With over 15 acclaimed films to his credit, actor Jared Leto knew he had a challenge in creating a legitimate musical group, and the fact that a great many gifted thespians have pumped out some pretty awful albums hasn't slowed him at all. "Any time you have a precedent that's negative like that, you're gonna have an uphill battle," he agrees. "I've never shied away from that." Yet 30 Seconds To Mars' self-titled 2002 debut easily established the group as a fresh, new force, revealing a multi-faceted outfit that thrived on creative exploration and escape.

Three years later, their follow-up, A Beautiful Lie, catapulted the group to even greater success. Where the debut's line-up featured Jared on all guitar, bass, synth and vocals with brother Shannon on drums, a full collaboration developed with A Beautiful Lie, including guitarist Tomo Milicevic and bassist Matt Wachter. "The last thing we wanted to do was make the same record twice," Leto explains. Hundreds of tour dates and a 1996 MTV Nomination for "Best Video" later, 30 Seconds To Mars are proving their stability and still challenging their position. "We're interested in being as modern as we can," Leto concludes. "We're striving to do something different, to look forward rather than back, to be free from the shadows of our inspiration, and to continue, with our voice to make our mark."

4 out of 5 stars great album.......2007-07-28

Well first of all try to understand my bad english (I'm italian). This album is a better project that the first 30 seconds to mars ones, lyrics and music are very well connected and structured, every song is really enjoyable. Over all the voice of jared leto is better than in the other album, less experimental and more warm and rich, with various emotional blending. The kill is one the best songs of the album with really intense concept. Listen all the album, it's a really good job.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Ever.......2007-07-13

I became a huge fan of 30STM after seeing Jared in the video "From Yesterday". I immediately ran out and bought their album; A Beautiful Lie. It is amazing. Being close to 50, most of my friends are surprised that I took to this group, but I found that age doesn't count when it comes to rock music. I introduced all of my friends to their music. I bought their first album,"30 Seconds to Mars" and couldn't believe that as outstanding as the album of the same is, that "A Beautiful Lie" surpassed it. It is without a doubt an album to own not only for your listening pleasure but to keep in your collectors section. PROVEHITO IN ALTUM. Realizing that they also had an album (of the same name (A Beautiful Lie), with a video included, I had my daughter quickly purchase it for me. I love seeing the videos. "A Beautiful Lie" pass it on.........

5 out of 5 stars Great songs, Great sound, Great Band. .......2007-05-31

A Beautiful lie is my first 30 Seconds to Mars CD. After listening to it thoroughly, I can't wait for their next album.
Every song has a different sound to it, which makes the CD even better because you really can't put a certain theme on it--I like that.
I especially like 'The Kill', 'A beautiful lie', 'Attack' and 'From Yesterday', but that is not to say that I dislike any of the other songs: each one is fantastic in its own right.
Appart from Panic! At the Disco's Debut Album, "A Beautiful Lie" is my favorite CD of 2005.
With this album, 30 Seconds to Mars has won itself a good position in my highly-coveted (at least I think so) list of favorite bands.
Anyone who wishes to spend some money on some quality rock-punk-emo music, should definitely look no further.

1 out of 5 stars Protected CD - DO NOT BUY.......2007-05-23

Consumers should know that this CD is a DRM protected CD and will not be able to be read in most computer CD-ROM drives along with certain regular audio CD players. I recently purchased this CD only to find out that I could only use it in the car and an old CD player I happened to still have.

Like most people I usually rip my CD's to MP3s and do the majority of listening either at my computer or on the go with my MP3 player. This isn't even a remote possibility. Do not support companies and bands that restrict consumer's rights!

This is a Virgin Records CD.

3 out of 5 stars Different from their first album; energetic rock with some pretensions.......2007-05-22

The good:
- Interesting song topics - far from the standard concerns of pop/rock. Leto is interested in internal battles, progress of life (fitting for an actor, I guess)
- More variety between and within songs (tempo, topics) than the first album
- Some catchy hook songs like From Yesterday and Attack
- Less noise and more music
The bad
- Verges on pretentious at times
- There's still no guitarist capable of a good lead to sustain the songs - sometimes songs just feel incomplete
- Jared's vocals are still somewhat marginal, not really skilled, rather just enthusiastic
- Doesn't have quite the intensity of the first album
Somehow I found this a bit forgettable - there was nothing I disliked, and some good songs, but I only listened to it a couple of times.

