When Sting collaborated with Cheb Mami on the Brand New Day track "Desert Rose," he created a surprising demand for Arabic crossover pop. This collection provides a suitable next stop for those whose taste was whetted by that collaboration. Egyptian singer Natacha Atlas opens the album with "Mon Amie la Rose," a maudlin little French tune she twists through her wringer until it is utterly transformed. "Desert Rose" turns up as a frisky remix by Victor Calderone, while Rachid Taha and the trance choir, B'Net Marrakech, appear in the compelling, orchestrated "Qalantica." Mami is heard on his own on one tune, but is eclipsed by the gut-shredding Khaled, the undisputed king of Algerian rai. The harder-edged electronic outings are standouts, while the tracks that are the Arabic equivalent of adolescent pop don't hold up nearly as well. This compilation, however, mostly eschews the dross in favor of tunes that go the distance. --Christina Roden

1 out of 5 stars Mix down the vocals, and maybe.......2007-06-04

I loved Arabesque and Arabian Travels, but this is not trance. This is more like Arabian pop music. The vocals are irritating to me. Sting even shows up on one track. If you are looking for world trance, or something to chill out or relax to, forget this one.

3 out of 5 stars Kind of disappointing.......2007-02-02

I love world music and Putumayo CDs.
I also loved that Desert Rose song and the amazing voice of Cheb Mami with Sting.
I bought this CD expecting a sexy "One Thousand and One Nights" music style, or a good fusion of traditional and modern sounds, but instead, what I got was a KITSCH POP version of arabic songs.
Some of the songs are just bad taste, you just want to forward them as quickly as possible.
I should have guessed just by the look of the cover. It reflects the music as well. The painting might be nice, but the mix with the modern computer added photo image and the strange balls of roses just don't work well together. The same goes for the songs.
I don't recommend it, unless you're looking for cheesy disposable pop.

2 out of 5 stars Mediocre Middle Eastern collection.......2006-12-21

This compilation of Arabic pop hits around the same time as Sting&Cheb Mami's "Desert Rose" hit and Putumayo's "Arabic Groove" album, not surprisingly. It's disappointing, since it focuses more on westernized Arabic hits than genuinely Arabic ones. For its surprising blandness, there are highlights-
1)A remix of Cheb Mami&Sting's hit song "Desert Rose." It's very danceable, and in sync with the spirit of the original.Cheb Mami and Sting had one of those rare great celebrity duets. They powerfully melded their styles, making something wonderful.
2)Khaled is always great. His songs are never a disappointment--no wonder he's called the King of Rai.
3)Amina's "Dis Moi Pourquoi" is an excellent dancefloor song.It was a hit in France, and musically,it works. It's French chanson meeting Tunisian pop.
4)Speaking of French chanson,Natacha Atlas radically re-imagines Edith Piaf's "Mon amie la rose",transforming it from a Gallic weepie into a sensual Arabic serenade.
5)Hakim,who is considered a prince of rai,has a great song.
6)Cheb Mami's "Hay wadi hay galbi" is amazing. While Khaled is almost Arabic R&B,and Hakim is a Middle Eastern boy band sort, this song shows off Cheb Mami's musical gymnastics. It's quite stunning. After hearing this,I got his "Saida" album.

Instead of getting this,I reccomend Putumayo's "Sahara Lounge" (its best Middle Eastern compilation)and "Arabic Groove." "Desert Roses" has a half-dozen hits, the rest are forgettable. If you like Middle Eastern music, explore Putumayo's compilations instead.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome CD.......2005-07-23

I just bought this CD along with a bunch of other and I absolutely love it. It's great for belly dancing too as well as just listening to while you're doing housework.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Foray to Rye Music.......2004-12-16

This album is a splendid way to get into Rye music. Sting's hit single performance with Cheb Mami sparks interest, and the rest of the more obscure (in America, that is) tracks are all beautiful. Fun gift for somebody who is learning French (Maghreb music is often sung in French,) or just seeking out some more exotic music. Also, fabulously sultry dancing music!

