5 out of 5 stars soul is another.......2002-06-20

This is probably the most unknown and underestimated album in the trance/progressive house world. If you like Sasha's ethereal qualities (esp. GU13), you will go mad over this. It is quiet, smooth, trancendental, and brilliant. About the music, not the recognition. The journey is 100% of the fun so listen to it all the way through. Some tracks are older, but they are fresh in this compiliation. There are surprises, but they are so integrated, they don't disturb the trancelike state you succumb to upon listening. Must have.

4 out of 5 stars A thorough overview of what's In on the Britsh dance scene.......2001-05-07

Yikes! That's a pretty horrible title for an album, but true in attitude, "progressive" in the spirit of playing out a set different than the norm. Nu-Progressive Era, via a polished digital mix from Red Jerry, pushes beyond the usual big tune acceptable-not-exceptional standards of nearly all the name brand compilations out there (cough, Ministry of Sound, cough) by smoothly connecting the dots that bind dance music together. Form chunky west coast American house (`Da Warrior') to subtle trancier fare (`My Lexicon') through bouts of tribal funkiness and meaty heavyweights (`Touch Me, ' `Xpander') what should have been a train wreck of styles and tempo instead gels together rather smoothly.

Credit that to a good ear for rhythm and a willingness to call on older favorites from the past few years sprinkled around today's newest models. Highlights include Orinoko's chopped-up and banging `Mama Konda,' and the tantalizing whispers of Slide `Closure' on a restrained disc one, Hipp-e `Down On Me' and twisting `Pilgrem to Paradise' among the geared-up and lively second.

A sign of a good compilation mix has always been a DJ's reinterpretation of a played-out tune, placing them in different moments for a fresh outlook. Red Jerry successfully dresses up the two-thirds of older tunes here for one more go `round on the dance floor. Engaging, and at two and a half hours, an excellent value.
