A Different Dickinson .......2007-03-15
UP THE IRONS!!!!!
A promising songwriter's debut.......2005-09-23
The problems I have are the inconsistency of the writing, the slightly ragged, unpolished quality of some singing, and the cheese of the sterile 'eighties sound' combined with verging-on-pretentious performances in a few places.
I took to Bruce's stuff a lot more after he left Maiden, regrouped, and went toward a fatter, more organic sound and regaining his powerful wail.
This is a nice little collection of ditties but it feels almost painfully earnest to prove itself as a pop record. Bruce made the point he could do that genre and write huge singles. The man later proved he could be a lot more interesting than that.
Good attempt for the first album!.......2005-08-24
Great album. Very different than Iron Maiden. More commercial sounding.
I love Tattooed Millionaire (this is the best version of it) but other songs are good on it too. It's just a fun rock n roll album. I love not-too-serious albums. It's great. It worked with Garage DAys with Metallica and it works with Bruce.
I find it incredible that with these albums you get extra tracks! I should re-buy these albums! It's all too good!
Bruce is a metal legend, that deserves greater respect than what he deserves. If you like Maiden, you should give Bruce a try!
He went on to make albums better than Iron Maiden! But just remember, I don't think those Iron Maiden albums were all that bad. Just not as good.
I perfer Bruce Dickinson these days. His latest album is very different from this, and in some ways I miss the old style Bruce. I somehow wish he could incorporate this rock n roll style on all his releases. Sometimes a song doesn't have to be hard and heavy to good. It's the feeling you get from the song that's most important.
What I like about this album is that it's light-hearted. There's too many songs out there these days.
The best ever?.......2004-05-26
Classic metal.......2004-03-19
I was surpised how different it was from Iron Maiden, but it was a solid album and one I still enjoy listening to today, 14 years later. "Tattooed Millionaire," "Born in '58" and the remake of "All The Young Dudes" were my favorites, but most of the songs are solid. It was straight foward album rock at its best.
I admit listening to this album brings back good memories for me. I was 19 at the time and it's amazing how much my life has changed since 1990. Ah, the good old days....
Several of Dickinson's other solo releases such received more positive reviews from magazines such as "Metal Maniacs" but I will always believe "Tattooed Millionare" tops them all.
A great CD to have in your metal collection.

One of the last live-action films personally nurtured by Walt Disney, this musical romp about an eccentric (alligators in the study; home Bible classes peppered with boxing lessons) millionaire's familial foibles couldn't help but seem out of place when released in the pop-cultural maelstrom of 1967. But Disney wisely entrusted its score to the Sherman brothers, the same songwriting team who'd previously conjured up the classic Mary Poppins. They responded with a uniformly sprightly, slightly Anglocentric song score with plenty of turns in the spotlight for stars Fred MacMurray ("Strengthen the Dwelling" and the anthemic "I Believe in This Country" and "What's Wrong with That"), U.K. pop idol Tommy Steele (the playful "Fortuosity," "I'll Always Be Irish," "Let's Have a Drink On It"), young Lesley Anne Warren ("Valentine Candy," the slyly seductive "Bye-Yum Pum Pum"), and John Davidson (the romantic duets with Warren, "Detroit" and "Are We Dancing"). This digital restoration also includes songs eliminated from the film's original near-three-hour cut, "It Won't Be Long" (in a U.K. cover version) and "Off Rittenhouse Square" in demo form by the Shermans. A thoroughly charming anachronism--and oddly, one whose musical standard of quality is not so out of step with much contemporary Broadway fare. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
Lovely score nicely presented.......2006-12-11
best scores.Sure,it's not up to their splendid "Mary Poppins" music, but
it is lovely and enjoyable on its own terms. The best songs are "It Won't Be Long 'Till Christmas" and "Are We Dancing?".Tommy Steele,John Davidson,
Lesley Ann Warren, and(surprise!)Fred MacMurray do the best vocally.Musical
director Jack Elliott and the Disney orchestra do an excellent job with
the score. This is an underrated soundtrack worth listening to.
This is a wonderful soundtrack!.......2005-11-01
This is a wonderful soundtrack!.......2005-11-01
Not the best Sherman, but VERY good.......2004-02-25
a superb, under-rated score.......2003-07-09
There are some gorgeous songs in this score, including Lesley Ann Warren's "Valentine Candy", her magical duet with John Davidson in "Are We Dancing?" and Tommy Steele's infectious "Fortuosity".
However, its a shame that during the remastering process, they did not restore the dance interlude in "I'll Always Be Irish" or the additional music in the Overture (as heard in the recent Road Show DVD version).
Other choice numbers include the hilarious "There Are Those", with Geraldine Page and Gladys Cooper; John Davidson's spirited "Detroit"; and Lesley Ann Warren's duet with Joyce Bulifant singing the delightful "Bye-Yum Pum Pum".
Fans will relish this long-overdue soundtrack to one of the greatest Disney films ever made.