After reinterpreting Arab classics on Diwân, Rachid Taha returns with a stunning collection of original compositions that owes as much to rock as to his Algerian rai roots, connecting the dots between Europe and the Maghreb. Here he again teams with producer Steve Hillage (Gong, System 7), whose guitar work and arrangements provide the muscular frameworks for Taha's songs and emotive voice. Rachid's new direction has all the power of rock, as on "Foqt Foqt," which maintains an insistent riff while retaining the delicacy and polyrhythms characterizing North African music. "Ala Jalkoum" offers a duet with Afrobeat superstar Femi Kuti while "Verité" and "Ho Cherie Cherie" could have come from a Peter Gabriel album. Made in Medina is a massive, but still natural, step forward that establishes Taha as the most visionary Algerian singer today. --Chris Nickson

5 out of 5 stars Really amazing.......2007-01-04

I, like many others, bought this cd after hearing Barra Barra on Blackhawn Down. I was pleasingly surprised to find that the rest of the cd is nearly as engaging. Garab is similar, with rhythmic lyrics and rock beats, and ala jalkoum is a ballad equally as entertaining. For people who like world music, particularly world flavour blended with western rhythmic beats and an edgy essence, this is a cd to add to their collection. Best songs: Barra Barra, Ala Jalkoum, En Retard, Garab.

5 out of 5 stars Sit up and take notice!.......2002-10-06

A couple of weeks ago I heard the last cut on this CD--"Garab"-- played on an online radio station. I could scarcely believe what I heard! Rachid Taha is new to me; his style of music, Rai, is not played very much in the U.S. Basically, it's an internationally-evolved music originating with the traditional styles of North Africa (especially Algeria) as transformed by various interbreedings with Western blues, traditional, and folk. It is especially popular in Paris, where there are many expatriate Algerians, and Taha in this album has infused his roots with a stark 'urban punk' influence that can really smoke. It helps that the album is produced by Steve Hillage (formerly associated with groups like Gong, The Orb, and System 7), who knows well where to add a bit of meat to make the mix take off. "Garab", for example, is a long, continually escalating trance piece that starts rather innocently but by its end immerses you in an atmosphere that would frighten the demons of hell. Buy it! You'll like it!

3 out of 5 stars This CD tries too hard.......2002-08-20

I was disapointed with this CD as the artist tries too hard to be do too much in 1 CD. It tries to incorporate too many styles without doing justice any any of them. It isn't a dance, or techno CD and is far too Western to be culturally Arabic. I felt I got nothing of what I was looking for which was contemporary and dancible Rai. This is more atune to Alternative music with foreign lyrics.

5 out of 5 stars My third Taha album.......2002-07-06

My first experience with Taha was when I found Ole Ole while browsing the International section at a CD store. Never heard of him before, but loved the album. I'm always looking for different world beat music.

So then I bought Diwan. Hated it. Too traditional for me, I guess. Never could listen to the whole album. It easily made the first cut when dumping CDs on an unsuspecting music dealer.

Wasn't sure which direction Medina would go, but the comments on the album cover sounded encouraging. Love it. Better than Ole Ole.

5 out of 5 stars This one grows on you - Buy it!.......2002-04-08

First, my prejudice: I like RAI music, as well as old stuff like Fairuz, and African musicians like Samba Ngo and Habib Koito. I really liked this album! But not without reservations - here's some minor gripes:

The first song Barra Barra has been heard as background in BlackHawk Down and in a PBS special on the intifadah al jadeeda. Still, Taha et al. dropped the ball - they could have transfigured the theme into something even more interesting in the middle section after it revs up into electric ... but it ends strong.

The song "Made in Medinah" itself is a bit repetitive and too much on the Eurotechno side for my taste.

The fifth song, Aie-Aie-Aie, also disapoints insofar as it could have been improved by avoiding the Aie-Aie-Aie theme which will not play well with English speakers (liable to hear it as the plaintif aye-yay-yay of Yiddish fame). Once I got used to that (yes ana amreekee), however, it became one of my favorites on the album.

Overview: I think this album has the potential to make inroads into the American audience and so my criticisms are pointed at what I think might impede this, presumably desireable (read: money), goal.

Overall, full marks as our British friends exclaim (well, they used to...

