5 out of 5 stars A Different Dickinson .......2007-03-15

Somewhere between Iron Maiden's two albums, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and No Prayer for the Dying, Mr. Bruce Dickinson took a little time out and did a solo album. I first came across the original CD while stationed in Germany in the early 90's (it broke due to theft,...thankfully this one came out) and after watching the tape that went along with this (Dive! Dive! Live!....again thankfully it is now on the DVD collection). In my opinion....pure rock fun. The only 2 tracks that I wasn't fond of was Son of a Gun and No Lies. Everything else in between is just great listening material. So boys and girls....if you are a fan of Iron Maiden and wanting to take a different stroll down Musical Lane....get this copy. You won't regret it. And while you're at it....get the compelation DVD as well. Both are enjoyable.

UP THE IRONS!!!!!

3 out of 5 stars A promising songwriter's debut.......2005-09-23

While this CD really shines in certain areas musically, I felt overall it was more a sign of things to come.

The problems I have are the inconsistency of the writing, the slightly ragged, unpolished quality of some singing, and the cheese of the sterile 'eighties sound' combined with verging-on-pretentious performances in a few places.

I took to Bruce's stuff a lot more after he left Maiden, regrouped, and went toward a fatter, more organic sound and regaining his powerful wail.

This is a nice little collection of ditties but it feels almost painfully earnest to prove itself as a pop record. Bruce made the point he could do that genre and write huge singles. The man later proved he could be a lot more interesting than that.

5 out of 5 stars Good attempt for the first album!.......2005-08-24

It all started with Nightmare on Elms Street. He brought out that song Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter...

Great album. Very different than Iron Maiden. More commercial sounding.

I love Tattooed Millionaire (this is the best version of it) but other songs are good on it too. It's just a fun rock n roll album. I love not-too-serious albums. It's great. It worked with Garage DAys with Metallica and it works with Bruce.

I find it incredible that with these albums you get extra tracks! I should re-buy these albums! It's all too good!

Bruce is a metal legend, that deserves greater respect than what he deserves. If you like Maiden, you should give Bruce a try!

He went on to make albums better than Iron Maiden! But just remember, I don't think those Iron Maiden albums were all that bad. Just not as good.

I perfer Bruce Dickinson these days. His latest album is very different from this, and in some ways I miss the old style Bruce. I somehow wish he could incorporate this rock n roll style on all his releases. Sometimes a song doesn't have to be hard and heavy to good. It's the feeling you get from the song that's most important.

What I like about this album is that it's light-hearted. There's too many songs out there these days.

5 out of 5 stars The best ever?.......2004-05-26

Well this happens to be one of the greatest CD's that you will ever buy. If you like DIO, Queensryche, or Iron Maiden you are asured that you will absolutly love this CD. His voice is astounding and I can't help but listen to this CD over and over. It has been around since 1990 and I have listend to it proboly about 1000-1200 times. It is a must buy.

5 out of 5 stars Classic metal.......2004-03-19

Bruce Dickinson, lead singer of Iron Maiden, has had several solo releases, but I liked this one - his first - the best. When I bought this release back in 1990 I wore out the cassette. I was a huge Iron Maiden fan at the time and automatically bought "Tattooed Millionaire" when it was released.

I was surpised how different it was from Iron Maiden, but it was a solid album and one I still enjoy listening to today, 14 years later. "Tattooed Millionaire," "Born in '58" and the remake of "All The Young Dudes" were my favorites, but most of the songs are solid. It was straight foward album rock at its best.

I admit listening to this album brings back good memories for me. I was 19 at the time and it's amazing how much my life has changed since 1990. Ah, the good old days....

Several of Dickinson's other solo releases such received more positive reviews from magazines such as "Metal Maniacs" but I will always believe "Tattooed Millionare" tops them all.

A great CD to have in your metal collection.

5 out of 5 stars One of the most slept on albums of all time.......2006-12-06

HANDS DOWN THIS WAS THE MOST SLEPT ALBUM OF 1997!!!!! Illiodic Shines with Mic Geronimo was crazy!!! Except for showing up on a few mix tapes and a late night hip- hop radio shows here and there. Royal Flush deserves his props. Just about every track is a certified BANGA!!!Its a shame he didn't come out with anything else!!!

