5 out of 5 stars Positively Hypnotic!.......2007-04-06

This was my very first electronic cd. I picked it up at the local record store on impulse, and didn't expect much. At first listen, it seemed somewhat pretentious, indulgent, artsy... This was my idea of trance music in general at the time. In fact, I bought this album as a challenge to myself: I wanted to give every style of music a fair chance.

After my 30 second scan of each track, I left it alone until one fateful night. My friend Ricky pulled out some nifty little toys called glowsticks! He told me he had been learning how to make interesting light shows out of them, but the only "techno" music he had was a horrible mix tape featuring the likes of alice deejay, t-99, and other outdated rave-monkey acts. I shuddered at every track's rediculous synths and over-enhanced basslines. So he noticed my copy of "Another World" sitting in my cd tower, and suggested we try it.

I was overwhelmed at the difference it made to play this album on Ricky's 6,000-dollar home stereo. I was simply blown away at the darkly hypnotic, and playfully dreamy sounds that were coming out of the speakers. I picked up the glowsticks for my first time and I created something beautiful out of this mix.

And now, 6 years later, I still keep coming back to this mix whenever I need to unwind. Seriously, almost EVERY SINGLE TRACK here is on my list of favorites. However, the two that really stand out to me the most are North Sky and Tears in the Rain. I still whistle the melody of the Vangelis song to my baby nephew as a lullaby, and he loves it.

Summing it all up: These are some of the most intense, uplifting, and soulful pieces of music I have ever experienced. If you have a patient ear, and an active mind... You will enjoy this mix.

5 out of 5 stars Quintessential Oakenfold........2006-09-03

Another World is one of my three favorite Oakenfold releases (Tranceport and Creamfields are the other two) and it's easy to hear why it's so popular among trancers. It has a seamless progression that takes you on a journey of mind-altering consciousness. It allows you to escape to another world. This is Oakenfold at his best.

Enjoy it while you can, however, because Oakenfold is slipping into oblivion under the toxic blanket of fast-buck economics. His demise, I'm sad to say, will rival that of Whitney "Bolivia" Houston.

5 out of 5 stars OAKENFOLD WITH THE WORLD'S BEST TRANCE CD EVER MADE !!!!.......2006-05-21

In this time I will really high recomend something on my life. If you like trance...progressive...vocal...tecno...anything...you should buy this CD...not just only becasue it was choose as the best compilation CD of the century...not because was sold more than 1,000 copies world wide...but because is really...really...good stuff...I high high recomende this CD as the best trance compilation ever that you will listen.

This is my favorite Oakenfold release. It is so original in it's music selection. Awesome driving music.

5 out of 5 stars My absolute favorite Oakenfold CD of all time.......2006-02-19

If you are an Oakenfold fan, you MUST purchase Perfecto Presents Another World. This by far the best compilation he has done and is one of my absolute favorite CDs of all time. Every Oakenfold or even techno/dance/electronica fan should own it!

The transition of songs could not be better. The selection of pieces is fantastic, right down to Delerium and the end of the second CD. If you have never bought anythgin by Paul Oakenfold before, this is the one to start off with - you will not be disappointed. This is how I got hooked on his collections - which I now own 11 of! :-)

From the first heavily produced notes of "Fault Lines" from Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's collaboration with Michael Brook, Bliss dances lightly into a relaxing exercise in musical solitude. Several interesting and notable artists are included in this quilt of choice songs plucked from already-released albums. Among the more interesting of the synthed tunes are Sarmila Roy's "Svetasvatara Upanisad," emitting an eerie, lovely color rooted in Indian classical music; the nocturnal and darkly soothing "Mekong" from Jam Nation; and Sheila Chandra's "Excerpt from ABoneCroneDrone," featuring long, thick synth under her delicate, exotic voice. Holding up the slightly livelier tone of the album's second half is Afro Celt Sound System's "Inion," a melancholy yet punchy little number. With music from Southeast Asia, the Far East, Africa, and Europe, Bliss handsomely meshes the spiritual beyond with the here and now. --Karen Karleski