4 out of 5 stars Theres No Legal Age To Party With Tha Liks (Rating: 8 out of 10- -4 stars).......2007-03-11

I got into Tha Alkaholiks (E-Swift, Tash, and J-Ro) when I was 16 when "X.O. Experience" came out. Around that same time, I heard "Make Room", from this album, playing on the Music Choice Channel and thought that was the jam. I always thought that Tha Alkaholiks were all about making party jams and getting drunk, and it was all fun. What really made me go out and buy this album was the song "Only When I'm Drunk" where Tash rips his verse ("Type of rapper that'll get you out your seat quicker than a car jacker"). In fact that whole entire song was dope. As I said, these songs are all about partying and getting drunk, but at the same time rocking the mic straight from the first track "Likwit". "Turn Tha Party Out" featuring Madlib and Wildchild is also another dope track.

As for anything bad, there are a few missteps. I believe "B.S." with King T and "Soda Pop" is less appealing to me and sometimes makes me want to skip those two tracks. Thats all I can think of. Ten tracks is not a problem for me, because there those ten can rock the party hardly without any filler. "21 & Over" is an excellent debut from Tha Alkaholiks. If you're into 90's hip hop with a lot of lyrics, then this album is what you might look into. They followed up with, what remains my favorite album from them, "Coast II Coast" back in 1995. But this LP is an excellent start if you're new to Tha Likwit Fam.

5 out of 5 stars We need to have a Toast.......2006-08-31

We need to toast to this West coast classic. Coming from NY this one banged to the west coast. It also enhanced my drinking habit during my high school days but damn it was worth every last drop. Just remember to keep the brown bag over your 40 oz. (remember that?)

5 out of 5 stars Liks 4 Life.......2005-09-24

This is one of the best Alkaholiks albums!! U have 2 do... sorry, buy it :D

5 out of 5 stars classic.......2005-06-16

This album was the start of the alkaholiks who had a different style to most other west coast artists of that time. Their sound was more like an east coast flavour but with their own style of flows. They had some nice rhymes that had a lot put into them and could flow really well together (j-ro & tash). The production and mixing is excellent, not one thing wrong. Its shorter than a lot of other albums that were around that time, but it doesn't matter because the whole album is good and you won't think about the money you spent after. I would advise anyone who wants to know about the real hip hop to get this, or if you slept on it in the past to get it. These were the days of real creative, original hip hop. peace for now!

4 out of 5 stars MAKE ROOM for the crew with beats that THUMP!.......2003-11-19

This album is 10 tracks of pure, funky Hip-Hop. J-Ro (who dominates the album), Tash & producer E-Swift launch a very under-rated carrer with their debut LP, 21 & Over. This album guest features mentor King Tee & homies from The Lootpack.

Back in 1993, 10 tracks was all you needed. Nowadays, albums contain 16+ tracks, the only problem is well over half of them are garbage filler. Back when Hip-Hop was an art, it was a straight to the point 10 tracks - all of them great.

This LP is perfect for parties, with almost all the tracks promoting and prasing drinking and getting drunk (#2 "Only When I'm Drunk" w/ EPMD's "It's My Thing" beat. & #3 "Last Call", just to name a couple). There's even one track for the potheads (#9 "Mary Jane").

The ryhmes are well on point in every track, equipped with witty and hilarious lyrics, paired with bumping beats from E-Swift, The Lootpack & King Tee. This album is everything a Hip-Hop LP should be.

Bottom Line: This is an excellent album, every song is great. If you've never heard Tha Alkaholiks (AKA Tha Liks), buy this LP and see what all the buzz is about. 4 stars. Peace.

Perhaps the most talented, diverse, and adventurous four hands in dance music production today, Deep Dish have fittingly chosen Moscow as the venue for their Global Underground debut. Combining the intrigue and mystery of the Russian capital with their own bottomless pit of discovery, Ali "Dubfire" Shirazinia and Sharem Tayebi weave one of GU's classic journeys. Disc one starts with 16b Vs Morel's warm, house-flavored "Escape (Driving to Heaven)," which shifts into Soul Provider's "Rise (Mas Collective Mix)." The ear-catching, Moog-like note during SSHH's smooth-stomping "Hold That Body (Wally Lopez & Dr. Kucho Remix)" is curiously addictive, and soon afterward we reach the heart of Moscow 021 with the psychedelic trance surround-sound of Chab's "The Dub Session (A Cooler Dub/A Harder Dub)." Shirazinia kicks off the second disc with a more direct nod to root influences, first using a dub-tinged Way Out West mix of BT's "Shame" before busting out a truly awesome trance dub gem, Blackwatch Presents Professor Okku's "Word Unspoken." Shuffle in other seamlessly folded treasures such as the driving Markus Shultz remix of Fatboy Slim's "Bird of Prey," the tense mystery of Accorsi/Robb's "Foundation" and the fluid denouement of Envy's "Faith," and you have another superb GU set for the collection. This record proves that in the world of trance-house DJs, Deep Dish are masters of their craft. --Steffan Chirazi

