4 out of 5 stars not sophisticated and overly complex egghead tripe.......2007-01-12

If your looking for something overly-complicated and pretentious in concept, steer clear of this one. This would have gotten five stars if it was a bit longer, since it clocks in at only about twenty minutes. Anyhow, the music on here sounds a bit dated, though very well produced. I've got almost all of Bochum Welt's stuff, and this doesn't stray too far from his other efforts. I personally love the first track--very dreamy eighties-style pop with vocals. The rest of the cd is a beauty as well and the slight sci-fi feel is obviously intended. I think some electronica heads need to relax and loosen up, open their minds some. Yes, it is retroish but is certainly not bad by any means, not even remotely!! I listen to lots and lots of music, much of it elecronic, and once again, this is some great stuff. I highly doubt that Bochum Welt would release anything "crap". It's just too bad this little gem of a recording doesn't fit into some nerd's narrow view of what electronic music should be. Anyway, great for driving and daydreaming to.

1 out of 5 stars Wow, Surprisingly Bad.......2005-10-15

I second Mr. Sadat's opinion on this one. I have some of Bochum Welt's earlier stuff from Rephlex and it's actually pretty good. I figured a newer album by him would be more complex/interesting/mature, etc., so I bought it blindly. Holy cr*p is it bad. I understand that the use of some retro/lo-fi sounds can be very interesting when weilded with some proficiency and artistry, but this album gives me the impression it was made by a kid using a General Midi setup for the first time. It really is horrible, horrible music.

Now, I can't help but notice a correlation between Bochum Welt and his studio buddy, Thomas Dolby. I've been a fan of the latter for a really long time, and he went from genius to cr*p, genius to cr*p, with his albums, too. Like, what was the deal with the Gate to the Mind's Eye thing? Hadn't Mr. Dolby heard all the other electronic music that had come out in the previous five decades, and how cr*ppy his music sounded next to it, or even his own music from, say, The Golden Age of Wireless? In other words, there seems to be something sinister in the water at Beatnik, Inc., that makes electronic music sound like cr*p.

1 out of 5 stars Who cut the cheese?.......2005-10-04

Bochum Welt did. I should have known better than to order a CD without listening to it first. To mention this in the same context as Bogdan Raczynski and Aphex Twin is reprehensible. The only use I could think of for this CD, (other than a coaster), would be for a cheesy science class film for 1st graders. Even then, the sounds really aren't interesting enough...
The first song was absolutely horrifying! I wanted to throw it out of my car window immediately, only I just had to keep listening to it out of sheer morbid curiosity.
I really wish I didn't buy this. I don't want to encourage production of such rhythmic refuse ever again!
Sigh...it's your money...it's up to you.

5 out of 5 stars - Music to chill with -.......2000-07-30

I first bought this album cause it was by Bochum Welt, and we all know that his music is hard to come by. However, i didn't really get around to listening to for quite a while. I was bored of listening to my Bogdan, Aphex, µ-ziq collection and popped it in. After the first listen i realized that its a really good album. Its short, so you cannot get bored of it, and kind of a departure from previous works. In the past he has been known to use pure analouge synths. With this album he uses only computers. Short songs and nice melodies backed by soft core beats make this a valuable effort.