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A solid compilation..........2001-05-26

"Bliss" is an appropriate introduction into the world music category. For the novice fan of world (such as myself), it serves as a sampler platter of some of the best that is available in this genre. For the seasoned listener, it is a collection of the best musicians in world music. This album is solid. Then again, do you ever expect any less from Peter Gabriel? "Bliss" is a mix of world music that works together to form a euphonious sound experience, despite its' eclectic constitution.

I made the mistake of listening to it in its entirety in the middle of the day as I was finishing up some work and ended up falling asleep before I finished what needed finishing. Unless you are one of those people who solely listen to tribal "sounds of the rainforest"... this c.d. has a sedating effect. However, with the right timing, "Bliss" proved to be an effective salve for the wounds inflicted by everyday life... (i can't believe I just wrote that). It's a great c.d. to wind down to. Because I am not fully acquainted with this genre of music, I cannot begin to describe in adequate terms how wonderful the music is. Just know that it is, indeed, wonderful. Chinese Canon is my personal favorite for its optimistic and almost vocal melody lines. That and it works well with the acoustics in my bathroom, soaring almost and making the 5x10 space seem cavernous.

The melodies transport you and you get a sense of both richly complex mystery and blinding realization. The compilation is an excellent one and thoroughly satisfying. "Bliss" boasts the innovative spirit of ambient and discards the cheesiness of "New Age," making for an excellent world album. If you're just getting into world music, this album is a great one to start off with. If you are, in fact, a longtime listener, "Bliss" may prove to be a bit too jumpy for your taste.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent But Not Quite Transcendent.......2000-09-05

We are the world, etc. Nothing new as far as that goes, of course, but it's great to see such fantastic artists as U Srinivas and Sheila Chandra pushed out a little farther into mainstream awareness. The album's mix is unparallelled and the track selection superb, but unfortunately the collection never rises above the sum of its parts.

It's certainly useful for relaxation and meditation, though I generally prefer the consistent tone provided by a single artist or group. It's also an outstanding introduction to the Real World label and the quiet side (don't say New Age, please) of world music in general. You can't go wrong with Bliss, but make sure to graduate to the full-length albums of the singers and players herein.

5 out of 5 stars Sensational.......2000-03-31

Every once in a while, an album inspires and transends me beyond human senses. This is one such album. Bliss is simply brilliant! Going beyond the realm of just 'world music', this phenomenal compilation takes the listenser to the four corners of our beautiful planet, drifting, floating, astral travelling in a timeless dimension. Enchanting and hauntingly melodic, Bliss will not disappoint those with well tuned ears and an appreciation for simply unspoilt and pure music at its best.

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent CD.......2000-03-25

This CD it really terrific. Some of the pieces, especially Kothbiro by Ayub Ogada, are really beautiful. Some are just dreamy like Angel Tech, and some are haunting like Mekong by Jam Nation. It starts off with a nice piece by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan which runs right into Gabriel's Zaar. In fact the whole album just kind of blurs together since they run one piece right into the next piece, instead of stopping the song cold. A really relaxing and nice effect. All the pieces go well together-NOT a "mish mash of world music" as one reviewer wrote. All the songs are wonderful and don't need to be put into categories.

5 out of 5 stars Stunning.......1999-10-01

There are some pieces of music that seem to transcend being itself. One such piece is "Svetasvatara Upanishad" by Sarmila Roy. One of the best pieces of music I have ever heard, maybe even the best. The word "Bliss" does not even begin to describe it. After listening to this piece I hardly feel like living any more, so tempting it is to just forget everything and let go.
A piece like this alone justifies the whole album. But there are two more excellent pieces here: "Orovela" by The Tsinandali Choir and "Abha" by Iarla O Lionaird. Ayub Ogada and U Srinivads& Michael Brook are also very nice. The rest is the usual uneven "World Music" mishmash.
Buying it just for the "Svetasvatara Upanishad" is worth it.