4 out of 5 stars Solid up to a point.......2007-04-13

I agree with most of the reviews already on here. Both discs have stellar track selection, but there are some that seemingly don't belong, etc.
Having said that, I still listen to both of these CDs pretty dam often. Specifically disc one, the mix from I Can See the Lights through Hot is great, because the tracks go together so well.
Disc two is kind of like two mixes in one. It goes from track one up to I feel stereo, the track runs out, and then Bird of Prey starts at its beginning and the mix takes an entirely new direction (that's not to say this isn't good - Manilla Sunrise is a great track).

Also I'd like to note that I just got two 10" subs in my car, and Moscow sounds great out of them.

In summary, this album is well worth the money - I've got most of the global underground albums and this one has a place with me.

3 out of 5 stars Its good but that about it.......2007-01-04

The only reason I got this CD was because it was recorded in Moscow, my home town. The double Cd has a few tracks that I enjoyed but for the most part it was a very blah CD for me. I have seen Deep Dish live and enjoyed their music, but this Cd just didn't do it for me.

5 out of 5 stars You Can't Go Wrong.......2006-07-22

You can't go wrong with this cd or deep dish in general. It has tracks from Morel, Dido, BT & Fatboy Slim. The cd is banging but as the liner notes indicate, the second cd is heavier. The album is composed of dark vocals and deep bass booming tracks. With tracks from Dido-Thank You and IIO-Rapture, file along with Stevie Nicks-Dreams in developing the Deep Dish style. This could be the best deep dish album. The mixing on toronto may be a bit better. The only problem is my cd skips. Probably a problem with production. Filing along with Deep Dish Renaissance, Toronto #25 & Dubfire Toronto. If you are looking for any deep dish, start with Toronto or this cd.

5 out of 5 stars Timeless.......2006-06-23

One of my favorite cd's it has great house beats, its tribal dark sexy moody bassy and has that phat bottomed funk.

Anyone who like any genre of house will love this cd.

Hello,
This CD was choose by DJ MAG as the BEST CD COMPILATION for the 2001. Come on guys that is enough to say about this CD. It is the best in their genre. The CD moves from Deep house to a Deep Trance, then comes a tribal sound...and BANG...another Deep Trance takes you on a journey that you will really enjoy. I hope that you listen this CD at a high level of volumen to feel and the listen the real effects of the mix.

It's only fitting that some of reggae's top stars should record Police songs, as Sting and Co. were enormously influenced by reggae, and their popularity gave reggae a needed boost in public awareness. Twelve artists working in different genres, from roots to dancehall, run through spirited versions of some of the band's (mostly Sting's) most famous songs, including "Roxanne" (Aswad), "Message in a Bottle" (Maxi Priest), and "Every Breath You Take" (Betty Wright), while Sting himself contributes to tracks by Pato Banton and Ziggy Marley. Many of the artists also add lyrics of their own, but what becomes obvious from these fresh interpretations is how brilliantly crafted these songs were in the first place, and how well they wear today. --Derek Rath

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars a simple cd.......2007-01-11

like reggae in new waves and new songs, well this cd of various artists is a good music paying tribute to the police.

3 out of 5 stars Shout out to the Babylon.......2005-02-03

It's not often that you'll find reggae superstars paying tribute to the Babylon (slang term for the police), so this album is certainly unusual in at least that respect.

There are a few stand-out performances by reggae luminaries like Aswad, who does a great version of "Roxanne", and Steel Pulse who perform "Can't Stand Losing You", but Maxi Priest doesn't do justice to "Message in a Bottle" at all. Sting also guests on two of the better songs, one with Ziggy Marley.

As Police covers, there's nothing really different other than the reggae rhythms, except perhaps for "Spirits in the Material World" by Pato Banton and Sting, where Pato improvises a bit on the chorus.

