Amazon.com essential recording

There are many, many Andrew Lloyd Webber albums out there, including cut-and-paste compilations and songbooks from individual artists, most notably Sarah Brightman, Michael Crawford, and even Jose Carreras. The Premiere Collection is probably as authentic as you can get in a hits album, however. In addition to the most popular selections from the original casts of Evita, Cats, and Jesus Christ Superstar, the 57-minute album includes two selections from Tell Me on a Sunday (also recorded by Bernadette Peters as Song and Dance), the title tune from Starlight Express, the "Pie Jesu" from the Requiem, and a snippet from the Paganini Variations, thereby allowing you to hear the good stuff without having to spring for the complete albums. Note that the three selections from Phantom of the Opera are the 1986 pop singles instead of the cast recordings, meaning Steve Harley rather than Crawford sings with Brightman on the title tune and Cliff Richard subs for Steve Barton on "All I Ask of You." (Crawford does sing "The Music of the Night," of course.) This 1989 compilation was too early for Aspects of Love or Sunset Boulevard, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is ignored, but these omissions are rectified in the follow-up album The Premiere Collection Encore, and the American-slanted version, The Very Best of Andrew Lloyd Webber: The Broadway Collection. --David Horiuchi

4 out of 5 stars Musical Pleasure.......2007-07-03

I enjoy all of this music, listening frequently. Some not original cast members, so less than 5 star. Product exactly as advertised.

5 out of 5 stars The Premiere Collection.......2007-01-17

My sister had this and it got destroyed. She wanted an other, This was the only place I have found it!! Very hard to find! I have been to every music store in my area. She loved it!! And was so happy to have it again. Anyone who loves Andrew Lloyd Webber will love this. As it has many songs from some of his most famous plays with the original cast. Great item.

5 out of 5 stars beautiful.......2006-12-21

This CD is a great compilation of some of Andrew Lloyd Webber's hits. If you are just looking for a "quick fix" for your Broadway craving, this is a great value.

5 out of 5 stars Fair Album with 1 starlight and 0 aspects.......2004-07-09

I think this album is F-A-I-R because it has one starlight express song and zero aspects of love songs. This is why i liked the album The reason i said that this is a fair album is that I like Starlight Express better. Song i like are "The Phantom of the Opera", "Take That Look off Your Face", All I Ask of You", "Don't Cry For Me Argentina", "Mr. Mistofflees," "Superstar," "Memory", "Starlight Express", "Tell Me On A Sunday", "Music of the Night", "Another Suitcase in Another Hall", and "I Don't Know How To Love Him". I dislike the following songs:" Track 6" and the last one because the last one was hard to understand and track 6 is instrumental.

5 out of 5 stars Superb collection.......2003-08-11

... It is a collection of the best of ALW's creative efforts, and a collection of great performances. Anyone who loves "Broadway" should have this disk in their collection.

Album Description

This is the one fans have been asking for. A recording that contains the hilarious and completely captivating tale of Dirty Joe, a pirate who steals socks, and his equally odious sister, Stinky Annie, who steals underwear. Also on this record is an audio version of "Joey, Chloe, And The Swamp Monsters" (previously only available on the video, "Who Made This Mess"), "The King Of The Clams", and the song story, "Bow Wow Wow".

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars very lively, imaginative. tolerable for adults!.......2007-06-07

The stories are fun, and relate to kids' emotions/feelings etc. And he is talented story-teller too. Nice, intelligent sense of humor kids can relate to.
I played it in the car. My 7 year old who only likes classical music enjoyed it, and my I-can't-stand-kids-stuff husband did not protest...!

5 out of 5 stars Storytelling at it's Best.......2007-03-17

I bought this CD for my 20 month old grandson and not only did he love it - I did too! I keep it in my car's CD player and more than once caught myself listening to it when he wasn't in the car! It is captivating.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest CD EVER.......2006-07-22

Ok, maybe that's hyperbole. But how do you describe a CD that LIVES in your car CD player? Kept company by the 5 OTHER Bill Harley discs that live there too, of course.
This is the disc that I give at every kid birthday party I go to. It's the disc that I like to listen to without the kids. It's the disc that is worth the price alone just to have the free-verse number about the dog. This is the best money you'll spend this year on music. What are you waiting for?

5 out of 5 stars Great CD!.......2006-07-22

I enjoyed this and listen to it sometimes with no children around! However the children talk about the stories and will listen to them over and over again to the point of knowing dialog. Lighthearted and entertaining, you will find yourselve humming the songs. You can't go wrong with any of Bill Harley's work!