Incidentally - I really like the "addon" track Hunter as it is quite different from the rest - more mellow, quietly intense - and Leto doesnt do any screaming in it ;) Battle of One is also OK.

Awright, den. Karl Childers's alter ego arrives on his fourth solo album mired in memories, awash in tears for too many lives and relationships that ended too soon. He's mournful for the war and the misguided politics that begat it, for a friend who suicided out, for a woman who broke his heart, and for a boy who died too soon. Unlike its predecessors, Beautiful Door seems stuck in a time warp of the '60s and '70s, from which it draws much of its lyrical inspiration and musical framework (folk, country, and roots rock, all a showcase for cowriter Brad Davis's eloquent, punch-in-the-gut guitar playing). Billy Bob Thornton doesn't so much sing as speak over music, his gravelly Arkansas drawl occasionally sustaining pitch long enough to approximate a melody. But his forthright vocals here owe more to The Edge of the World than to the whispery Private Radio or Hobo, though guest Graham Nash is so underground (on three cuts) you'd need a Geiger counter to find him. As his own producer, then, Thornton puts the focus squarely on the songs, which seem the private writings of a man who lives an intensely insular life, not an internationally known actor/director. Ghosts float across the ceiling throughout--the leadoff track, "It's Just Me," takes the point of view of the suicide who refuses to abandon the living, while the second song ("Restin' Your Soul") tells the same story from the companion left behind. Two other confessionals ("I Gotta Grow Up" and the winsome "Hearts Like Mine") may reference ex-wife Angelina Jolie. If the social commentary of "Pretty People" arrives DOA, Thornton turns drolly novelistic on the honky-tonking "Carnival Girl," an encounter with an unusually confident midway worker ("Her bottom lip and both ears were linked by chains/She even had a tattoo on her aura"). Consider Beautiful Door another strange visit with an artist who isn't afraid to put himself on the line. --Alanna Nash

Album Description

A collection of twelve tracks, BEAUTIFUL DOOR, is a lyrical, sonic story about life and death, beginnings and ends. A blend of roots rock, country, and folk, the musical genres Billy Bob Thornton has always loved most, BEAUTIFUL DOOR is the follow up album to his third solo release in 2005, HOBO -- and like HOBO, BEAUTIFUL DOOR is a collection of songs Thornton intended to have listened to as an "album," in its entirety. "The album had to have a sequence. And even if it's not an A+B+C song type of story-- BEAUTIFUL DOOR is still a sonic landscape that both musically and lyrically flows from one track to the next."

5 out of 5 stars Great.......2007-07-28

The first actor-gone-singer that I feel is worth listening to. This guy writes good music with very intelligent lyrics. Also, he is not just another shallow Hollywood member.

Every song here is great.

5 out of 5 stars Love this album.......2007-07-26

As a country music lover, I was pleasantly surprised when I listened to Billy Bob Thornton's latest record, Beautiful Door. I've already listened to it over and over, and enjoy it more each time. It's easy to hear that music is Billy's true passion - his talent really comes through in the awesome music and great lyrics. Even if you didn't like Hobo, or some of his other albums, check this one out. I promise, if you appreciate good music, you won't regret it. Defnitely a "5." No question.

5 out of 5 stars He's really done it this time.......2007-07-24

Hard to believe it's been this long, but "Private Radio" was my favorite record that came out in 2001. Thousands of listens and several copies later, that album has not lost one ounce of punch and I still break it out frequently. "Edge of the World" (2003), despite a few flaws, was by far and away my favorite. I loved the story it told by weaving together so many different styles and it still stays on heavy rotation in my truck or on my ipod. I thought He could never top that one. There was a certain magic going on that could have had to do with the personal drama he had going on at the time. It was (and still is) one of the most ambitious albums, in my opinion, since Willie Nelson gave us "Red Headed Stranger". Unfortunately, it wasn't as well recieved as it should have been. The combination of so many styles kinda threw people off, and the mere fact that Billy is not what one would call a "crooner". His voice is exactly what it should be for the songs that he writes. Their sorta mini-stories about (or told through the perspective of) the everyday folk. The guy or gal who takes your money and gives back your change at the local convenience store. That one guy that no one seems to notice, sitting alone at the end of the bar staring at a half-empty bottle of High-Life. The lonely. The misunderstood. The brokenhearted. The downtrodden. Their all there. It's the same sort of approach that he used when he wrote out the characters in "Sling Blade" and "Daddy and Them". It all translates seemlessly into his songwriting and delivery.