An interesting novelty album, and quite listenable, but does nothing to showcase or enhance the music of either The Police or the reggae artistes.

2 out of 5 stars Not that great.......2004-08-22

As a bonified fan of The Police, and a moderate fan of reggae, I was excited to hear old favorites redone by reggae artists. However, this album is surprisingly bland and unoriginal (aside from the fact that they're a bunch of Police covers--obviously, I didn't expect new lyrics). The arrangements were new to me but the sound was stale. How sad. Put your good money on "Outlandos D'Americas," a tribute to the Police in Spanish: it's far better.

2 out of 5 stars Yougetit Forgetit.......2002-06-29

If you like the Police ... and like good reggae .... you'll be disappointed in this album. Great artists, great tunes and alot of potential -- but falls way short in this overly commercial sounding tribute.

Alors, quelle delice! Each of these remixes exposes and builds upon much of the imagination that lies beneath the sassiest of Serge's oeuvre. They add to the originals and are executed with taste and style. Highly recommended for Serge lovers.

4 out of 5 stars Je n'aime pas qu'on m'aime mais je l'aime quand meme.......2002-02-15

I love Serge and was pleased to add this album of techno-Serge remixes to my collection. The different artists behind each of these songs are obviously big Serge fans and these remixes all seem like they are labors of love.

Some of the tracks are very good, Lola Rastaquoere, for example. Others (like New York, USA) were disappointing to me.

If you love Serge too you will enjoy having this in your collection.

5 out of 5 stars Oh my..........2005-12-16

Well its not often an honest male can get truly excited about a 'Synthpop' band but on this rare occasion when involving the human League, one can. It opens with such pop Stompers as 'Dont you want me' and 'Love action' which are equally insanely good songs. However the Middle of the album shows real strength and just how good this band were, 'Mirror man' is very catchy and 'Fasination [keep feeling]' is one of my all time classics. I also enjoyed 'Tell me when' which was there come back single in the mid 90's, it is so catchy and is proof that a one off band like the Human League never lose it. 'The lebanon' is worth a mention, howevever if you want to hear the best song of all time, look no futher than Phil Oakley's duet with Giorgio Moroder 'Together in Electric dreams', It is truly touching and the way it moves on from verse to chorus is perfection personified, a tear comes to my eye every time as i hear the song.
In conclusion you wont buy a better synthpop album than this buy it now or I shall fight you.

4 out of 5 stars The Human League..........2005-09-17

I wasn't really familiar with this group. I just know that there was something about the song "Human." When I'm at my desk, I'll just let the song loop and put me into that mantra - thus allowing me to get work done. I (at least try to) play along with the song at home on my keyboard. That one song moves me that much! The rest of the CD is somewhat predictable, since we are discussing 80's synth pop here. Still, I am pleased with the collection. My recommendation is, "if you can get it at a good price, buy it!"

5 out of 5 stars An excellent representation of a great band........2005-03-21

I have to say that I could not disagree with Iggy's review more, fair play to the review it's a valid opinion but does not fit with my memory of this band, let me tell you more.
This band, like me, grew up the late 70's and early 80's North of England. These times were depressing and grimy, politics were harsh and hard right wing in Britian and it felt like an living in an elitist regime of which the North fell foul.
The band's hometown, Sheffield, was particularly hard hit and it was impossible to believe that such an original and highly creative musical genre could develop from Sheffield at this time, but develop it did!
"Don't you want me", a popular single late in their commercial career, is not representative of their best. It is sugary POP trash in comparison to classics like "Love Action", "Being Boiled" and "Sound of the Crowd". These songs fueled a disaffected youth into thinking and feeling differently in times of gloom and dispondancy, not for nothing was this musical movement termed "New Romatacism" and it was starkly different genre and message from the years of Punk and New Wave which immediately preceeded, one felt contained, hopeful and nourished at a time of spectular dissillusionment.
Oakey's voice is masculine and powerful and in their height spouted emotional importence and explored his femininity to the hilt, this marked their appeal, exploring individualism in a time of samishness and bigotry. It was like having cavier instead of the same old mackerel paste.
The backing singers aren't great but that's the point, the songs are generation specific and speak strongly of their time, they embrace the beautiful in each of us and include us in on something grittly real, directional, safe and oddly beautiful.
I agree with Iggy that New Order, Yazoo and OMD were excellent but you cannot underestimate the power of the Human League and this album is a nice, tidy representation of their early career.
I kind of hate to say it, but in a way you had to be there!

