Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great DVD of a 70"s Classic Rock Album.......2007-01-10

I have always been a huge fan of Dr Hook & The Medicine Show: ever since "Sylvia's Mother" first came out, followed by "Cover Of The Rolling Stone". They had me for life after I enjoyed the experience of seeing them live at a private party for record company executives, record promoters, radio station owners and D.J.'s in Houston around 1977 (still not sure how I got invited, but it was a great show.)

"Sloppy Seconds" was never one of their best known albums, and I guess anybody would call it irreverant at best: not of religion or God, just of society. I had the original L.P., which I lost and a cassette (also lost), and was really missing the unusual songs on this truly unique album (the lyrics of many of which were written by Shel Silverstein in an earlier life: later of Playboy, Esquire and New Yorker cartoon fame and most recently as a best-selling author of children's books.) Finding a top-quality CD of this hard-to-find album was a really pleasant surprise, and listening to these 30 year old classics in new-age clarity has become a series of enjoyable continuing trips down memory lane.

I highly recommend the album and the seller.

5 out of 5 stars I consider this album one of the top 25 of all time..........2006-11-24

As far as music being an art form, this album has the whole package, cool cover, incredible sound, awesome lyrics, fabulous playing, vocals second to none! Arguably a classic among classics!!! It requires full attention and should be required listening for high school english, music and art classes...

5 out of 5 stars Their best album 5 stars is not enough.......2006-01-15

In my opinion this is their best album, every song is worth a good close listen. I wore out my first 8 track copy of this, bought it again on 8 track over the years I also bought it on vinyl, cassette and on CD; don't regret a single purchase.
I still play it fairly often and enjoy it each time I hear it.

5 out of 5 stars Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show: Sloppy Seconds.......2005-09-17

I love this album... it's funny to say, but my parents raised me on this and other great albums of their time. They have the original vinyl, but I had to have my own copy. It's hard to find in record stores, so I am pleased to have found it here. People may not think by looking at the band or the cover that this band could convey this music with such heart (although, some of it is just for fun), but their voices and music combined with the ever enduring poetic words of Shel Silverstein goes beyond the time or the look.

3 out of 5 stars Fairly Good.......2005-09-12

There are a few songs on this album that make it worth having. The best of them is "I Can't Touch the Sun." This song is one of Dr. Hook's best.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best PUNK albums.......2004-11-28

This is one of the best punk I ever heard! It has really cool lyrics, superb guitars and interesting voice. I can only recommended this album (and also other sloopy discs). Dont wait and buy it NOW.

    5 out of 5 stars Oustanding!.......2004-01-19

As far as straight ahead Punk Rock albums go, you just can't beat this. I put it along side The Vindictives "Many Moods Of The..." album for good, humourous Punk Rock. This album was re-issued, but I don't see it on here. It shows up as 'out of stock'. You can get it new though.

4 out of 5 stars this album is great.......2002-06-22

I bought this one used at local record store without ever hearing of the band. im now a huge sloppy seconds fan and own all albums. if you like punk, buy this album...

5 out of 5 stars sloppy seconds are junk rock gods.......2002-02-17

This is such a great cd. Definately in my top 5 of all time favorites. Almost every song is a total classic. This is their best work. See the world throught the eyes of a degenerate fat man - who's incredibly witty and irreverent. A+++++!

    5 out of 5 stars Great Album.......2001-02-17

Buy this album. Every song is catchy, funny, and irreverent. Punky but not serious. Buy it NOW!

      3 out of 5 stars pointless.......2000-01-29

Sloppy Seconds is a great punk rock band, but this cd seems a little unnecessary. The first 3 songs are from "Knock Yer Block Off", which isn't one of their better cds in the first place. I would only recommend this cd to those who just have to have the 2 unreleased tracks. "Horaay For Santa Claus" is quite humorous, being the theme from the classic cheesy movie, Santa Claus Conquers The Martians.