"Hobo" was a unique and great effort in its own right. It was on a smaller scale and with that one, he found a certain vibe and stuck with it. The theme was about California being "the new frontier" and it was sorta semi-autobiographical. It all resulted in a wonderfully re-playable and rewarding record that played oh-so-wonderful late at night with the candles lit and a fifth of rum (or maybe a little Purple Passion). I was still so wrapped up in "The Edge of the World" it took me a good year to really appreciate its greatness.

With "Beautiful Door", he's finally done it. He's made a classic that will stand the test of time and serve as a time capsul for the era. I'm happy/sad to admit that he did the unthinkable (for me, anyway) and topped "The Edge of the World". This time out, he co-wrote with Brad Davis, handled vocals, drums, and production on his own. If you've been there for the last three records, then the first thing you will notice is that everything is tighter. Tone wise, it's similar to "Hobo" with more of a 60s and 70s vibe and it rocks a little harder and a lot more frequently. His vocals are a bit different. I can't make any comparisons because I can't think of anyone that sounds like him. He's certainly found a vocal style that is more versatile and distinctive, and 100% his.

"Beautiful Door" isn't what I would call a bonafide concept-album, but all of the songs do flow together, despite covering such a wide variety of styles. The theme here is a lot broader than "Hobo". The lead-off track, "It's Just Me" is a song about suicide told in first person and "Restin' Your Soul" is the companion track told through perspective of the person left behind. Very unique and oddly comforting. "In the Day" is a look back to how we all remember our younger days as being more innocent even though the world was still far from it. "Hearts Like Mine" is perfect for radio play and will, I'm pretty sure, have a few people wondering just who he is talking about. "Always Countin'" is already one of my faves. It's about OCD and it's dead on. One of the boldest statements on the album comes in the form of the album's most rocking track "Hope For Glory". And it's awesome.

It's probably fair to say that the scope on "Beautiful Door" is on par with "The Edge of the World", even if it doesn't tell one specific story. The varitey is there too, without killing any of the vibe. Needless to say, it was well worth the wait and it's his best album yet.

It's been a long ten years since Take That disbanded. Their recent reformation and world tour offered overwhelming evidence that, far from being forgotten, the post-Robbie quartet can still command hysterical amounts of goodwill and adoration. Beautiful World illustrates why this is so. Written in conjunction with songwriter/producer John Shanks (Ashlee Simpson, Anastacia, Alanis Morissette), the album is crammed full with the songwriting magic that made their rise to fame so meteoric in the first place. Far from being an exercise in nostalgia, the project moves the band in a slightly new direction. The four come across as more mature, more democratic (all members share songwriting credits on the album, rather than just Barlow), and even more adept at making epic pop that somehow avoids the cheese factor. Lead single "Patience" is a perfect example of how powerful and accessible their songs can be. It'd be a good contender for the album's peak moment if the rest of the tracks weren't so damn good too. With traditional Take That style songs (the immediately likeable "Reach Out", the brimming "Like I Never Loved You At All"), nicely punctuated up by incongruous outings like Jason Orange's folkish "Wooden Boat" and Mark's upbeat, Beatles-esque "Shine", Beautiful World sets a whole new standard for a band previously known more for their singles than their long-players.--Danny McKenna

    5 out of 5 stars Beautiful World.......2007-05-25

All I cansayabout this album is that Take That has changed alot. It more mature and for all earlyer Take That- fans, this is not for you. But on my conpinion i think the earlyer Take That was a bit nerdie.

