Product Description

One of the several new groups formed after Prince disbanded the Revolution. Madhouse was fronted by saxophonist Eric Leeds. Critically acclaimed - ultimately spawned a sequel - and then a solo career - but "8" is the definitive work of Leeds music. Track listings are simply titled "One" through "Eight"

5 out of 5 stars Madhouse 8 = Prince In A Jazzy Mood!.......2006-03-10

'Madhouse 8' (1987, Paisley Park/WEA) is a SUPER RARE collectable for Prince fans, without question! Back in 1986-1987, Prince was behind so much music (including Madhouse, Jill Jones, Mazarati, Sheila E, as well as his own CDs!), and 'Madhouse 8' is still a breath of fresh air. Madhouse was comprised of Prince, Eric Leeds, Dr.Fink, Levi Seacer Jr, John Lewis, and the great Sheila E. This rhythm section created 8 jazz tracks, but the radio friendly 'Six' just had Prince written all over it (just Funky!). As for 'Madhouse 8', it's 8 tracks don't justify the cost of the CD ($25.00 and up!), so I expanded it with a few RARE bonus tracks! Collectors should try adding the following songs for a better experience:

9. Six (End Of The World Remix)
10. Six 1/2 (B-Side)

I also created a special 2 on 1 CD featuring BOTH 'Madhouse 8' & 'Madhouse 16', plus a BONUS TRACK from 1988, 'Madhouse 17'(Penetration). It's a shame Warner Brothers won't reissue this great music, but if you're going to invest in 'Madhouse 16' (or any of these rare CDs!), you should get more out of it! 'Madhouse 8' showed is a very interesting chapter from the glorious past of Paisley Park! NJOY!

5 out of 5 stars Great CD! Great For Prince Fans! NOT worth $100!.......2005-06-05

To sell this item at this price should be outlawed. Buy the vinyl if you REALLY must own it.

It is a must have for ALL Prince fans, as it is a magnificent album and features Prince in one of those musically shifting phases. This stuff essentially leads up to Parade and what follows. BUT you can find the vinyl for about $9.00.

It's instrumental jazz/ funk fusion. Nicely done, but I reiterate that $100 is highway robbery.

Hopefully NPG does a reissue one day.

5 out of 5 stars classic prince.......2004-09-22

when i was in germany i picked this album up. still one of my fav prince albums. alot of people really slip on his pure genuise. but the true fan knows m jackson an all the wanna bes that came after the purple one, cant hold a candle to him. mj was bad...but prince is a king.

5 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!!.......2004-09-07

'Madhouse 8' is an unbelievable album! All the more so after one learns that Madhouse is actually....PRINCE?That's right-
Madhouse was an outlet for his royal badness's more abstract,
jazzier experiments! Each song is numetrically titled and features a blizzard of great instrumental chops, notably Prince's
jazzy piano work! For anyone with any doubt as to Prince's
credibility as one of the most eclectic artists in the past half
century PICK THIS UP!I was lucky enough to optain the even RARER
vinyl edition of this album and I will say aside from it's
great album cover this all instrumental record is something that
Warner Brothers should reissue ASAP (or Prince should on NPG)
because it's an example of what a purely brilliant musician
Prince really is outside his better known pop persona!

5 out of 5 stars Madhouse 16 = Prince In a Funky Jazz Mood.......2006-03-10

'Madhouse 16' (1987, Paisley Park/WEA) is a SUPER RARE collectable for Prince fans, released the same year as the more subtle 'Madhouse 8'! Back in 1986-1987, Prince was behind so much music (including Madhouse, Jill Jones, Mazarati, Sheila E, as well as his own CDs!), and with 'Madhouse 16', he decided to add FUNK to his jazz mix. Madhouse 16 featured the same players from the previous project (Prince, Eric Leeds, Dr.Fink, Levi Seacer Jr, John Lewis, and Sheila E), and they created a more accessible project this time around. Also of note are a variety of brief snippets of dialogue from 'The Godfather' movie, which are used between tracks. When listening to 'Madhouse 16', it becomes obvious that Prince wanted to tap into his regular fanbase as well as the jazz heads. As for 'Madhouse 16', a measly 8 tracks still doesn't justify the cost of the CD (sometimes more than $25.00!), so I expanded it with a few RARE bonus tracks! Collectors should try adding the following tracks for a better experience:

9. Ten (The Perfect Mix)
10. Thirteen (The Paisley Park Mix)
11. Ten 1/2 (B-Side)
12. Ten (The Perfect 10/7 Mix)
13. Thirteen 1/4 (B-Side)

'Madhouse 16' showed us another interesting chapter from the glorious past of Paisley Park! NJOY!

5 out of 5 stars I Loved It At Age 12 and Now At Age 30.......2006-01-19

It was unusual back then for an instrumental album to be released by one of the biggest names in music but I'm glad it was. Eric Leeds is one of the best musicians ever. Check it out if you get a chance.

5 out of 5 stars Great Jazz Album from Prince and Eric Leeds!.......2004-12-06

Great collaboration from Eric Leeds and Prince. Instead of releasing the Black Album back in Dec. 1987, Prince released this album instead. On Madhouse 8 it sounds like Prince did all the instruments (except sax) but on this album it is definitely Sheila E on the drums which takes the intensity to another level. If you find this on CD its probably a bootleg, its better to find it on vinyl

4 out of 5 stars A neglected master.......2002-04-10

This album of Bernard Herrmann film scores, performed by Esa-Pekka Salonen and the LA Philharmonic, is truly astounding in the SACD format. Selections range from The Man Who Knew Too Much, to Psycho, from Marnie to Vertigo and from Fahrenheit 451 to Taxi Driver. Listening to this music you discover a power that few composers have been able to inject into their compositions. If you've seen any of the films from which these selections are taken, close your eyes, the movie plays in your mind and you'll realize the extent to which Herrmann was a cinematic musical genius. His music perfectly captured the mood, ambience, story and characters of the movies he scored. This recording is a true delight. Highly Recommended.

    Album Description

Greg Palast NY Times bestselling author and award-winning investigative journalisthas spent the last thirty years getting the goods on the corporate con men, political hucksters, and "free-trade" gurus who would auction off your children's future to the lowest bidder. Greg Palast Live from the Armed Madhouse, a follow-up to Weapon of Mass Instruction (Virus 312), is Palast's most provocative and caustically funny yet. Armed with over fifty classified documents, confidential memos, and secret plans liberated from the Pentagon, FBI, World Bank, and ExxonMobil, Palast cuts through the TV news baby-talk. It was Palast, for BBC TV, who first uncovered how Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris stole Election 2000. Harris calls him "twisted," and here's the new twist revealed in this CD: Palast tells you that Kerry won in 2004 and 2008 is already fixed. Palast's reports have been exiled from America to British Broadcasting Corporation's top current affairs show, Newsnight, and England's Guardian newspapers. Author of the New York Times bestseller, The Best Democracy Money Can Buy, Palast turned his skills to journalism after two decades as a top investigator of corporate fraud and racketeering. Awards bestowed on his work include: George Orwell Courage in Journalism, Patron of the Trinity College Philosophical Society, Guerrilla News Network's Guerrilla of the Year, and many more. This speech was recorded in 2006 at the Fletcher Lounge, University of Tampa.

This release should silence any and all individuals that complain about skimpy soundtrack releases, this edition contains every piece of music in the film.

And no one should ever forget that Bernard Herrmann was one of the all time great composers of film music, and his score for Psycho was his most famous work. Although copied and parodied countless times since it was first heard, nothing has everycome close to its blood chilling power. No film soundtrack library would be complete without it.