1 out of 5 stars Very bad stuff.......2004-01-01

I got this cd thinking already having "Don't you want me" and "Fascination", thinking that I would find a hidden gem among the selections. Well, I was wrong, and since the day I own this I have never been able to listen to it in its entirety. The songs are completely boring and do not shine in the new millenium. I'm pretty sure they didn't, even in their era. I think this band is one of the most overrated, completely taking away the attention to much better and more sophisticated bands such as OMD, Yazoo, and New Order. This is not a good buy.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent compilation from one of the eighties finest bands.......2003-10-02

In the eighties, new wave ruled the musical scene. Like disco, the genre peaked only once, and it hasn't done so ever since. Most of the bands were one or two-hit wonders, with very few exceptions. One of the finest and most successful bands of the genre was the Human League. Even to this day, there music still gets played on the radio on a regular basis. Read on for my review of this, the band's hits compilation.

PROS:
-If you just want to get a compilation that has all of the band's biggest hits on it as an alternative to buying all of their items, this is a good choice. Don't You Want Me, (Keep Feeling) Fascination, and Human are all here for your listening pleasure.
-In addition to those big hits, you get a number of underrated masterpieces as well. There's more to these guys than just the big hits!
-As a bonus, you get a remix version of Don't You Want Me.

CONS:
-Many die-hard fans of the band will tell you that this compilation is lacking certain non-single album tracks, and I strongly agree with this.
-This compilation doesn't quite fill the compact disc to its eighty minute time limit. EVERY NON-BUDGET PRICED COMPILATION NEEDS TO FILL THE TOTAL RUN TIME, OR I WILL NOT GIVE IT FIVE STARS, hence the rating of four out of five.
-Let's face the facts, one disc of the Human League could never be enough.

OVERALL:
If you're a casual fan of the band, then I strongly recommend picking up this compilation. These guys were some of the best new wavers of all, and this package demonstrates that point several times over.

Punta del Este Sunset is part of a series of ambient mix discs inspired by rave locations around the world, this one being Punta del Esta, Uruguay. Mixed live by A Man Called Adam, Sunset takes a global approach to ambient music with a pop tinge. Issa Bagayogo weaves an African trance, while the Beta Band affects a pastoral brand of acoustic pop. Beta Band's inclusion in this usually all-electronic domain speaks to A Man Called Adam's willful eclecticism, which on this album also includes Luscious Jackson. Pushing the envelope of ambient chill, AMCA holds them together with seamless segues that break down superficial barriers. They take us from Branda Fassia's joyous African techno chant, "Vuli n' Delia," to John Beltran's tapped bass, digital delay foray, "Collage of Dreams," and AMCA's own "Steady" with its world-weary vocal. Punta del Este has dramatic, if languid, arc: a torrid day burning into a sultry night. --John Diliberto

2 out of 5 stars If you want to go to sleep....................2001-12-27

I bought this CD based on a review sticker on the packaging. This was a huge mistake. NME said that it was the chill out album of the year. Ok, if you like the kind of chill music that you can fall asleep to then yes I agree! Please do not buy this album expecting an Ibiza, Cafe del Mar, or Serve Chilled series sound. The main review at the top of the page is right on - this is more of a global trance sounding CD, not much else.

5 out of 5 stars Great Chill Out Music.......2001-09-19

This is good Gen X chill-out music. Some really beautiful songs on here. I could do without the birds chirping in the background of one of them, but other than that, this album is a stellar compilation. Groovy, modern, yet relaxing...

Album Description

idely regarded as one of the premier selectors in the nation, DJ Heather demonstrates her skills and sharp deck acumen for the massive throughout her hometown Chicago and the world at large with verve and undeniable talent. She has released on several labels including Nordic Trax, 20:20 Vision, and will be launching her own Blackcherry Recordings in May 2005. Heather's also lent her warm voice to many tracks and has collaborations with Brett Johnson, Slater Hogan, Bobby Valentine, Miles Maeda, DJ Colette and No Assembly Required.