5 out of 5 stars its that gully queens hip hop from the 97-98 era.......2006-01-29

this album right here is hot, first off its the production, and his lyrics are good but nothing to go crazy over but its listenable and tolerable,he spits that queens flow that i like, anyways for those who don't know who is royal flush he's mic geronimo's right hand man and capone's cousin from cnn.his first appearance was on mic's first album the natural(1995).he's half black and half cuban, its too bad that he didn't get any buzz from the mainstream, but his single iced out medallions got some underground buzz, this album is very very underrated and shouldn't be,i got this album in a used music, movie store in fla,i couldn't find this in new york, but any ways this is recommended for fans of queens hip hop, cnn, and underground hip hop.stand out tracks are Iced down medallions,Can't help it,Movin' on your weak productions(my favorite track on this album and was produced by da beatminerz),that beat has that real new york feel to it and its very addicting,Family Problems,Regulate(my second favorite track on the album)it features mic geronimo, International Currency, and finally Dead Letter

4 out of 5 stars Hot but only 1 dissappointment.......2005-10-30

I thought that the song Rotten Apple was gonna be on there but it wasn't. But besides that this is a good album I wish the man would come out with something else but this album I bought it the same day I bought OC jewelz and I didn't know which one to play both were out and hot!!!! this is a good cd.

5 out of 5 stars Alvaro sez: Flush Puts Flushing Queens on the Map!.......2005-09-01

When i first heard Flush it was on Big L's (other awesome NY artist)Flamboyant Pt. 2 ft. Royal Flush and Mic Geronimo. it blew me away, specialy being someone who has a good grasp on NY Hip Hop and its most talented. The next day i ordered "worlwide" from amazon. When i got it in the mail i couldnt put it down. I paid 3.85 for the cd used (good condition) and it def was worth every cent. If you like artists like Cappadonna from the wu tang, showbiz from D.I.T.C. you will def love flush and his Cd features comps w/ some of my Fav (O.C., MIc Geronimo, Da Wastlanz, Noreaga & Buckwild)

this cd is a must have, a nice peace to have specially if your building up an unknown/undergound collection.

One of the last live-action films personally nurtured by Walt Disney, this musical romp about an eccentric (alligators in the study; home Bible classes peppered with boxing lessons) millionaire's familial foibles couldn't help but seem out of place when released in the pop-cultural maelstrom of 1967. But Disney wisely entrusted its score to the Sherman brothers, the same songwriting team who'd previously conjured up the classic Mary Poppins. They responded with a uniformly sprightly, slightly Anglocentric song score with plenty of turns in the spotlight for stars Fred MacMurray ("Strengthen the Dwelling" and the anthemic "I Believe in This Country" and "What's Wrong with That"), U.K. pop idol Tommy Steele (the playful "Fortuosity," "I'll Always Be Irish," "Let's Have a Drink On It"), young Lesley Anne Warren ("Valentine Candy," the slyly seductive "Bye-Yum Pum Pum"), and John Davidson (the romantic duets with Warren, "Detroit" and "Are We Dancing"). This digital restoration also includes songs eliminated from the film's original near-three-hour cut, "It Won't Be Long" (in a U.K. cover version) and "Off Rittenhouse Square" in demo form by the Shermans. A thoroughly charming anachronism--and oddly, one whose musical standard of quality is not so out of step with much contemporary Broadway fare. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars Lovely score nicely presented.......2006-12-11

"The Happiest Millionaire" contains one of Richard and Robert Sherman's
best scores.Sure,it's not up to their splendid "Mary Poppins" music, but
it is lovely and enjoyable on its own terms. The best songs are "It Won't Be Long 'Till Christmas" and "Are We Dancing?".Tommy Steele,John Davidson,
Lesley Ann Warren, and(surprise!)Fred MacMurray do the best vocally.Musical
director Jack Elliott and the Disney orchestra do an excellent job with
the score. This is an underrated soundtrack worth listening to.

If you enjoyed the movie "The Happiest Millionaire", you will love this soundtrack! Now when I'm in the car I can listen to the songs of one of my favorite Disney Musicals and even though I can't see it, the story comes to life again in my mind's eye through song.

4 out of 5 stars Not the best Sherman, but VERY good.......2004-02-25

There are indeed some wonderful songs here, and I guess FORTUOSITY, WHAT'S WRONG WITH THAT, BYE-YUM PUM PUM and the single version of IT WON'T BE LONG 'TIL CHRISTMAS are really the best. But there is NO BOOKLET again, just like in BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS, and there is no instrumental score. I really think Disney should give this soundtracks the same treatment it gave to the "bigger" ones, like MARY POPPINS or ALICE IN WONDERLAND.

    5 out of 5 stars a superb, under-rated score.......2003-07-09

The Sherman Brothers' score for THE HAPPIEST MILLIONAIRE is one of their greatest, and most under-rated. Hopefully, this new reissue of the original soundtrack album will help its reputation.

There are some gorgeous songs in this score, including Lesley Ann Warren's "Valentine Candy", her magical duet with John Davidson in "Are We Dancing?" and Tommy Steele's infectious "Fortuosity".

