A Fabulous Voice!.......2007-07-03

I first heard Sacha at Borders one day when i was looking at the new Putumayo Radio Latino compilation. I heard her voice and looked all over the latin section trying to find her CD because i was ready to buy it right away. They didn't have it so i went home and bought it online. That was one of my happiest purchases in a long time. Smooth, sultry voice. I love her and she is definitely climbing to the top.
The lyrics are also inspiring if you speak spanish.

Sacha Nairobi, has a beautiful voice, and several of the songs on this CD are amazing, for instance Princesa or "Oye Los Tambores" but I think most of the tracks do a poor job at letting Sacha showcase her voice. It's an enjoyable CD, but it could be SO much better!

Every song on this album is fantastic. With a voice so expressive and lyrics that seem simple at first, but become more and more complex everytime you listen, I put Sacha Nairobi right up there on the top of the Latin music scale. She should be WAY more famous. Each cut has somthing different to offer and Sacha even changes her accent a bit to fit the lyrics she is singing for example on "Los Tambores." And "Puro Cuento" and "Raquel" talk about the trials of love gone bad with a real sense of humor. And let's not forget the ballad "Silencio" - beautiful. And you know if you just can't get your visa to the USA one day, well, just head to my house for a fiesta and forget all your troubles for now. I love this CD and try to listen to it at least once a week, and this is coming from someone with a REEEEAL extensive Latin music collection! You won't be disapponted with Sacha.

Hearing this album is like a taking breath of much needed fresh air. We have been so innundated with "the same sounds" for such a long time in the Latin Market (and for that matter in the Anglo Market) that Sacha's Album is to be celebrated! I want to hear more!

Intoxicating!.......2007-03-22

When I first listened to this CD, it did very little for me. I was expecting something a bit less gentle/subtle.

But now -- about a year later -- it has become part of my nightly ritual. I start it up and let it carry me away from the day's stress and aggravations. It is really good for getting into that meditative place that feels so wonderful after a busy day.

Sometimes I will even wake up in the middle of the night and start it playing so that it fills the place with beautiful sound.

I will be looking for more compilations like this one and hope the collaborators responsible for this will be working on more recordings.

I have listen to this fantastic album many times now and I have to say it is a wonderful cd to relax too. My favourite track is track 8 I would recomend this cd to anyone even if you dont normaly like classical music. I congratulate this duo and would love to see this remasterpiece performed live at the Royal Albert Hall...

I adore this cd more than I can put into words. Sacha Sacket is a word smith and an amazing artist. You can feel his soul pouting into your car or home via speakers. Put the CD on and get lost for hours in its great songs, beats and feelings. Thanks for making great music!

Permanent Fixture In My CD Player.......2005-06-15

I was caught in some horrendous traffic but it didn't matter because I had Shadowed to keep me company. I never tire of Sacha's soothing voice, insightful lyrics and gorgeous piano melodies. "The Prodigal" is a favorite of mine--Sacha's falsetto in the chorus is a perfect moment in music. I can be having an awful day but hearing that song always makes me feel relaxed.

Sacha Sacket is one of the astonishing undiscovered jewels of the music world that needs to be found. I happen to have seen this Artist live in St. Cloud, Minnesota for a Conference, it funny really because he helped my friends and me to find where the open of the conference was being held. He was putting up signs for his performance later that night. I didn't think much of the performance because I thought it would have some songs that didn't go any where with me. My God was I wrong, all his songs him me, hard. I'm glad I showed up to see him preformed. He even has a good sense of humor, he opened with the best cover I heard...Britney's "Hit me baby one more time..." the crowd loved him.

Getting to his CD, people have the misconception that all of the music on the CD is depressing. But the reality is, songs like the one on "Shadowed" are coming from the heart and can't be put in some `pop' or bubbly format that we hear a lot in mainstream media. It feels good to connect to some of the songs that are on the album and know someone is singing the similar things I went through. I would describe how I connect to every song, but I want to keep this short. There are times where I connect really deep with the song and sometimes I listen to the music itself. He writes and composes his own stuff and find that amazing. There is so much heart behind every note he plays and every word he sings.

The Future is Shadowed.......2005-04-05

Seeing him live is a whole other experince but once you hear him for the first time you become a life long fan. Sacha Sacket's latest cd doesn't focus on his sexuality but draws listeners in on a more emotional level. Although the album may seem depressing and morbid at times, it make the atmosphere calm and serine. The track Desire has a classical piano with a techno undertone. Could this be the future in music?

A Remarkable Man & Artist..........2005-03-17

Sacha Sacket's new 'Shadowed' album delves down into secret places the haunted tread. He sings of unrequited love (a popular theme throughout the disc), addiction, the dark places we all fall from time to time, and somehow, through the desperation and desolation, he lets you know that even still, he's a man who will no doubt emerge changed and better for it all. This is a lush and exquisite album, marked by his piano driven melodies and his gorgeous, anguised baritone. His voice on this album drips with something visceral, a real kind of pain. On the album's closer 'Palestine', when he sings "I don't have to be the white knight/I don't have to give the good advice/I don't have anything left to fight/It's true" with his beautifully wavering voice, it's as if he's seen too much, and just before throwing in the towel, he realizes he doesn't have the be the fighter anymore, but just accept whatever's coming his way. He's been called a "male Tori Amos" but I'd say (to me) he's more a "male Sarah McLachlan". But then, Sacha Sacket can really draw no true comparisons. He's his own man, and his own artist. It's a beautiful and bewildering world, but music like his makes it worthwhile. And we're all the better for listening...

Sacha Perry is a young pianist who's made a few appearances on record--notably with Across 7 Street, a band whose debut disc recently appeared on the Smalls label--but this is Perry's first disc as a leader. It's an intriguing mix of originality & overt stylistic borrowing. His playing is very much in a Bud Powell idiom--dark, hypnotic chording on the heads, incredibly detailed, fast linespinning for the solos. Not that it's all Bud--I can also hear Elmo Hope, Thelonious Monk, Rodney Kendrick (Kendrick & Perry are friends), Barry Harris, maybe even Frank Hewitt (another Smalls artist) in there--but it's all roughly in that Bud area. Perry rarely has a fingerslip in the way that Powell often did, but he's not slick in the usual postbop manner: the results sound authentically beboppish without being a stylistic xerox. Perry doesn't have the capacity to surprise or electrify in the way of Powell at his best, but there's a compensating grace & shapeliness to his solos.

Perry's originality is most evident in the tunes, all originals, which have a completely unique take on harmony & chord progressions--I was frequently put in mind of Herbie Nichols ("Let's Get With It" is pretty close in flavour to a quirky Nichols minor-key tune like "Cromagnon Nights"), though the Bud influence comes out again on "Desolation", with its echoes of "I'll Keep Loving You". The main thing is that these are _tunes_, not just sets of chord changes--many of them downright catchy (after a few spins of this disc I can already sing half of the melodies).

Perry's accompanists are the bassist Ari Roland & drummer Phil Stewart, both of whom play admirably. Roland has already made notable appearances on several other Smalls CDs; this CD, though, is a good place to catch him because the sound engineer this time round seems to have caught his bowed-bass solos particularly well (on earlier discs the results were often scratchy in a Paul Chambersish way; on this disc the tone is far smoother). Not an earthshaking album, to be sure, but it's one that you'll return to a lot. One of my favourites of the year so far.