For Fabric 21, Heather has created an energetic blend of jacking house, with firm yet groovy beats. Kicking straight in with Marko Militano's "Good People" the positive vibes start building through 2 Or More's "I Got Your Love." With the groove in full swing there are bumping tracks from Mario Fabriani, Kaskade, DJ Mes, and Mike Delgado, as Heather skillfully weaves around organic instrumentals and uplifting melodies. The mix closes on a thumping high with the soulful strains of Joey Youngman into Overtone.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Fine mix CD.......2005-10-20

This is a great mix. It just doesn't stop from beginning to end. As far as I'm concerned Heather can do no wrong. The only reason I gave this mix four stars and not five is because I've listened to "Tangerine" over and over and over. "Tangerine" defines modern house music. I think it even beats the hell out of Farina's "SF Sessions".

I don't think Heather will ever best what she did with "Tangerine", which is actually saying a lot. She set the bar pretty high.

On a side note, after listening to this mix, Hipp-E and Halo, and Craig Richards all put out by Fabric, I can say that I thoroughly trust Fabric's taste. They put out some great stuff, and I will certainly buy Fabric productions in the future.

5 out of 5 stars We need more house mixes like this!.......2005-10-08

I am a Chicagoan and I know what good house music is. Unfortunately good house mixes can be few and far between. Either they are too commercial and wear on you quickly or they are so minimalistic that they put you to sleep. House is supposed to be uplifting, its dance music. Heather hits it right on the mark with this album. It starts kinda chill but as the mix progresses it gathers steam and keeps building. By the end of the set shes worked you into a frenzy and you want more. I know this will be in my CD player for a long time.

5 out of 5 stars Funk at its best!.......2005-05-11

Having heard Dj Heather's other mix releases and hearing her spin live I knew damn well what I was in store for. All I can say is damn, this girl keeps the funk going straight through without a doubt. Theres just something about the way she builds the set, and keeps great tracks going all the way through to the end. I rarely ever find myself not liking a song she selects. I don't know where I'd be without the Fabric series, I'm always impressed with the Dj's. If you want more bass thumping Dubbed out Funk in your trunk go get the mix.

5 out of 5 stars I'll Give it an Easy 5 Stars Myself...........2002-02-08

Yo no lie, this is a quality CD.... The Music is earthy and modern with that ancient indian vein running through it. Its true when the others say no other CD compares to it. Its one of a kind. Can I go so far to say that some of the songs give my soul a warm feeling? No joke about this CD.....

4 out of 5 stars Electronica goes to Machu Pichu.......2000-05-13

This is a mood album filled with various electronic styles including drum & bass, trip hop, trance and dub. The interesting aspect of this CD is the concept of mixing "ethnic" sounds that give it a primitive meets electronica sound. Very trippy stuff that will have you feeling very relaxed as though you were among the clouds in the higher elevations of Machu Pichu. The music is inspired by samples taken from an Incan music recorded album by Inti Raymi a UK band. Lots of pan flutes mixed with all the above electronic elements including vibes, nature sounds and haunting melodies. The CD plays heavily on the dub technique. This a compilation of groups including such heavies as "Trans-Global Underground"and "Fun-Da-Mental" among others. Sometimes the sound is more Eastern sounding as with "TGU's" "Cazares Mix" a sort of Hare Krisna goes to a rave at the Festival of the Sun. "F-D-M" has "Sufi Inca" that has tablas mixed in with flutes, an odd mixture but an interesting musical stew. This is kick back music to listen to when you want to feel in an other worldly mood or mute the sound while watching the Discovery Channel. It could be the soundtrack for an Incan expedition. Just a side note, the cover has an artists rendering of the famous Aztec Sun Calendar, by the way Aztecs are not Incas, they were two different civilizations.

5 out of 5 stars Takes you to another level.......2000-02-25

I have had this CD since I started listening to techno/electronic music (about 4 years ago) and have not found a match for it quality-wise to this date. It is more thought provoking and emotionally stirring than any other CD I own; listening to it is an experience in itself!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent...........2000-02-12

This CD is a skillful mix of trance/ambient and very well done...If you like Sasha/Digweed you will really like this...I listen to this cd very often and never tire of it...You cant go wrong with this one.