However, its a shame that during the remastering process, they did not restore the dance interlude in "I'll Always Be Irish" or the additional music in the Overture (as heard in the recent Road Show DVD version).

Other choice numbers include the hilarious "There Are Those", with Geraldine Page and Gladys Cooper; John Davidson's spirited "Detroit"; and Lesley Ann Warren's duet with Joyce Bulifant singing the delightful "Bye-Yum Pum Pum".

Fans will relish this long-overdue soundtrack to one of the greatest Disney films ever made.

As fans of musical theater, we're used to offbeat projects, but this long-forgotten show takes the cake--and it's completely entrancing. The opening number alone makes nasty fun of the then-popular beatniks and is immediately followed by "New York," a list song enumerating all the awful things about the city. Rarely has so much bile been spilled on the New York stage--but perhaps that's because the show originated in St. Louis. Tommy Wolf's finger-snapping score and Fran Landesman's biting lyrics are very compelling, especially because it's hard to tell when they're serious and when they're drily sarcastic. The energetic cast, which includes Larry Hagman (best known as JR in Dallas), is backed by a jazz quartet, and the result often sounds strangely contemporary. And then you have some numbers, such as "Night People," that are almost Sondheimian. What a strange, wonderful little show this is. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An underrated gem!.......2003-06-03

The songs in this musical are simply wonderful! Canny, passionate, "beat," and sardonic. The story, its characters, and the lyrics are classic Greenwich Village of the late 1950's. This CD features talented singers and actors (including a very young Larry Hagman),a great lyricist, lush and complex music. To reiterate, it's just WONDERFUL! I ruined my LP long ago, and am THRILLED to find this CD replacement.

3 out of 5 stars Dig that beat..........2002-02-28

A fun recording to have on CD. Very beatnik oriented musical from 1959 with such interesting names in the cast as Tom Aldredge (Into the Woods, Passion) and Larry Hagman!? The song "New York" is a lot of fun. The best of the rest the score include "The Ballad of the Sad Young Man" sung by Tan Seitz and "Laugh, I Thought I'd Die" sung by Richard Hayes. Larry Hagman has one song, "Travel the Road of Love" and although he doesn't embarrass himself, thank God "I Dream of Jeannie" and "Dallas" were still be come. He definitely did not inherit his mother's singing ability. In fact, I think his mother was performing in "The Sound of Music" during the short run of this show.

4 out of 5 stars One of the Best from Kevin Welch.......2006-03-16

One of the best albums from Kevin Welch. 2 great songs in particular, "Millionaire" and "Queen of the Slipstream" are exceptional. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Fresh approach to Americana.......2002-10-08

I just picked up Kevin Welch's new CD `Millionaire'. I particularly like the mellow title track, "Blanket of Snow", and his cover of Van Morrison's "Queen of the Slipstream". "Killing Myself" first caught my attention on the radio with its bluesy dobro work, and the muted trumpets are a nice rare touch on an Americana record. The album has a good mix of ballads and tight rockers. The Danes provide a powerful backing on the rockers "Choose To Believe", "I Can Sure Love You", and John Hadley's "Long Cold Train", and a gentle touch on tracks like "The Sun King and the Winter Moon" with it's prominent mandolin playing. The arrangements are very tasteful, while still cutting loose with some searing guitar work on "Choose To Believe" and the confident horn/guitar driven "I Can Sure Love You". I would highly recommend this to any fan of singer-songwriter and Americana genres.

5 out of 5 stars Country that rocks.......2002-10-02

I just picked up the new Kevin Welch cd after seeing his video and it is fantastic. I love this alt-country scene that is coming out. It has a little bit of a blues edge mixed in with the roots of the alt country theme. So if you are a fan of this stuff go get his new music.

5 out of 5 stars Kevin Welch is the best!.......2002-09-28

I just bought the new Kevin Welch cd, Millionaire, and it is outstanding! If you like any kind of alt-country type stuff, you have to get this cd. I'm a huge fan of Willie Nelson and Wilco, but this guy is just as good as them. Not only is it alt-country, but it has a real blues driven feel that is very catchy. This is definitely one for the collection and I encourage you, if you like this type of music, check it out! It's great!

5 out of 5 stars One Of The All-Time Rap Classics.......2004-10-16

An amazing album...one of the best of any genre. DEEP EastBay Cali Street Funk. The beats are sick, production super tight, E-40 at the top of his, or anyone else's, game. He's spittin, as usual, on totally another level...flows like water while stayin hard as nails and hot as fire...too fast only if you're listenin too slow. Listen to this one and then listen again. This is deep.