4 out of 5 stars Good for what it is.......2003-05-26

After the last greatest hits compilation of Anthrax material, "Attack of the Killer A's", didn't go down so well with older fans of the band due to a surprising lack of older material, another compilation featuring only older material was pretty much a no brainer. "Madhouse: The Very Best of Anthrax" may be no more than a record company's attempt to cash in, but it does offer a fine selection of some of the band's best older material. Yes, "Ball of Confusion" isn't here, but we get "Antisocial", "Caught in a Mosh", "Indians", "I Am the Law", "Belly of the Beast", the uncensored version of "I'm the Man", and naturally "Bring the Noise". If you already own all of Anthrax's older albums, there is no point in owning this; however if your looking to get into the band, this along with "Attack of the Killer A's" is a good place to start.

    5 out of 5 stars It's a madhouse, or so they claim...........2003-05-06

Next to "Attack Of The Killer B's", this is a great "Best Of" collection from the NYC thrashers. It includes some of their greatest songs from their early days (with Joey Belladonna and Dan Spitz), from the albums Spreading The Disease, Among The Living, Perception of Time, and others. All of the songs have been remastered and they all sound GREAT. I think this is a great CD to buy if you're just starting out on Anthrax, or want to hear what they sound like remastered. Yeah, it was released by Island, but so what? If you like bands in the vein of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, do yourself a favor and pick this one up. It's a good best-of from one of the most underrated bands in history. Recommended.

4 out of 5 stars It's not totally comprehensive, but..........2002-11-24

I'm a huge Anthrax fan. Always have been. But I was kind of conflicted with this one. I knew that this CD was a big faceless corporate record label trying to cash in on a great band. But what did I do? I cracked and bought it.

Here's my approach: I accept the record for what it is. It's a compilation with a bunch of great songs on it. It may be missing "Ball of Confusion," as so many here have noted, but I'm thinking of what it does include.

It's got "I Am the Law," "Indians," and "Caught in a Mosh," from arguably one of the best metal recordings ever, "Among the Living." It also has the uncensored version of "I'm the Man," which I so enjoy. And probably my two favorite songs the band has done, "Antisocial" and "Belly of the Beast." And it's got that great cut with Public Enemy, "Bring the Noise."

I give it four stars because it's not officially licensed and it's not 100% comprehensive, so in theory it should be a three star recording, but the quality of the songs chosen warrant an extra star.

4 out of 5 stars Mosh Mother [truck]ers!!!!!!!!!!!.......2002-05-31

MOSH MOSH MOSH MOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is definatly the purpose behind this cd. Don't think of it as island's way to get spare change from old school thrashers. Instead think of this as the most kick @** Joey Belladonna Anthrax songs crammed into one cd for your moshing pleasure. But even though it's not that long as AOTKAs and doesn't contain "Ball of Confusion". It does contain "A.I.R."*, "Armed and Dangerous", "Caught in a mosh"*, "I'm The Man (the def uncensored version)", and more than one song from "Persistance of Time". In my opinion this cd contains THE BEST era Anthrax there is. But if you disagree get AOTKAs. I know I did and i'm happy both ways around.

    3 out of 5 stars not complete.......2002-02-03

Madhouse is an attempt at a greatest hits album for anthrax but falls short because many of the bands greatest songs like antisocial and ball of confusion are missing. Try getting Attack of the Killer A's instead.

          Album Description

A reissue of one of England's greatest purveyors of 80's AOR. Originally released on the Granite label, this was the band's only album without Tony Mills at the vocal helm. Replacing Mills is 'Wardi' who has gone on to enjoy further fame with Oliver/Dawson's Saxon. Produced by Neil Kernon (Dokken, Queensryche). Features two previously unreleased live tracks, 'Money' & 'It's Only Rock 'N' Roll'. 2001 release.

4 out of 5 stars Short on songs but deep in grooves!.......2003-01-09

If you're here you probably have heard some of the other albums put out in this collection ( black ivory, fatback band, etc... ). This CD was probably the greatest surprise for me out of all of them. Each song is packed with great grooves and funk lines that will leave you in awe as they blend Sly and James Brown, just to name a few, in a style that becomes their own. With the raw Detroit production of early Funkadelic classics, this one will find a way to keep making it into your playlists.
