Part 3 Was a Great Step.......2003-12-10
I will say this - this particular chapter was a VERY erratic in terms of quality. You had some awesome bass, break and bossa tracks but then you had some IMO dull cuts too. Soulstance has a pretty funky track with their "Mutantes", taken from their CD titled "Act On" along with their breezy remake of the Lalo Schifrin cut "The Aftermath of Love". You also have label resident Nicola Conte's "Jet Sounds" coming on - a great promo to his cd that was released in the same year. And you can rarely go wrong with Truby Trio - especially with the electric cut "Carajillo", which was a sort of staple to the "nu-bossa" sound from 2000 on. Kyoto Jazz massive of Compost has a solid cut in there as does the Bobby Hughes Experience anbd a cool Tosca cut. But some of the other tracks involved? eh. You skip them, and unfortunatley that makes it tough to say you can put this in and play it from beginning to end wihtout hitting the "FF" button on the remote.
All in all, I'd recommend this. Especially if you have the other Break n' Bossa cd's. But for this time, 2000 on thru 2001, there were some other cd's released that may have been just as good, if not better. For instance, Boss-A-Troniq vol 1 has some of the better of this, and better tracks in general. Brazilectro 1+2 were out here too, and Glucklich vol 4 sort of seems like a perfect companion piece to this, but then again the Compost relationship with Schema probably is pretty strong. Enjoy!
Not up to par with the other volumes.......2001-10-12
Thankfully, the acid lounge caper "B & S" by Bobby Hughes Experience dishes out some zest. Truby Trio, sharp rat-a-tat drums to the fore, whip up some energetic dance fare as well. Taken as a whole, however, Break N Bossa 3 lacks that spunk, or tres-cool chic, to match any of the other volumes.
Best of the series so far. Buy it!.......2000-12-20
