It is a tragedy that Western countries cannot act when it is most necessary and vital.
The world must react to immobility! I know i'm only talking and not acting but if everybody realized what is going in Sudan (among other places) the world probably wouldn't be in this sad situation.

    5 out of 5 stars WWW.WAXPLOITATION.COM.......2005-03-16

IT'S PRETTY SAD IF YOU'RE TRYING TO RESELL THIS CD WITH ZERO FUNDING GOING TOWARDS THE GENOCIDE RELIEF FUNDS. PEOPLE, IF YOU WANT THIS CD TAKE A LOOK AT THIS AND BUY FROM THIS SITE...I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT THE MONEY WILL BE SENT TO HELP WHERE IT IS MOST NEEDED. According to the UN, the conflict in Sudan has created the world's worst humanitarian crisis, with more than one million people driven from their homes and up to 50,000 people killed by government supported militias (CNN 8/31/04). The systematic rape of women and the murder of children has been widely reported.

"We're trying to address two things with this CD," says Waxploitation CEO Jeff Antebi, the album's executive producer. "The first is to get the United Nations to declare the ongoing atrocities a genocide, so that real action can take effect to stop what is obviously an `ethnic cleansing' taking place, in violation of the 1948 Geneva Convention. The second is to raise money for the dire relief situation effecting over 1 million innocent civilians who might die from starvation and disease if aid does not reach them right now."

In 1994 in Rwanda an estimated 800,000 people were killed in just 100 days, in one of the worst genocides of the last century. One of the primary reasons cited for why this happened was a lack of outside intervention by the United Nations. Even with UN troops on the ground in Rwanda, they were unable to intervene because it was not legally declared a Genocide until too late.

Waxploitation will donate all of the profits from the Genocide in Sudan CD to the United Nations Refuge Agency and UNICEF (www.unhcr.ch and www.UNICEF.org ), build awareness for solutions that anyone can easily assist with, including signing the petition at (www.darfurgenocide.org/action.htm), and guide people to protests and events in their area.

The CD will be available at most major retailers as well as at www.waxploitation.com/genocide.

4 out of 5 stars Worthy for the track Sulfur, but all can be found on The Black Sessions compilation........2006-10-02

The "Teargas" EP was released prior to the "Last Fair Deal Gone Down" full length album. It contains only three tracks and runs for only 14 minutes and therefore doesn't sound like such good value. Well there are a couple of reasons why that initial assumption isn't exactly correct. Firstly, each of the three tracks to be found here are great. Secondly, two of the tracks can only be found on this EP as they were not included on the upcoming album. Well, that second statement was true until very recently. But more on that later!

The title track turned out to be one of many great songs on "Last Fair Deal Gone Down". Since it can be found on that album, it's of little interest when reviewing the Teargas EP, although it did serve its purpose at the time which was to be a taster for what was to come. The production had taken another crunchy, more metallic step up since "Tonight's Decision" came out two years earlier and Jonas' vocals are a little stronger than they were previously. All in all, things looked promising the forthcoming album would be a good one and that turned out to be absolutely correct.

But it's the other two tracks that were of more value. Sulfur is just a fantastic Katatonia track! It covers so much of what the band do so well and combines it all into a six minute ripper. It starts off with tender acoustic guitars and harmonised vocals before cutting loose with two consecutive beautiful riffs. The verses are suitably depressing and desolate, while the chorus is both powerful and passionate. If Sulfur has of been released on "Last Fair Deal Gone Down", it would have been up there with "Dispossession" and "Tonight's Music" as one of the best songs on the album.

March 4 is not quite as good as the rest of the EP's high standard, but it's also a worthy listen. These tracks are the first that the band put out with Daniel Liljekvist on drums and what a difference he made. There's so much more percussive variation than in the past and March 4 is a great example of this modification. I think this track plays it a little safe to be honest with the very typical Katatonia riff and weepy vocals. It's just made interesting by Daniel's presence.

So, is it worth tracking this now rare EP down? A year ago I would have said definitely for the track Sulfur alone. But now that the entire EP is available on the compilation "The Black Sessions" which is far more readily available than "Teargas", I'd have to say it's only for the Katatonia fan that has to own everything. And yes, that would be me!

4 out of 5 stars Whets my appetite.......2001-04-29

I was sorely disappointed by "Tonight's Decision," so my inclination was not to buy "Last Fair Deal Gone Down" at all, but I picked up this MCD just to see whether I ought to change my mind. And I have - Katatonia have re-complexified their sound. The busy, crashing percussion is the first thing one notices about the first song, "Teargas." The second thing one notices is a more varied guitar sound; with two guitars Katatonia creates a more spacious rumble in which to embed their characteristic chime-y chords. The next song, "Sulfur" is more in the "Tonight's Decision" mold and is not particularly great, though acoustic sections provide some break from the monotony. The last song, "March 4" is in the "Teargas" vein, with that great percussion and a strange combination of fast tempo with sombre minor chords. I'm going out to get "Last Fair Deal Gone Down" now.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful rhythems, haunting themes.......2004-07-12

Teargas and Plateglass is by far the best thing i have heard from the music industry in ages. Their beautifully done tracks leap off the cd and into your ears to get you in a trance. My friend describes them as "the sort of creepy music you would hear in horror movies, but actually worth listening to"..
Simply speaking, this album is doubly worth its weight in gold.

    5 out of 5 stars beautifully dark.......2004-07-11

teargas & plateglass is simply amazing with their stylistic dark textures and funkadelic rhythms. they draw you in and take you on a thought provoking journey towards the darkest recesses of your mind. it's the soundscape for the not-so-distant future. it's visionary... images from the works of philip k. dick and william gibson fill my head as I listen... it's dirty and broken, menacing and fearless... it sings praises to the microprocessor while it bashes circuitry with a hammer in time with the music... the string orchestra dressed in wrinkled gray garments, faces streaked with sweat and dirt, dragging thin metal bows over custom built instruments laced with new and ancient technologoies which are hard wired into a mainframe to collect the data... the wind blowing through abandoned windowless skyscrapers in tune with the whole movement. my favorite tracks from this album are "an adagio for tandems stacked", "adam's lullaby", "the seduction of canned laughter", and "haengyong"... although all of them are quite good. this is one album that you need to own.

    4 out of 5 stars Darkness Falls.......2004-06-02

This album is nasty. It's full of heavy, dirty, reverberating beats that pound through the speakers. They mix that with low, thick bass lines and beautiful strings to make an amazingly well crafted album. It seems to go back to a dark and hardcore trip hop sound that I have not heard in a while. I picked it up without even knowing who this was and I dont regret one second of it. If you like dark, epic sounding moods with disgusting beats then this is a must buy.