As fans of musical theater, we're used to offbeat projects, but this long-forgotten show takes the cake--and it's completely entrancing. The opening number alone makes nasty fun of the then-popular beatniks and is immediately followed by "New York," a list song enumerating all the awful things about the city. Rarely has so much bile been spilled on the New York stage--but perhaps that's because the show originated in St. Louis. Tommy Wolf's finger-snapping score and Fran Landesman's biting lyrics are very compelling, especially because it's hard to tell when they're serious and when they're drily sarcastic. The energetic cast, which includes Larry Hagman (best known as JR in Dallas), is backed by a jazz quartet, and the result often sounds strangely contemporary. And then you have some numbers, such as "Night People," that are almost Sondheimian. What a strange, wonderful little show this is. --Elisabeth VincentelliCustomer Reviews:

Paradisiac

ASIN: B0009Z5R6I Release Date: 2005-10-25 |
Album Description
Following their trimphant show at London's Buffalo Bar and recent double A-sided bad-boy 'We Don't Live There Anymore'/'For A Maid', Millionaire release the new full-length 'Paradisiac' through PIAS. The new album is produced by Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age. The music just floats in all possible directions, just like it did on their first album. Some of Tim's songs will make you wonder how on earth music can be so heavy and danceable at the same time! 2005.Customer Reviews:
Music Most Excellent!.......2006-07-11
There is a paradise..........2006-05-04
Queens' Josh Homme is a huge fans (he produced Paradisiac), so is Matthew Bellamy --> Now it's your turn to get blown away.......2006-04-10
Now on to the record. Paradisiac is a grower, but one of a fantastic kind... More over the top, more kick ass, more punk-edged then their previous eclectic little masterpiece Outside The Simian Flock and more stonerrock... though actually I prefer them even slightly more than The Queens of the Stone Age.
Just Listen to Highlights WE DON'T LIVE THERE ANYMORE and WAKE UP THE CHILDREN (which sounds to me like a fantastic Rage Against The Machine song, but one gone completely out of control, without degrading itself into a chaos-trashpile), I bet you find yourself wide awake and screaming WAKE UP-the-wake up, wake up THE CHII-HIHIILDREN!!, some minutes later, roaming around the house like frenzy emptying a bottle of Jack Daniels and calling up all your friends to hit the night
And then we have the hauntingly beautiful song BALLAD OF PURE THOUGHT, which proves Tim Vanhamel's skills as a songwriter, which is for me one of the most beautiful songs of 2005
This album will lift you up for 45 glorious minutes with one awesome resting point (Ballad of pure thought), and will smack you down afterwards leaving you crawling on the floor begging for more. Well in that case: one advice, go get their debut Outside the Simian Flock, which is very good too.
For me Paradisiac is in my top 3 albums of 2005, sorry for all the superlatives, but they're worth everysingle one of them...