5 out of 5 stars I wouldn't have been caught dead listening to a boy band!!.......2007-05-02

But, this is really amazing. I was barely familiar with these guys because I listen to a lot of American and British indie/alternative until my friend said "Remember that song 'I want you back for good' "
    Uh...sort of.

After hearing Patience I was hooked and this album is great. Age and experience has served them well.

4 out of 5 stars Take That, welcome back...for good!.......2007-04-30

Move aside Westlife, Justin Timberlake, and Backstreet Boys.

The greatest boy band of our time Take That have returned with a big bang.

Beautiful World is That's 4th studio recorded album, not counting the compilations. It's a nice collection of mellowed-down ballads along with some foot-stompers and crowd-pleasers.

The Manchester boys have grown up. It's been 10 years since the time Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald, and Jason Orange announced that they were parting ways -Robbie Williams ditched the band months earlier and ended up being the most successful of them all, he does not return to the lineup this time around (it's his loss really). The overall feel and sound of World reflects the boys' maturity and self assurance. It also symbolizes the first time the boys share songwriting duties: Gary Barlow isn't the sole writer, Mark, Howard, and Jason all are credited; Jason debuts as a lead singer on the fantastic album closer Wooden Boat.

The album opens up with the breathtaking Reach Out, a beautiful ballad and future single, that reminds us why we loved Take That in the first place. The UK Number 1 singles Patience and Shine are simply awesome, the latter written and sung with conviction by Mark is probably one of the best pop songs I've heard in a long time, while the former is sung by Gary with such an infectious passion; Patience is technically Gary's first hit single in about a decade. Mark's Shine is the most upbeat song on the album with a beat that is similar to ELO's Mr. Blue Sky, with Beatlesque harmonies and an incredible chorus; the music video to Shine includes references to The Beatles' Your Mother Should Know video. Howard's radio friendly self-reflective Mancunian Way, a potential single, is a cool song that will eventually grow on you after a couple of listens, while the feel-good title track, Beautiful World, features one of the best harmonies the boys have ever produced. Gary's lovely ballads Ain't No Sense In Love, another potential single, Like I Never Loved You At All, and the first group effort I'd Wait For Life produce a nostalgic sense of how great it was being a fan of Take That in the 90's. Mark's What You Believe In is an elusive bluesy pop-rock number. Finally, Jason Orange's breakthrough Wooden Boat is a country influenced acoustic number (Jason actually has learned to play guitar and write songs over the 10 years that passed), and turns out to be one of the highlights on World. There's also a bonus track that appears shorty after Boat fades out titled Butterfly, a sweet catchy ballad written by Gary.

Beautiful World might not be as great as Everything Changes or Nobody Else, and Take That might not be as young and exciting as they were once. The album does lack the typical Take That dance and upbeat tracks along with the piano-driven ballads that made past efforts much more balanced. However, their return with this album deserves a very warm welcome. I'm sure the fans will agree!

So I will end by saying: Take That, welcome back...and hopefully, for good this time!

This come-back release for Take That is absolutely superb. You would never have guessed that they were ever gone from the music scene for the past few years. The tunes are right on with today's hits yet it retains the sound that made the group a hit in the past. You would never have guessed that Robbie Williams is no longer a part of the ensemble. Take That is positively right on.

Very good quality reproduction, and enjoyable to listen to the full length movie soundtrack again.

4 out of 5 stars MacRae and Jones head a superb and O.K. adaptation.......2007-03-16

The film adaptation of Oklahoma heralded a technological breakthrough in widescreen cinema just as the original stage musical ushered in the integrated book musical. As such this film adaptation was treated as a special occasion, well-supervised by the creators themselves. The soundtrack, featured here, boasts sterling performances from MacRae and Jones making the most of their portrayals of Curly and Laurey, backed by a charismatic cast and superb orchestrations. And of course let's not forget the enveloping stereo sound that holds up well even today.

