own songs. This album is full of uptempo songs from "Georgia Rain" to the cheating song " The horse they rode in on". And it also has its slow ballads like the heart breaking "should've told ellen" and "here today grown tommorrow". And with the tribute to the late nascar great Dale Earnhardt "The black #3" makes this an album worth listening to. I have had the chance to meet and chat with john on several occassions, and have seen him perform live. He is what country music needs to help carry us well into the 21st century
