A mixed assemblage of European artists is represented on State of the Nu-Art, Volume 2, a compilation of mostly exclusive-to-the-U.S. electronica that includes the work of Plug (Luke Vibert), Mike Paradinas (mu-Ziq), and Witchman. The more eclectic stuff steals the show: the Bowling Green's "Astrakhan" runs through a heavy disco vibe, the drum & bass of Plug's "A Hot One" can't stop riffing off new-agey organ chord (the joke does hold up), and Mung's "La Creme De La Grem" goes electric from a humble violin solo start and never looks back. Paradinas sets the comp's tone by starting off with "Summer Living Pt. 1," a tune dosed in video-game sound effects that's ready for either the dance floor or the headphones. You decide. --Jason Verlinde