5 out of 5 stars The Ultimate In High Energy Trance!.......2006-07-06

This is the first mix by George Acosta I've bought, and it won't be the last.

Unlike most of the DJs I like (Tiësto, Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyk), Acosta takes the energy to almost unbearable heights. The tempo used here is higher, the music used is much denser, and Acosta mixes so that the music stays in your face throughout the entire set. This is why George Acosta is the most refreshing DJ around.

The amazing thing about this mix is that all of the greatest elements in trance are here. Although vocals have the least powerful presence here, the ones used are expressive of what the best trance has to offer (besides Born Slippy, which has an odd vocal track in spite of being a good song). From beginning to end Acosta does not let up!

Acosta opens the mix up strong with Amor De Dios. He adds a cool "Lost World" sample over the introduction that is likely to give most listeners chills or goosebumps.

R.E.S.P.E.C.T., Purple Sky, and the Alex M.O.R.P.H. Remix of Vision '05 are amazing anthem trance songs unlike anything I've heard prior to this mix. R.E.S.P.E.C.T. puts you on another planet with its alien melody. I cannot imagine hearing this song in the club... it would be too insane. These songs will pump you up without a doubt. Purple Sky always spikes my creativity on late night drives. Its build and melody always take me to another world. Vision '05 has a repeating, warping melody that amazes me every time.

Some songs on the mix aren't insanely high energy. However, they are dreamlike. The MdG Mix of Asarja by Micro De Govia and Ronski Speed is unbelievable. It's one of the best tracks on the mix. It has a beautiful vocal track and an awesome island time-out with an amazing break-beat. Born Slippy is an impressive song with a vocal track, but I imagine that some will not like the vocal. Honestly, the song is really good. It's not as good of a vocal track as Center with Jon Secada, and it's definitely not as good as the remix of Signum's Come Around Again or Acosta's own remix of I Want You.

I Want You features one of the coolest guitar riffs that I've heard in a trance song, and the beat manipulation near the end of the song is great. The vocal manipulation is stellar. George Acosta's Center ends the album elegantly with Secada's soothing voice and a slow, comforting fade-out. The Dj Danjo & Rob Styles Remix of Come Around Again is the vocal star of the mix. The original mix of this song is classic and so is this remix. This is as good as high energy vocal trance gets. The build will leave you baffled to the point of joyous confusion. The climax is so intense! This is fantastic trance.

The Climax 69 Remix of Reincarnation along with Hennes & Cold's Born Blind lead up to the mesmerizing SI-N+R-JE elegantly. Super8's Cre8 is another fantastic song. Really, every song on this mix is great. There's only one song left to cover then.

Kompressor's Green Martian Remix of Black Onyx is the barn burning, no holds barred, insanely high energy trance masterpiece of this mix. WOW!!! This song... I won't even give it away to anyone who hasn't heard it. Let's just say that the best trance songs tend to have the best builds. This song is one of the best. Thank you Kompressor and George Acosta!

I'd like to note that there are a few flaws in the recording of the mix. Other reviewers have pointed out exactly where these glitches are, so I won't. While only one is long enough to be distracting, none of them are really annoying. They didn't ruin the experience for me.

Georga Acosta's Lost World is easily one of the best trance mixes of 2005. You're not going to find a trance mix like this from any other DJs. This, like the best trance mixes, is a straight through listen.

The Lost World is essential trance! Buy it now.