5 out of 5 stars Review of Lonely X-mas.......1999-02-06

The is a really cool single. Lone. X-mas is a good song, Conned Again is cool too and was unreleased previous to this. Hurry for Santa Claus is an awesome tune, done with that Sloppy sound. The vinyl (that's what i've got) looks like a candy cane. Thumbs up!

5 out of 5 stars LONG TIME "SLOPPY" FAN!.......1999-11-23

Having been a Sloppy Seconds fan for 3 years, I was thrilled to learn they were recording a live alblum in 'our' hometown of Indianapolis. If you have not had the chance to see them in person, this alblum gives you the chance to feel the raw energy that Sloppy delivers by the bucket full, night in/ night out. Too bad there wasn't a home video for this alblum. To see the crowd eating out of B.A.'s hand during 'Candyman" is too much. Sloppy Seconds are the ambassadors of punk, and this live recording serves as proof.

All I have to say is you could be in the most pissed off mood, slap this puppy in the old machine and after the first few songs you're bobbin your head with a smile. The Kids are all drunk and The Mighty Heroes are some great songs. This cd will keep you in a great mood if you like punk with a little twist of fun!

Their second album isn't quite as good as the fabulous Destroyed but it's got it's share of great songs. It Finally Happened, Ice Cream Man, Your Sister to name a few. If you're a Sloppy fan you'll dig this!

These cats are mad ill. They have a Gang Starr/Reflection Eternal/ High & Mighty, type of group, ie. one is a producer, Mr. Jason, and the other is the MC, Nabo Rawk. There are 10 tracks on this album and they are all dope. I accidentally left it in my friends car one day & he came up to me like "Yo that is dope, I have to buy that". Illest joints are "Girls Sweat Me", "Far Out", "Balloon Knots" wit Cage, "Catnip", & "My Imagination" Why are you still reading this, buy this album right now!

5 out of 5 stars Pure PUNK ROCK fun packed with ANTHEMS you'll LOVE!!.......2003-08-18

Another excellent EP entry from the all time best punky "junk rock" band! If you're fond of three chord sleazy but well produced power-pop, coupled with ironic and hook laden lyrics about juvenile angst, beer, and B-movies, these guys are a MUST HAVE for you. Fans of both The Cramps and The Vandals will appreciate this band. On this release the masters serve us up a slab of well crafted covers: well worth the price for "I Won't Grow Up" and "I Wanna Go Home" alone, plus you get a much rockin version of Black Flag's tongue-in-cheek "TV Party" which holds up BETTER than Henry's original. The EP slips a little on the Joan Jett cover "I'm Gonna Runaway" but HEY--it's still well worth the buy overall. These guys are tragically underrated.

3 out of 5 stars yes, punk rock covers!.......2002-05-29

Rachel, go back to the ghetto and listen to gangsta rap, you have no clue what punk rock is about. The lyrics are silly, I admit it (they're cover songs, btw!) and they are also fun and irreverant. Here are some lyrics for you to ponder: GABBA GABBA HEY!

1 out of 5 stars Sloppy Seconds makes a Sloppy Cut.......2000-08-16

Sloppy Seconds is a punk/rock band and is not that well know yet. With tracks like these, it's obvious as to why. There first cut on the CD is "I don't want to grow up". Perhaps the title is from Peter Pan or based on the Toys 'R Us theme song?! Anyway, it says "I don't wanna grow...I don't wanna wear a tie..."! They are trying to mix punk and rock with stupid lyrics. I don't recommend this CD at all.

4 out of 5 stars Sloppy Returns to Their Roots.......2000-06-13

"Garbage Days Regurgitated" is an homage to some of the music which made punk rock great. From Black Flag to Joan Jett, this is not your basic album of Ramones/Sex Pistols covers (with all due respect to those bands). From start to finish, this is a fun-filled, frenetic, festival of furious three-chord energy. There's even a cover of "I Won't Grow Up" from the Broadway musical Peter Pan. What more could anyone ask for? Clocking in at just over fifteen minutes, this EP is a bargain at any price.