Despite being a Hollywood star, Gordon MacRae performs the part of Curly as if he was born to play it even on the stage. He shines vocally in his renditions of Oh, what a Beautiful Mornin' and Surrey with the Fringe on Top. He is well-partnered by Shirley Jones as a fresh and pert Laurey, lending her beautiful voice to the part. Although we don't hear much of her on this soundtrack, her partnering MacRae in People Will Say We're in Love exudes a masterful chemistry, as if they were setting sparks off at each other in their rendition of the song. Gene Nelson makes a dashing Will Parker and is equally well-matched by Gloria Grahame as Ado Annie. Grahame renders I Cain't Say No splendidly and partners Nelson in All er Nothin'. The supporting cast is filled out by Charlotte Greenwood's suitably caustic Aunt Eller and Rod Steiger's Jud. It's a pity that the film cut the song Lonely Room, otherwise Steiger would have better demonstrated the dark hues of the character of Jud. Yet it all adds up to a wonderful renditionh of this classic musical, enough to elicit a spontaneous YEOW! during this year of the Oklahoma centenary.

This EMI-Angel reissue offers one the advantage of the dance music and the main titles. This means that the listener gets the Kansas City and Farmer and the Cowman dance sequences, as well as the extended Dream Ballet. The only downside is the extraneous sound effects lifted from a DVD copy of the movie. Yes I share many of your sentiments that these sound effects tend to grate, and long for Didier Deutsch to have used the original untainted studio vault versions. However, let's at least be thankful that the CD producers have offered us a more comprehensive version of the Oklahoma soundtrack that we could only have dreamt of in the past.

In short, this is a wonderful and valuable addition to the R&H discography, and is an equally celebrated rendition of the score like the original Broadway cast recording. Warmly recommended to those who seek even their first version of Oklahoma.

5 out of 5 stars Broadway in a movie setting at it's very best!.......2007-03-06

I have the original Broadway version, but prefer this movie selection.
The CD is flawless and, in my opinion, there's nothing better than a Rodgers
and Hammerstein musical for music, lyrics and pure joy! This is the best!

Yes, the original version of that FM oldie "White Bird" is included on this CD. Formed in 1967 by former symphony violinist David LaFlamme, this popular group plowed through all of the San Francisco Sound's clichés at once: organ, fiddle and drum solos; epigrammatic sayings about love, time, and dreams that are so cheesy they would make a Hallmark hack blush; the soft-part-that-heads-steadily-toward-the-crescendo part; incongruously pieced-together prog-rock songs that plod on for way too long; off-kilter male and female singing; and a near-total lack of soul. This 1969 recording, then, is a clear blueprint of what not to do in psychedelic rock--with the exception of "White Bird," which retains a sheen of innocence and melodic oomph despite its daft, repeated utterance that "she must fly!" This reissue has a bright, clear sound and excellent separation; it will more than please fans of the original LP. However, those looking for an equal to the best works of Moby Grape, Quicksilver, and the Dead are encouraged to seek elsewhere. --Mike McGonigal

    Customer Reviews:

    4 out of 5 stars Innovation and Musicianship, It's A Beutiful Day.......2007-07-22

David LaFlamme was one of the first, if not THE first to use an electric violin in rock music. This is an outstanding example of the vast range that "rock" music encompasses and how musicians of that era, (the late '60's), were willing to push to envelope of the time in regard to what was "acceptable" for radio. Three minutes was pretty much the time limit of anything that could get airplay. Also, the use of a violin as anything but a "sweetener" was pretty much unheard of. While not every song on this album is a top forty smash, they all have some redeeming qualities and some, most notably "White Bird", "Hot Summer Day" and "Girl With No Eyes" are extremely good for both their musical quality, vocals and the ability of the band to create a genre that simply didn't exist before them. While "White Bird" may seem a bit tired to some ears in this day and age, it is most likely because of all the airplay it has received over the years, and there is a valid reason for that...it really is that good. For an excellent feel for the Woodstock era, this is a must have for anyone interested in good music.

5 out of 5 stars PATTI SANTOS was the original vocal!.......2007-07-14

PATTI SANTOS Santos was the original vocal on the original recording. Her voice was so unique and beautiful that no one since her untimely death will EVER be able to duplicate. For some reason, there is NO mention of Patti in any of these reviews OR on LaFlamme's website. I wonder why that is? PATTI SANTOS was what made It's A Beautiful Day what it was. Yes, the violin is very pretty, but I can always listen to Jean-Luc Ponty. I'm afraid that without PATTI SANTOS on vocals and percussion, IABD will never be the same. Just a good example of how it's never as good as the original. I do, however, think all of IABD's albums are excellent masterpieces. The LaFlamme solo albums are good too. Fortunately, we have the beauty of PATTI SANTOS' vocals on those albums. It's kinda like trying to recreate "Close To You" by the Carpenters with another singer other than Karen Carpenter--it can't be done. These were unique, beautifully gifted artists who were one of a kind and are still missed to this day.