5 out of 5 stars George Acosta at his best!!.......2006-01-19

"The Lost World" is George at his best! "The Lost World" is nearly perfect from track to track, and definitely shows why George is the Trance Master. Some stand out tracks are: Kompressor, Kyra Vs. Velez, Mindcrusher, and Woody Van Eyden. George's own "Center" with Jon Secada is awesome, and I look forward to their future work together. I would say "The Lost World, "Touched," and "Miami" CD2 are George Acosta's best releases, but every single CD(s) he's put out have been excellent! If you haven't already, definitely purchase "The Lost World"! Probably the best Trance mix of 2005!!

2 out of 5 stars What happened George?.......2005-12-30

What happened George Acosta? What happened to that feeling that was in Awake?
People saying that this is the best Trance album of 2005 are full of it.
And saying that Black Onyx is the best track on here? Ha! That has to be the worst track on here! This track has no melody...just an UGLY repetitive synth that's more annoying than pleasing.
Nothing was memorable in this CD...just a bunch of boring anthems that are easily forgettable. Not even the classic "Born Slippy" could save this.
Although this album isn't terrible...it is defintely NOT the best Trance album of 2005

Please...do not listen to these reviewers...they are only trying to trick you into buying this mediocre album or they just have bad taste in Trance music.

5 out of 5 stars Wowee!.......2005-11-20

I first heard this while browsing in a record store. It was so good I had to stop what I was doing just so I could find out what it was that was making me dance so much around the store. I took it home minutes after and began listening to it. That was the begining of my love affair with this album. There are so many wonderful tracks on this cd! It never slows, and always keeps you on your toes. My only beef with this cd though (and I see I'm not the only one) is that at certain points in the cd there are slight pauses. They're small, but still, annoying. It still doesn't change the fact that this is an awesome cd!

The Amazon listing is a little deceptive. This band is separate and distinct from Nick Bracegirdle's Chicane. Hopefully, I saved you the time and expense associated with ordering and returning it.

(Parenthetically, I am not giving this CD three stars - - I have not listened to this CD. However, I have to give the CD SOME star rating in order to post this message.)

5 out of 5 stars Look out Armin & Tiesto.......2006-06-14

I purchased this CD because I saw them perform at Trance Energy 2006 and was completely blown away. When I put on disc 1, I was stunned and made me feel like i was right there again in Trance Energy. I also liked the two disc style, Cor played it pretty a pretty funy trance and it flows well, then Mark Norman's disc is a more driving mix. My favorite tracks were, Around the world in 80 Days, Mark Norman mix, spun by Cor Fijneman and Brasillia by Mark Norman, both are very talented DJ's and need to seen and heard more, Look out Tiesto & Armin there are some people comming up... SUPERB MIX!!!

    5 out of 5 stars Very Good.......2007-05-01

Love to Love is my stand out track selection. Love it, as with the rest of the tracks. 5 stars in my book...

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing mix of cheesy trance.......2006-02-01

Most tracks on this CD are what I would call commercial cheesy dance music. The best example of how cheesy it gets is perhaps the Scotland the Brave mix. If you are looking for a decent trance compilation with easy-to-listen-to-yet-catchy tracks, have a look at Deep Trance Vol.1...

    4 out of 5 stars A Decent Enough Compilation.......2002-12-31

I don't know what dynomite2001's problem was, but I thought this double CD was good enough that I've put it on frequently over the 6 or 8 months I've had it. There are certainly comps I've heard which impressed me way less than this one did.

It's not fast-beat hard-driving trance/dance/rave music, so if that's what you're looking for you may not be too impressed. Some people equate "progressive trance" with EuroDance, and while the mix here is certainly danceable enough it's probably too mellow and spacey to be considered true club-dance stuff, not that it's lacking in energy or should be considered a "chill" CD. Maybe I just haven't had it turned up loud enough... There's actually quite a variety of styles here, which is maybe why it's an interesting compilation. Some of the vocal songs are almost housey. In a way it reminds me of Deep Dish's Yoshiesque #1, except that it mostly lacks the funk in the mix found there. But it's at about the same energy level.

