Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Part 3 Was a Great Step.......2003-12-10

I really value the previous reviewer's opinions on tunes. However for this volume of Idizioni-Ishtar (Schema's) Break n' Bossa series, I actually dug this release. In fact, this was the one that really got me more into the franchise. The Break n Bossa series spans to six volumns now with the most recent one being released in May of 2003, and while the current issues feature almost strictly Schema acts and have evolved into almust pure nu-jazz fused with electronica, the older ones (1-4) feature acts from all sorts of labels and are IMO a bit more innovative.

I will say this - this particular chapter was a VERY erratic in terms of quality. You had some awesome bass, break and bossa tracks but then you had some IMO dull cuts too. Soulstance has a pretty funky track with their "Mutantes", taken from their CD titled "Act On" along with their breezy remake of the Lalo Schifrin cut "The Aftermath of Love". You also have label resident Nicola Conte's "Jet Sounds" coming on - a great promo to his cd that was released in the same year. And you can rarely go wrong with Truby Trio - especially with the electric cut "Carajillo", which was a sort of staple to the "nu-bossa" sound from 2000 on. Kyoto Jazz massive of Compost has a solid cut in there as does the Bobby Hughes Experience anbd a cool Tosca cut. But some of the other tracks involved? eh. You skip them, and unfortunatley that makes it tough to say you can put this in and play it from beginning to end wihtout hitting the "FF" button on the remote.

All in all, I'd recommend this. Especially if you have the other Break n' Bossa cd's. But for this time, 2000 on thru 2001, there were some other cd's released that may have been just as good, if not better. For instance, Boss-A-Troniq vol 1 has some of the better of this, and better tracks in general. Brazilectro 1+2 were out here too, and Glucklich vol 4 sort of seems like a perfect companion piece to this, but then again the Compost relationship with Schema probably is pretty strong. Enjoy!

2 out of 5 stars Not up to par with the other volumes.......2001-10-12

Schema Records have released a lot of good bossa-dance albums in just a few short years. This isn't one of them. The lesser acclaimed artists serve up songs that are more than a wee bit twee (Soulstance), with a few seemingly aimed to test your nerves (Les Gammas' scattered vocal "La Vie Des Anges"). Even stalwarts Tosca and Nicola Conte offer unremarkable pieces.

Thankfully, the acid lounge caper "B & S" by Bobby Hughes Experience dishes out some zest. Truby Trio, sharp rat-a-tat drums to the fore, whip up some energetic dance fare as well. Taken as a whole, however, Break N Bossa 3 lacks that spunk, or tres-cool chic, to match any of the other volumes.

5 out of 5 stars Best of the series so far. Buy it!.......2000-12-20

One of the best, if not the best, modern electronic bossa inspired compilations out there. If you are a dj, this is a necessity, worth every cent!! Features releases from labels like Compost, Schema (who released this), Mr. Bongo, Ultimate Dilemma, G Stone, and a few more. Includes artists rather well known in the genre (nu jazz, etc) - Truby Trio, Les Gammas, Tosca, Soulstance, Nicola Conte - along side lesser known - Artless, Kanoe and South Copa. If you aren't a dj and wondered what cool groovins they were playing in that lounge/bar somewhere "downtown", then this is the compilation for you. Enjoy it!

5 out of 5 stars ciao.......2000-10-30

After the success of the first two volumes, words seem unnecessary to introduce Chapter 3. The compilation contains quite a few unreleased tracks. Some are from the forth coming releases on the Schema label, they include two tracks from Soulstance, "Mutantes" & "Aftermath of Love", their album will be released in October. "Jet Sounds" by Nicola Conte from his forthcoming album in September. Unreleased tracks include Japanese artits Kanoe - "Blind Mice" and contributions from South Copa "Delicado" and Artless "The Chaser".

5 out of 5 stars Reflects today's club jazz scene!!.......2000-09-06

This album is very good for first choice when you want to feel real groove of today's club jazz. Nowadays, club jazz scene is more and more borderless. This album refrects it, Japanese, Italian, British musicians are compiled. Especially 'Mutantes' is massive and cool sounds, 'Soulstace' should be paid attention for club jazz lovers.