3 out of 5 stars Two Great Cuts, One Nostalgic Cut, and a Lot of Garbage.......2007-07-13

Great cut: Hot Summer Day: unique, superb mix of instruments (violin, harmonica, keyboard, and electric guitar), nice vocals (the lyrics are kinda dumb, but that's part of the 60s), fantastic build up...everything that characterizes a great 60s song. The last few intensive notes end this song beautifully.

Great cut: Bombay Calling - a wonderful violin driven instrumental that makes you bounce in your seat.

Nostalgic Cut: White Bird (yup. I'm that old). Great to hear it, but it makes its point and then pounds you to death with it

OK Cut: Girl with No Eyes (what is this song trying to tell us?)

What's with the rest of this junk? It's either painfully harsh or just downright boring. Amazon reviewer Mike McGonigal hit the nail on the head. This album is everything that's right and wrong with the 60s music.

    4 out of 5 stars Memories.......2007-03-19

I had one of the songs off this CD stuck in my head for weeks. I finally got my song fix and it was great!

5 out of 5 stars I don't know about "the San Fran sound", but I know IT'S A BEAUTIFUL SOUND..........2007-02-23

This album was recorded well before I was born so this review will not be based on subjective and biased memories...though I wish I could have experienced this band back in that era because a lot of great music was created back then. I am not familiar with the so-called "San Franscisco sound" but I do know of other bands in this era such as Jefferson Airplane, the Doors, King Crimson, and Procol Harum (these are bands I mention because I think elements of their sound can be heard in It's a Beautiful Day).

BEAUTIFUL!!! That word really does describe this album better than anything else in the english vocabulary. The cover of the album reminds me of the movie 'The Sound of Music' and the music is pure genius. Take a typical 4 peice 60's band (bass, guitar, drums, vocals) then add keyboards with psychedelic sound effects, a very talented violinist, a female vocalist, and a variety of other instruments...combine all this with gorgeous melodies, poetic lyrics, and progressive song compositions = BEAUTIFUL!!!

I won't take the time to dissect every song but I will make mention that "White Bird" really is as wonderful as all the other reviewers have made it out to be. Other highlights for me were the psychedelic and very catchy melodies of "Girl With No Eyes", the distorted guitars and upbeat tempo of "Wasted Union Blues", the guitar licks and harmonies of the instrumental song "Bombay Calling", and the diverse and crazy "Time Is" (almost 10 minutes in length and includes a great percussion solo). There is really no filler on this album and David Lafamme's voice is just as moving as his violin. As the lyrics of "Bulgaria" suggest: "Open up your mind!"

    BEAUTIFUL!!!

RECOMMENDATION: As mentioned earlier in my review - fans of the Doors, King Crimson, Jefferson Airplane, or Procol Harum should dig this music. If you are already familar with It's A Beautiful Day then those aforementioned bands should be part of your music collection as well. Also highly recommended is the band Camel's 1975 instrumental masterpiece entitled 'The Snow Goose'. See my profile for more suggestions.

Comparisons generally stink, but sometimes they're so obvious that they're inevitable. So it is with L.A. native and blue-eyed soul man Robin Thicke. Equal parts Remy Shand and Jamiroquai--though funkier than the former and less knuckleheaded than the latter--Thick's Cherry Blue Skies staggers through the speakers with moxie to spare. Opening track "Oh Shooter"--which finds Thicke drawling lazily while tires screech in the background--is a bait-and-switch for what's to come. By "Sugar Mama," Thicke is outfitted in the proverbial white suit and fedora, slinking around the edges of the groove and wailing in a falsetto like some funk-soul cat from the '70s. Levity plays an essential role in the formula, too; "Make a Baby" is as silly a love song as its title suggests, and "When I Get You Alone" steals wholesale from Walter Murphy's disco-era novelty hit, "A Fifth of Beethoven." But the dance floor is only one destination in Thicke's view. Earnest ballads also appear (notably, the sweetly sentimental, minor-chord lament "The Stupid Things"), and one is again inclined toward another comparison, this time to Stevie Wonder. Funky, jazzy soul-pop, with a touch of salsa in "Vengas Con Migo"; that's as accomplished as it is welcoming. --Kim Hughes