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely hilarious and captivating....for all ages!.......2006-07-07

My grandsons, age two and four, have insisted that this CD find its way into the house from the car stereo! Totally amusing and laugh-out-loud funny. Engages the visual imagination like old-time radio shows. A hands-down hit with omomm, mommy, daddy, auntie HaHa and Uncle Go-go-Gus. Superb wit and performance.

5 out of 5 stars Fun CD!.......2007-01-16

This CD has lots of fun songs that are creative and the whole family will enjoy. We checked it out so many times from the public library that we finally went out and bought it!

5 out of 5 stars Didn't think it possible for the whole family to guffaw at once...........2006-12-06

All of Bill Harley's CD's are great, and this one is a favorite.

You get what you expect from Bill Harley - it's singable, suitable, interesting and makes you think. And it's really funny. The kids love it, the tweens love it, the adults love it.

We have three children - ages 5, 8, and 10. We play this in the car during long, LONG car trips, and the time passes quickly. Or at least it passes without WW III breaking out in the back seat.

Really looking forward to his new CD - the one that has Barbie's Head is Missing - due out in Jan, 2007. Heard that song in concert, and it's hilarious.

I can't understand why this guy's name isn't a household word.

5 out of 5 stars BILL does it again..........2006-08-02

Another great, fun CD by BIll Harley. Full of fun songs that have the whole family singing along. My oldest at 17 and my youngest at 8 are such Bill Harley fans and so are WE. This is a great CD with many fun songs. Adults relate to these songs as much as kids. Enjoy this CD and all others by Bill Harley. You can't go wrong buying Bill's work for hours of entertainment...they make great gifts, too...

5 out of 5 stars Macaroni & Cheese.......2006-07-22

We love this CD. The songs are easy to sing along and the kids always start dancing. I can't make macaroni & cheese without singing the song. Great for trips in the car, fun time and just connecting with your inner child if you can't find one around to listen with you!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Harley Davidson Road Songs.......2006-10-25

This is an excellent collection of classic rock songs associated with the open road and a free spirit, just like Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

3 out of 5 stars Some hits and misses.......2005-09-20

As a long time motorcyclist, I was hoping this would be a collection of the greatest riding songs ever. It's not. Bob Segar's ROLL ME AWAY and Bon Jovi's DEAD OR ALIVE are not here. It blows my mind that none of the Harley CDs have ROLL ME AWAY but do have Segar's AGAINST THE WIND, which has nothing to do with riding motorcycles. I might of missed the point, but if it's a Harley CD I'm expecting more songs that are about riding or refer to motorcycles in the song.

4 out of 5 stars Great Party Music.......2005-08-15

This is great music to listen to while you sit around and party with your friends. For me it brings back memories of younger days. We do own a Harley, but to enjoy these tunes, it's not necessary. It's also good listening for just hanging out with the one you love.

4 out of 5 stars This Rocks!.......2003-07-30

This is a great CD! My only complaints are "Sacred Ground," which doesn't rock, and "Ridin' the Storm Out," which would be ok if it was the live version. But it's not. Other than that, it's the perfect CD for a road trip.

5 out of 5 stars Wrecking Opinions.......2002-11-08

Awesome CD! That outta the way, this CD is the best compilation of songs I've seen in thirteen and a half years. There's nothing quite as good as listening to Radar Love, I Can't Drive 55, and On The Road Again all on the same disc set! And the songs on this album, even the mistitled Devil Went Down To Georgia (As I remember it it's called Deuling Fiddles), every single one of them, beats anything you could hear on "Today's Hit Music Station". Now, this is my personal opinion, and actually has to deal with a post on the reviews, but Mean Streak needs a life and a few spelling lessons. Sounds to me like Mean Streak is a disgruntled rice-burner boozer with a taste for music about as deep and broad as my pinkie toe. Just my opinion. Oh, and this album is a must-buy.

5 out of 5 stars The BEST artist for kids (and adults)..........2006-08-02

We discovered Bill Harley when my son (now 17) was 2 years old and we bought a cassette tape (yes a cassette) of Monsters in the Bathroom> We wore the tape out and have been to many of his concerts for both kids and adults. When my youngest was 2 we bought this CD for her as she loves music. We have listened to it more than I can count. It is infectious and we all love the songs. My oldest even still says - Let's listen to BILL. This is my favorite song CD as it has a few songs with nice lessons and a few just fun songs. ENJOY and THANKS BILL

5 out of 5 stars We Love Bill!!!.......2006-07-23

Our family has almost every one of Bill Harley's tapes/CD's/books and we absolutely love him!! Our oldest son, who is now 14, started out listening to Bill's tapes, then his little brother joined in. Now the boys have a sister, and the oldest brother said we needed to update our cassettes and get Bill's CD's because his sister needed to be "brought up" on Bill Harley too. It takes alot to make my husband laugh, and even HE laughs out loud at the stories and songs!! You CANNOT go wrong with Bill Harley!