I thought disc 2 was a bit better than disc 1, though both are pretty equally good. I am knocking it down a star for having a couple of tracks scattered through it which I just have to skip over after having heard `em enough times. I agree with whoever it was who said the standout track was "Greece 2000" by Three Drives On A Vinyl. "The World of ..." series covers probably over 100 titles, and whoever put this together did a tolerably good job overall.

1 out of 5 stars THE WORLD'S GREATEST HEAP OF GARBAGE!.......2001-05-03

You've GOT to be kidding me! I bought this CD hoping against hope that it might be somewhere in the realm of "good". I have never been so dissappointed in my life. If you're into jumped up euro trash and have no clue what "Dance Culture" is about, you might have a nice time tapping your foot to these ridiculous rythms. Being an NYC Clubette Vet! I was there when Palladium closed! This is the greatest heap of garbage I have ever come across in my life! Give it a MISS! PLLLLLEEEESE!... .

    5 out of 5 stars Trance Of A LifeTime.......2001-03-06

If you have heard this album then you know that it is UNBELIEVABLE! But for those of you who haven't then here is what it is like... BAM! In Your Face Sound! Smooth, Hypnotic, Dance Sounds! Everything you can want, or even NEED! This is the best Trance Album ANYWHERE! You will enjoy these CD's all night long, while you are dancing the night away with all of your friends! TWO WORDS! BUY IT! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

The latest edition of this series isn't the revelation of earlier volumes. The ethno-techno, world-fusion sound the series propounded has become part of the mainstream. In fact, it's become corporate. Nevertheless, producer Tom Schnabel still unearths some hidden gems and makes his case for a global music. Among the CD's standouts are bansuri flute player John Wubbenhorst's probing "No Mind," Elena Ledda's Mediterranean meditation "Anninnare," and Irish singer Aoife Ni Fhearraigh. For some inexplicable reason, Aoife didn't catch a ride on the Celtic wave of the last decade and the stacked chorus of her "Seacht Sualici na Maighdine Muire" will have you wondering why she didn't. Hungarian composer Istvan Marta takes a gothic avant-garde turn in a scary piece with singer Marta Sebestyen. That track stands in contrast to American soundtrack artist Jeff Rona's corny, spoken-word soundscape with the idiosyncratic Italian astrophysicist and synthesist Dr. Fiorella Terenzi. Schnabel even finds gold in the otherwise hopelessly derivative M Path with the forlorn, raga-based "The Longing." Although no longer novel, the original message of Trance Planet remains potent. The world is getting smaller, and as long as musicians like Tunde Jegede want to mix the kora of his African heritage with the classical cello, as he does on the haunting "Song of the Waterfall," cross-cultural pollination isn't going away. --John Diliberto

I have the four CD Trance Planet set, after I had bought Vol II on a whim. I was hooked! I knew I had to own the whole series, and this CD definitely rounds out the rest. Trance Planet is World Music at its finest, and Vol 5 is one that every serious world music lover MUST own!! Collect 'em all!

5 out of 5 stars The Planet I Want To Live On.......2000-12-16

This album is such a joy to listen to. It has been in 'heavy rotation' here at my house. While each cut is something special and unique, it is held together by the beauty of the voices and soloists that are featured here, especially Marta Sebastyen, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Aoife Ni Fherraigh, and Fiorella Terrenzi.

I disagree with Amazon's criticism of Jeff Rona's gorgeous 'Musica Estrella'. It is lush, spiritual and mesmerizing. It's orchestral flourishes are heartwarming.

This is perhaps my favorite of the Trance Planet series thus far. I recommend it highly.

      5 out of 5 stars Incredible sounds.......2000-12-06

This CD has certainly been an excellent find. Not having heard of most anyone on the CD somehow made the whole experience of listening to it all the more enthralling. Check out "While the birds sing" on Vol. 1...I've had all my friends listen to it as well and they all say the song rocks! It's an excellent mix of cultures and music and certainly should belong in your CD collection.