    5 out of 5 stars Smooth...................2007-05-14

As a percussionist, I really appreciate music that provides a smooth groove. This album definitely does a good job of that. A classic R&B feel with a new funky vibe.

5 out of 5 stars Had to get it.......2007-04-21

I am newly into Thicke and had to buy up all his music. This cd is great, funkier and younger. Fantastic R&B.

    5 out of 5 stars A New Favorite!!!.......2007-04-12

if you looked past this album thinking "another Disco remake"...u were sadly mistaken! Nice intro for one of music's future voices. This cd had me from the begining track "o'h shooter"..."let's make a baby" makes me think Beatles...Jamiroquai and Prince are naturally going to be artists Thicke will be compared to and hopefully with time and more great music he'll have earned it...when i get you alone was the song pushed on the radio but that's just one style he displays. Disco meets dance and parties with Funk is this guy's style!!! love the tracks "the stupid things" ..."She's Gangsta" and he goes to a Latin theme/flava on "vengas conmigo"...i love this whole album! sweet, smooth vocals...Robin Thicke is much more than Alan Thicke's boy!!!

    5 out of 5 stars I LOVE THICKE.......2007-03-28

I don't know what took so long for everyone to catch on to Robin Thicke cuz his music is great!!!!

    5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2007-03-21

I actually purchased Thicke's first album, The Evolution of Robin Thicke, before I bought this one. They are both completely different sounding albums, maybe it was the haircut. But Robin Thicke has THE best voice I have EVER heard from ANY artist. I can't believe there is even one negative comment about this album. How much better can R&B get people??? If your disrespecting this album then your reviewing the wrong genre of music. His range and variation of styles from song to song are amazing. Oh and lets not forget this is his first album!!! If you love upbeat r&b and a great voice i promise you you'll like this. Don't read the less than 5 star reviews, your just wasting your time.

I absolutely love the songs on this album. They have impacted my life. Just a couple days ago, I heard Everything to Me for the first time, and I had to go out and buy the whole album. If you know anyone who has been or needs to be impacted by adoption, let them hear this song. If you can, let them watch the video online. As a mother to three adopted children (which we have open adoptions with the birth families), it is such a blessing to have a song that can thank the birth mothers for their incredible gift and that can let people know that birth mothers don't abandon their children, they love them forever. Thank you, Mark, for your ministry. May the Lord bless you.

5 out of 5 stars He has done it again!.......2007-04-08

This CD is just awesome! In some ways it is very different from Mark's other CDs, but at the same time it includes several story telling songs that have made me cry, like the others he has put out.

After 3 years of hearing partial versions of "Walking Her Home", it is finally finished, and done masterfully.

Mark is a very personable artist, and that comes through on this CD. It is a wonderful witness of Christ's love and offers a little bit of everything music wise.

I am very glad to add this to my collection.

My 12 month old loves this CD and happily bops away to the music (in the car he sometimes even starts singing!). We like it too and not being very well versed in Classical music, it is a nice mix for us.

This is a great CD, with great music, at a great price. Everyone seems to love Baby Einstein, but I don't like the plinking music on those CD's, I like real orchestral pieces to stimulate my child. This is exactly what parents need, at a good price!

5 out of 5 stars great music at a great price.......2006-02-02

I got this cd to use as background when putting my 18 month old to sleep and for car rides. So far it has not made it out of the car. The cd is wonderful. The first song is the Luftansa airline comercial song (that is what my husband calls it) and is beautiful. I didn't think my husband would enjoy the cd at all but he doesn't mind one bit listening to it, he actually will put it on himself when we get in the car. My daughter loves it and will often start nodding her head back and forth to songs. I actually listen to it even when my daughter is not in the car. The music is soft and relaxing but not boring. It is also one of the only cd's that my in laws don't mind listening to when they are in the car with us.