    5 out of 5 stars A Favorite.......2006-01-03

Bill Harley is one of our 2 favorite childrens musicians (and we're picky). Our litmus test is that the parents have to enjoy the songs as much as our children, and this CD more than passes. Our other fav is Joanne Hammil (Pizza Boogie & World's Gonna Listen).

5 out of 5 stars My Daughter can't get enough.......2003-11-25

We had the pleasure if hearing Bill tell stories. My daughter is a bit young for that, so I purchased this CD. Big Big World has got to be her favorite. We could go a whole car trip listening to that one song. (Usually thought I can talk her out of it) Her next favorites are "Sitting down to eat "and" Moon and I." Dad's favorites are "Cool in School" (I like to harmonize with it) "Dad Threw The TV Out The Window" (not that I ever would do that, but there are funny, funny lyrics) and "There Goes My Brother Again" (again, funny, funny, lyrics)

As a parent this is a wonderful album that I can listen to with my kids, and it doesn't get old or annoying.

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent Kid's CD!.......2002-12-04

I 1st heard Bill Harley on NPR and knew that my quest for a decent children's CD was over. I've bought several before and usually liked maybe 3 songs (like Bob Dylan singing "This Old Man") and ended up selling them on Ebay or here on Amazon.

There's only one song I don't care for, it's too long and annoying, with a refrain "you're not the boss of me". Just what I don't want my kid to learn but I can't even help myself but repeat the words it's so catchy.

I'm going to buy more from Bill, you can bet on it. My 2 yr. old & I will be dancing around the room together and singing along with it.

    Album Description

First time on CD for this legendary funk/jazz/old school Bagpipe-lead-over-hot-band album from 1972. Rufus was a saxaphone player who also picked up the bagpipes for a few excellent 60's albums for Atlantic Records, and although those albums are great, this 1972 independent album is a real mind blower! The original LP lists on E-Bay for $150, and this CD adds a 10 minute track not even on that album! Also reprints all the original ultra-spiritual liner notes in an 8 page booklet, with superior graphics. 2006 is the year of resurrection for Rufus: besides several reissue projects for Transparency (including his guest appearance on the Sun Ra DVD Volume 4), he is being reissued on individual CDs in France, and an east coast label is compiling all of his Atlantic-era albums into a box set!

    Customer Reviews:

The world lost a great one this year with the passing of Rufus Harley. He took his bagpipe to the world of Jazz and made it work! Oh if only it could always be that "when worlds collide" the result is something as transcendent.

    5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Album.......2006-12-07

You know you've found a winner when you enjoy singing along. Bill Harley gives us good tunes, great lyrics, and a good time with the kids. Sometimes I listen to this when I'm by myself! Heart-warming and toe-tapping. Give it to any new parents you know.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES.......2002-11-21

We caught Bill Harley quite by accident at a free concert last spring, and since we have seen him twice and have 4 of his tapes/cd's. The way he understands the way kids (and adults) think is wonderful. Big Big world is by far my family's favorite. There's so much variety in the music, and something to appeal to different ages (mine range from 2 to 10). He is one of the best kids singer/songwriters out there! Definitely buy this CD! (and if you have the chance to check him out live, I'd recommend that, too!

5 out of 5 stars Big Big World.......2001-01-13

My kids love to have "concerts" when friends come over. Bill Harley's disc Big Big World has become our favorite. My 5 year old son really gets into the spirit complete with costumes and props. Every child and parents, after the concert, asks where they can get a copy of such a great disc for family enjoyment.

5 out of 5 stars The Best in Children's Music.......2000-03-13

As a professional nannie, I have always believed in the value of music. I discovered this album by accident, and it is my favorite. I even listen to it when I'm by myself! I like Bill Harley's understanding of how children think and see the world around them, and above all, his wonderfully wacky sense of humor. He trully appreciates children, and never talks down to them. Thank you, Bill Harley, for wonderful hours of musical entertainment for all ages!

5 out of 5 stars Our Family Loves Bill Harley.......2000-03-08

Bill Harley's 'Big, Big World' is a pleasure for both children and parents. He has a knack for writing songs from a child's perspective. My personal favorite song on this CD is "Who Made This Mess?" My children love "Pizza Shake." I am amazed at Harley's ability to write songs in so many different styles from Cajun to country to blues to gospel. He is a gem, I am glad we discovered his music!
