Music for Thinking should be considered a MUST HAVE!! The recordings are beautiful, and can be played continuosly in the backgroung while you are writing, reading, or studying. I find Music for Thinking to be VERY effective and can be played all day long. I use this CD to create a condusive study and work environment!

A nice sound, not enough clarity.......2000-07-11

If you are looking for something to make you think at a higher level, then this is not your album. The music on this CD is familiar to anyone who enjoys classical music. And I will admit that it does provide the correct setting for focusing on a task. I only wish that the clarity of the recording was more pure. The first time that I played this CD I wondered if my equalizer had been bumped; the songs sounded flat. In any event, if you are looking for a nice blend of classical music, something to provide a calm atmosphere, this is an excellent choice.

This is a fantastic album. It's an absolute must for any student or enthusiast of drumming. The snare drum solos on this recording are executed flawlessly and serve as an excellent study reference filling a real void. Mr. Gauthreaux has obviously spent a lot of time working on his craft. There are some wonderful classics performed, including 'Three Camps', 'Downfall of Paris', and my favourite 'Grandfather's Clock'. The sound of the recording is also excellent and very "true" to the instruments used (love that Gladstone Snare). It's about time somebody recorded these solos - great job!!!!

Not All Downtempo, but Some Sweet Electronic/Broken Beats.......2005-03-04

Test Two was a series off of France's Radio Nova label, in conjunction with Wagram music (think Costes, Buddha Bar, Des Pres Cafe, Paris Lounge, etc.) The Nova Test series spanned 4 volumes that I'm aware of and featured some pretty cutting edge and deap electronic tracks.

Test Two is a rather good addition to the series! It starts out with Madeline Bell's "That's What Friends are For". Mind you this is NOTHING like the one that featured an all star cast in the mid 80's. This is totally different... from the old school Madeline Bell track back in the mid-early 70's! The cut's laden with some guitar and touches, but it's rather original. And for fans of the Glucklich series, it is NOT the same as the bossafied one that's on Glucklich vol IV. Other cuts that stood out to me were G. Litter's slower and easy going Seoul 88, maybe a track dedicated to the Olympics? Nice flute, very smooth. Losoul had a cool vocal mix of "Lies - Watch Your Lift". Doctor L.'s "On Every Street" is a cut that has an awesome beat drop in it; tailor made for the base tubes! But the real reason I picked this one up was for Seiji's "Second Nature". It's an alternative take off of a break beat classic, high energy, sweet pace and perfect if sped up a couple tenths of a second. I was also very impressed by the sweet Bjork like track that closed out the cd by Mona Soyoc.

There are other great songs on this cd that were ahead of it's time, but also there were some 'meh' tracks that it could've done without. The second disc is well worth it for the Chateau Flight remix. Certainly recommended for beat heads and fans of French Electronica, which was very underrated in 2000-2001.