5 out of 5 stars Cause He Can!.......2003-03-18

Why does E-40 keep making these sick albums? Cause He Can! Man I tell ya, this is one of E-40's best albums, maybe even THEE best. Not too many artists can match E-40's style, as a matter of fact no one can spit it like Charlie Hu$tle. Every song on this CD is tight the beats are crazy, this is definitly the best production ever on an E-40 album. And of course 40-Watta comes with his ever-so-sick, one-of-a-kind rapping style. For all of you who say that E-40 raps too fast, he's not rappin' too fast yall just listenin' too slow (that's real). He even puts the lyrics in the CD booklet for all you squares out there. Like I was saying all the tracks are sick and there's no skits, so you don't have to skip anything. The songs that really stand out are; L.I.Q., ...They Nose, Seasoned, Earl That's Yo' Life, Rules & Regulations, Big Ballin' With My Homies, and Ghetto Celebrity. There are also a lot of great guest appearances by Jayo Felony, C-Bo, Sauce Money, Fat Joe, Cash Money Millionairs, and of course The Click. I'm from the Bay Area and that's probably why I like E-40 so much, but I like all kinds of rap. It just seems to me that people are always saying that there are too many copy cats in the rap game. Well, if you want something original E-40 is your man!

      4 out of 5 stars Fasheezy, Playboy!.......2002-06-21

Not many people out here in Massachusetts like Earl 'E-40' Stevens, and that's their loss! The man is an incredible MC, one of the greatest to grace a mic, and he's in top form on this banger. The production is funky, and e-40 is relentless with his lyrics. I recommend this not only to gangsta rap fans, but fans of real hip hop, too. Give it a few listens, even if you are Joe Art School Backpack, this stuff will grow on you.

        Album Description

Following their trimphant show at London's Buffalo Bar and recent double A-sided bad-boy 'We Don't Live There Anymore'/'For A Maid', Millionaire release the new full-length 'Paradisiac' through PIAS. The new album is produced by Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age. The music just floats in all possible directions, just like it did on their first album. Some of Tim's songs will make you wonder how on earth music can be so heavy and danceable at the same time! 2005.

        Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Music Most Excellent!.......2006-07-11

Millionaire obviously shares the same love of T. Rex's big, shiny glam rock riffs as Joshua Homme, who produced this album. At times, the vocals sound very similar to Homme's, although there's a bit more variety here. ('Wake Up the Children' actually channels RATM's Zach De La Rocha.) Fans of Queens of the Stone Age (except for those meatheads who only dig Nick Oliveri's Metal-Goblin input) will definitely feel a special connection to this band. The aforementioned T-Rexitudes are very reminiscent of QOTSA's glammier stuff, but Millionaire embraces synthy-techno grooves as well as big guitars, which makes for a most excellent combination...if you can find it, pick up the Japanese version, which is accompanied by a bonus disc. The song 'Starmeat' is AWESOME, well worth the couple of extra bucks you may pay for the import. Buy it, blast it, love it!!!

        4 out of 5 stars There is a paradise..........2006-05-04

I love their live shows. A lot's of energy going on. My favorite song on this album is "ballad of pure thought"!

5 out of 5 stars Queens' Josh Homme is a huge fans (he produced Paradisiac), so is Matthew Bellamy --> Now it's your turn to get blown away.......2006-04-10

Millionaire: one over-the-top fantastic must-see rock'n'roll Band before you die, attend one of their crazy powerful liveshows after getting into their music a bit and you will understand why they blew Josh Homme away... If you don't know them, ckeck out the song "CHAMPAGNE" (and the great video/shortmovie also)

Now on to the record. Paradisiac is a grower, but one of a fantastic kind... More over the top, more kick ass, more punk-edged then their previous eclectic little masterpiece Outside The Simian Flock and more stonerrock... though actually I prefer them even slightly more than The Queens of the Stone Age.

Just Listen to Highlights WE DON'T LIVE THERE ANYMORE and WAKE UP THE CHILDREN (which sounds to me like a fantastic Rage Against The Machine song, but one gone completely out of control, without degrading itself into a chaos-trashpile), I bet you find yourself wide awake and screaming WAKE UP-the-wake up, wake up THE CHII-HIHIILDREN!!, some minutes later, roaming around the house like frenzy emptying a bottle of Jack Daniels and calling up all your friends to hit the night

And then we have the hauntingly beautiful song BALLAD OF PURE THOUGHT, which proves Tim Vanhamel's skills as a songwriter, which is for me one of the most beautiful songs of 2005

This album will lift you up for 45 glorious minutes with one awesome resting point (Ballad of pure thought), and will smack you down afterwards leaving you crawling on the floor begging for more. Well in that case: one advice, go get their debut Outside the Simian Flock, which is very good too.

For me Paradisiac is in my top 3 albums of 2005, sorry for all the superlatives, but they're worth everysingle one of them...