I only paid like $4 here on amazon for it and I gladdly would of paid more for such a great cd. Its a great cd for such a great price!

5 out of 5 stars A Wonderful CD for all ages.......2002-11-03

My whole family has enjoyed this CD. It is very upbeat and easy to listen to. I think there is something for everyone on this one.

5 out of 5 stars Christian Rock Made Cool.......2007-07-15

This San Diego based band have kept the style of modern rock alive with this 2004 release that first got noticed by the strength of the Top 20 hit, "Meant to Live." Switchfoot have recorded your basic 101, feel good album by having great songs, infectious pop hooks, and introspective lyrics. As songwriters, they have a flair for radio melody while not afraid to challenge the human psyche in "Dare You to Move," one of the best songs to hit the charts in ages. They're also not afraid to speak their minds to the collective consiousness in "Ammunition." Other tracks worth mentioning include "This is Your Life," and the memorable and inspirational, "More Than Fine."

    4 out of 5 stars I like this CD.......2007-04-10

I really like Swichfoot is a good CD like seeing Artist doing Christian Music our world is fallen and needs a Savior!

5 out of 5 stars Perhaps their best overall album!.......2007-03-07

Switchfoot has grown in leaps and bounds with every release since their debut, The Legend of Chin, in 1997. This album marks their coming-out as mainstream artists, and it was successful for many reasons. First, all 4 musicians are talented and passionate. Second, they present a hope and a positive message in a world saturated by superficial or negative messages. Third, this album shows off the band's diversity and humour. Here is a brief track-by-track analysis of The Beautiful Letdown.

Meant to Live - Possibly my favourite guitar riff of the past 5 years starts this one off. This song rocks!
This is Your Life - Love the synth opening on this one, and the sort of ethereal (am I using this word correctly?) feel to the entire song. Not rock, not really even pop, but man, what a song!
More Than Fine - This song seemed destined to be a radio favourite, but never was released. I love listening to this one in my car... it just has a certain quality to it that demands the listener to examine life around them.
Ammunition - I used to think this one was about how Christians are like ammunition, poised to attack "the enemy" or whatever. But I now know we are the ammunition, we are the weapon that is being used against our own cause - love in Jesus Christ. WE are the ones turning people off from Him!
Dare You to Move - This one also finds itself on Learning to Breathe, the previous release, but sounds a lot better on this one, and fits the album thematically. Despite it being a "do-over", I still consider it the best song on this album!
Redemption - Sad that this one was left off their set list at their concerts, because it's an awesome song, musically and lyrically. Love the guitar-and-drum opening, and the sweet bass line!
The Beautiful Letdown - My least favourite track on the CD, though the message is awesome. We are bound to be let down by this life, because we weren't created for life on earth! We're heaven-bound, and we'll never be let down there!
Gone - Quirkiest song on the CD. This is something they have kind of strayed from in recent years (at least on their actual releases). This one is just fun from start to finish!
On Fire - Beautiful ballad. So raw, so passionate. Love it!
Adding to the Noise - Definitely a sign-of-the-times song about how we tend to busy ourselves with so much stuff that life passes us by.
24 - Amazing end to an amazing album. This one is so introspective... love the line, "I am the second man now."

If you do not have this CD, you seriously do not know what you're missing out on! It is definitely still to this day one of my favourite albums by any artist!

5 out of 5 stars My sister is always taking this cd from me.......2007-01-03

We love this cd so much! If you want to hear the best of Switchfoot, buy this cd! I've liked some of what I heard of Switchfoot in the past, but all the songs on this soundtrack are great! The lyrics also send out a wakeup call to those Christians who are just living to get by and fit into the crowd by asking them if they are who they're meant to be. For Christians they are to meant to live to glorify God first and foremost in all that they do and I think that this is brought out in this cd.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best.......2006-07-12

I am one of those who not only loves great music, but lyrics that make me think. Switchfoot has hit on both with this release. Meant to Live, This Your Life, Dare You to Move headline a cd that challenges us in our lives and point us to something greater. Sample these songs especially and see what you think!
